Purpose The purpose of this handbook is to set out the necessary guidelines and processes to make participation in sport at ACG School Jakarta successful for all involved. At ACG School Jakarta we value sport and physical education as we see the connection and importance of physical activity and sport as an essential pre-requisite for academic success and overall wellbeing. We encourage students and teachers to participate in sport to their best ability and will provide opportunities and exposure to a range of physical activities for students of all ages and abilities to engage in. We view sport as a learning opportunity to support many holistic and lifelong skills that support our students to be well-rounded, physically skilled, commit to effort, be healthy, have a sense of independence and be socially capable.

Included alongside the criteria a trial situation will include: 1. Equal trial time. 2. Panel that includes: Coaching staff and an independent selector (no relationship with the trialists) 3. Selection Protocol: Under no circumstances are parents or students to approach selectors to discuss outcomes and the Panel is to keep discussions confidential. A team list is submitted to the Sports Director who must ratify the decision and announce the team. Students who miss selection can request written feedback from the Panel, based against the Selection criteria within a 3 day period from the announcement of the team. 4. Grievance procedure: If students or parents have a concern that the selection was overlooked they can consider the following process: •

Reflect on the performance with respect to the Selection criteria and consider the qualities of the players selected.

Consider the strength of the team and depth of players.

Dealing with disappointment is a critical life skill, builds resilience and deeper self-awareness.

Non-selection creates an opportunity for parents to role model and work through this process with their son or daughter.

Email the appropriate Head of Code within 7 days. Respectful and courteous communication is expected.

The Sports Director will then collate feedback and your concerns and you will receive a response within 7 days.

School sporting achievements At the end of the school year during the Sports Prizegiving, student-athletes will be eligible to receive the Most Valuable Player (MVP) or Most Improved Player (MIP) award from each team in the ACG Sports Programme. Sport Programme 2023/2024 - Update October 2023

A brief history of the school Academic Colleges Group first began operations in Indonesia in 2001 when ACG English School opened at Kelapa Gading. The Director, Wayne Lloyd, led the school in the early days of operations from 2001 until 2005. During his tenure, ACG Education decided to partner with a local investor to open an International School in Jakarta and in 2004, the school opened as ACG International School Jakarta. Jan Menzies was appointed the first principal of the school and served until 2005 with approximately 40 students on the roll. In 2006, Barbara Burns was appointed principal and her knowledge of ACG School operations in New Zealand and her knowledge of international school operations enabled the school to become a registered Cambridge international School. The school recovered quickly from the economic shock of 2008 and an aggressive expansion plan was approved by ACG Education. In 2009, Chris Rawlins was appointed principal to lead the school through significant building renovations and construction. With Chris’ knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and school leadership, the school became an authorized IB PYP school in 2010. During Chris’s time at the school, renovations of the Annex and J Block were completed and in 2011, the main building opened. The school saw rapid roll growth during this time. In 2012 with a student roll of 248, significant changes to the Ministry of Education regulations and licensing led to international schools in Indonesia not only changing their names, but also fulfilling specific requirements. At this time, the school changed its name to ACG School Jakarta and formalized its long standing relationship with ACG Parnell College by signing a Memorandum of Understanding. ACG School Jakarta was one of the first schools to be recognized by the Ministry of Education as having a formal relationship with an offshore and accredited educational institution. In 2015, Indonesia experienced another economic downturn and large numbers of expatriate families (largely connected to the oil and gas industries) relocated from Jakarta leaving schools with as much as a 25% reduction in student roll. The school finished the year with a roll of 494. Henri Bemelmans was appointed principal in 2013 and remained in the position until 2016. Dr. Stuart Tasker was appointed in 2016 and was instrumental in guiding the school through the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school received IBDP authorization in 2017 and began teaching its first cohort of IBDP students at the beginning of the 2017/2018 academic year. The school celebrated its first graduating class of four students in 2017/2018 with all students completing the Cambridge International Examinations A Levels. Graduates were accepted to universities in Indonesia, Australia and the USA. In May 2019, ACG School Jakarta along with all other ACG schools joined Inspired. Inspired is a global group of premium schools educating over 38,000 students on five continents. Uniquely among international school groups, the group is led by top educationalists; and they are also all well-versed in all major school qualifications the world over, including the IB and A levels. Inspired’s Founder and Group Chairman is Nadim M Nsouli who led the strategic growth of the group since inception. Inspired’s President is Graeme Crawford, a renowned educator, who has started over 14 schools in the past 20 years; the Group Education Director is Dr Stephen Spurr who led Westminster School for 10 years (the number 1 ranked academic school in the UK); and Clarissa Farr, former High Mistress of St Paul’s, the leading academic girls’ school in the UK, is our Education Director. This is the premium group that ACG School Jakarta has now joined – 51 high-performing, forward-thinking schools worldwide, and a large extended international family of 38,000 students. Each of our schools, while rooted in – and contributing to - its own community, forms part of a dynamic global network, providing regular opportunities for the exchange both of ideas and international best practice and of students and their teachers. This is precisely the sort of global education that we know will be an advantage in tomorrow’s world, and from which we are certain the students of ACG School Jakarta will derive great benefit. These are the foundations upon which our Strategic Intentions have been built.
