‘Nigerian Youth now prepared for leadership positions’
By Latifat Opoola @LatifatOpoola
“
Nigerian Youth preparedness for leadership positions has over the years been an issue for debate. Many think they are not ready to take on risk and responsibility. The older generation also think we’re too emotional, sentimental and also materialistic. I know that we are prepared. “Although the experience may not be there, I believe we are adequately prepared. And among other things, Nigerian youth have lofty ideas, the energy/strength and the technical know-how to successfully lead like their counterpart in other countries,” a young economist, Comrade Joseph Danjuma Ngati has said. Ngati who holds a Masters degree in Banking and Finance and Economics from Ahmadu Bello University and University of Abuja is contesting for a position
in the House of Assembly in the 2019 elections. Ngati from Takum, Taraba state, said his decision to be active in politics was to provide a better representation for the people of Takum 1 Constituency. He said although the #NotTooYoungToRun Act now makes it easier for youth to participate in politics, he had always nursed the idea long before it was passed into law. If elected, Ngati promises to stand as a rallying point and a bridge between the elderly and the youth in his state. He also hopes to serve his people with integrity, and honesty. Speaking on how he hopes to fund his campaign considering elections in Nigeria are usually very expensive, Ngati said he is creating enlightenment and awareness campaign targeted at sensitizing the masses on the danger of voting the wrong person. “We are creating an
enlightenment and awareness campaign targeted at sensitizing the masses (electorate) on the danger of mortgaging their future by just taking money from the highest bidder instead of focusing on someone who will be accountable to them,” he said.
