W
hat can brighten up your interior more than fresh flowers? Lively colours and pleasant aromas feel especially cheerful in the midst of cold months. By selecting winterfriendly plants and flowers, you will be able to add life to your space, even when nothing is blooming outside.
HELLEBORE
HYPERICUM BERRIES
Birch branches can visually increase the height of your space and add an architectural touch to it. For a rustic holiday look, mix the branches with cedar and pine cuttings in a unique vintage container.
Known as the Christmas rose, hellebore brings the natural beauty of the winter flowering season into your house! Mixed with holly and branches of pine, this gorgeous flower will make everything appear Christmassy.
BIRCH BRANCHES
The rich berry hues above your fireplace will look elegant and festive. You can combine branches of hypericum berries with red roses, sprigs and branches of pine. Trailing amaranthus will add even more beauty to the composition.
CAMELLIA Pot camellia embodies elegance and freedom, both of which are exactly what you need for your holiday decoration. The red and pink tones of these stylish flowers will infuse a romantic vibe into your holiday setup.
RED TULIPS While pink and yellow tulips are generally associated with spring, red tulips are the epitome of the holidays. To add a bit of texture, combine them with juniper sprigs.

MODERN BATHROOM
DESIGN FROM BATH CITY
I
t is desirable to approach the arrangement of the bathroom very carefully and thoughtfully. Usually, this room does not take up much space and it is quite easy to reload it with unnecessary furniture and household appliances. The main thing to strive for here is to create a comfortable zone for relaxation and stress relief.
PLUMBING The appearance of the sink and bathtub dictates the style of this room. When planning the bathroom, consider using different types of plumbing. If you are trying to save space, then install an angular plumbing. Think about how much you love taking a bath. Maybe you prefer a shower, and you only occasionally take other water treatments? Then put a shower stall - it will save extra space. A beautiful bath is not necessarily placed near the wall. Nothing prevents you from placing it on the legs in the middle, creating a peculiar centre of attention. If you choose the built-in bath, then put a partition that will make it more comfortable.
MODERN BATHROOM FAUCETS The most commonly used single-lever models rotate left or right to change the pressure and temperature of the water.
The most modern devices include thermostats, and they limit the water temperature so that you will never get burned. These stylish chrome products look great in a modern interior.
LIGHTING Lighting also plays an important role in this room. It should be not only bright but also performed in water-resistant ceiling lamps. At the end of the day, safety is above all! Furthermore, it may be better to make different lighting for different times of the day. You can install a separate lamp near the mirror, and that will be enough for shaving or applying makeup. As for the ceiling, you can install several main spotlights to illuminate the whole room at night. If you have a large mirror on the wall, you can install beautiful lighting around its perimeter, just as Hollywood stars would do. And in order to properly plan the space, taking into account the requirements and wishes of family members and creating a truly comfortable, practical, modern and safe bathroom, All About Home, as always, recommends that you contact professionals.
BATH CITY Today Bath city is not only the most famous company in Toronto on the market of equipment, furniture and design for bathrooms
and kitchens but also the owner of the widest range of products of this kind, including those from European manufacturers. Huge selection and excellent quality allow you to give a new look to your favourite rooms, even if you do not have a large budget.
INDIVIDUAL PROJECT Experienced designers will carefully and thoroughly examine your desires in order to create a project that reflects your character and mood. Each project is a true collaboration that integrates your goals with our experience.
EUROPEAN DESIGN Every European design is a work of art made just for you. Whether it is a bathroom, a cabinet or plumbing, the latest technology is the hallmark of European design that is also embodied in the most modern collections from Italy and Germany.

CURVES TO ADMIRE: Forged Design In your Home better than a gorgeous fireplace with an ornamental screen and decorative tools. Another way to infuse hand-fashioned design into your space is to get furniture with forged details. Just as the fireplace, your dining table is a gathering place that deserves to be special. A hand-forged iron table adds a unique style to your room and provides functionality for generations to come. Sometimes even small accents can enhance the mood and feel of ambience. Mirrors, candleholders, racks, clocks and vases,- you can find or customize the perfect wrought iron decorations to compliment your space!
H 6
and-forged style celebrates custom craftsmanship and personality. While many people associate it with cottages and country life, the style can perfectly fit into any interior design and help you express your excellent taste. Believe it or not, the original forged works will impeccably blend into classic, minimalism or Provance.
For instance, you can start by combining hand-forged artisan craftsmanship with modern digital technology. In other words, get a custom lighting source with elaborately-forged details. It can be a textured bronze chandelier or a steel pendant with seedy glass. Even small things such as candlesticks and pot holders with handforged details bring a touch of glory to your room.
Indeed, there are so many ways to use the hand-forged style in your interior!
If you dream about gathering the family around the hearth, nothing will serve you

SIMPLY SCANDINAVIAN enhance the classic Scandinavian look by complementing a neutral colour palette. While a floor lamp can create a welcoming feeling in the living room, table lamps work perfectly for illuminating your bedroom or reading corner.
INNOVATION AND FUNCTIONALITY As mentioned above, “less is more rule is the key. Choose furniture with clean lines, smooth rounded edges and natural colours. And remember one of the major trends of Scandinavian designs: functionality. You can practice it when arranging your storage. Multileveled wall shelving and sized cabinetry will wisely contribute to the clean look of your house.
S
candinavian interior design is the epitome of simplicity, minimalism and functionality. Originated in the 1950s, it celebrates an appreciation for craftsmanship and understated luxury in living spaces. Neutral colours, clean lines and natural materials, these elements are prioritized in the interior design in five Nordic countries - Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. And with these tips, you will be able to create a Scandinavian interior design in your own home.
LIGHT SCIENCE Of course, with only seven daylight hours in winter, interior lighting becomes crucial. Therefore, if you want to brighten up your space with pleasing Scandinavian aesthetics, master the art of light. This includes complementing natural light by modern digital technologies and using several light sources: typical Danish Design pendants, wall, table and floor lamps. Besides commonly placing pendant lights above your dining table and staircases, you can use them in some innovative and refreshing ways. For example, hanging pendant lights above your bedside table or bath tab helps you save precious space. Black, white or bronze wall lights, on their turn, can really

LIGHT FLOORING Your flooring must contribute to extending the space and providing more light. Traditionally, the hard-wood white floor can perfectly complete those tasks and make your space look visually relaxing.
NEUTRAL COLOURS All hues of white, grey, black and brown could be associated with Scandinavian designs. The neutral colour palette can be effectively accented with pastel pink and sea green. In order to allow the furniture and art pieces to captivate, consider keeping the walls white.
SIMPLE ACCENTS When decorating the house, you can take inspiration from geometry. As with the other elements, keep your decorative accents simple. Ceramic vases and small pillows in subtle colours offer you an opportunity to play with texture. And fresh flowers will bring colour to the neutral palette, enhancing the beauty of the entire design.

Turn Up The Heat - And The Style!
A
s the days are now shorter and nights are colder and with the holidays ahead, we are craving cozy evenings curled up by the fireplace. But this fabulous interior feature is so much more than just a cold-weather comfort. As a designer, I love incorporating fireplaces into many of my designs. The fireplace is the obvious focal point

and gathering place; thus, it demands some thoughtful consideration on a few matters. If you wish to add a fireplace to your home in 2019, here are some things to consider
THE STYLE There are about as many different styles of the fireplace as there are many types of personality. Shop around, and remember that
e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com
your fireplace will likely dictate the overall style of the room, so choose carefully. Contemporary styles are enjoying their heyday, with some really beautiful linear fireplaces, see-through designs, double-sided and three-sided units, with crystals, river rocks or driftwood log inserts. While contemporary is certainly cool, there’s something to be said about a classic style of fireplace. These choices tend to age well, often

featuring hardwood or a universal neutral stone surround from companies like Erth Coverings that won’t soon go out of style. Did you know? The fireplace mantel was originally intended to catch smoke and soot. Nowadays, it has become a feature piece. A heavy mantel is wonderful to display seasonal collections, photos or art.
THE SURROUNDINGS Since the fireplace is an instant focal point in a space, it’s important to ensure its surroundings complement and highlight it well. The classic layout is to arrange furniture in a U shape, facing the fireplace, inviting people to sit, chat and inevitably, nap. Accessorize the area with cozy blankets, pillows and a snug rug underfoot for the ultimate comfort. When springtime rears its head again, you can swap these heavier, thicker textiles for lighter, airier ones. Above the fireplace, hang a mirror or a piece of art that echoes the size of the firebox, which will achieve balance.
INSTALLATION As important as the fireplace itself, is how it is installed. In this regard, “out of sight, out of mind” is the goal. Ensure you consult a contractor or installer, who can tell you about what’s possible, what isn’t, and how much it’ll all cost. To ensure the right product is selected and installed, work with a qualified fireplace expert. A great resource is Kastle Fireplaces, which I recommend for their expertise on everything from the size of the unit to materials best to be used in the space.
valorfireplaces.com
Designer Find: The latest must-see is the Valor radiant gas fireplaces, which employ a unique hidden ducting system that draws heat up and re-circulates it in the room. The walls and the general area around the fireplace are cooler, reducing the risk of fire or damage to surface materials and valuables like artwork or electronics. If the thought of curling up by the hearth, listening to the crackling fire, and enjoying the ambience warms your heart, a fireplace you love will be well worth the investment.

Getting The Guest Room Holiday Ready!
T
he holidays are almost here. If you’re lucky enough to have a guest room, chances are good that you’ll be hosting someone there this holiday season. Of course, you want your guests to be comfortable. Here’s how to treat your guests like they’re staying at a Boutique Hotel with just enough conveniences to indulge their inner 5 class traveller but not enough space for them to move in! It’s all about the bedroom- having a nice retreat from the chaos is really what every guest craves.
CREATE INVITING NIGHTSTAND Just like at hotel guests want a place to rest their glass of water at night, place a book and even plug in their cell phone. Too often people select nightstands that are too

small for the scale of their bed and often too short. It’s important that your guest can easily reach their personal items when sitting in bed without having to bend over. Add in some festive touches and add perhaps an alarm clock and a glass of water.

HAVE A LIGHT FOR READING Unless your guest passes out from one to many glasses of mulled wine, they will likely want to read before going to sleep at night. Whether it be an electronic device or a book. Make sure you have enough pillows and either a standard table lamp or an articulated reading light. Don’t rely on overhead lighting. You also want your guest to be able to turn that light our without stepping out of bed - just like in a fancy hotel.

rested guest the next morning. Look at Canadian companies like ENDY(endy.com) that offer the perfect balance of comfort and support with their foam mattresses and pillows at affordable prices that ships free directly to your door. No added hassle of going to the store, this bestselling mattress comes rolled up in a box of a hockey-
bag-size and can be easily transported even to your cottage. No more sore backs and cranky mothers-in-law!
BLOCK THE LIGHT Drapery and window treatments are often overlooked in a guest room. A good night’s
sleep can be interrupted by city lights or early sunrise and again you want your guests WELL-RESTED! As a designer, I like to layer window treatments, one layer for privacy and the other for darkness. There is no one size fits all solution but an easy option is a roller blind for privacy and fully closing blackout drapery to really block the pesky sunlight. Keep these tips in mind when designing an inviting retreat for holiday guests. Invest in quality and plan for function and your guests will be well rested and happy during their stay. Just don’t leave them too much room in the closet or they may never want to leave!

I
s setting up a home theatre system just a matter of putting in a television, DVD player and setting up a few speakers? Well, technically yes but if you really want to experience all the viewing benefits home theatre offers, then you need to consider some viewing aesthetics.
What Has TV Viewing Distance Got To Do With Home Theater Set up?
TV VIEWING DISTANCE Have you ever considered the importance of TV viewing distance? Not many people do. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve walked into a home theatre room and cringed at the distance the TV is set up from the viewing platform. Sure, personal preferences come into a play here and I’ll admit, my idea of the right viewing distance will vary from others, but if you follow some well-worn guidelines, then you can enhance your viewing experience no end.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO CONSIDER FOR THE BEST VIEWING POSITION? When planning and setting up a home theatre room, consider the size of the room. This will be in proportion to the size of television you intend to install. Issues such as distance from the TV plus viewing angle will come into the play. Set the viewing platform too close to the TV, and you risk seeing details you don’t normally see such as image build up. If you are too far away, then other than losing the effect of the image output, it will be harder to become immersed in the program because at too far a distance, you immediately invite the risk of being distracted by influences other than the screen you are watching.
SUGGESTED VIEWING DISTANCE GUIDELINES What you want is a distance you are comfortable with and where you don’t lose an eye to detail. Recommended guidelines suggest that nearly two to five times the length of your television screen will get you somewhere “in the ballpark.” Again, this depends on your vision strength so if you have 20/20 vision, then the distance between you and your TV will probably be further than, say, a person with less vision strength.
16
ALL ABOUT HOME
In the end, TV viewing distance comes down to personal choice so you’ll probably want to spend a little time adjusting and testing distance levels. Sounds technical, doesn’t it? Also, consider if you are a frequent home theatre host: what about your guests? I guess not huh! My philosophy in this instance is “Hey, I’m providing the theatre centre for your enjoyment. You work out where you want to sit.” Next time you walk into a cinema, go in as early as possible and watch the seating habits of people as they walk in. It will give you some idea of how individual viewing habits differ. Some will sit to the left, others to the right while the centre aisle, usually at the highest level, is always a popular place to view from.
VIEWING ANGLES Taking TV viewing distance to the next level, the vertical viewing angle is another important part of the equation. The good news is that in a home theatre set up, this shouldn’t present too much of a problem because most rooms are not big enough to enable a discomfort level outside the rec-
e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com
ommended angle of 30-35 degrees. What is the vertical viewing angle? Basically, it’s the viewer’s eye height from their seated position to the top of the screen. When you are seated for a long time, this becomes important because the wrong angle can cause physical discomfort such as neck strain. So, if you’re thinking of mounting your TV high on the wall, think again and pay particular attention to the 30-35 degree vertical viewing angle. So what does all this mean? Probably, that if you are going to the trouble and expense of setting up a quality home theatre room, then wouldn’t it make sense to do it right from the ground up?

Then add a simple table top. Lights, shelving units and a glass cover on the tabletop will do the fancy work, making your vanity area a focal point in your room.
