Head over to the men’s page for more on the neck scarf. In culinary corner, we have the delicious Urohbo soupBanga soup, with coconut fufu. This tasty soup is made with the extract from palm fruits. In addition to that, the recipe for a sumptuous snack of pecan date pie has been included. And lastly, we have the refreshing Thai iced tie. I will suggest you allow your doctor to induce you because there is no benefit of continuing the pregnancy. And as it has been discussed start folic acid prior to your next conception to minimize the risk of recurrence
CAN RHESUS - & + GET MARRIED? EIGHT MONTHS PREGNANT WITH ANENCEPHALY I am more than eight months pregnant. I went for scan and they diagnosed “anencephaly” . When I saw my doctor, he said I’ll be induced. I am confused will the baby survive. Mrs. Ngozi J, Kaduna Anencephaly is when there is absence of skull and brain or major portion of it. It is a form of neural tube defects. Other form of neural tube defects include: Encephaloceles, Hydranencephaly, Iniencephaly, Spina bifida. Anencephaly occurs in about 1 in 10,000 births while in Nigeria it is higher at about 3 in 10,000 births. The defect starts around the 23rd day to 26th day of pregnancy when the neural tube refuse to close. Baby born with anencephaly survive for only few hours or few days of extrauterine life. The longest surviving was in United States for three years and eleven days. Generally speaking anencephaly is not compatible with life. Causes include deficiency of folic acid. This is why it is advisable for women of child bearing age to consume adequate folic acid. In women with previous history of anencephaly or neural tube defects the risk could be as high as 3%. In this situation the women are advised to be on folic acid 5mg daily prior to conception. Hereditary play a role in anencephaly but not well designed. Diseases like diabetes mellitus places the woman at the risk of anencephaly or neural tube defects especially poorly controlled prior to conception. A woman on anticonvulsant is at risk of having a fetus with neural tube defects Generally speaking it is not compatible with life, if detected and confirmed by ultrasound it is advisable to terminate the pregnancy. With real time ultrasound nowadays the diagnosis is precise.
I am confused, is it true that Rhesus negative women should not marry a rhesus positive man? I am rhesus negative and my fiancé is rhesus positive we were told we cannot marry that we may not be able to have children. What do you advice please Rhesus negative women can marry anybody it is not like genotype where carriers are advised not to marry each other or marry HbSS but to marry HbAA. The main issue is women who are Rhesus negative whose husbands are Rhesus positive run the risk of Rhesus incompatibility. This manifest usually in the second or subsequent pregnancy if steps are not taken to avoid sensitization after the delivery of the first baby or after miscarriage. The major thing is to collect Rhesus immunoglobulins or Rhogam immediately after delivery or latest within seventy two hours. Where there are facilities the baby’s Rhesus grouping could be done immediately after birth and if the baby is Rhesus negative there will be no needs to give rhogam. Let me emphasize that is not only after delivery that Rhogam need to be given but even after miscarriages and heavy bleeding during previous to prevent sensitization. All women who are Rhesus negative and are pregnant should have indirect coomb’s test, that is to know whether the women are already sensitized or not. Those whose indirect coomb’s test is positive should be monitored closely and transfered to feta maternal unit with facilities to do intrauterine exchange blood transfusion in order to prevent possible intrauterine feral death.

Glow in an embellished dress

here is nothing like a touch of embellishment on a dress to give you a sparkling effect. These dresses distinguish you in a crowd, with all eyes fixed on you. An embellished dress is no doubt the hottest dress for formal dinners and occasions because it’s hot and haute. The designs and artwork on most of these dresses are classic and stylish, made out of sequin, embroidery, beads stones and so on. The embellishment detail adds just the right touch of royalty and glow. They are everywhere at the moment, in several imaginative styles and fabrics. Although, if you do not fancy the ready-towear ones, you could design your own embellished dress; either ways, it’s a must-have item for fashionistas.

Finding ability beyond the wheelchair Interview by UCHE EZE
Lois Auta hails from Kagoro, Kaura Local ffected Government of Kaduna State. She was aff ected bility as by polio at age two but she sees her disability a bridge not a barricade to impact many lives. She also believes that disability does not define er of her but her ability does. Lois is the founder ed to Cedar Seed Foundation, an NGO dedicated sabled improving the lives of members of the disabled community. She has been given multiplee awards rian both home and abroad for her humanitarian work. Her story is inspiring. Educational background I started my primary school in TC Demonstration in 1986 and graduated in 1991 with first position in the overall primary six classes in that same school. I then proceeded to GSS Kagoro and graduated in 1998 and from there went for further studies in public administration at University of Abuja. My parents could not afford my tuition fees, so I ventured into communication deals. I started selling and making phone calls to make money. Career background After I graduated from the University, I got a job with Nigerian National Petroleum Commission in 2010 where I was employed as a support staff. In 2011, I founded Cedar Seed Foundation. Since then, I’ve been joggling the NGO and my job with NNPC. Growing up I grew up and found myself different from other kids since I was affected by polio at age two, inferiority complex set in, I stopped mingling with children in my compound, school and Church. I was always indoors until my mom worked on my mindset and made me believe in myself. She taught me to be proud of myself and accept the way things turned out for me. And that was how I conquered low self-esteem and welcomed a high spirit of confidence. Challenges Lack of educational support, inaccessibility to most things and most places, discrimination, marginalization, exclusion from development as a woman with disability and from the society. But all those challenges shaped me and made me the woman that I am today. Life lessons I have learned to live in humility, to wait for my time, to live above my struggles, hurdles and beyond a wheelchair.
Most rewarding part of my career When I was nominated in 2014 and selected as the only Nigerian Young Global Leader and the first Disabled African YGL of the World Economic Forum. Aspirations growing up Becoming the first richest physically challenged lady in Africa. My typical day

Why regular visit to a dermatologist is important Stories by HAFSAH ABUBAKAR MATAZU

kin reveals how much care you really give to your body. Healthy, glowing skin reflects and reveals just how well you treat it. It is important that your skin is well cared for and checked on a regular basis, and a dermatologist is in the best position to check your skin. We tend to overlook a lot of skin issues that could be serious. Doctor Ankama of Nasara Specialist Hospital, Kaduna spoke on a few of the issues that you should be visiting your dermatologist regularly on.
Acne: Acne may seem like a common skin p problem that you can easily treat or just choose t ignore completely. But if those breakouts to k keep recurring or leaves scars, then a visit to a d dermatologist is necessary. Skin cancer: Prevention is better than cure. S Seeing a dermatologist regularly for skin cancer s screening cannot be overemphasised. If you see a changes in your skin like moles or spots, then any b book an appointment as soon possible. Skin conditions: Conditions like psoriasis, eczema and allergies are chronic and so should not be handled lightly but rather, if you know you have such a condition then going to a dermatologist regularly for treatment and checkups will only do good for your skin. Doctor’s advice: Your doctor is your friend and in the case of your skin, your dermatologist is. Your dermatologist knows your skin better than you do and tells you useful information on what your skin needs, what it doesn’t and the right way to go about taking care of it. So if you haven’t paid your dermatologist a visit recently, then now is the right time to consider going.

Foods that cause/ prevent body odour
A
s the saying goes; you are what you eat. Whatever goes into your body shows on you or in this case, smells on you. Your choice of food actually does have a direct impact on the smell you give off. Doctor Ankama of Nasara Specialist Hospital, Kaduna spoke on how these foods affect your body and why reviewing what you eat might be a good idea. A few foods that cause body odour are; Spicy food: Spicy foods can lead to excessive sulfur in your food intake which it exits through your pores. So try to lay off the peppers, garlic and onions or take them in moderate amounts. Junk foods: Now cutting off junk food can be a task for some of us. However, we are aware of its implications, and body odour is one of them. Eating junk food without proper exercise can lead to accumulated fatty cells, which is one of the main
PAGE 33 TAMBARI SUNDAY, JULY 2, 2017
reasons behind body odour. Foods with high oil, sugar, flour and salt levels are not a good idea. Low carbs: A low carbohydrate diet can lead to an excess release of sweat. If you are on a low diet then perhaps some oats or other grains are a better alternative for you. Fish: Fish is very beneficial healthwise, but then it is also very high in choline which gives it its signature fish smell and can rub off on your smell too when consumed in big amounts. Red meat: Eating red meat in large portions is harder to digest and leaves residue behind which when released as sweat mixed with bacteria intensifies body odour. Surprised right! But not to worry as we also tell you about foods that prevent body ordour. Foods that prevent body odour include: Herbs: Herbs are naturally fragrant. They are rich in chrophyll which counteract odour. Herbs like mint, parsley, cilantro and basil are all great herbs that prevent body odour. Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a spice but is far from spicy. It has an amazing aroma which is great for body and mouth odour as it has antibacterial properties. Fruits: Fruits, most especially citrus like lemons and oranges are strong in smell and are rich in vitamin C which fights off bacteria. Consuming these as a part of your daily diet will definitely curb body odour.

kid. Pay attention to where you child stays: If your child is often surrounded by talkative people or a noisy environment then it is bound to rub off on them too. So try to seclude them a bit sometimes and keep them in a quieter noise free environment. Create a quiet time: Train your kid to keep quiet sometimes by creating a time for silence. Perhaps an activity like reading, drawing or writing can help to keep them busy during these periods. Promise your child some kind of reward if he/she manages to get through the time frame. Keep them busy: Find an activity that will keep him/her busy. Once they’re occupied, finding time to be chatty will be difficult. So keep them busy with something that will steal all their attention. Ignore unnecessary chatter: Unless the conversation is necessary or productive respond with silence. Children only talk when they get the attention they want. he new trend of magnetic face masks has proven to be effective and mesmerizing. It is a thick and creamy iron based powder mask smoothed onto the skin and then sucked off the skin with a magnet. The electromagnetic interaction pulls out pollutants and trapped dirt from within the pores to reveal a fresh, clear and dirt-free skin. There are always new ways to achieve youthful and glowing skin and the magnetic face mask does just that. Clogged pores don’t
stand a chance and the mask is also infused with antioxidants, which leaves your skin ever so supple, brighter and smoother. Trying out something new is always a risk worth taking. With so many new innovative products to choose from it’s difficult to find one that may be suitable for you but perhaps the magnetic face mask just might be the answer to your skin problems so why not give it a shot?

Effective shaving techniques H
air removal is an essential part of every lady’s beauty routine so shaving is a must. Keeping yourself well shaven and clean is important. Smooth and hairless skin reduces the chance of infections and enhances your overall appearance. But there are a few tips to bear in mind to achieve that effective shave. First, it is crucial that you use a new and sharp razor for each shave. A shaving stick with a dull razor pulls and tugs causing irritation and ingrown hairs which can be painful. Dampen and moisten your skin with warm water to plump up your skin and the hair to make shaving easier. Make sure to apply a quality shaving gel too before proceeding. without applying too much pressure. Allow your sharp shaving stick and moisturising gel to do the work for you. Ensure you shave in the direction that your hair grows to prevent the hair remaining within the follicle and achieving a clean smooth shave. This also prevents the hair from growing back faster. Don’t shave dry hair. It is difficult to cut and breaks down the sharp edge of the blade. Ideally, shave after you’ve taken a hot shower. Finally, skin is at its most sensitive state after a shave, so give your skin at least 30 minutes of rest before proceeding to apply a lotion, moisturiser or deodorant. If you must, go for a product with aloe vera or just use pure aloe vera gel instead for its soothing formula. With additional information from the internet
