First edition. 4to, xvii, [3], 224 + 210 plates pages comprising of: 174 numbered “Plate” pages with numerous photographs of artifacts, 14 colour plates + 36pages of pottery designs entitled “Analysis of Patterns”, based on the analysis of more than 1300 vases. This is the First publication of the important the excavation results of the cemetery located southeast of the village of Fortetsa, in Knossos, originally found by chance by a local peasant, uncovering one of the richest early Greek cemeteries ever discovered in Crete. The research was undertaken by two former directors of the British School of Athens, Humfry Payne & Alan Blakeway, along with James Brock, in two successive archaeological periods from 1933 to in 1935. After the sudden death of Payne & Blakeway, the publication of the archaeological results was made by Brock in 1957, with the publication dedicated to their memory.
