5 BATHROOM ESSENTIALS FOR A SPA-LIKE EXPERIENCE
Y
ou might have already renovated your bathroom for the upcoming year. However, how do you make the most of its design? These 5 essentials will help you create a spa-like experience in your bathroom.
MIRROR First of all, the wall in your bathroom is asking for a mirror. It shouldn’t be too big or too small - just that it would be possible for you to examine yourself up to the waist. Choose a mirror with a shelf, and you won’t have to drill extra holes in the wall. The shelf will store a cup with toothbrushes and other essentials. A mirror with built-in LED lighting is a great secondary light source that provides illumination for a range of tasks. For extra flexibility, consider getting a mirror with a dimmable light option.
RAINFALL SHOWERHEAD A modern alternative to a regular shower, a rainfall showerhead will let you enjoy water in a spa-like way. It offers a gentler distribution of water for a luxurious experience.
HEATED TOWEL RACKS Perhaps it’s time to leave door hooks in 2018 and get a refreshing and sturdy towel racks option. A heated towel rack is a perfect way to keep your towels warm and dry. So you feel wonderful every time you step out of the shower and wrap yourself in a warm towel.
DOOR HOOKS Door hooks are an excellent way to keep your robe and extra towels off the floor. In addition, they help you keep your wall space free.
BATH MAT Elongate your spa experience by stepping on a plush mat when you exit the shower. Consider choosing one that is soft and durable at the same time.

THE BEST SHOWER ENCLOSURES FOR A SMALL BATHROOM: DESIGNS, IDEAS AND INSTALLATION
N
owadays, shower enclosures come in different styles and shapes that will complement any interior. And in small bathrooms, this solution is also the best way to optimise the available space. They come in different shapes, can be installed at various spots in the room and equipped with dozens of modern features. Let’s take a look at all this in detail.
TYPES OF SHOWER ENCLOSURES The idea of a small shower enclosure works best within a compact solution. It’s crucial to decide how to install it so that there is room for the plumbing. It is important to choose not only the dimensions of plumbing but also its design and type of installation to achieve maximum ergonomics.
THE DESIGN Admittedly, showers for small bathrooms are challenging to choose, as you are limited not only to the sizes but also to the
shape. The appropriate option will depend on the available space. For example, if the room is very small, a rectangular or round design is unlikely to fit. You need to choose a shape not only to create a specific interior but, first and foremost, to save space.
BEST OPTIONS FOR A SMALL BATH: Rectangular. In small bathrooms, this form is not so popular. However, it works, if, for example, the entrance to the bathroom is built-in in one of the long walls, and the enclosure is installed near the opposite wall. Quarter round. Such enclosure is the easiest to install in the corner of the room. Consider it if you have a very small room when other forms simply won’t fit. Note that the doors do not have to be without corners: choose the shapes that you like. Square. They can also be installed in the corner and near the wall. This form is considered something average between the two previous versions and is installed in the bathrooms that are slightly smaller than the average. This version is great for concise interior styles, where clear lines are prevalent. Plumbing should be not only compact but they should also fit into the flow of the interior. Even some small details, such as the
colour of the pallet, can help you harmoniously introduce plumbing into the interior. Glass block. Models of transparent glass do not “eat up” the space visually. That is why they are often installed precisely in small bathrooms. Due to transparency, the doors look airy, and they are ergonomic. Even massive rectangular cabins with transparent doors will not visually “take” a lot of space. When mounting structures with such doors, pay particular attention to the interior finishing, which is always visible. Matte. Not a fan of transparent doors? Consider choosing matte doors in light hues. Visually, they take up more space than transparent models, but they are also popular in small bathrooms. In this case, you might want to avoid rectangular and square designs and go with a quarter round enclosure. In addition, matte glass can also be decorated with patterns that will surely complement the interior. Remember that the space of your shower enclosure and around it needs proper finishing since moisture and steam constantly affect it. This rule does not apply to the shower enclosures with a drip rail and shower door sweep.

HOW TO UPDATE THE LOOK OF YOUR KITCHEN by Thomas Pretty
to make the most of design magazines to find inspiration.
hen selling a house, it is often the kitchen that is the predominant selling point with buyers. A kitchen that has a great layout, stylish cupboards and worktops will add up to creating a space that gives an element of elegance and improves the value of the property. Whenever selling a property, it is normally advisable to carry out some work on the kitchen. It may seem expensive at the outset, but if you are wily about which elements to update, you can create a contemporary and stylish kitchen that will add a great deal of value.
If your worktops and cabinets are made from solid wood, changing their appearance can be extremely simple and cheap. Wood is a highly versatile material in terms of design. Natural stains are extremely popular in kitchen design at the moment and whether changing your worktops or cupboards, you can make the most of the wood’s natural grain for a contemporary feel.
W
If you are going to update your kitchen affordably, it is important to focus upon the small touches that can completely change the look; these include the cupboards, the cupboard handles and the worktops. If you are clever about how to update these elements, you can create a completely new looking kitchen at a fraction of the price. When you are doing this, it is advisable

When looking at the handles for your cupboards, it is important to experiment with a wide variety of options. When selecting handles, it is important to choose a style that matches your kitchen. While chrome may be extremely popular, if you have a wood kitchen, it is unlikely that the handles will fit into that look. Ultimately, you want your kitchen to be hormonious in terms of styling. This sounds easy but it is surprising how mismatched kitchens can look when people try to update them. The area around the sink can often become dirty and even covered with mildew because of the excessive amounts of mois-

ture. A cheaper alternative to retiling the whole splash-back area is to install a board of wood. If you are doing this, however, make sure to use a good waterproof paint that will ensure the wood doesn’t rot. The same can be said for the worktops around the sink; a waterproof stain used on a hardwood will ensure that they are sturdy and resilient enough to cope with daily use. While replacing all of the worktops in your kitchen might be an expensive option, the look it creates will be ultimately worthwhile. With choices of wood, stone, granite or metal, the options are endless if you want to replace worktops. Obviously, these vary in price, but quality materials can make or break a kitchen. Hopefully, this article will help to improve the look of a kitchen. This can add value to your home whether you are looking to sell it or not. By using quality materials and a stylistic eye it is possible to create a contemporary and elegant kitchen that is practical and aesthetically pleasing. Source: www.streetdirectory.com

Time and Patience Needed When Buying A New Home
by Leeanne Kunnert
T
he entire process of buying a home takes time and patience. Home buyers are excited and often times a bit overenthusiastic to get into the home of their dreams. This fanatical excitement can often leave home buyers to sabotage their real estate agents efforts at getting their client a home of their dreams. When working with a realtor here are some things to be aware of to ensure a smooth home buying process. Creating a relationship of mutual understanding between realtor and client is essential for buyers to get the home of their dreams.
ARE YOU GUILTY OF SABOTAGING YOUR NEW HOME DREAMS? One mistake many buyers make is that they care too much about the homes aesthetics. Professional real estate agents are happy to show you just as many houses as desire until you find the one that is perfect for you. The problem is that many buyers can only see the beauty as it is and forget that the splendor of any home is more than meets the eye. Initially, it may be tempting to get caught up in how the house currently looks
10
ALL ABOUT HOME
however a house that is out of date, dirty or in need of some small handyman repairs buyers are often tempted to run and continue their search elsewhere.
BUYERS SHOULD CONSIDER THIS INSTEAD: The cost of improvements that need to be done to the home can be negotiated into the closing deal. It can even be set up that the minor fixes that you would like to see done can be included in the details of the contract. Another common mistake is that buyers often show their hand and give away any ability to negotiate. Your comfort with your real estate agent is crucial however don’t let it get in the way of making the best deal possible with the seller. It has happened before; many buyers start talking a bit too much when looking at homes and sellers overhear their criticisms. When this occurs it could hurt the entire negotiation process. When you find the home you love don’t make the mistake of waiting too long to put an offer on the table. In a competitive real estate market, there isn’t a lot of time to wait to make an offer. Nothing drives a real estate agent nuttier than knowing they have found their buyer the perfect home

and yet they aren’t ready to commit. If you find a home you are in love with put an offer in, get the negotiation process started and begin planning for your future. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that buying a home is all about money. Yes a large offer looks appealing but a lower offer with few contingencies and the perfect timing can appear even more tempting. It is important to listen to your real estate agent throughout the entire process. When you discuss with them what you want and need, they are listening to you. They are the professionals and this is what you are paying them for. Be sure to put your faith in them, take to heart their advice and allow them to guide you down the path to home ownership. FROM CHAOS TO CALM By Carly Heung

s a decorator of small spaces, I know that finding storage for your much-needed kitchen supplies is a challenge - that is - if you plan to actually cook and prepare meals in this space. Over the course of my small space endeavours, I’ve learnt a few tips for designing a modern yet functional small kitchen:
INTEGRATE APPLIANCES Custom cabinetry systems with minimalist inspired handles help to integrate kitchen appliances into the natural flow of your kitchen. Integrating kitchen appliances into the design of your kitchen creates a more seamless surface and smooth transitions between storage and counter space, making the room appear larger.

ZONING Divide your kitchen into five zones and group all your items into the zone they belong to so that you can save time finding items you need when you’re cooking. The five zones are: (1) cooking, such as spices, oils, cooking utensils, pots, pans and other tools; (2) preparation, including mixing bowls, knives, cutting boards, gadgets, and other appliances (3) cleaning, such as sponges, trash bags, detergents; (4) storage, including food containers, dishes, silverware, glasses; and (5) food, including pantry items.
STORE VERTICALLY Use all the vertical space you can find for storage through floating shelves or over-
the-counter cabinets. Some smart storage solutions can double or triple your useable space. For example, try adding shelf inserts or wire racks to store multiple levels of spices, cups, plates, pots and pans.
FLOAT IT Take advantage of all the storage space you can make by installing floating cabinets. Modern cabinet doors come with many state-of-the-art opening mechanisms and hinges, creating endless possibilities of innovation when it comes to creative ways of saving space. When it comes to selecting internal systems, companies such as GRASS will add some style and functionality to your kitchen. One of my favourite GRASS designs KINVARO F-20 demonstrates a good example of such a mechanism, creat-
ing smart, easy to open, smooth and safe cabinet that is perfect to store over the counters.
HOOK IT To save drawer space, you can use hooks to hang your oven mitts, dishwashing gloves, and other items inside your cabinet doors under the sink.
MAKE A PANTRY If you don’t have a pantry, buy a standing cabinet or designate a few cabinets/drawers for pantry items. Be sure to store these items in bins or clear containers so you can quickly see what you have. When things in the kitchen are organized, cooking becomes more fun! As the hub of your home, your kitchen space should work for you, instead of making you work for it.

NO WALLFLOWERS HERE: How to Make a Statement With Your Walls
A
by Sara Bederman
highly customizable but largely overlooked area of the home is probably right in front of your eyes - the walls. Each room in your home has at least a couple, but aside from paint colour, why are these expansive, blank canvases left almost empty? Put your walls in the spotlight with the three trendy wall treatments!
HEXED! Geometrics have been trending for the last five years or so, but they have evolved from the wallpapers of the past, in terms of today’s trending shapes and materials. Hexagon tiles are the latest iteration of geometric wall coverings, a trend that was found its way to flooring and backsplashes. This sixsided form is often understated. It is complex and unexpected at the same time. The shape is a great way to modernize a classic colour palette and material, such as ceramic or marble. Trend To Watch: Consider layering multiple materials within one space. Different mediums and aesthetics, such as rustic hardwood alongside meticulously-cut marble tile, will add some interest to the space and help highlight your home’s best features.
THREE DIMENSIONAL Three-dimensional wall cladding is relatively new to the interior design scene, but it has already begun its ascent into the consumer market for both residential and commercial spaces. If you’re looking to update and upgrade your space, this is definitely an option to consider. A common misconception is that 3D tile is too “futuristic,” even bordering on Jetsons. On the contrary, a product like White Diamond 3D Wall Design by CIOT, pictured in

ORGANIC EDGES Imperfectly perfect - this is the aesthetic goal of this particular wall trend, which exploits the natural attributes of organic materials and their uneven patterns, colours and edges. This tile style is elegant enough to take on a formal space (imagine a living room feature wall) but fairly practical to survive the wear and tear of a kitchen or bathroom. Even though this wall treatment is commonly seen on kitchen backsplashes, it found its application in bathrooms, living areas and entryways with gusto. Whether you’re renovating your whole home from top to bottom or redecorating just one or two of the rooms, remember that regardless of your project’s scale or scope, you shouldn’t waste a single inch of space. After all, it’s a limited resource, so make the most of every corner. Thoughtful finishes and a few unexpected choices can turn otherwise overlooked, underused areas of the home into a new-found focus.
the matte white finish, is subtle and elegant. This Italian-made product is available in a range of patterns, and it features a raised geometric design on each large-
scale, 16-by-32-inch piece. Reflecting on how light and shadows play on each panel, this wall treatment lends an everchanging look to your home.

HOW TO RENOVATE a Condo in Toronto? an issue for people living in condos. If you are tired of limited space and feel that the condo is smaller, there are ways to make it appear larger than it actually is.
1. The Kitchen
By Christine Delongte
R
enovating a condominium in Toronto is very different from making changes to a standalone property. A condo renovation contractor has to work in a smaller space and abide by the rules of the HOA. However, there are a few tips and tricks that can make a small condo space appear bigger, better and more comfortable. Know how to give a new look to your living space and learn the expenditure associated with it. Half a century ago, condominiums were still a novel concept in Toronto. However today, they are a common sight on the city’s skyline. For the younger generation living in 416, condos have become a convenient and affordable dwelling option that allows them to walk down to their nearby jobs. Every condo owner knows the value of condominiums in a populated city such as Toronto. And, just like a good renovation job improves the value of a single-story home or a stand-alone property, it can definitely help you in enhancing the value and the look of your condominium apartment.
RENOVATING A SMALL CONDO IN TORONTO: TIPS TO MAKE IT BIGGER AND BETTER Gone are the days when condos had the reputation of being dull and unappealing. Today, luxury high-rise buildings have made things simpler. But space can still be
16
ALL ABOUT HOME
The small size of the kitchen is a complaint of many condo owners. If you want to tackle the space issue, make sure that the kitchen layout is efficient in accommodating as many kitchen appliances as possible. If you require a large kitchen space, an open kitchen can become an effective option for you. It is best to avoid making major plumbing renovations in the kitchen so as to follow the rules set by the HOA. A kitchen condo renovations project can cost anywhere in the range of $5000-$20,000. It all depends on your requirements. So, if you have specific needs such as you want a big kitchen space, an eating counter or a separate baking station, discuss them with the condo renovation contractor to give him a clear idea of the situation.
2. The Bathroom The average cost of a complete bathroom condo renovation in Toronto is $10,000. It includes the installation of drywall, tiles, bathroom fixtures, as well as the plumbing cost. As you are spending a large amount of money on renovating a tiny space, it is essential that you obtain your money’s worth. As a condo owner, you cannot make structural changes to the bathing area. But, ensure that the condo renovation contractor and the interior designer undertake proper space planning to make the area more appealing and comfortable. Building ceilingto-floor bath vanity cabinets is an ideal way of adding storage space. Instead of dividing the bathroom into separate sections with doors, make use of see-through alternatives such as frosted glass to open up space. Incorporate natural lighting into the setting to create an illusion of a bigger bathroom.
3. The Bedroom Renovating a small-sized condo bedroom can be done in $4000-$15000 (depending
e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com
on multiple factors such as the cost of materials, labour, furnishing, etc.) Other than investing in a quality bed, lighting plays a major role in sprucing up the bedroom. You can incorporate statement lighting with the help of a chandelier or a crystal ceiling fan. Another way to add character to the room is using different colours on the walls. If you are wary of using too many colours, consider creating an accent wall to give a bold yet balanced look to the bedroom. Also, add multiple storage options in the bedroom such as platform beds with drawers underneath it, nightstands with multiple drawers, storage cubes, etc. to keep your room organized.
4. The Living Room When a living room is small, it is best to avoid the colour-blocking technique and sectioning the area into different parts. If you want the living area to look bigger and more inviting, stick to one cohesive design. You must follow the same design and colour palette throughout the condo space so as to create harmony. You can opt for painting the condo with neutral shades and still add a pop of colour with furnishings. Do not ignore the entrance of your home. Personalizing the space and adding entryway storage benches and trunks will not only add character to the room but also allow you to enjoy smart storage space. So, whenever you sit to discuss the cost of living room renovations, calculate the expenditure of making changes to the entryway as well. The approximate cost of a budget living room renovation is $5000 including the price of repairing flooring, painting the walls, installing light fixtures, etc. You may have to pay extra for custom ceilings.
CONDO RENOVATIONS: CLEAR GOALS ENSURE BEST RESULTS Just like everything else in life, having clear goals will make the condo renovation project a success. Before hiring a condo renovation contractor, make sure that you know your purpose behind renovating your living space. If you are going to sell the property in a couple of years, do not invest in personalizing the condo. It is best to undertake renovations that prospective buyers will consider essential. Once you know your goal, make a list of things that you want to change. Seek estimates from different condo renovation contractors to enjoy the best deal. Source: www.articlesfactory.com

LITTLE CASTLES: Creating a Child’s Perfect Room
E
very child deserves to have a safe, comfortable and stylish space of their own. Designing that space will include various aspects such as colour palette, styles, lighting, etc. Explore your imagination and get inspired by our ideas to create a room your children will love. While designing your child’s room, pay particular attention to the furniture. For example, boys will likely prefer modern furniture with whimsical bed shapes, stylish tables and frameless chairs. If you can allow a bit of luxury, please a little man with a bed in a ship or car shape. A beautifully designed room for a little princess can include wallpaper, curtains and furniture in calm, subtle colours. Go with the style of Provence, where all the furniture and furnishings look cute, creating a comfortable feeling for a little girl. Most experts suggest that, in addition to the furniture, there should be a space

for active games in a child’s room, so that they can run and jump freely, releasing the energy accumulated for a long day. But how do you organize a sleeping place, a space for studying and hobbies and a sports zone altogether? A legendary twin loft bed is a perfect solution. This piece of furniture will help you to save space and make your designing process more interesting. Moreover, most parents know their kids adore sleeping in high loft beds. The little inventors imagine they are in a tree house, flying ship or another fantastic object. Therefore, a high bed in the interior of the room for children is always educating and fascinating. It will never be left without attention. This bed is also good because there is a lot of free space under it, and you can store different things there. This way you have more room for fun. For example, you can organize a relaxing area by placing a small sofa or

build a play area by hanging the curtains. The kids will love it. As for the walls, they shouldn’t be in too bright. Consider choosing light and neutral tones. A bright accent can be highlighted only on one of the walls in the room. Try artistic wall decals, for example. Another important step in creating a perfect child’s room os lighting. There’s should be enough of natural light to illuminate the studying area. Additionally, many children love various garlands with coloured light bulbs. Hang those over the sleeping area to create an atmosphere of celebration and magic. When it comes to decorating, consider all sorts of drawings and stickers, items carved from wood and cardboard. Those elements will help develop motor and thinking skills, while the child will observe and touch them.

THE FRESH DEBATE:
A Bath Or A Shower?

tageous. It also helps you consume less water (when water consumption is from 8 to 15 litres per minute, nearly 100 litres of water are required for taking a shower. With a bath it’s twice more!) Besides, it is more hygienic. For instance, when you wear a lot of makeup, a shower helps you rinse all the particles down the drain, rather than bathing in them.
In addition, the size of your bathroom comes into play. Some lucky owners can afford to have both. But what if you are not one of them? Let’s choose!
However, the shower has significant drawbacks. For example, it is inconvenient for bathing children, and it is difficult to take care of. Especially, if you live in the area where water has a lot of impurities, they can settle on the glass of the shower cabin.
In terms of comfort and space saving, a shower is undoubtedly the most advan-

With this in mind, the bath is much easier to maintain. In addition, bathing has a relaxing and soothing effect, which is often lacking for shower owners. You can also add products into the bathwater, which wouldn’t work in showers. While epsom salt helps to relieve aches, honey can treat irritated, dry skin. Of course, there are contraindications: if you have hypotension, hypertension or varicose veins, you should avoid long soaks in hot water. Ultimately, the choice is yours and your habits!

Things to Look for in a Home Security Camera System models you are considering and look for any known security problems. You can also consider getting a system that is not connected to the internet. You should carefully balance security with ease of use. Once you have your camera, there are additional steps you can take to ensure they stay locked against potential hackers.
IMAGE AND VIDEO CONSIDERATIONS There are a lot of choices when it comes to the type of video a home security system can record. The “right” type depends a lot on your personal needs and price range. One of the biggest considerations is image quality. Higher definition images are more effective when it comes to identifying a potential intruder.

s your home well protected? Home security systems are so effective at deterring crime that they can even net you a discount on your insurance.
Check reviews and pay attention to any comments about the ease of install. If you choose a complicated, difficult system to install on your own, you may end up making mistakes. This will mean that your system isn’t as effective as it could be.

But not all camera systems are created equal. The right home security camera system can help keep you safe, while the wrong one can leave you vulnerable. At the same time, you want to avoid overspending. So how do know which one is right for your home? We’ll show you the three most important things to look for when you are buying a security camera system.
Some cameras only record video when they detect movement. This can save on bandwidth and storage. This can still be an effective security method, but it means you won’t get a live stream you can peek in on. When you choose a security camera system, you need to balance your needs for price, image quality, and bandwidth and storage use.

Installing a security system can be a great way to make your home safer. But it is important to choose the right one for your needs.
Are you thinking of hiring a company to install your home security system, or are you planning on managing it yourself?
Many DIY home security cameras are wireless. They make use of your WIFI network and often communicate with an app on your phone.
While shopping around, keep in mind the ease of use, security, and video type. This way, you’ll end up with a system that gives you the protection you need.

Also, consider the ways you can monitor your cameras. Many camera systems can be managed via an app. In addition to making your system easy to manage, you can check in on your home no matter where you are.
HD has its downsides though. It hogs your internet bandwidth, takes up more storage space, and costs more. Cheaper HD systems often experience video lag.
