MAME, based on Patrick Dennis’ novel “Auntie Mame,” features a score by Jerry Herman and a book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. The original Broadway production opened in May 1966 at the Winter Garden Theatre with Angela Lansbury as Mame and Bea Arthur as her boozy friend Vera Charles. The restaurant was conceived by John Mays and TJ Thielbar, former founding partners in the first Bonefish Grill, and former executives at Hops Grill & Brewery. Since we love Bonefish Grill and used to love Hops before it’s untimely Tampa closing, we knew we were in for a taste treat at their newest endeavor. Noble Crust serves what they refer to as “Seasonal Italian with Southern Soul” food, a combination of traditional Italian cooking with Southern ingredients. Because they are very in tuned to using fresh seasonal ingredients, the menu changes often to offer different palate pleasing dishes. We had a little chat with Chef Rob Reinsmith, who is responsible for the menu choices. He informed us that everything is house made — all pastas, bread, etc. They partner with Fat Beet Farms in Tampa for their fresh herbs and vegetables.

he Noble Crust menu is very enticing with such fare as a Pimento Cheese Arancini with Mississippi comeback sauce (similar to a rémoulade), and rosemary-pepper jelly, which proved to be lovely, crunchy, and sweet with a little touch of heat. On the day we dined, one of the specials was a Vegetable Antipasti with three ramekins of different salads, which afforded us a wonderful combo of unique tastes. A Sweet Potato Ravioli dish with sage-brown butter and pecans was light and extremely flavorful. We have to rave most about the exceptional Noble Pig Pizza, which is just amazing — bursting with flavor. It is made with sweet fennel sausage, house cured porchetta, spicy sopressata, peppers, caramelized onions, tomato and fontina. For dessert we had a heavenly Milk Chocolate Gelato with pistachios, salted carmel and cacao nibs. The menu is moderately priced, but has a gourmet quality. The restaurant itself has a sleek urban chic décor with an open kitchen, and seats 160 people with available outside seating. Champagne brunch is now offered on Saturdays and Sundays, with a very attractive menu. How fortunate we are to be able to walk to one of the best restaurants in the Tampa Bay area. Bucs Bits Lavonte David Feared All Pro Linebacker is Really A Gentle Giant

he Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s All Pro Linebacker and Defensive Captain Lavonte David is a humble, hardworking athlete. With a blue collar type of attitude, this NFL star has arrived at the top of the list as one of the best linebackers competing in the NFL. His electric style of play, football IQ, and keen instincts make him a feared linebacker. Most would find that while he is a dreaded opponent on the field, Lavonte is nothing short of a genuine, gentle giant off the field. He has a personality that media, fans, and friends gravitate to. Accent On Tampa Bay learned more about Lavonte in this recent Q&A: How was your offseason? Do anything interesting? My offseason went really well! Even though it is “off-season,” I still was in the gym four, sometimes five times a week. Aside from relaxing and enjoying some time off, in March I went jet skiing with a couple of friends after a really tough workout – we just decided to meet up and have some fun. I am also really looking forward to a trip I am planning to Jamaica this summer. I have never been, so I am really excited about going there. The team’s 2015 draft was almost exclusively for offense...what does that say about the Buccaneer defense? I think it says a lot. Defensively, I think everyone can see that we have come a long way from the beginning of the 2014 season until now. We can feel it – everyone has come into their own and understands not only their own role but even the guys’ next to them. Coach has a lot of confidence in us, and he believes we can get the job done which in return gives us even more confidence. How has the team been looking in mini camp? Any standouts? The team looks good! All the guys are working re50

ally hard and getting after it to leave no stone unturned. There are a lot of things to look forward to going into training camp and to me, all of our additions this off season have stood out. Once you hear that these guys will be joining the organization, you can’t wait to see what they can do on the field and in our system. When you are finally able to see the guys in action who you might not be as familiar with, it really grabs your attention when they are out there catching on to things quickly. I have been really impressed with what they are bringing to the field and locker room.

You are going into your fourth year...do you consider yourself more of a veteran, or do you see yourself as still learning? I’m still on that learning curve; I’m not a veteran just yet. My consistent goal from year to year is to always improve on the previous. I am constantly trying to learn more – whether that be by studying my opponents, our system, or even my own play, the more I am learning, the more I can improve and the faster I can help my team. Going back to Nebraska days...you were there when the team switched from Big 12 to the Big 10 conference. Which conference was more your style of football? The Big 12 was a great, competitive conference but for me as a linebacker, I’d say the Big 10 was more my style of play. The Big 10 has more of a prostyle feel and look to it where the run game is prominent. When we played in the Big 12, I was the only linebacker on the field since teams would spread their offense, relying heavily on their pass game. When we made the switch to the Big 10, I was one

of three backers. What are your top charities for 2015? I currently don’t have my own foundation or charity but I do love to give back whenever I can. At every Buccaneers home game, I sponsor a section called Lavonte’s Legends. I invite 10 members of a local non-profit organization to attend as my guests. Each person receives a ticket to the one of the first two rows in the end zone, a t-shirt and meal vouchers. It is a way to give back to someone who might not always have a chance to come out to a professional football game. I also want to start getting into back to school initiatives. I definitely learned at a young age how important my education was and the what a big part it will play in my life. This year I am thinking about doing a Back to School drive. What’s your prediction for the Bucs’ record in 2015? My prediction is that the win lost ratio will be way better than the previous 2 seasons - Ha ha!

“Live Life to Discover” is the Renaissance Hotel group’s slogan, which seems fitting, as every hotel in the group is different. You can be pleasantly surprised by booking all Renaissance as you travel and not having any déjà vu moments. We had the occasion to visit the beautifully renovated (to the tune of $50M and five years) Renaissance SeaWorld Resort when in Orlando, and although it takes it’s theme from SeaWorld (which is directly across the road) it is not at all “theme-parky.” This Renaissance property is sophisticated urban chic. The only real nod to SeaWorld is a large orca whale mural (with no text on it), and some lovely waterfall features. That, and an aquarium theme by the center bar. Renaissance creates a vibe to fit in with whatever locale they are in. The Renaissance SeaWorld resort has 781 guestrooms and 65 suites, which surround a huge atrium that is sunny by day, and romantically lit by night. A lot of the hotel’s action takes place in the atrium, with the Mist Sushi & Spirits Bar taking center stage. Comfortable conversational chairs dot the floor for chatting or reading, and sections can be set aside for parties and events. This resort is an event planners dream as there are so many variables both outside and inside for large and small groups. The Renaissance has an app available to meeting planners to be in touch with every department at the hotel at the touch of a finger.

Our very spacious king junior suite was plush and tastefully decorated with sofas and chairs in warm tones, and a most comfortable bed. A large flat screen TV dominated one wall, and was tuned to gorgeous underwater sea life film accompanied by soothing music when we arrived. There was even a work desk, which, on this trip, did not tempt us at all. Relaxation was our theme. Although Orlando has so many restaurants to choose from, there is no need to travel past the resortâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s front door, as they have many varied restaurants right on property. From the Palms Bar & Grill by the pool, to the Tradewinds in the atrium (open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to the Boardwalk, which a trendy sports bar. Food is locally sourced, even most of the fish is from Florida. All the restaurants offer gluten free menus for those that desire it. Best of all is the R Kitchen, a private dining experience set up in advance for smaller groups, that is utterly delightful. We had the privilege of enjoying this concierge-level experience on our trip. Sous Chef Michael Cutter created a special dinner for us in the intimate counter-style seating facing his gleaming stainless steel open kitchen. He pulled out all the stops with preparing our favorite foods all while our favorite music was piped in. Pampered? You betcha! The R Kitchen is unique to the Renaissance SeaWorld property, and is also used for interactive cooking classes. Renaissance SeaWorld has a large property, beautifully landscaped with walkways through lush vegetation. You wonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t be able to get the kids away from The R-Aqua Zone water park with so many fun water games.

All dealers welcome ANY wager made on their behalf, but they definitely prefer bets made by the player that have a low house edge, such as the Pass, Come, Don’t Pass, Don’t Come and Placing the 6 or 8. Wagers made on a “Yo” (“Yo” is craps jargon for an 11) or a Horn bet means that a significant percentage of your gratuity ends up going to the casino, and not to them. Let’s examine both of your “tip” wagers. The “Yo 11” bet is one of the most popular bets on a crap game. As its name implies, an “eleven” must roll in order for this wager to be a winner. This bet is good for only one roll. If it wins, dealers will pay you, and themselves, at 15-1 odds and leave the original bet(s) on the table. You make this bet by tossing two low-value chips on the table, then state, “two-way Yo,” and a dealer will

place two Yo bets, one for you and one for the crew. Despite the payout odds on this bet being 15-1, the true odds are 17-1. This means that the house has an 11.11% advantage on this wager. A “horn,” or “craps-eleven” bet as it is typically called, is a one-roll wager that on the next roll of the dice their sum will be 2, 3, 11, or 12. If they total anything different (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10), you lose. If 3 or 11 appears, you are paid 15:1. If 2 or 12 rolls, the payoff is 30:1. Horn bets are made in even dollar units, divisible by four, with equal amounts bet on each of the four outcomes. Horn bets are resolved as though four possible winners had been bet individually. Although the payoffs can vary between casinos, the house edge on the “horn” bet is more than 12%. Do I recommend either of your two wagers? NO. The crap table offers two kinds of one-roll bets—bad and ugly. Your two proposition bets seemingly have lofty payoffs, but the house edge is far too high for you and the dealers to waste your hard-earned money on. This echibit extends from the late eighteenth century to an example from the twenty-first. Ukiyo-e, or “images of the Floating World,” depict hedonistic pleasures in ancient Japan— the world of geishas, kabuki actors, and sumo wrestlers. Woodblock prints of the eighteenth to nineteenth centuries by such celebrated artists as Utamaro, Hokusai, Hiroshige, and Yoshitoshi set the stage. Of special note is a portfolio, The Modern Japanese Print (1962), compiled by the legendary writer James Michener, who lived in Asia for many years. A Quartet of Quilt and Textile Exhibits from Across the Globe thru Aug 16

Nine larger-than-life geckos will be the centerpiece of a live auction to benefit local charities. Each of the large geckos, measuring approximately three feet long, will be created and decorated in a variety of media by local artists. The geckos will be on display in locations throughout the Gulfport Waterfront District as of July 4th. The art pieces will be auctioned during the seventh annual Gecko Ball on Saturday, August 29th. The new exhibit features works and reproductions, including reproductions of da Vinci diagrams, Dali manuscripts and paintings from the permanent collection, and reproductions of the invented objects both da Vinci and Dalí proposed in advance of their times. The exhibit shows how these two great artists shared an ambition to use the tools of art to explore the whole of the human experience, including math, anatomy, motion devices, religion, and visual perspective. They both imagined fantastical devices and inventions, some of which became reality, while others remained sealed in sketches and manuscripts. Visitors explore thematic groupings that demonstrate the range of shared themes, interests, and ongoing dialogue between the two across the centuries.

Yard Sale Tips From The Expert

have been advising people about at yard sales for decades. Here are my top tips for those of you who love yard sales—as buyers and as sellers. Many of us have spent a weekend driving around your favorite neighborhoods to shop on other people’s lawns. Typically you end up buying a few things that you really don’t need but you just can’t leave on a neighbor’s lawn without a watering can, vintage poster, and bunch of napkins. You spend $17 and call it a day. As a well-seasoned Ph.D. art, antiques, and collectibles appraiser, there are many things that people don’t know about yard sales. The first thing that most people don’t know about yard sales is that it is big business. You think it is just small time stuff with neighbors cleaning out the basement of old junk, but in reality, yard sales are the source of objects that command six figure price tags in other markets… markets far away from the front yard. That’s right, the high priced auction and internet markets for art, antiques, and collectibles use yard sales as a major source for inventory. And, many of the major auction houses and smaller estate auction houses regularly send out people known as pickers to get some of their auction inventory from yard sales. These people are sent to neighborhoods where the homes have reached the 50 year mark assuming that their original owners are ready to move on to assisted living facilities or downsized residences. Most unknowing yard sale hosts just think that you are just offering your items to naïve shoppers and fellow neighbors, well, be warned. You are competing with the pros out there. These buyers know what you’ve got, what it is really worth, where to sell it for top dollar, and they are not in the game to tell you that you just made a big mistake putting out that Eastlake table or vintage Guerlain perfume bottle on the front lawn. And your price is all wrong too! These guys are going to get you down on the asking price and take away something very valuable that was once in your house and was once a treasured family heirloom. Here is an example that will have you thinking twice before you have that yard sale. Recently, a $425,000 floral still life painting that now hangs in the Houston Art Museum was originally sold at a California yard sale for $18. Yep, the original owner’s family didn’t know that they had a priceless piece of fine art, so they unknowingly sold it at a yard sale for $20. The picker working for the auction house got them down to $18 and the auction house later sold it to the Texas museum for a whopping $425,000. That could happen to you. Find out first. Tips for Buyers Ok, so you get my point but you aren’t hosting a yard sale. You want to know about buying at yard sales. Here are my tips for buyers. Bring cash as it will help your negotiating power. Establish a budget and stick to it. Be polite but always negotiate. This isn’t friendship, this is business. Celebrity items bring big value. If it is in poor condition, leave it on the lawn. If there is a box of old jewelry that looks like junk, there is probably something overlooked in that box like a piece of 14k gold or sterling silver. Bring a magnifying glass, lupe, or at least your reading glasses. Ask the yard sale seller about the item’s background. Even if they don’t know a lot about the item, they still probably know more than you do about it.
