DECORATING WALLS WITH PAINTINGS:

- An opportunity for art and self-realization. Decorating walls with paintings opens a door to a wide range of experiments. In fact, you can buy the fabric, choose the layout, and proceed to create the artwork with your family or friends.

LAYOUT OPTIONS FOR ALL LIFE SITUATIONS

- With time, you can easily change the position of the paintings, add new frames or redecorate existing ones, add accessories to the composition, or remove certain aspects. Overall, this experience will definitely be far from boring.

THE RULES OF CHOOSING The painting and its frame have to cooperate in terms of colour with other elements in the interior such as curtains, couches, floor, and walls. In order to avoid the composition seeming obtrusive, refrain from choosing very bright artworks. To create an effective composition, it is best to base it on a specific theme or colour scheme. For example, black and white sceneries, flower themes, watercolour still life, and so on.

LAYOUT OPTIONS The most important rule: less is better than more. Surely, you do not want to live in a national gallery, so be careful when choosing a layout for the paintings. Remember that you want to pleasantly decorate the interior without making it excessive and cluttered. Ensure that you do not place the images too low or too high. The centre of the painting should be where the centre of the wall is according to height. In addition, avoid placing paintings too close to other objects in the interior.

D

id you notice that if an interior does not have zest that catches your eye, it becomes boring and plain? Perhaps the easiest and most accessible method to rid your interior of emptiness is to use paintings as wall décor. This option is suitable for those who do not plan to engage in capital renovations and serious alterations in the interior but still desire change. There are several arguments that favour décor specifically with paintings: - A relatively small cost and a wide range of choice. Of course, real hand-made works cannot be cheap but replicas will be afford-

able for everyone. After all, nobody is demanding specifically paintings. You can also incorporate herbarium, photos, abstractions, or everything at once. It all depends on your taste and the interior that you plan to decorate. - An easy and realistic option. You can use the traditional approach and hang the painting on nails, or you can simply attach it with ribbons or even place it on a shelf. These options are only suitable in the case that the image is not heavy. - Adaptable to any interior. If you move or have renovations, it is unnecessary to change the picture as well. It is sufficient to change the colour and style of the frame.

PAINTINGS CAN BE PLACED: • in a row horizontally or vertically • symmetrically or asymmetrically • individually or in groups A group of paintings can be assembled into a geometric figure such as a square or chaotically. The first option is suitable for strict and classical interiors whereas the second option is best for modern and youthful interiors. Decorating walls with paintings is one of the first traditional methods of formulating the interior. Due to its simplicity and unlimited options, this method will likely remain a popular choice for a very long time.

HOW TO INCORPORATE SHEEP SKIN IN THE INTERIOR

n capable hands, a rug made of sheep skin will not only refresh the living room, but will be a great addition to the bathroom, children’s room, and will even bring comfort to the cottage veranda. Not a single Scandinavian interior flourished without sheep skin and there is a good reason for this – it can be used as a rug, blanket, or even a bed for your fourlegged friends. The soft and fluffy sheep fur does not collect dust or cause allergies. Furthermore, it is easy to clean with either a vacuum cleaner or the laundry machine. A monochrome rug made of sheep skin can be placed in any corner of the home and it will perfectly fit in.

A SOFT HELPER A soft rug is an absolute must-have in the children’s room. It can easily replace a chair and become a comfortable zone for activities with your child – games and crafts. Place the rug at the foot of the bed and evening reading will no doubt become a pleasant habit!

THE ABORIGINAL SANCTUARY You can place the rug in the children’s room inside a tent or tepee for warmth and comfort. Have no doubts – the size of the sheep skin will be more than enough for your child to get comfortable with the company of his stuffed toys.

A BUDGET DECOR It is not necessary to place the sheep skin on the floor. For example, you can use it in the Scandinavian style and decorate the kitchen chairs. This way, you will not go beyond the limits of your budget while making the interior of the kitchen even more comfortable.

AGAINST ALL RULES Despite the general sceptical outlook, rugs in the bathroom are very acceptable and even necessary. Why not make a warm floor soft as well? Not to mention, sheep skin in a crème tone will be harmonious with any colour scheme.

THE GARDEN Making a comfortable veranda is much simpler than you think. Soft skin covers for lawn chairs will instantly create a relaxing and serene atmosphere. Furthermore, it will effectively conceal any cracks or scratches on the furniture.

A REPLACEMENT FOR SLIPPERS Do not forget to place a small rug in front of the bed in your bedroom. It is much more pleasant to feel sheep skin under your feet in the morning rather than a cold floor. Moreover, the sheep fur will keep you warm even in the winter.

AN ECONOMICAL APPROACH The sheep skin will be a great replacement for the expensive beds for your pets. There

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

is no need to pay more, especially since the sheep skin can be easily cleaned with the vacuum. Be assured: your pets will not feel the difference.

CAMOUFLAGE Your guests do not have enough chairs for your evening get-together? Not a problem! Use your imagination and simply cover a stool in sheep skin and it will transform into a comfortable chair. Although it is lacking a back, it is warm and soft.

COMFORT IN THE HOME In the cold winter evenings, the sheep skin will become an irreplaceable blanket. Its size will be just enough to cover your feet. All you have to do is get comfortable and turn on your favourite TV show.

WHAT IS A SACHET?

A

sachet is a packet filled with aromatic and ecological ingredients such as twigs, petals, grasses, spices, and pine needles. This is one of the most ancient methods of aromatherapy that remains popular and practical today. With the help of sachets, it is easy to fill the home or favourite clothes with a magical fragrance. At one point, this was considered a necessary attribute of the home of every lady. In order for the dry flowers and other natural materials to give off an aromatic fragrance for longer, add ethereal oils to the sachet. Besides providing an appealing aroma, they will be able to change the emotional background and help prevent diseases.

HOW CAN A SACHET BE USED? Most commonly, sachets are used to bring an aroma to closets of clothes, bed sheets, and other such items. You can use a simple packet or methodically decorate the sachet to become a true highlight of the room. When displayed in a basket or on a shelf, they will attract the eye and will fill the interior with a pleasant fragrance. If using the sachet as an item of dĂŠcor, consider placing it beside the bed. It will help you to relax and sleep well. In the workplace, sachets equipped with the right oils will help you to be productive and concentrated for a prolonged period of time. In the living room, the sachet will become a perfect accessory for family relaxation or romantic dates. Aromatic sachets can also become a perfect gift, especially when they are handmade. If you attach ribbons or loops to the sachets, you can hang them on hangers, shelves, door handles, and on wardrobes. Although superstitions may seem forgotten, the sachet is known to protect the home from negative energy and evil intentions.

Regarding filling the sachet, the most common ingredients are lavender, lemon balm and thyme as well as spices such as oregano, basil, and dill. Coffee, dried peels of citrus fruits, spices, aromatic tea, dried herbs and flowers, and pine are all options for the sachet, each with its own effect on one’s emotional state. For the children’s room, the mixture of lavender, lemon, and rose oils is best. For the bedroom, a mixture of rose and lavender is effective; for the living room – lavender, lemon, and rose. If you plan to use a sachet in the car, try a mixture of mint and pine. Do you want to obtain a specific therapeutic effect? Choose ethereal oils according to symptoms and field of attention.

GO GREEN! SIMPLE RULES OF AN ECOLOGICALLYFRIENDLY LIFESTYLE

A

nyone can take on the responsibility of contributing to the creation of an ecologically-friendly planet. While scientists, governments, and corporations search for a global solution, we can choose a tactic of taking small steps and transforming our daily lives into a new level of responsibility. Everything is practical and clear. Furthermore, leading an ecologically-friendly lifestyle will conserve your money, as illustrated below.

ADDING GREENERY TO YOUR PROPERTY First of all, greenery is beautiful and beneficial. By incorporating trees on your property, you can create a carcass for snow banks which will protect your home from the winter winds and will create a microclimate even in a confined space. In the summer, the greenery will protect the home from excessive sun exposure and will prevent you from exploiting the air conditioner.

SORTING GARBAGE Thankfully, Canada does not have major issues with sorting and displacing garbage

8

ALL ABOUT HOME

properly. We are equipped with all necessities to enable us to become active participants of making this country ecological for ourselves and our future generations. All we need to do is throw our garbage in the proper bins.

TURNING OFF DEVICES Besides ecological and safety benefits, turning off devices such as kitchen appliances, chargers, and mobile phones when you are not using them prolongs their lifetime. Develop a habit in yourself and your family to unplug gadgets that you do not plan to use anytime soon.

INCANDESCENT LIGHT BULBS If you need to light the home specifically with a warm yellow colour, you can find this option in the assortment of ecologically-friendly light bulbs. In fact, you can find just about any colour in this assortment. Statistics for the past ten years show that modern light bulbs truly help conserve sufficiently.

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

DECREASING THE AMOUNT OF HOME APPLIANCES Of course, this should not be done to the point of fanaticism. Returning to last century’s lifestyle is not what is encouraged here. However, if you have little children, curious pets, or family members with allergies, then you will need to decrease the amount of harsh cleaners. Natural substances do not have such a sharp smell and are an ecologically-friendly option.

BUYING LOCAL OR VINTAGE For one person, an item may seem garbage but for someone else it can be treasure. The golden rule does in fact work if we have no prejudices against used objects.

CLOSING HOLES Carefully examine your home for sources of unwanted breeze. The warmth needed during winter and the coolness needed during summer can easily escape your home through small cracks. One simple check can save you from discomfort and excess spending.

MODERN CHEVRON PRINT IN INTERIOR DESIGN

CHEVRON DESIGN FEATURES Chevron print is very stylish and makes the room more interesting, lively, and dynamic. Hence, if you are yearning for a change in your life, which like a breath of fresh air can help you reset and become more productive, try using vibrant and bold zigzag print.

C

ertain prints and patterns gain popularity in interior design thanks to their use in architecture, fine arts, and particularly the fashion world. The latter imposes great influence on our daily lives, including our surrounding objects and surfaces. True fashion trends often originate from fashion shows of famous designers. For decades, one such fashion trend has been a print called “chevron.” The term was used in Old French, and means “rafter.” Specifically, it refers to the meeting point of rafters that form a letter V. Chevron print became widely popular and has been used from the middle of the last

10

ALL ABOUT HOME

century to this day. This is particularly due to the famous brand of elite clothing, Missoni, which made this print a hallmark of its numerous design collections. However, chevron has been around for much longer: archeological discoveries made in Greece found this print used in wall paintings and ceramic jars.

CHEVRON IN INTERIOR DESIGN Modern chevron design has great variety: a combination of various V shapes – monochrome zigzags, and multicolor waves, among many others. It has many uses as well, including upholstery, decorative accessories, wallpaper, tiles, and carpets.

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

If the interior has a neutral colour palette, chevron print can be used to accentuate the room – in a form of a carpet, drapes, or original tiles. Chevron print works well with monochrome floral patterns: chevron upholstery of a chair or a sofa looks well with floral pillows. Any room is guaranteed to look stylish with chevron wallpaper on one of the walls – an excellent background for decorative accessories with a gold or silver polish. In the kitchen, a backsplash decorated in chevron can add character to the most boring cabinet. In the children’s room, chevron can do well to replace the usual naïve wall and ceiling paintings, although it is better not to experiment too much with bright colours.

DECORATING WITH BRICKS

B

rick is an ancient material that has been used in construction for centuries. Today’s market offers bricks of building grade as well as decorative bricks used for both outside and inside trimming and decoration. Today, bricks have become an interior decoration material of choice in connection with the latest trend to use ecologically clean, natural substances to create a certain style of decor. Another choice is wood but it is considerably more expensive than brick and thus not as widely affordable. Decorative bricks come in many shapes, patterns, and colours, making it easy to choose the type appropriate for the desired style of decor. Bricks are resistant to moisture but not waterproof which means that sooner or later they will start deteriorating in constant moisture conditions. In order to extend their durability, decorative bricks should be treated with a special solution that makes them waterproof. This treatment is especially recommended for the bricks used to decorate a bathroom. Some styles of decor can do with faux brickwork “revealed” in places from under “chipped” plaster (French Provence). In others, the whole wall or part of it can be made of laid bricks (country style). In the case of classic interiors bricks find their use in decorating fireplaces and walls around them. Window and door openings look great encased in brick “frames” with rounded corners. Glossy bricks look better in modern interiors that call for smooth, shiny, light-catching materials. Classical style interiors will profit from matte brick surfaces or even antiqued brick that will impart an ancient look to a modern dwelling. Decorative brick is an inexpensive way to add uniqueness and charm to your home. Laying a whole brick wall is quite a risky proposition – but a small fragment of the wall, a corner, or a recess decorated with brick will draw attention and incite admiration.

great way to add a splash of colour to your walls without resorting to paint is through wallcoverings. Paint surely has its place and purpose in the interior; however, be aware that it is not your only option for dressing the walls in your home.

If I’ve piqued your interest, look into my top tips for how to make a statement with wallcoverings that I present below.

A

Wallcoverings have come of long way from the kitschy papers of the past. Modern wallcovering has matured to include a sophisticated colour palette and patterns, and a full range of materials and textures to create the perfect ambiance. You can expect this trend to gain dominance in wall décor in 2018 and onwards. The options of wallcoverings and truly endless and exciting: hemp and organic

If you want to create or add interest or avoid a monochromatic coloured space, consider a feature wall! It is a great way to incorporate wallcoverings that will highlight your interior. Choosing the perfect feature wall is all about selecting the right focal point. To determine what the focal point is, think about the first thing you notice upon entering the room. It could be a wall with the fireplace or mantel, or a unique architectural feature that instantly draws the eye. Use a stand-out wallcovering to make the feature wall a real showpiece. When it comes to aesthetics, consider the colour, pattern, texture and sheen of the material. The ultimate goal is a feature wall

with “pop.” Be brave and choose something you really love for its vibrancy and “wow” factor. After all, it is just one wall. Go all in! On Trend for 2018: Keep your eye on rose gold, geometric patterns and intense shades of fuchsia, purple, blue and green. When shopping for wallcoverings, take the time to visit the showroom and check out some samples in person. Look at them in different lights. If possible, take some samples home to view in the light of the room you’re considering them for. Remember, the tactile experience is just as important as the visual one, so here’s your chance to get “touchy-feely.” Hotspot: Alendel is my go-to, with tons of great styles to choose from, as well as custom options. When it comes to the logistics of it all, you have some decisions to make there too. Let’s face it - we’re not all DIYers. SECRETS OF FAST SALES: Pros and Cons of Pre-Sale Repairs Hello, I’m Natalia Slobidker! I am a professional full-time realtor. I specialize in real estate pre-sale preparation, sales strategy development and keeping real estate transaction risks at a minimum. My mission: minimum stress – maximum benefit, in any real estate transaction. Today, my article addresses those who are battling conflicting opinions – whether or not to repair their property before selling it, whether it pays off, and whether it is worth the time and effort. In most cases, the answer to this question is “yes,” but it is still somewhat of a problem that has many unknowns and the final answer depends on what obstacles each unknown presents. Despite this, I will be giving some general recommendations which will likely be beneficial to owners of the average property for their particular area. An experienced realtor can tell you what features are considered standard for a specific price range in a specific area. If for some reason your house does not have these features, it is likely that you will need to add them. It is very important to decide what level of repair your home needs. If your home is more than 20 years old and has never been repaired, then, depending on its price range, it can either get stuck on the market for a long time or else you will have to lower your expectations. However, usually the situation is one where in some corner of the house some repairs were done but the overall impression remains unaffected. How so? Well, “the devil is in the details”. Invisible to the eye, they alert our brain: “the house is old and in poor condition; it requires repair” or, conversely, “entering this house, I can immediately start living, not haven broken a sweat.” Meanwhile, the paradox lies in that the first house may be repaired much

16

ALL ABOUT HOME

more extensively than the second despite the exact opposite impression.

After renovating:

Not to be unfounded, I offer an example from recent practice. I was called to a house approximately 30 years old, the owners of which had invested more than a grand in upgrades and improvements, but for some reason the house was not being sold for the desired amount. The first thing I noticed upon entering the house was that it was home to positive and cheerful people and had a joyful atmosphere. This is great for daily life, but it may have an undesirable effect on the sale. Entering the kitchen, I found a rich orange color; in contrast to such a background, the kitchen looked old and yellowed. This impression was reinforced by really old appliances and worktops. That is, the owners were not satisfied with the kitchen cabinets, so they changed them and added new ones. As a result, the kitchen had become more functional. Naturally, when it was time to sell, they had expected to sell the house as renovated and improved. Unfortunately, the kitchen still looks old in the eyes of a potential buyer. To solve this problem, all I had to do is pick a new colour for the walls so that it flattered the kitchen, change the countertop and appliances, and change the handles to something more interesting. Et voilà: the kitchen has gained an improved look, now matching its functional state. Here are photos of the kitchen – judge for yourself.

The rest of the stone slab was used to replace the countertops in the bathroom; coupled with a repainting of the wall, this produced the same effect as in the kitchen. Here is the bathroom before renovation:

Before renovating:

I will continue the topic of pre-sale repairs and other aspects affecting your property prices in the next issue. If you do not want to or cannot wait, have questions to which you would like to get some utmost honest answers, want to evaluate your property, or begin your search for a new one, please call me and I will gladly help you out! It was also necessary to abandon the bright colors in the bedrooms –since these emphasized their residents’ individuality – in favour of a more neutral palette acceptable to the majority. Before:

I was not able to resist committing a little designer hooliganism – we left a trace of the original color on one of the walls. As a signature: “we were here.” Thanks to correct proportions and presentation, the room simply became more interesting. If you are unsure that you can determine these proportions, either entrust them to professionals or else forego them altogether. The average ROI (return on investment) of renovations and subsequent redecoration ranges from 200-700%. Sometimes a simple permutation combined with a modified wall or floor colour can transform your property beyond recognition.

T

he New Year is upon us, and we are all excited to see what will be trending in the world of interior design. One of the leading trends in 2018 will be

focused on colour. Colour will gain dominance in the upcoming year and will continue to inspire designers to use it in interesting ways in the interior. Whether you use it abundantly in a room or minimally to punctuate your space, 2018 is definitely going to be all about colour. From the revival of retro colours like burnt orange to warm earthy palettes of pinks,

plum greys, and to rich red, bold fuchsia and striking blue, the palettes for 2018 are simply fantastic. The combinations are endless and daring. In the world of metals, gold will wear the crown in the upcoming year. All shades of gold will be trending; from the antiqued shades to the warm yellow tones. Gold will definitely be the go-to metal.

One of my personal favourites when it comes to golden tones is un-lacquered brass. This finish is organic, and is often referred to as “living.” It has a unique and individualized look and feel. The absence of lacquer allows the durable and solid brass to naturally age over time and develop a beautiful and unique patina of colour and texture. Texture is another focus in 2018. It can be found in the plushness and luxury of a rich velvet fabric – very “en-pointe” in the upcoming year – or in simple colour-washed wallpaper. Regardless, texture will play a key role in 2018. A fantastic go-to supplier to check out in 2018 is Alendel Fabrics. They offer not only a great selection of durable velvets in a wide range of colours, but have also launched a wide selection of textural wallcoverings that are sure to inspire. Concrete will also be a finishing trend this year. It will be appearing everywhere: on the floor, the walls, or even the countertops. Geometrically shaped concrete tiles will be particularly popular, as will polished and distress concrete finishes. Continuing on the path of colour and texture, botanicals will maintain their popularity. Whether they are used in fabrics or wallcoverings, their impact will not be missed. In the kitchen, black and deep rich greys are the new white, accompanied by warm textured woods and metals to create a modern, slightly industrial aesthetic. Colour will be prevalent in the kitchens as well as the bathrooms. Companies like the luxury British bathing brand Victoria+Albert offer free-standing tub collections, now available in six new external finishes including a rich and stunning gloss-black and beautiful Antracite. A coloured free-standing tub can be just the perfect complement to gold toned bathroom faucets and fittings, creating a luxurious and sophisticated modernistic look. Check out the latest options at vandabaths.com. Regardless of your personal style – whether it is industrial vintage, modern, traditional, or Scandinavian, to name a few –

2018 will offer new and interesting ways to incorporate colour into any interior. It will be a year of colour, warmth and inspiration. Embrace the trends you’ll be seeing to create a warm and inviting home to enjoy for years to come.

EASY WAYS TO CREATE THE AROMA OF NATURE IN THE HOME

I

n order to achieve the smell of nature in the home, it is unnecessary to purchase aerosol cans, sprays, or toxic aromatic disks. There are methods to create pleasant fragrances using nat-

ural ingredients.

AN ASSORTMENT OF DRIED FRUITS If you enjoy a sweet and pleasant aroma, you can create an assortment of dried fruit slices, the peels of citrus fruits, and cinnamon twigs. The combination of the strong smell of peel and various spices effectively uplifts the mood. Such a sachet can be hand-made and you can display it in an elegant vase in the living room or bedroom.

ALL ABOUT HOME

FRAGRANT WAX BARS Fragrant wax bars with the delicate smell of roses, lavender, or other flowers are much easier to create than you think. Simply place your favourite flowers in melted wax and freeze it. You can use these bars in small spaces such as a closet – hang several bars on the back wall of the closet and it will become filled with the freshness of spring flowers.

AROMATIC REEDS Fragrant oils are not limited to candles – they can be effectively incorporated with reeds. The light aroma of oils, emitted from wooden reeds, will not be overwhelming. Furthermore, the entire composition with the reeds will belong in any interior.

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

All that you need to do is find a suitable bottle (you can decorate it accordingly if you wish), mix several oils at its base (three is enough), and place the reeds inside. It may take some time for the aroma to appear. In order to speed up this process and fully drench the reeds, you can alternate between placing the reeds from both ends. You can also experiment with various types of oils and choose the combination that is most appealing to you. This arrangement can be placed on the dining table or nightable. Enjoy!

COFFEE CANDLES Much like freshly brewed coffee, these candles smell mouth-watering! Instead of throwing away used powdered coffee, use it for the creation of candles that will fill your home with the pleasant aroma of coffee beans.

FRESH BAKED GOODS Nothing makes our evening after work better than the smell of fresh baked goods! This aroma overshadows all other fragrances and has an appealing advantage – it is edible! Enjoy experimenting!

AIR IN THE HOME: 9 DESIGNER SECRETS OF FREE SPACE

diffuse light into all of the rooms in the interior. “Go to the light” – the law of a good architect and a rule in a spacious interior.

4

Choose modern furniture made from transparent material with thin legs or made from nets. A net is light and allows air to easily travel through; it is transparent and does not block anything. Consequently, it will be suitable in any interior and will not create a heavy atmosphere. Lately, weaving has become increasingly popular. It is common to see weaves in the back of chairs and armchairs, sofas, shelves, cabinet doors, and lampshades. Weaved lampshades look very effective in an interior as they provide a complex set of decorative shades. Netted furniture can look both romantic and industrialized depending on the specific material used.

5

The best helper in widening the interior is the garbage bin. Sometimes, it is enough to simply get rid of unneeded accessories that you do not use. This will allow you to enjoy a “sudden” feeling of lightness.

6

A flower basket should be part of the wall; only this way a proper balance will be achieved. Here, another tip comes into play. If the cornice is the same colour as the walls, it adds to the height; however, if it is the same colour as the ceiling, it adds to the width. It is best to choose an intermediate colour between that of the ceiling and walls.

7

Choose cooler tones for the background as they seem lightweight. This theme should be upheld by lamps with thin stems, neutral wooden frames around the furniture, and so on.

ot enough space? Your apartment gives off the impression of a thrift shop or residential warehouse? Below is a list of tips and methods that will help you “widen” your space and will allow you to take a deep breath. You will not need to buy extra square meters.

28

When organizing your space, avoid independently standing wardrobes. Hide

anything you can into walls, niches, or even hidden storage spaces in the floor and ceiling. This way, it will be easy to uphold a tidy interior. Partitions from the floor to the ceiling are not necessary. Allow the light to fill the entire interior. Only the bathroom can be fully isolated from the outside world. Doors made in a matte material instead of panels work for the same goal – they

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

Get rid of any excess items around the windows. Heavily decorated windows make the interior visually smaller. If the view from the window is a panorama of a busy city, obtaining rolling curtains is sufficient for the room to seem more spacious.

9

Do not become attached to one item or scheme; be able to easily change the interior around. If you wish, you can even move. Do not keep more items than necessary for your daily life or memories. Most importantly, when choosing an apartment, pay attention to the view from the window. The sky, sun, greenery, and landscapes that you wish to look at over and over again are exactly the type of air you need.

common guest of the living room and kitchen is the glass table. Despite the fact that this article of furniture has become quite popular, there are certain specific aspects of using a glass table in the interior.

weight and buoyant; therefore, you should use a glass coffee table when you want to emphasize the “lightness” of your furniture composition.

A GLASS TABLE IN THE KITCHEN

Furthermore, glass tables are effective tools that you can use to highlight the beauty of the construction of the table legs. With a regular surface, they may be simply invisible but with a glass surface, you will be able to take a closer look at their intricate design.

Glass tables can find their place in almost any kitchen interior. They always look light-

Many think that massive wooden legs for a glass table look quite heavy; however, we

think the opposite – this is an interesting game of contrast of forms and textures.

A GLASS TABLE IN THE HOME OFFICE It is no secret that the modern home office is steadily moving away from minimalism towards luxury and even avant-garde. Today’s home office is the result of masterful designing. For this reason, the glass table is perfect for such an office. If you carefully observe various types of interiors, you will notice that a glass table will look elegant in practically any style of design.

A GLASS TABLE IN THE LIVING ROOM The same can be said regarding the interior of other rooms in the home, including the living room. Generally, family and friends get together in this room so a table is a necessity. A glass table will become a good solution: it is elegant, “light,” and at the same time shows the aesthetic taste of the home owner. Today, a glass table can decorate a classical living room and a room in the modern style. Ensure that the combination of the avantgarde and the classical style harmoniously fit with the design of the interior.

HOW TO FILL THE EMPTY CORNER IN THE LIVING ROOM become a stand on which you can place flowers or the home telephone. If you add a mirror, it will look even better. In fact, if the interior allows, you can incorporate a tall mirror. This option will be especially effective if the mirror will be in a beautiful frame.

AN ORIGINAL FLOOR LAMP This idea is brilliant from both the aesthetical and practical viewpoints. In addition, this option will be the perfect solution if the corner happens to be between two couches or armchairs. This way, if you wish to read a novel in the comfort of your living room, the soft glow from the floor lamp will make this process enjoyable.

POTTED PLANTS AND FOLDING SCREENS If you do not have any specific ideas for the corner, consider incorporating the classic palm tree or large fig in a beautiful pot.

Y

ou have probably noticed that even in a well-organized living room, the corners are generally “free running.” It is unfortunate to allow so much free space to be wasted especially if you do not have much room to work with. Let’s think about how to occupy the empty corner for it to be practical or at least aesthetically pleasing!

CORNER FURNITURE The first solution that comes to mind is, of course, corner furniture. All kinds of cabinets and shelves are the kinds of furniture that will perfectly fit into the corner and at the same time be practical. You can use them to store various items or even as a home bar.

DECORATIVE NICHES If the idea of renovations has just come to your mind, look into the option of decorative niches in the corners of the living room. Pairing them up, you will create a very harmonious element of design. It will be ideal for symmetry in the American style of the interior. Nevertheless, the niches can be made in the Eastern style, if per say, you are looking for a Morocco interior.

CONSOLE AND MIRROR Placing an entire table in the corner is difficult and realistically, you will not need it in the living room. A thin console table, on the other hand, sounds much better! It can

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

This idea may seem simple, yet its effects are drastic. Another simple and realistic option is to “cover” the corner with a decorative folding screen. If the room is spacious and has two free corners, we recommend creating a symmetrical composition with two folding screens.

A WORK OR READING SPACE Believe it or not, but that empty corner that had no duty may instantly become a true home office or a mini library. Fortunately, finding corner furniture today is not a problem. Most importantly, ensure that the reading or working corner has sufficient lighting; you can use a table lamp or additional sources.
