CURTAINly Beautiful: Choosing Curtains for Your Bedroom
T
he interior of your bedroom is meant to create an atmosphere of relaxation and tranquillity. Choosing curtains is an important step to fulfilling this goal as they can contribute to a healthy sleep and joyful mood after waking up. Besides, they complement the entire look of your room. There are many different styles and shades of curtains, and each of them has its own advantages. The choice of the curtains should be approached with great responsibility and taking into account the important nuances. First, think about the style that works best for the interior of your room. The royal French-style curtains will become the main focus in the bedroom. Their distinguishing features are rich folds and beautiful drape. The curtains are usually available in organza, satin or silk and often decorated with fringe and bows. The curtains with lambrequin look even richer. Scallops along the entire length of the curtains are their main difference from the Austrian curtains. Roman curtains, on their turn, are ideal for small bedrooms as they take a minimum of space and make a concise statement. If you are a fan of the minimalist style, this model is your go-to. Generally, Roman curtains come in natural fabrics. English curtains would be a great addition to the bedroom decorated in classic style. They have a special mechanism to rise up, forming a rich fold in the centre of the canvas and bows along the edges. They look good independently or accompanied by classic draperies. Finally, Japanese curtains look like vertical canvases attached to the movable elements of the cornice. They are a great fit for a bedroom decorated in minimalist style, combining simplicity, elegance and functionality. The best thing about Japanese curtains is you don’t have to get out of your bed to control them: a special remote control will do the job.

feel to your space. On its turn, olive green works perfectly for the classic interior of the room. Dark shades are a perfect fit for retro style. They can also help create balance in the room that is too sunny. Blue symbolizes depth and tranquillity. Blue curtains are ideal for a bedroom as they help to find peace and set you up for a long sleep. They fit perfectly into the interior of any style. When it comes to decorating the windows in your bedroom, you can go with beige - a light but noble colour. It includes caramel, sand and champagne hues. The curtains in these tones can help you to fully relax, get rid of aggression and create an atmosphere of peace in the bedroom. Generally, there are no styles that wouldn’t welcome beige. Another great option is brown. The shades of brown don’t accentuate attention and go well with any colours. Brown colour creates a feeling of safety and warmth. Curtains in brown hues can enhance the look of the entire space. Further, consider focusing on the fabric. To reduce the noise level and direct sunlight, select thickness fabrics, such as brocade, velvet and corduroy. If you like to wake up with the morning sunlight, go with lighter fabrics, such as chiffon, silk and organza. While choosing the style, shade and fabric, try to choose the model that is easy to maintain and that will generally complement the interior of your room.
When it comes to choosing a colour palette, consider the shades that have a relaxing and pacifying effect. There’s no place for bright, screaming colours in the room that is reserved for rest. It might be difficult to fall asleep in the bedroom with orange or pink curtains. On the contrary, colours such as green, blue, beige and brown will set the relaxing mode. The colour of harmony and peace, green creates an atmosphere of tranquillity and helps to take your mind off the outside world. However, even dealing with this calm colour, it is important to choose the right shade. For example, pear colour is ideal for a child’s room. It brings a summery

WALL-HUNG TOILET – COMFORT AND CLEANLINESS IN A MODERN INTERIOR
P
AT WHAT HEIGHT SHOULD YOU MOUNT A WALLHUNG BOWL?
lumbing for the bathroom is becoming more constructive, interesting and practical. Manufacturers are competing for the most efficient methods of water delivery and waste management while ensuring comfort and accessibility. Today, the toilet is no longer merely a piece of equipment; rather, it is a central element to the interior’s design. But what do you do when a small bathroom does not accommodate the necessary plumbing?
Wall-hung bowls are best mounted between 40-50 cm from the ground. The key determining factor should be the comfort level of its intended user, so it’s important to find the height that is best for you!
HOW MUCH SPACE IS NEEDED FOR A WALL-HUNG TOILET?
THE ADVANTAGES OF WALL-HUNG TOILET BOWLS Wall-hung toilet bowls are one of the hottest trends in the plumbing world. Such toilet bowls efficiently conceal their unsightly fasteners and trap-ways, thus becoming new, sleek models. Cleaning will be a breeze as there are no exposed pipes that can trap or collect dust in areas that are hard to reach. Furthermore, with wall-hung toilet bowls, there will be much more floor space and your bathroom will appear open and spacious. There are no limits to your creativity with the wide range of products available – the latest and most innovative solutions for the most intimate of hygienic needs. The main advantages of wall-hung toilet bowls:
• Height adjustable • Perfect for small rooms • Frees up floorspace • Fully accessible • Easy to clean
There should be at least 60-80 cm of free space directly in front of the bowl, and at least 20-25 cm on either side for maneuverability when sitting or standing.
KEEPING IT CLEANER AND GREENER
INSTALLATION OF WALLHUNG TOILET BOWLS Wall-hung bowls need to be paired with in-wall carrier systems, which house the tank and flushing components. They also provide the necessary frame to “carry” the weight of its guest. It is important to note that carrier systems require interior walls for installation, particularly in regions that endure cooler climates. The in-wall carrier hides the tank and sewer pipe system from view, giving your bathroom a cleaner, fresher look. You can customize your look with the right “actuator plate” (the buttons to activate the dual-flush) in a number of different designs and finishes.
The problem with traditional toilet bowls is the difficulty in cleaning the hard-to-reach places - there are a number of nooks and crannies where harmful bacteria can breed. Due to excessive water consumption and a demand for space-saving solutions, manufacturers are attempting to find new and efficient solutions. More advantages of wall-hung toilet bowls: • Reduced water consumption • Aesthetically pleasing to the eye • Won’t harbour harmful bacteria The current selection in wall-hung toilets is vast and expanding. Visit us today to find the most suitable model for your bathroom!

5 Easy Ways to Cozy Up Your House
R
emember how just a couple of months ago you wanted your house to feel minimalist and breezy? Well, the chilly weather has suddenly changed this scenario: now you are craving for warmth and coziness in your home. Luckily, it is not so hard to make your space inviting and warm. Just follow these steps to cozy up your house!
UPGRADE YOUR FIREPLACE Keep your fireplace in working condition all year round, and you’ll stay warm even on a frosty night! Consider cleaning the glass with non-flammable substances such as vinegar and water. Sweep dust around the fireplace regularly so that dirt and debris do not fall into it. And also clean the chimney pipe so that soot does not get inside the house.
UPDATE YOUR BEDDING Exchange your crisp cotton sheets for ones that will hold the warmth better, such as flannel or jersey. For the coldest nights, throw blankets over the foot of your bed. Consider keeping a pair of slippers by your bed, so you feel comfortable at the moment you wake up.
GET NEW RUGS Thicker rugs will help insulate and prevent unnecessary energy loss. Layer them in strategic areas, such as next to your bed, under your coffee table or in your reading corner.
SOFTEN YOUR LIGHTING Warm-toned LED lights will create a warm candle-like glow that will keep you cozy, yet awake.
WARM UP YOUR WINDOWS Whether you generally have sheer linen curtains, try exchanging them for any heavy curtains, like velvet drapers. They will make the room feel warm and cozy and block cold air coming from old windows.

Beautifully-Extended: EVALUATING YOUR BASEMENT’S LOOK
T
he era of unused, uninviting and cluttered basements is over. A modern and sophisticated basement becomes an extension of your house. Whether your vision is a welcoming area for your friends or a functional family space, there is plenty of modern basement ideas to borrow from. Although a basement redesign can be time-consuming and expensive, it extends your living space and increases the value of your house. Moreover, you get a chance to explore designs that you can apply to the rest of your living space.
So, how do you make your basement better? Sure, one of the best ways to start is to figure out what your house is missing. If you have kids, they will likely need extra room for their toys. If you are a freelancer, you may need a home office where you can get your work done. If you like to host parties, your basement can be transformed into a dedicated guest room.
Moving on, the ideal modern basement should look stylish and feel comfortable. While remodelling your space, it is highly
important to find a balance of aesthetics and functionality. For example, some attractive options of a drop ceiling will allow you easy access to electrical lines through the removable tiles. In addition, the drop ceiling makes it easy to install recessed lighting that save valuable overhead space. As you know, basements have a reputation for being cold. Therefore, heated floors aren’t must-haves, but they are definitely ‘nice to have’. They can make your basement feel cozier and seem much more appealing. Furthermore, think about the layout of your basement. Whether you have a kitchen, place it as close to the entrance as you can. And keep in mind that open-concept is always the most successful in a basement. Ultimately, if you are unsure how to transform your basement into a sophisticated and livable space, hire a reliable contractor to help you out. It is not necessary to choose your contractor’s recommendation.

Debbie Travis talks about designer challenges, solutions and inspirations for the bath

esigners’ work is shown off in homes, magazines and on TV shows, but audiences are often left wondering what the designer’s own home looks like and what challenges they may have faced on the road to beautiful. Here’s a sneak peek into the small but sweet, spainspired bathroom of British-Canadian interior decorator, television host and entrepreneur Debbie Travis. Located in historic Wandsworth, London, Travis’ 19th-Century townhouse was the site of a recent renovation, with the bathroom quickly becoming a focus. Not surprisingly, a common decorating dilemma that is often the subject of Travis’ professional renovations and redecorations found its way into her own bathroom as well: limited space. “This house has a small bathroom, so it was challenging to create a design that offered a huge impact within a small space,” Travis said of the bathroom design project. “It’s been a luxury being able to start from scratch in this bathroom.” The designer doesn’t shy away from an opportunity to start a project with a blank slate. And here, Travis had her work cut out for her. Here’s how this self-taught decorating guru overcame the obstacles. Travis’ first task was choosing a focal point. In the bathroom, a beautiful bathtub was a natural choice. Travis chose a stunning freestanding tub to take centre stage, leaving an open wall that tricks the eye into seeing more space. Travis chose the Mozzano 2 bathtub by British bathroom brand Victoria + Albert. “A freestanding bathtub creates a real design statement,” says Travis. “They are really dramatic. But you want to add a dramatic background so the tub stands out.” She complemented the look with Tubo 21 wall-mounted tub mixer with handheld shower, in Polished Chrome finish. Enter a young Sophia Loren. As a backdrop to the dramatic tub, a large-scale black-andwhite portrait of Loren graces the back wall, infusing character and style into the space. This is a totally customizable, cost-effective and low-commitment option to create a big visual impact. As a more subtle but equally important background element, Travis’ tile selections don’t go unnoticed. Surfaces such as rough natural stone or marble are a great base, and they pair well with wood and glass

Most importantly, it’s a gorgeous place to start and end the day, Travis says. “A successful bathroom makeover, when it comes

Black, Matte White, Stone Gray, Light Gray and Anthracite. Like the bathtub, your vanity should be a showpiece. This is particularly true for small bathrooms and powder rooms, where there is little room to make a big splash. Look for vanities boasting distinctive features, be it a unique washbasin, splashy faucet or striking base, to give your bathroom a fashionable yet functional edge. Open shelving units have been trending big time. An example of these is Victoria + Albert’s latest Metallo quartz washstand distinguished by its unique metal legs featuring right-angle “tee joints”, inspired by retro bathroom plumbing. The Metallo 61 Quartz is the most compact model offered. It is only 24 inches wide, so it works ideally for smaller bathrooms and powder rooms. Of course, functionality also plays an important role, when it comes to selecting the right bathroom vanity. Is this an ensuite for

Tasty Predictions: KITCHEN TRENDS IN 2019
K
itchens are probably the most popular rooms to renovate. Guess why? Of course, the variety of popular and functional countertops, cabinets and lighting designs can not only update the kitchen but they can also make the entire house feel modern and fresh. Here are some kitchen design ideas that are trending right now and can make you happy.
SPLASH OF COLOUR Even though whites and greys are still more typical in most remodels, many homeowners enjoy expressing their personality by painting their cabinets in vibrant colours. Bright cabinetry in just the island or base cabinets will help create dimension and make the space more interesting visually.
MARBLE LOOK If you wish to make a more dramatic statement with your kitchen, go with marbled quartz. White marbleized quartz countertops will definitely add an enigmatic touch to the space and look striking against a wood island or countertop extention.
OPEN-MINDED Open shelving means more styling and maintenance to keep your space from appearing too busy. However, If you know how to keep things balanced and tidy, open

hen you need to make it through the winter, you’ll need a home that is comfortable and without hazard.
Even with frigid temperatures and snow on the ground, you’ll be able to hunker down in your home office comfortably as long as you get repairs. Freezing pipes are one of the most common forms of damage that people endure during the winter. To learn more about pipe freeze protection and other winter strategies, read on.
When you deal with winter, a pipe burst is one of the worst things that can take place. If your pipe freezes due to winter weather, your home is far more susceptible to a pipe burst. When this happens, you may endure water damage in your home that can cause mold to breed. Water damage restoration is expensive and time-consuming, so it’s best to play defense by preventing the pipe freeze in the first place. Paying for pipe freeze protection can be the best step to help avoid this.

hire a plumber that can knock out this repair for you.
Aside from water damage, there’s other long-term damage your pipes can endure if they freeze.
KEEP YOUR HOT WATER HEATER WORKING
The more your pipes begin to freeze, the weaker they will become over time. They’ll get cracked and worn, and can create longterm issues for your plumbing service. You may also deal with rust that can damage your drinking water. By looking into pipeline corrosion protection, you will have a better shot of getting through the winter with your water quality intact.

YOUR PIPES CAN TAKE LONGTERM DAMAGE IN THE WINTER
One of the best ways to protect your plumbing is to insulate the pipes. This is a great move for eco-friendliness that any homeowner will want to take advantage of. It involves having plumbers slip tight-fitting insulation sleeves over your pipes so that the water comes out between 2 degrees and 4 degrees warmer. This service alone can save you up to 4% per year in energy costs. Since your water is coming out warmer each and every time you use it, the pipe is far less susceptible to freezing. You can

Another great way to avoid frozen pipes is to reach out to a contractor that repairs and maintains hot water heaters. Your hot water heater requires some attention, but when you maintain it, your pipes will be less likely to freeze. Whether you want to tune up your current system or install a brand new, green-friendly hot water heater, your home will be better off for it.
REMODEL AND PROTECT YOUR HOME Now that you can see exactly why winter weather is potentially damaging to your plumbing, it’s important to put in the time and effort. COLD TACKLING: RENOS YOU CAN DO THIS WINTER
hen it comes to updating your house, winter is not always the best season to plan any big renovation projects. However, there are some renovations that can take place in the winter. Moreover, doing cer-
tain reno project in the coldest season may even save you money.
BASEMENT RENOVATIONS In fact, a basement renovation is one of the most convenient renovations to do in
the winter. As a rule, contractors have more time in the wintertime to work on projects than in the summer. In addition, as you finish the basement now, you will free up your warmer months to carry out other house projects that would be much more challenging in the winter, like exterior renovations, for example. Ultimately, you don’t want to dig a foundation, but updating the decor or finishing your basement would be a great use of the wintertime.
FIREPLACE UPGRADES Whether you don’t rely on your fireplace for impeccability, the first weeks of winter are the best time to upgrade your source of coziness and warmth. In this way, you have plenty of time to enjoy your updated fireplace! If you don’t feel like doing major upgrades now, try some small aesthetic touches, such as installing a fresh mantle or refreshing the surround of your fireplace for a modern, fresh look.
BATHROOM REMODELLING Even a freezing winter’s evening feels good with a hot bubbly bath, right? Why not create your personal mini oasis in the room that is reserved for relaxation? Winter is the great time to do it - not summer when you have the beach that you might appreciate more. So if you’ve been dreaming of a modern vanity countertop or brand new jacuzzi, get them now! And if you still don’t have mould resistant drywall, this would be a perfect thing to invest in.
MINOR UPGRADES Not sure about major renovations? Consider doing some small upgrades that will make your house feel welcoming and cozy. For example, you can give your rooms a fresh coat of paint or wallpaper, upgrade the lighting or furnace. Ultimately, you want to keep your home warm and comfortable all year round!
