August 15, 2018 Tom Mayo Director of Facilities Planning FGCU Facilities Planning Office 0501 FGCU Blvd. South Fort Myers, FL 33956-6565 RE:
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL SERVICES CONTRACT : MINOR PROJECTS UP TO $2 MILLION
Dear Mr. Mayo and Members of the Selection Committee: Harvard Jolly Architecture is pleased to present our firm’s qualifications for the Continuing Professional Services Contract at the Florida Gulf Coast University. Through our service to 24 university/college campuses in Florida under the continuing services contracts, we understand the importance and complexity of designing and completing minor projects for higher education clients. The following response demonstrates our firm’s ability to perform work under the Continuing Professional Services Contract. Harvard Jolly is the largest architectural firm on the west coast of Florida with over 2 million square feet of higher education projects designed with highly experienced staff ready to serve FGCU continuing services contract. At Harvard Jolly Architecture, we believe that successful continuing service projects result from the following: COLLABORATIVE SCOPE VERIFICATION PROCESS | The first step towards a successful project is complete and in-depth understanding of the project scope and goals. These projects typically include multiple user groups and are, more often than not, surrounded by active learning environments. It is important for our entire team to fully understand the schedule, budget and educational goals for the project before we proceed forward. RECENT SIMILAR PROJECT EXPERIENCE | The proposed team has completed more than 250 projects under various continuing service contracts and our direct experience on similar projects such as office, laboratory and classroom renovations would be of a direct benefit to FGCU. Also, our team has an extensive experience in building additions, code compliance/life safety assessments, interior design, signage and complete building renovations. The Harvard Jolly team has been very successful in incorporating “collaborative student spaces” in our projects by creative planning and excellent design execution. We believe that our integration and consideration of collaborative student spaces is an added value to every project without impact on budget and project schedule. SERVICE ORIENTED STAFF | It is Harvard Jolly’s culture to encourage and foster service oriented mentality for all of our staff members. We truly believe that service is our greatest asset. We pride ourselves in providing excellent client services and delivering award winning, on time and on budget projects for our clients. Our recent FGCU experience through designing numerous parking structures and LEED Gold certified Marieb Hall, familiarized our staff with FGCU’s standards and guidelines and equally important, it allowed us to understand your expectations. Our Fort Myers office is located less than 20 minutes away from FGCU and our staff is ready to service the continuing service contract. Thank you for your consideration of our firm and we look forward to continuing our successful relationship with Florida Gulf Coast University. Sincerely,
Ward J. Friszolowski, AIA President, COO

In 2011, Harvard Jolly was awarded a continuing services contract with Edison State College. Under this contract, we performed a multiple option feasibility study for an addition to Taeni Hall on Edison State College’s Lee Campus. This program is based on a 60’ x 120’ footprint attached to the southeast corner of Taeni Hall (Building ‘S’). The addition may be 2 or 3 stories. The spaces are primarily administrative to support the growing needs of Student Services. The proportion of the footprint would suggest a perimeter office arrangement with most offices receiving an exterior window, surrounding core spaces of cubicles, interior offices, conference rooms, reception areas, and other support areas such as storage, toilets and stairs. Determining the options for the addition required us to investigate and evaluate the existing building’s functions, circulation, and systems. These included drainage and circulation around the existing and new footprint. Redistribution of spaces within the existing building were reviewed with an emphasis on minimizing physical alterations while maintaining egress and other life safety requirements during all phases of construction and beyond.

Opened for classes in the fall of 2011, Classroom Building U is a new 2-story, 45,300 square foot building located on Edison State College’s Lee Campus in Fort Myers. Building U features 17 classrooms that can accommodate 700 students, with 3 pairs of classrooms divided by folding partitions, which allows for the flexibility to teach 80 to 100 students at one time. Contemporary instructional technology was integrated throughout to allow for video conferencing and web-based courses. The central anchoring element of the building is a 4,000 square foot multi-purpose room large enough for 300 people. Additionally, Building U houses a Dean’s Suite with educational offices, faculty offices and workspace, and a curriculum library. The building was sited within the campus to receive most people entering from the northeast so the design addresses that axial connection with a dramatic curved glass entry façade. Once inside, occupants are greeted to a 2-story tall lobby, outfitted with flat screen monitors and two sweeping grand stairs with glass railings that provide access and visibility to the upper level. Completed in 14 months, the project’s design and construction were fast-tracked to ensure completion before the start of the fall semester. Building “U” achieved LEED Silver Certification.
