Experience the warmth and charm of an old-time holiday at Henry B. Plant Museum’s 30th annual Victorian Christmas Stroll from December 1st to 23rd, 2011, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm daily. Beneath towering silver minarets, an extravagantly adorned former Tampa Bay Hotel captures the spirit of the season – Victorian style. There are 14 exhibit rooms; each dazzling with trimmed trees uniquely designed in 19th century themes and antique holiday accessories. While strolling down the Grand Hallway, your spirits will soar as you become immersed in carolers singing, Charles Dickens, much loved toys and wrapped gifts, Christmas stockings and Old Saint Nick. For those seeking tree-trimming inspirations, this year’s Christmas trees will be graced by whimsical tea cups, beloved ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, etiquette driven language of fans, blinding white 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, aromatic cigars, twinkling bells, and antique toys. Where’s Henry? is a game that ignites the passion for exploration in children and the young at heart. Strategically placed in each exhibit room, amid the myriad of decorations, is an image of Henry Plant, the founder of the Hotel. Armed with a checklist, the adventure begins to see if they can locate his image in every room. If they are successful, they will receive a prize. Santa Claus is coming to the Victorian Christmas Stroll on Wednesday, December 23rd from 10am-1pm. Complimentary with your Stroll admission; Santa will sit in the authentic Writing and Reading Room of the Tampa Bay Hotel and listen to children’s requests. You may bring a camera to commemorate this unique occasion, but remember no “flash photography” in the Museum. The Victorian Christmas Stroll preserves the essence of an old-fashioned Christmas and is treasured as Tampa’s most popular family tradition. Complimentary spiced cider and savory cookies will be served on the veranda every day, and each evening carolers will perform music for your merriment. Visitors are invited to sing with the carolers in front of the 15-foot tree in the hallway. Admission is $13 for adults, $11 seniors and $7 youths (4-18years). Discount Days are December 5, 6,12, and 13 when admissions are reduced to $9 adults, $8 seniors, and $5 youths. Proceeds from the Victorian Christmas Stroll fund significant museum restoration and preservation projects, as well as educational programming. www.plantmuseum.com/

The streets will rumble on Sunday, December 4, as thousands of motorcycles will parade through Pinellas County. Jim’s Harley-Davidson of St. Petersburg is hosting a big charity event. Twenty Four years running, the Jim Rosenkrans Memorial Toy Run raises money, food and toys for local Pinellas County Elementary schools. With over $1,000,000 raised, the event has become a major vehicle for delivering much-needed items for our local community. In the beginning, Jamilou was a teacher at Rio Vista Elementary and experienced first-hand what obstacles the School System was up against. Jim Rosenkrans was a retired St. Petersburg Fire Fighter and owner of Jim’s HarleyDavidson. They both shared a passion for helping kids. They decided that no child should be without a toy during Christmas and in 1979, created a vehicle for giving back to the community. The event has grown much since then with its banner year’s attendance consisting of 2,500 people and 1,800 bikes. Jim passed away in 1988 and Jamie decided to take over the business and continue the run in his memory. She renamed the event the Jim Rosenkrans Memorial Toy Run and continues to fundraise for the cause. Not forgetting its humble beginnings, the Toy Run is still a major event for the dealership where owner Jamilou still plays an integral role in its success. Although Jim is no longer here to share this momentous occasion, his memory lives on in the run. It is a $15 donation or a new, unwrapped toy per person to participate in the Toy Run. Riders will receive a commemorative pin, free lunch, and the chance to ride in the parade as well as the opportunity to help the local community and put a smile on a child’s face. Kickstands are up at 10am for the parade. The parade route includes a scenic tour through St. Petersburg, St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island and Pass-A-Grill. The after-party begins at 12pm featuring the musical stylings of The Farm, a 50/50 Raffle, a silent auction, cold beer, great food and fun. For further information, visit www.jimshd.com, or call 727-527-9672.

o matter what your religious holiday preference is, ‘tis again ‘The Season,’ the time of year we collectively fear, loathe and adore. Long ago, humans, came together in the winter to share their warmth for survival. Now winter time means the coming holidays and shopping chaos. The over-repeated jingles and lame office parties. Deaf Aunt Gertrude’s loud cackle and Drunk Uncle Bob’s highly inappropriate jokes. Even with all the modern day stresses, human beings still collectively seem to treasure this time of year. Winter is a time of rest, reflection and remembrance. We miss the people we cannot be with and our loved ones who have passed on. We talk, shop, eat, drink, cry and laugh our way through ‘The Season,’ because we need each other to get through the cold months. We ALL have a need for warmth. Performing little-known gems and holiday standards in the styles of classical, musical theatre, gospel and spoken-word, this unique, one-of-a-kind concert is sure to make you feel good all over. Featuring Becca McCoy, Colleen McGrath, Fiona White and Tia Jemison, their Empowered vocal artistry will surprise and delight you in one fantastic night of holiday spirit and warmth! A story that speaks to the very heart of American integrity. A tender portrait of a southern town, brimming with powerful lessons of tolerance, justice and quiet heroism and a message of fighting for what is right. Book by Harper Lee. 1961 Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

By David Hare, a contemporary riff on the once-banned La Ronde, an exploration of lust, class and the power of sex. A sensation in London and New York, this scandalous play is full of erotic energy as one actor and one actress play all ten partners in a continuous daisy chain of sexual liaisons. Funny. Razor sharp.

By Neil Simon. Biloxi is the second play in the “Eugene” Trilogy! Social, racial and ethnic issues are tackled with Simon’s superb comic timing as Eugene is drafted to serve in WWII and comes of age in ARMY BOOT CAMP! Rich in both humor and ethical confrontation. Tony AWARD for best play: 1985.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1983, this high stakes drama is a beautiful yet devastating depiction of a mother and daughter in crisis. With humor amid vibrant emotional honesty, it is a penetrating examination of helplessness Eloquent and touching. A stunning theatre piece.

By Howard Crabtree. In this side-splitting musical extravaganza, new heights of hilarity are reached in outrageous skits and over-the-top costumes. Smart, inventive lyrics match wits with sequins and feathers as an old-fashioned revue collides with a campy, gay send-up of Broadway musicals. 1996 Drama Desk Award for Best OffBroadway Musical. www.stageworkstheatre.org; or call 813-251-8984.

DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to life on stage. Shrek The Musical is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!

There can be no doubt that people are talking about Cee Lo Green – that his is a name on the lips of millions of music fans. But are they talking about Cee Lo in the right way, for the right reasons? Mention his name to most people and they’ll likely say, “Sure, that American bloke who had that song, Crazy, first single to go to No 1 on downloads alone”, or, “He was in that band, whadya call ’em, two dudes, dressed up as female film stars?”. Or, “Oh, got ya, he’s that fella with the tattoos on his face, bald head, big teeth, has that cool new song?” By the end of this year, we will no doubt be able to add to such remarks variations on, “You bought that Cee Lo guy’s new album, The Lady Killer? No? Well, you need to”. Bill Edwards Presents NEW YEAR’S DISCO EVE Featuring GLORIA GAYNOR, SISTER SLEDGE And MAXINE NIGHTINGALE - Dec 31 Get your groove on New Year’s Eve with these disco queens! Tasty Food and Drinks! RED LOBSTER

A Shiny New Old Friend by Melissa Wolcott Martino

S

ometimes, when an old favorite restaurant has been around for a long time, people drift to the “new guy on the block” to check it out. Red Lobster is an old favorite, but also now the “new guy.” With it’s newly redesigned restaurant and menu, it’s time to check in and rediscover your “new” old favorite Red Lobster at 6151 34th Street North, St Petersburg. Red Lobster was founded in Lakeland by restauranteur Bill Darden in1968. Today there are over 680 locations across the US and Canada, with 17 in the Tampa Bay area — all company owned, no franchises. As time went on, the Darden group of restaurants grew to include the Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, Longhorn Steakhouse, Capitol Grill, and Season’s 52 — all area favorites. The 34th Street Red Lobster (#19 in the chain) has been at the same spot now for 42 years, but the location is the only thing old about the restaurant. The redesigned interior and updated menu provide a welcome dining experience. What’s new? The nostalgic coastal decor reminiscent of Bar Harbor, Maine is the perfect setting for the new fresh seafood menu. Warm wood tones and wedgewood blue accents, cozy

lighting, beautiful Maine photographs along with mariner flags adorning the walls, and comfortable booths get you in the mood for the delicious meal to come. The restaurant has a wood-fire grill, manned by certified Grill Masters as they sear fresh fish, Maine Lobster, shellfish and steaks. You may not realize it, but it is Red Lobster that introduced America to new seafood species like Maine lobster, snow crab, jumbo shrimp and tilapia. Popcorn Shrimp? Yep, Red Lobster. Maine lobster is flown in every night, and all the salmon is fresh from Norway. The fresh fish menu is updated daily. Chef’s specials change seasonally, and the chef comes up with delicious recipes that best suit the seafood selection of the time.

Some of the newer items on the lunch and dinner menu are the creamy Lobster Bisque soup; Hand-

Battered Fish and Chips served with tarter sauce and malt vinegar; Pecan-Crusted Jumbo Shrimp with a maple-cherry glaze served over wild rice pilaf; Parmesan-Crusted Tilapia served with fresh broccoli; and Maple-Glazed Salmon and Shrimp served over wild rice pilaf. Entrees come with a choice of sides. The ultimate feast is called —oddly enough — the Ultimate Feast, and includes a tender split Maine lobster tail, steamed snow crab legs, garlic shrimp scampi and Walt’s Favorite Shrimp. You can also create you own feast from a variety of succulent seafood choices. The “Quick Catches” lunch menu was designed for guests with

no worries about not finding your favorite comfort food! And don’t forget to leave room for the oh-so good decadent Warm Chocolate

Chip Lava Cookie — a warm thick chocolate chip cooke with a molten chocolate center, topped with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce.

busy schedules. Prices start at only $6.99 for items such as Crispy Beer-Battered Shrimp served with freshly cooked potato chips and remoulade sauce. Try the New England Lobster Rolls, with chilled Maine lobster lightly tossed with creamy mayo, celery and onion on buttery toasted rolls, served with potato chips for $11.99. Non-seafood eaters will also have a tasty selection of menu items to choose from, with interesting steak and chicken recipes. Red Lobster also has allergen menu information for those with food sensitivity, and offers a healthier children’s menu. Some things should never be tampered with, and here it would be Red Lobster’s famous and fabulous Cheddar Bay Biscuits. So, www.AccentOnTampaBay.com

What’s not new is the high level of friendly and knowledgeable service guests receive at Red Lobster. The “VIP” service you receive is above the level you would expect from such a

reasonably priced restaurant. If you’re in a hurry but want a tasty meal, the restaurant offers take-out service. To really be “in the loop” you should join Red Lobster’s “Fresh Catch Club” to receive discounts and specials notices. For more information visit Red Lobster’s website at www.RedLobster.com

TEQUILA AVION - Smooth and Flavorful

I

ntroduced early this year, Florida has welcomed Tequila Avión and its Silver, Reposado and Añejo varietals in a big way. Said Janet Fagnan, President of Tequila Avion LLC, “Demand for Tequila Avión has exceeded all expectations and initial projections. Florida is a critical market since it is the third highest state in tequila consumption and has a dynamic, multi-cultural and vibrant social scene.” Initial distribution included select bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels and retailers throughout the state. The great taste and smoothness of Avión makes this product extremely successful in Florida as it has been in all its other markets. What distinguishes Tequila Avión is its combination of ultra premium quality, flavor and unmatched smoothness at a price tag well below what you would expect for a product this good. The production of this smooth tequila begins high in the hills of Jalisco, 7000 feet above sea level, where the finest handpicked Blue Weber Agave slow roasts in brick ovens to bring out a blend of natural flavors and aromas. Before it’s bottled, Tequila Avión is stroked ten times longer than other tequilas. The proprietary Ultra Slow Filtration process filters Tequila Avión into smooth Silver, Reposado and Añejo varietals. The result is a flavor profile and smoothness loved by everyone who tastes, including the judges at the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition who honored Avion with Double Gold distinction. Whether you sip it, mix it or enjoy it straight up, Tequila Avion should appeal to everyone. For further information, and some seaonal recipes, please visit www.TequilaAvion.com

Mo’Ziki

Give Me Mo! by Melissa Wolcott Martino

brand new dining concept has cropped up in Largo featuring delicious Greek cuisine. I hate to call it a fast food restaurant— A which carries a connotation of being lower quality—but you do get

your food very quickly, you do order from a counter, and the price is right. Other than that, the quality you receive is the same as any fine food restaurant, with healthy fresh ingredients and tasty recipes. Mo’Ziki’s name is derived from the tzatziki sauce commonly used with the Greek gyro sandwich, with the “mo” meaning “more” in a neighborhood vernacular. The clever concept was the brainchild of two Tampa Bay old friends and experienced consultants/ restauranteurs, Geoff Brown and Josh Bowles. The 64-seat Largo location is the first of what will hopefully lead to many franchises. Mo’Ziki’s menu is not extensive, but it includes the most popular Greek sandwich and salad fixings. The best part of this dining experience is that you design your own meal. With a spread of fresh meats and vegetables, you can order up your own tasty dish. You start the process by selecting a base such as pita, wrap, bowl, salad, etc. Then you decide on gyro, chicken, steak, hot veggies, and hummus, and pick from some fifteen fresh veggies and cheeses. Top it off with a choice of six unique homemade ‘ziki sauces or four dressings, and you’ve got one memorable dish. There is also a children’s menu, and assorted fountain and bottled drinks including domestic and imported beer. Mo’Ziki’s average meal price is $8.50 per person. Lunch and dinner are served seven days a week, from 11am to 9pm, with the exception of major holidays. Catering and take-out are available. The restaurant is located at 10801 Starkey Rd., Largo, FL, 33777; phone 727-397-8300. Visit online for more information, www.eatmoziki.com Mo’ good, mo’ better, Mo’Ziki!

ANCIENT EGYPT—ART AND MAGIC: Treasures From The Fondation Gandur Pour L’Art - Dec 17 - April 29

This landmark exhibition brings to life one of the greatest civilizations in the history of the world. Ancient Egypt—Art and Magic: Treasures from the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art, on view from December 17 - April 29, spotlights astonishing objects of every kind. Mummy cases and sacred works in diverse media, tomb and temple reliefs, papyrus fragments, alabaster vessels, and rare objects comprised of precious stones make this one of the most dramatic shows ever presented at the MFA. The 100 works demonstrate the genius of

ancient craftsmen, and the magical or spiritual qualities of the objects are revealed at every turn. The internationally respected Egyptologist Dr. Robert Steven Bianchi is the guest curator. A magnificent red granite torso of Rameses the Great honors one of the most celebrated pharaohs in history. A large stele, or funerary marker, commemorates his son Rameses III. Other key works include a tomb relief of the nobleman Nefer-Hotep, a relief from the Amarna Period from a temple erected during the reign of the Pharaoh Akhenaten and his wife Nefertiti, and a fragment from a temple relief paying tribute to Alexander the Great. A limestone sphinx is similarly impressive. The sphinx, with the head of a pharaoh and the body of a lion, points to the profound interrelationship of humans and nature in ancient Egypt. The natural world was not something apart for the Egyptians, and neither were the deities, who could take the form of animals and natural forces such as the sun. Ancient Egyptian art centers on transformation, renewal, and eternal life. These objects were invested with visual and symbolic power. Hieroglyphics, the ancient Egyptian

written language, were, by themselves, a high form of artistic expression. The mummy cases or sarcophagi are the largest works in the exhibition. One is covered in colorful images—like a brilliant painting—and was designed to honor the status of an unidentified court official and to assure his eternal life. Another, more than six-and-a-half-feet tall, includes inlays of alabaster or limestone, as well as hieroglyphics, and has a monumental presence asserting the authority of a certain Hor-Em-Akhet. THE MAGIC OF ANCIENT EGYPTIAN ART Magic and spirituality infused every aspect of Egyptian art. Instead of providing a chronological survey, Dr. Bianchi has emphasized the objects’ sacred qualities. Priests accompanied the workers to gather natural materials and conducted specific rituals upon entering and leaving the quarries.

According to Dr. Bianchi, “for the ancient Egyptians, all stones were considered to be a privileging material, because they symbolized eternity, permanence, immutability, and incorruptibility… Any object created in stone or any text inscribed into stone remained intact and immune to the agents of time. Stone, possessed of a vital energy, was alive.” Statues of gods and pharaohs possessed their animating spirit. In antiquity, expeditions to the Red Land—the desert, a place of chaos, evil, and demons—were ordered by pharaoh. The materials were returned to the Black Land— named for the rich silt deposited by the Nile—where the ancient Egyptians lived and thrived. Craftsmen then converted these raw materials into fascinating and timeless objects representing cosmic order. The Black Land was the world of civilization, and the color black signified rebirth. These objects always had an elevated purpose and meaning, but they can be appreciated for their sheer beauty alone. MFA is located at 255 Beach Dr. N.E., St. Petersburg, 727-896-2667. www.fine-arts.org

BETWEEN LIGHT AND SHADOWS: The Photography Of Berenice Abbott And Larry Silver - Thru Jan 1 With the work of Berenice Abbott and Larry Silver, Between Shadows and Lights focuses on the remarkably similar career and aesthetic choices of these 20th century photographic pioneers. Separated by a generation, each turned her/his camera on the complexity of burgeoning American metropolises. Berenice Abbott (1898 – 1991) was seduced by the evolving urban landscape of New York City. She sought to create photographs that would document the interactions of urban life, including the diverse people and the places they lived, worked and played. Larry Silver (born 1934) began exploring the streets and subways of New York at the age of fifteen. He studied photography at the High School of Industrial Art in Manhattan. Silver focused on the relationship between the inhabitants of New York and the physical landscape of an evolving urban environment. NO LIMITS: JANET BIGGS - thru January 8 For almost fifteen years, Biggs has been an important figure in the world of video art. Her work has been featured

in over 100 solo and group exhibitions around the world and is widely collected by institutions and individuals. Janet Biggs has explored the tense relationships between athleticism and human ambition, individualism and community, and free will and control. Her work has focused on sports and natural environments and has ranged from the claustrophobic pool with synchronized swimmers to the vast expanse of the High Arctic.

WORLDS APART: MYTH & HISTORY, GODS & MORTALS, HEROES & HYBRIDS - thru Feb 5 Worlds Apart explores the many intersecting spheres of the world of classical antiquity, in particular those of myth and history, gods and mortals, heroes and hybrids. For rather than a single, discrete time and place, classical antiquity might be better described as a series of diverse

and intersecting spheres—worlds apart from our own but also from one another. During the period covered in this exhibition, from about 2500 B.C. to A.D. 500, the vast areas of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding lands were believed to have witnessed countless episodes, some verified by archaeology and historic accounts, others now considered wholly legendary. In this exhibition, objects have been grouped so as to accentuate both similarities and differences between myth and history, gods and mortals, heroes and hybrids. REALISM: SELECTIONS FROM THE MARTIN Z. MARGULIES COLLECTION - thru March 4 In the second exhibition drawn upon the partnership between the Tampa Museum of Art and the Martin Z. Margulies Collection in Miami, Realism provides a compelling view of the realist tendencies in the visual arts of the last 30 years. Juxtaposing stellar examples of the P h o t o R e a l i s t movement in painting with a selection of sculptural installations by leading contemporary artists who push the boundaries of what constitutes realism in our highly charged environment, the exhibition includes artists such as William Beckman, Davis Cone, Leandro Erlich, Tony Oursler, and William Ryman. HOLIDAY WINDOWS ON CENTRAL AVE Through January 2

A collaborative force has formed to create a destination-based district called the Central Arts District which runs along Central Avenue between Fourth and Eighth Street. The first event planned for the

district, which includes Florida Craftsmen Gallery, the 600 Block and the Morean Arts Center, is Holiday Windows on Central Avenue. The windows will be creative and arty which represents the vibe of the district which has a concentration of artist galleries, boutiques, restaurants and cafes, music venues and other independent shops and businesses. According to Diane Shelly, executive director of Florida Craftsmen Gallery, the gallery works with an additional 300 artists from all over the state as the state headquarters for the organization and there are artist studios at Art Lofts above Florida Craftsmen that has 18 individual studios and a classroom. The Morean Arts Center and its adjacent Glass Studio & Hot Shop

anchor the western end of the four block district. Tourism is vital to St. Petersburg and tourists are looking for real and authentic experiences and discoveries that are arts and culture focused, stated Wayne D. Atherholt, marketing director for the Morean. Further, we have the transportation infrastructure with the Central Avenue Trolley now going out to the beaches to bring people here, Atherholt added. This fun and eclectic district that has businesses that specialize in fashion, art, food and music that want to focus on the walkability of this five block district and bring the fun back into holiday shopping and memories. In doing so, they hope to further contribute to the revitalization of this area of downtown St. Petersburg and create a destination for visitors and residents alike to experience the authentic St. Petersburg. ______________________________

20TH CENTURY ABSTRACT ART FROM THE RINGLING COLLECTION - Composed entirely of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art’s permanent collection, the gallery installation 20th Century Abstraction provides a glimpse at this watershed moment in the history of Western art. Pieces by artists such as

lithographic printing firms of the 19th and 20th centuries is often overlooked in part due to the ephemeral nature of their works and also because they were printing large volumes for commercial sales. Nevertheless, the show lithographs printed between 1880 and 1925 demonstrate the high quality of design, rendering and color application that now makes these commercial prints highly desired collectibles. hen it comes to fine china, the phrase ‘handle with care’ couldn’t be more important. Everyone knows that china is fragile yet we still want to use it as if it were paper. Fine chinabe it Meissen, Wedgwood, or Royal Copenhagen-should be used with care. Rule #1: Don’t place fine china in the dishwasher, refrigerator, or microwave. If you chose to display your fine china in a china cabinet, give your collection breathing room. Do not stack plates more than six plates high and place separators in between each piece. Display teacups atop their saucers. Don’t hang teacups on hooks within a china cabinet since that display option places undue stress on the teacup’s handle and forces you to screw a hook into your wooden china cabinet, damaging the furniture. A full set of fine china should be displayed by itself in one china cabinet. Display other collectible objects (figurines, ceramic bells, etc.) elsewhere. Don’t crowd fine china; it needs room to prevent damage and to show off its beauty. If you must move your china, wrap each piece individually. Do not use newspaper as wrapping as the newsprint may bleed onto your china and leave gray streaks or dark stains. Individually wrap each piece in acid free tissue, then wrap it again in a white cotton cloth (small terrycloth face cloths or hand towels work well) or bubble wrap. Do not store your china in bubble wrap long term because bubble wrap traps heat. Heat may damage the glaze or the decorative pigment. When moving your fine china, prepare for the worst. I use the old adage ‘wrap, wrap, and reinforce.’ Wrap the piece once in tissue paper, wrap twice in bubble wrap or a terry cloth towel, and then reinforce the inside of the box with packaging material (newspapers, Styrofoam peanuts, etc). You will use a lot of material but it will protect your valuable china. Another solu-

tion for wrapping china is to use disposable diapers because they are cushiony and have sticky tabs attached; no need for extra tape. Remember that breakage to any one piece in a china set will negatively impact the value of the entire set. When packing or shipping fine china vases, bowls, tureens, chandeliers, etc. it is wise to pack Styrofoam or foam peanuts on the inside as well as on the outside of the piece. The internal and external packaging will protect the body of the china. www.AccentOnTampaBay.com

One last tip… take as much time and care unwrapping your china as you did wrapping it. ig Cat Rescue is the world’s largest sanctuary for big cats who have been abused, abandoned, retired from performing acts, or saved from being slaughtered for fur coats. The sanctuary houses tigers, lions, leopards, cougars, bobcats, lynx, ocelots, servals, caracals and others — a total of 16 of the 35 species of wild cat, many of whom are threatened, endangered, or now extinct in the wild. At this home for rare and exotic cats, The narrow mission of Big Cat Rescue is to provide the best permanent home they can for these cats. The broader mission of the sanctuary is to reduce the number of cats that suffer the fate of abandonment and/or abuse and to encourage preservation of habitat and wildlife. People are urged to behave in a way that will support these goals by teaching people about the plight of the cats, both in the wild and in captivity. This is accomplished through guided tours, educational programs for young people, and by maintaining a website that is a great resource for information about exotic cats. Big Cat Rescue has built enclosures in a very natural habitat with foliage and shelter on a 45 acre site, and provides the best nutritional and medical care possible. They have conditioning and enrichment programs to provide for the cats physical and psychological well being. The sanctuary is supported entirely by donation. Big Cat Rescue is located at 12802 Easy Street, Tampa. Call 813-920-4130 for more information, or visit BigCatRescue.org.

Move Twice your Gear with Half the Effort

T

he Train Reaction Device allows travelers to quickly connect and roll twice the luggage with half the effort. “Anyone on the road typically struggles with transporting all their clothes, shoes, toiletries and other belongings,” says company founder Jeff Herold. “It always amazes people how a device that costs so little can dramatically reduce the strain of getting bags from one place to the next.” Linking luggage in seconds, the Train Reaction Device creates a stable, balanced, four-wheel unit with a perfect

center of gravity. By using the smaller piece to leverage the larger, or connecting two of the same size, the device produces a weightless effect, allowing users to move their gear with a single hand -- leaving the other free for coffee, a cell phone or holding a child. To eliminate 100 percent of downward and upward force on luggage handles, users simply slip the device over the retractable handle of the smallest wheeled bag and through the riveted handle of the second. The process is completed by attaching the hook to the appropriate crossbar for desired incline, and quickly adjusting it to find the perfect balance point. A third, non-wheeled piece can be placed against the retractable handle. For more information, visit www.trainreaction.com.

FLUSH PUPPIES

his is great news for the environment, and dog owners everywhere. Flush Puppies doodie bags are specifically made to dispose of doggie doodie down the toilet. They are 100% hyrdo-biodegradable and flushable. Yes, really… flushable. They are made from Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) – a water soluble, eco-friendly, “green” alternative to plastic. Unlike plastic bags or other “biodegradable” bags, Flush Puppies actually biodegrade in water. What you do with the bags is completely up to you — trash ‘em or flush ‘em. But better to flush than to add more to landfills, where your dog’s “business” will likely mummify and may not decompose at all. From the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: “Pet waste can be a major source of bacteria and excess nutrients in local waters. . . Flushing pet waste is the best disposal method. Leaving pet waste on the ground increases public health risks by allowing harmful bacteria and nutrients to wash into the storm drain and eventually into local waterbodies.” So, there you go. Bag the poop, toss it in the toilet, and flush. Flush Puppies are clean and simple. For more information, visit www.flushpuppies.com.
