COLD WATER AND POST OPERATION WOUND HEALING Sir, Pls does taking cold water affect the healing process of a Caesarean Section? I thirst for cold water, does it prevent the tommy from back to normal size. Because mine is still big and hard four weeks after the operation. Chinwe, Karshi - Abuja No, cold water does not affect the stomach. It will go back to its size. The hard swelling around the incision site is due to inflammatory reaction which is still part of the healing process. It will become normal and soft within six weeks to maximum of six months.
SUGAR AND PREMATURE EJACULATION
I’m fifty. Could too much sugar and a whole tin of peak milk in tea every day over the years cause weak erection and premature ejaculation? I’m fond of boiled eggs too. Mohammed, Kano Not really. But you need to check for your blood sugar level because diabetes mellitus especially if long standing and uncontrolled can lead to erectile dysfunction. Let me also say that too much of anything is bad because you said “much sugar”. Now that you are getting older, moderation is important. But from the complaint, you have weak erection therefore you need to see an Urologist or your Family Physician.
LABORATORY RESULTS
Sir I did Edo cervical swab for m c s test Here are the results Culture...yielded growth of pathogens spp, after 24 hrs isolation at 37 degree.Urine....pin cells 2-10 hpf. Rbes 2-10 hpf. Calcium oxalate gystals iA. No or parasite seen. What is wrong, doctor? And I am also suffering from irregular menstruation. Ayomide, Lokoja Take note of the following: The report is incomplete. The name of the pathogen cultured was not stated and drug sensitivity. Also there may not be connection between the irregular menstration and the urine test. Meanwhile see your doctor to check the result properly and tally it with the clinical findings for appropriate medication.
HIV - POST EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS SIDE EFFECTS I am currently on post exposure prophylaxis. How effective is this drug sir? Is there any alternative to this drug? How do I cope with the side effects? I have been having slight fever for two days now, Could it be due to the effects of the drug? Its really affecting my daily activities. The side effect is terrible. Kelechi, Minna There is nothing that does not have side effects. Post exposure prophylaxis otherwise known as PEP is antiretroviral taken after being potentially exposed to HIV. It should be started immediately or within seventy two hours. It is usually taken for fours weeks. It contains tenovovil, efavirenz and lamuvidine or emtricitabine. The side effect include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue and others. You can cope with it. It is just for one month. Some people take same with other medication for years. Look at what to be gained or the benefit. Meanwhile I will advise you to see your doctor rather than stopping it.

Breaking financial illiteracy Interview by UCHE EZE
Bibiana Chinyere Okereafor is a former Director, Research and Planning of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC). She is a writer and also the Chief Executive Officer of Aegis Financial Services and Links (AFSL) Ltd. She hails from Imo State and is married to Engr. P. O. Okereafor and they have four kids.
Educational background I had my secondary education at Girl’s Secondary School, Okigwe, from 1976 to 1981. For higher school, I attended Federal Government College, Ikot-Ekpene, in AkwaIbom State, from 1981 to 1983, and then obtained a B.Sc Economics from the University of Lagos in 1986. I did my MBA in Business Administration from 1998 to 2004 at Ago-Iwoye University, Ogun State, and I am currently undertaking a PhD programme with LIFE Leadership Institute University, USA. Career background Having studied Economics, with my final year project on the workings of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, I was lucky to be posted to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 1986 for my youth service. Luck again was on my side because at the end of my service, I was employed as a senior supervisor. I worked with various departments such as, human resource, exchanges, before retiring as a director, research and planning department in 2012. I also started writing sometime during that period. I wrote a book on financial literacy. Basically the book was written to help consumers trace and claim their financial assets for themselves and their relatives and to also teach Nigerians to seek redress. Challenges Growing up was turbulent, being that I was born about years years prior to the civil war in Nigeria. In spite of that, efforts were made and I went to good schools and got quality education. Professionally, when the stock market crashed, we had to work round the clock trying to stabilise the market and also win back investors’ confidence.
Life lessons An important life lesson for me is that to succeed in life, it pays to be hard working, passionate, committed, creative, have a good team spirit, build on trust and above all, have faith and trust in God. Balancing work and home It was not easy, because earlier in my career I was pre-occupied with so much work and then striking a balance seemed unachievable. My home suffered; an instance was when I left my daughter in school till about 8:30 pm one day. But later on, as I grew in rank, it became a lot easier with the support of aides, and also I began to dedicate my weekends to stay with my kids; taking them to all sorts of leisure places and also meeting up their spiritual needs. Finally, I took voluntary retirement two years ago. Most rewarding part of my career When I was promoted to the rank of director in 2010. Aspiration growing up It was just to make it in life, not being left out by my mates, and lastly, to be a graduate, to travel the world. Fond childhood memories Folk tales and also being pampered by my siblings.
AN IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON FOR ME IS THAT TO SUCCEED IN LIFE, IT PAYS TO BE HARD WORKING, PASSIONATE, COMMITTED, CREATIVE, HAVE A GOOD TEAM SPIRIT, BUILD ON TRUST AND ABOVE ALL, HAVE FAITH AND TRUST IN GOD PAGE 30 TAMBARI SUNDAY, JULY 16, 2017

They resort to buying over-the-counter medicines like paracetamol and ibuprofen, and those who urinate frequently will not know that it could be a sign of diabetes. Unfortunately, many of us would rather spend money on material things than walking into a hospital and getting checked. We should know better that good health has no price tag. Most p people only go for checkup when they’re in an employment process. Therefore, it is important that one goes for an overall checkup at least every six months. Prevention is better than cure and those checkups could increase your life span with years. Self-medication is not the answer and don’t make it a habit going to the hospital only when you are extremely ill. Most of the illnesses we have are preventable; simply walk into a hospital for regular checkup.

Knowing when it’s time to change your makeup kit By HAFSAH ABUBAKAR MATAZU

ost of us women have no clue that after a certain period, we need to dispose of our makeup products. Yes, every makeup product has expiry date, even though some are not labelled. Using expired makeup can lead to infections, breakouts, irritation and other bacterial or allergic complications.

There are simple tests to tell when you should discard your makeup products: Lipstick/lip gloss: If it smells, even slightly different, from the initial smell, or if you notice catching the flu after applying it: throw it away. Foundation: If your foundation looks chalky, separated, changes colour, or has a certain residual smell, it’s time to dump it in the bin. It has either expired or has been contaminated by bacteria. Blush: If it clumps together when you apply it, or has a funny smell; then get rid of it. You probably haven’t been closing it well or it has expired.
