AWESOME PARKS
Madills Farm is an instant childpleaser with basket swings, climbing net and in-ground trampolines. The Snakes and Ladders Park in Pakuranga is worth the 15-minute drive south from central Auckland for its life-size snakes and ladders’ board game complete with tunnels to slide down and steps to climb up, while older kids might like the enormous frisbee golf course at Henderson Park. Come nightfall, drive 30 minutes from central Auckland to Manurewa to find glowworms at Totara Park. In summer, Auckland Council hosts Out & About Glowworm Tours.
LOCAL LIFE
PAM ROBINSON
Pam is an Auckland Council Customer Services Representative who works at the Arataki Visitor Centre, on Scenic Drive in the Waitākere Ranges. How long have you worked at Arataki Visitor Centre? I’ve worked here for over 24 years. What are your favourites out there? Huia is my favourite area and the Karamatura and Donald McLean tracks are a good challenge. The lookouts on Mt Donald McLean gives fantastic views in all directions. What makes it special? Wonderful views over the forest
and out over the ocean. What tips would you give families visiting the area? Come and talk to the staff at the Arataki Visitor Centre. There are some good walks like Kitekite Falls and the Arataki Nature Trail that they will enjoy. What should visitors know? It’s important that we continue protecting our kauri by having clean footwear before we go, staying on open tracks, and using hygiene cleaning stations.
