However, netizen Mujahidu Halliru Umar backed their removal posting: “They have really done their best through the development of our noble country, Nigeria but let others contribute their own talents for the country.” “I am supporting this 100 per cent. wenty six year old Fatima broke existing record by bagging nine awards flooring the seven awards ever recorded at the Call to Bar of the Nigerian Law School (NLS). These awards include the ‘Best Student of the Year (1st Prize)’ donated by Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, Dr. Taslim Elaias and Justice Atanda Fatayi – Williams; the ‘Council of Education Star’, ‘Corporate Law Practice’ donated by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo SAN, and the ‘Best overall female student of the year’ donated by the National Association of Women Judges. Others were ‘Best

female student in criminal litigation’ donated by Mrs. Oluwatoyin Doherty, ‘Best student in civil and criminal litigation’ donated by Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama SAN; and the prize for ‘1st class students’ donated by the Director General of the NLS. Born to the family of Mr and Mrs Engr Abel .A. Sani 26 years ago, Fatima hails from Adavi-Ege in Adavi LGA of Kogi State and attended University of Abuja where she had her LLB with Second Class (Upper). Fatima told YOUTHVILLE more about her experience and plans in the law profession. My experience at Law

School The experience was a very challenging one, it was a tedious one and it was interesting. I got to meet a lot of people and it exposed me to a lot of situations and a lot of challenges but it was a generally very interesting one. Even as a fresh lawyer, I have no fear for the future Not really. I thank I’ve started out on the right path. I don’t really have any fears I’m just looking up to the future expectations but I don’t really fear, I’m not afraid of the future or of what the future holds. I’ve got plans for further studies I intend to further my

The practice of the law should be to develop the profession not really for the monetary aspects. It should be to improve the society studies to get my master’s degree then I will specialise in corporate law practices. That is a specialty I would love to work in. The practice of law is first develop the law I think the practice of the law should be to develop the profession, not really for the monetary aspects. It should be to improve the society because when you focus too much on the monetary aspect, the important ones of the profession will not be achieved at the end of the day. My challenges reading Law The environment for learning in the law school is not conducive enough for learning so that needs

improvement. There is no shortcut to success. Hard work pays. Once you are determined, disciplined and you have the right attitude, you will definitely achieve success. Students should use the internet but more for their studies There are instances were students can browse educative materials and does intelligent browsing but when you spend too much time on social media that is bad. Nowadays, the internet is more beneficial for educational materials, so if you are using it for the right purpose it is not bad. For others who haven’t passed the bar exams, be focused My advice is that it is not the end of the world, there’s still another opportunity to do better and to come out with a better result just to like concentrate and study hard and be focused. There’s still another chance to do better, it’s not the end of the world. Being the first lawyer in the family is God’s doing I attribute my success only to God because I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this by my power alone. It couldn’t have been my effort only but the grace of God has seen me through so I attribute my success wholly to God and I also thank my parents for believing in me and giving me the right foundation and supporting me all throughout the way.

Artificial nails: The good you know, how about the bad? Text by Eseohe Ebhota @sleek_diva88

A

rtificial nail fixing is a common trend with ladies who want be seen as classy, gorgeous, trendy and fashionable. Infact there are some who don’t feel comfortable if they don’t fix the nails. Also known as nail extensions, false nails or nail enhancements, artificial nails are coverings placed over the fingernails as fashion accessories. Some attempt to imitate the appearance of real fingernails as closely as possible, while other designs may deliberately stray in appearance from real fingernails. Artificial nails are made from a wide variety of materials. It is known that artificial nails add to the beauty of a lady’s nails. I fix artificial nails because I also love them. But what we ladies forget is

that there are dangers associated with fixing these nails. Some of these nails applied to the natural nail surface, minor types of trauma to the artificial nails

which can happen from something as harmless as scraping a nail against a firm surface can cause separation of the nail from its nail bed. This allows bacteria and fungus to potentially enter the separated area setting up an infection. Sticking the artificial nail to our natural nail always leaves a gap in between both surfaces. This gap between them provides a moist, warm environment in which an infection can thrive. These infections might also occur if the acrylic nails are too long or rigid, or the nails are applied with unsanitary tools. Caution: Before fixing any artificial nail, ensure that your natural nails are in good condition and they can stand the pressure of the artificial nail and force applied when fixing it. (I am not saying fixing these nails are bad but they should be done with caution)

Hearing impaired young face dangers Text by Nathaniel Bivan

T

he Deaf Women Association of Nigeria has raised concern about hearing-impaired young people who are exposed to street dangers because of their impairment. Chairperson of the association, Helen Beyioku Alase, said deaf young people in particular have fallen victim to human trafficking because “there is no one to speak to them” to help them get a tip of what would befall them. She wrote her comments at a seminar for students at Government Secondary School, Kuje, Abuja recently to help students develop paths and avoid street begging and constant exposure to street life. Alase said young people are being victimised out of communication barrier, hence the need to build them up to face the challenges ahead. A student of the school, Stephen Emmanuel said he was worried about those beggars on the streets who could have done better things if they do not have any impairment. Another student said her dream is to become a teacher and hopes to draw from her experience at the seminar to achieve the goal.

Smoothies: Getting the best out of your fruits Text by Eseohe Ebhota @sleek_diva88

S

moothies are thick drinks whose main ingredients are either fruits or vegetables and other nutrient dense ingredients. They are wonderful options for a meal or a snack when made with natural items. Experts say that a truly healthy smoothie should have some dietary fat for the body to use in assimilating the vitamins. For example, blending a banana with ice and skim milk does provide a great deal of benefits or nutrients. Sometimes we tend to skip breakfast but drink fluids like coffee, water. But since our body pulls water from

many foods in order to stay hydrated, you won’t have to drink water when you’re sipping on a smoothie (especially a homemade one without sugar). Milk and yogurt contain a large amount of water, so if your smoothie is dairy-based, it’ll reduce your thirst. The when the weather is hot, you can add some ice cubes to the blender for extra water. Other benefit of smoothies is that they provide calcium for the body, they help in weight reduction, and they help in keeping an individual fit. While hanging out with friends today and throughout the weekend, make sure a smoothie (whether homemade or professionally made) is part of your diet.  Chocolate smoothie and strawberry smoothie

Successful bakery owners are persistent – Aisha Text by Latifat Opoola @LatifatOpoola

on someone to keep footing my bills, and that’s how it started” she said. The 21 year old told DT_ Youthville the decision to take up pastry was an easy one because she loves cooking and combining different recepies in the kitchen.

Successful bakery owners are persistent and not easily deterred. They recognize success isn’t always immediate and know that things won’t go well the first day in a bakery; it is either the recipe that doesn’t come outright the product won’t sell well initially. But it doesn’t mean those things are wrong they just need a little time to develop and a persistent owner to see them through to success”- Aisha Labo, the CEO of Diamond Taste said. The final year Law student of Baze University started Diamond Taste about two years ago after several attempts by her mum at getting her interested in entrepreneurship. “The motivation came when I was pressured to start something. In my house there is this unspoken rule for everyone to be entrepreneurial; my elder sister always does some  Aisha Labo things to support herself. So when I graduated from secondary A i s h a who started the school, it was expected of me to business in 2013 with about start something but I didn’t. The undergraduate who has 2 staff working for her said her products are different and unique because of the extra attention she gives to them. “Asides the taste, the facts that they are fresh, because I make them strictly on orders, my products are Unique because of the way it is packaged. You know when a food is displayed in a colorful and creative manner, even when you are not hungry you are tempted to want to taste” she said. Aisha whose major challenge as with other students is combining school work and the business said she intends to surmount those challenges adding “that most people have surmounted it so why can’t I”. The young entrepreneur who hopes to practice full time said her products are very affordable adding that she makes a minimum profit of about N50000 in a month. Her advice youth with the passion for cooking is to try the business as it is a lucrative one. She also calls on ladies to be independent adding “that no matter the quality of number of degrees one has, there are limited white collar jobs out there, so being entrepreneurial, having a trade, something genuine that fetches income, no matter how little pays.

Senate rejects N5,000 monthly stipend for unemployed youths Text by Simon E. Sunday @SimonEchewofun

T

he Senate yesterday rejected a motion for the payment of N5,000 monthly allowance to unemployed youths in Nigeria. The local news agency reported that the motion was sponsored by Sen. Philip Aduda (PDP FCT) but was greeted with shouts of ‘’no, no’’ while he was explaining it. Attempts by the Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, to second the motion were disrupted by the rowdiness created by the ‘’no’’ shouting of some senators opposed to it. Intervening, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, posed the question but the senators responded along party lines. While Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members yelled ‘’aye’’ in favour of the motion, All Progressives Congress (APC) senators, who were in majority, rejected it. However, a motion calling for the probe of the utilisation of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) funds by the immediate past administration was adopted by the senators. Mover of the motion, Sen. Babajide Omoworare, prayed that every naira spent by the past government on SURE-P and other poverty alleviation programmes should be accounted for. In his remarks, Saraki urged the senators to take the issue of unemployment very seriously and not play politics with it. He said, “We should stay above party line on this issue that is so important. We have seen growth in the last years but this has not translated to employment. Government alone cannot do it; the private sector has a role to play and the enabling environment must be created.”

he acting Executive Vice Chairman at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta has called on corporate organisations to collaborate with the commission to promote the game of tennis in the country. December in Lagos, with the winners going home with N5million, while the runners-up will grab N3million, local news agency reported. “As you may be aware, this is the maiden edition of this tournament; we are happy the way the commission’s gesture has been received since this tennis league was launched on May 23, 2015,” he said. Danbatta said the prize money for winners of the tournament would be reviewed to encourage more participation in the next edition. The Tambin team was one of the few teams to qualify at the semi-finals of the tournament and would prepare for the finals in Lagos next month.

T

he Principal of Government Day Secondary School Gauraka in Tafa local Government, Niger State, Hon. Larai Saliyu has called on parents to instil discipline and take more actions on their children. She made the call at the Parent, Teachers Association (P.T.A) and school board management committee meeting recently. Hon. Saliyu revealed that school Identity card, badge and sweater dress will be given to each student free as part of the school’s gesture while it will maintain punitive measures to curb cases of indiscipline in the school. Youth protest nomination of Education Secretary in Kaduna Text by Dickson S. Adama, Kaduna

Y

outh from Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State have protested the screening process and nomination of candidates for the position of Education Secretary in the council. The youths’ leader, Comrade Joshua C. Magaji, who spoke to newsmen in Kaduna said the outcome of the interview raises more questions than answers, adding that the person that topped in the written exams

didn’t even come close to making it in the oral test. “We are concerned over the recent screening of the twenty-three candidates who applied for the position of the Education Secretary which took place on the 15th October 2015 at the council chambers of Kauru local government secretariat in Kauru. The exercise raises more questions than supplies answers as the outcome of the screening interview left much to be desired. Many citizens of Kauru

local government area, question the rationale behind the nomination of the three candidates. “The problem and question here is that all the three short listed candidates come from one chiefdom. It is not possible for the screening committee to say that no candidate from both Chawai and Kumana chiefdom met the criteria. “Moreover, it is shocking to note that the person that topped in the written exams didn’t even come close to making it in the oral test. How

could that be possible?” he said Magaji said in the spirit of equity, fairness and justice, they are calling for the cancellation of the exercise in order for a new one to be conducted, adding that a new committee should be set up this time with seasoned educationist and administrators. He called on the youths to be law abiding and to pursue their grievances peacefully and without any chaos. He added that in this era of change and purposeful leadership, they will get justice for their course.

Velcroz organizes fundraiser for IDPs Text by Latifat Opoola @ LatifatOpoola

V

elcroz Nigeria, a company owned by a 25year old Nigerian is organizing a fundraiser to support the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria. During a recent visit to Daily Trust, the CEO of the company, Abdulhameed Usman and his Creative Director Ahmed Kabir Aliyu said their firsthand experience of the religious and political crises in Kaduna in the early 2000s was motivation for the fundraiser. They said the effects of crisis like these are devastating not just to businesses and economic activities that get shattered but also the people directly affected noting that they sometimes lose all purpose to life. “In the Kaduna crisis, we were the lucky few who were not affected; we saw our immediate neighbours who were well to do and had everything, lose it in the blink of an eye. Their lives were suddenly changed. I could remember my mum telling

us to go inside get our clothes and other belongings including food to help them out. “These were even people with 5pairs of school Uniform and would wear one on everyday of the week and if Kaduna’s crisis which

I experienced was this bloody now imagine Maiduguri,” Aliyu narrated. “And then Maiduguri became unstable, and when you compare the Kaduna events and that of Maiduguri you see the similarities

but this is more devastating. You see kids who have lost parents, siblings’ friends and all purpose to live. We want to help uplift their spirit so they can begin to have a purpose to life again,” Usman stated. The fundraising which will hold by November 21 and 22 will include fun activities like football match to engage the kids in the IDPS camps, while food items, clothes, toiletries will be donated to them. The CEO also noted that the company which has a customer base of 1200 intends to start giving back to the community as its corporate social responsibility because it isn’t about always making money, but also putting a smile on a child’s face. “Give a child food, and he will find play for himself. The moment we stop helping each other that is when we lose all humanity. These children can be our siblings, and it doesn’t matter if we are from different parts of the country, it is our individual and collective duty to start helping them because you never know what tomorrow holds for them” Usman concluded.
