He also called for unbiased funding opportunities which he said must be readily available for SME's. "If our SME's are knowledgeable and get enough funding or investors at least it will give rise to job opportunities to creative Young minds out there as well as raising the standard of living," Ojo said.
Youth cautioned on choice of mentors From Emma Elekwa, Awka Youths in Anambra State have been warned to be wary in their choice of people they look upto as mentors. Speaking during the 2nd National Youth Convention of Umueze Youth Council (UYC) to mark this year’s summit, Col Osita Okoye, a guest lecturer, noted that most of those who
come home to display stupendous wealth are of questionable integrity. He described them as jobless people who ran into sudden wealth, and as such try to use it to garner acceptability in the society through irrational spending. He said, “In this Isuofia, there are only few people who you can take as your role model. People like Soludo (former
CBN governor) who worked hard to climb the ladder of life. Another speaker, Mr Uchenna Obiakor charged the youth on the need to be steadfast in their aspiration and study studiously. He said that only hard work can guarantee success. He charged the youths to understudy those who are in the profession they have flair for, and use them as role
models and not just anyone who had cash to spend. “The real successful people we have in this community do not spend their money the way these other poor people who pose as rich men do. While the successful man has 10 million and is afraid of spending a million, these other people spend the only million they have, just to impress others,” he explained.

Eating fish improves kids’ IQ scores and sleep — Study By Simon E. Sunday @SimonEchewofun Eating fish once or more a week improved sleep in children younger than 12, a study published last month in the journal Scientific Reports said. Frequent fish-eaters scored higher on Intelligent Quotient (IQ) tests than those who seldom or never ate fish, CNN reported. The study reported by CNN also said children who eat fish once a week or more sleep better and score g g on higher, on average,
IQ tests than children who never eat fish or do so less than once a week. Studies have shown a connection between omega3s -- essential fatty acids found in many types of fish, including salmon, sardines and tuna -- and improved intelligence and better sleep. For the new study, more than 500 Chinese children between the ages of 9 and 11 answered how often they’d had fish in the previous month, with options ranging from “never” to “at least once per week.” At age 12, the children c completed an IIQ test that sscored their v verbal and nonverbal sskills. Children w who said they ate fish weekly scored 4.8 p o i n t s higher on
the IQ tests than those who said they “seldom” or “never” ate fish. Because the children were young, the University of Pennsylvania researchers did not ask which fish they ate. “Sometimes” eaters of fish scored 3.3 points higher on IQ exams. Parents also answered questions about sleep quality. The children who ate more fish had fewer disturbances while sleeping, indicating better overall sleep quality. Follow CNN Health on Facebook and Twitter The researchers recommend incrementally adding fish to a child’s diet. “Children should be introduced to it early on,” said Jennifer Pinto-Martin, a co-author of the study and executive director of Penn’s Center for Public Health Initiatives. As long as the fish has no bones and has been finely chopped, children can begin eating it by around age 2.

Oshinowo wants youth creative clubs in LGAs By Latifat Opoola @LatifatOpoola A renowned visual artist, Mr Kolade Oshinowo, has advised the Federal Government to establish creative clubs in the 774 local government areas in Nigeria, to make the youths self-reliant. Oshinowo, who gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said that creative clubs would enable the youths to think deeply and explore their talents in arts. The artist said the clubs should be run by highly competent facilitators welltalented in arts, and should be well-paid by the government. He said that every youth should belong to the club, which should be split
into various groups like beading, painting, drawing, sculpturing, carving, tie and dye, batik and others. According to him, an individual will pick an aspect of the arts that he or she finds interesting, and once the beading group is done with the training, members can move to another group, like carving. Oshinowo said that the youths, by so doing, would have been versatile in virtually all the aspects of arts, and would have varieties of money- spinning ventures at their disposal. “At the end of the day, youth would not be stranded looking for white-collar jobs, as these clubs would assist them in discovering their talents early enough,” he said.
