SIR ALEX FERGUSON PRESENTS

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

AWARDS 2012

WELCOME Welcome to the 2012 Player of the Year Awards dinner. In the last few years, this has become a firm favourite in the calendars of many United fans and it’s certainly one that’s delivered some good memories. I write these notes without knowing the result of the title race. But whatever the outcome, this has been a terrific season. Injuries to key players like Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher notwithstanding, to have amassed so many points is a great achievement, regardless of whether that has secured the ultimate prize or not. This season, we have seen a number of outstanding performances from not only the First Team, but also the Reserve and Academy sides, with another league title and a semi final appearance in the FA Youth Cup respectively. All of these achievements have been a team effort, from the coaching staff and the players, through the backroom and general staff to you the fans - whose support is so important, whether at Old Trafford or in far flung corners of the world. However, there have been a number of individuals whose performances have stood out and it’s these individuals who will be recognised tonight.

Sir Alex Ferguson

All proceeds from tonight’s auction will be donated to the Manchester United Foundation. The Manchester United Foundation is the charity arm of the Club and uses the passion for Manchester United to educate, motivate and inspire young people to build a better life for themselves and improve the communities they live in. The Foundation works in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the UK to deliver football coaching, skills training, personal development and life changing experiences. Through football, we encourage individuals to develop as players and more importantly as people. Each year the Foundation hosts a number of exclusive events and fundraising activities. The annual trek is, this year, being lead by United Legend Gary Neville along Hadrian’s Wall. Gary will be joined by old teammates Nicky Butt and Ben Thornley for the expedition, and you can join them too from 9-11th October 2012. If you would like to get involved in this once-in-a-lifetime experience or find out what else the Foundation has coming up please visit www.mufoundation.org or call 0161 868 8600.
