February is the month of love, and I, for one, just LOVE living, working and playing in St. Louis. Forget the Rams!!! What a great city we have with all its Rich History, Architecture, Arts, Entertainment, Events and all the SEASONS. WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE??? Growing up in North Central Texas, one only knows two seasons a year. Seriously! Well, they say there are four, but I don’t think one day of Spring and one day of Fall really constitutes two seasons, do you? Experiencing the four seasons in St. Louis with the unique beauty of each, and the opportunity of things to see and do for “free” pretty much every day of the calendar year is truly amazing to say the least. And... speaking of the seasons, Spring is just around the

St. Louis?

corner, and we all know what that means….GO CARDS!!! Yep, spring training will begin in just a few short weeks and fans will be headed to Jupiter, Florida, and Roger Dean Stadium. So, if you are a Cards Fan (who isn’t), and travel south in the Spring looking to meet the players and maybe get an autograph or two, you will want to check out the tips in our Explorer section for “Getting Up Close and Personal With the Players”. Hug your Valentines tight this month and stay warm St. Louis. Love is in the air, and SPRING IS COMING, I promise!

All my best, Debbie

NEW TOWER GROVE DISTRICT WELLNESS SPA DEBUTS by K. Kalimba Kindell

In 2009, K. Kalimba Kindell and Delfaye Jason co-founded Intentions by Design, a wellness service and education company that provided training and development for corporations and individuals. Their wellness service helped improve the health and well-being of their clients; balancing stress management through lifestyle and nutritional changes. The duo soon realized that their clients did not have an avenue for certain relaxation services that would enhance the training and education that they were receiving. In 2010, with the need of a location that could provide these services, Ms. Kindell and Ms. Jason decided to open a day spa along with their wellness company to service the needs of their community and purchased a Massage LuXe® Face LuXe® franchise. Theirs’ was the first City of St. Louis location

of the franchise. Ms. Kindell and Ms. Jason became the only female owned; only African American owned, and the only licensed, professionally owned and operated franchise in the country. Their vision for opening a day spa and wellness center was to provide accessible, affordable and luxurious options for the residents of the city. Ms. Kindell, as a resident of the Southside wanted to be close to community collaboration and partnership opportunities with the schools, business, and non-profit organizations which serve the residents where she lives and works. Beginning in October 2015, the partners decided to listen to their intuitions and the voices of their supporters and customers/clients to expand their services. Ms. Kindell is now a Licensed Aesthetician, Manual Lymphatic Drainage Certified, Make-up Artist, and Brow Specialist. Both

she and Ms. Jason are Licensed Massage Therapists, Certified Wellness Coaches, and Certified Life Coach and Bodywork Practitioners that hold both a BA and MBA. With the expanded services their business then transitioned to become Serenity Wellness Spa to offer Spa and Therapeutic Massages, Bodywork, Energy work, Facials, Peels, Microdermabrasion, Full Body Hair Removal, a Brow and Lash Clinic, Individualized Nutritional Supplementation, Manicures and Pedicures, and Wellness Education Seminars. In addition, clients can enjoy beautiful Tower Grove Park views that take your breath away before and after a relaxing or therapeutic service. Serenity Wellness Spa is located at 3016 South Grand Blvd @ Arsenal St. Louis, 63118 Call to schedule an appointment or walk in. (314) 664-4563

SKIN CARE TRAVEL TIPS AND TRICKS by Kellie Salter

Are you taking a trip in the near future? Here are a few Tips and Tricks for Different Locales. It’s not uncommon for people to take trips over the winter months to warm up a little and enjoy a different scene or hit the slopes for the more adventurous types. Your skin notices the changes in climate and may react differently to your typical skin care regimen. Here are a few tips that Katie

Rodan and Kathy Fields, of Rodan + Fields Dermatologists and the creators of Proactiv® Solutions have put together to help you no matter where your travels might take you. S.O.S for Dry, Dehydrated Skin Avoid long, hot showers; they actually draw the moisture out of your skin and make you itchy. Instead take more tepid, quick showers. Apply a heavy moisturizer regularly after bathing or showering while skin is still damp to seal in extra moisture. If soaking in a warm bath; use bath oil. Use a loofah sponge or body microdermabrasion product regularly with warm water to boost circulation and remove dead skin cells. Rodan + Fields has excellent microdermabrasion products for your face, body and lips. In addition, keep humidity in your home at about 50% or use a humidifier. Heading to the mountains or high – altitude? Slather on extra moisturizer in the morning and at night. And don’t forget about the sunscreen. UV radiation increases 10-12% for every 3,000 feet of elevation. So even if you can’t see the sun, apply sunscreen with antioxidants

to protect your skin. There’s a difference between UVB and UVA rays. UVB, The Burning Rays are the ones you may be most familiar with. These are the rays that can cause painful and red, visible sunburns. Take note, that the sun’s rays are strongest between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Along with burning these UVB rays also can cause skin cancer. UVA, the Aging Rays penetrate deep into the dermis, causing tremendous damage over time. They have the ability to destroy collagen and elastin, causing wrinkles and sagging. UVA rays also stimulate pigment-producing melanocytes to release brown melanin, resulting in “liver spots” on the face, hands, and chest – a true hallmark of aged skin. Rodan + Fields Redefine Triple Defense Cream hydrates and protects your face from the harsh damaging rays and the Redefine Hand Regimen hydrates and protects your hands from the damaging rays. Protect your lips as well. The sun can be relentless at higher altitudes. Rodan + Fields Essentials Lip Shield SPF 25 is perfect for the beach or the slopes and glides on smoothly. Heading to the Tropics?

Keep your skin looking fresh Use a clay based mask weekly to unclog your pores and help prevent blemishes. Rodan + Fields Redefine Daily Cleansing Mask is recommended. Heat and humidity increase oil production. Apply oil-free moisturizer only to areas of the face that feel dry and tight. Your sunscreen comes off with your sweat, so reapply often. Mineral sunscreen containing zinc oxide can have a mattifying effect and may work better for oily skin. Looking to eliminate the lines and wrinkles, reverse your sun damage, or melasma? If you are challenged with sensitive skin or rosacea or suffering from hormonal acne... then let’s talk! For all of your skin care needs or questions, and for a free skin care consultation call me.

THE HAIR WHISPERER: WINTERIZING YOUR HAIR

We all know that cold weather, wind and snow can play havoc on the skin, but few people realize that your hair can also be just as badly damaged by the cold and winter precipitation. It doesn’t take long into the cold dry season of the year before your hair starts to misbehave. The problem with winter hair blues is that they can turn into irreversible damage by spring, leaving you no choice but to “chop your hair off”. Fly-a-ways, static, dry scalp, frizzy ends, and brittle hair are tell-tale signs that Jack Frost has been wreaking havoc on those delicate locks. Fear not, I’m going to give you the Do’s

by Scott Gardner

and Don’ts on “Winterizing Your Hair”, to keep your hair healthy and undamaged by winter’s cold claws. First, the Don’ts: Don’t go outside with wet hair. Most of us were warned as children that if we go outside with wet hair during the winter months we would catch pneumonia. Well, medical science has debunked that old wives’ tale, but if you go outside with damp hair in freezing weather, there is a very good chance that your hair could freeze. Freezing water causes it to expand, and if your hair has absorbed moisture and that moisture freezes, when it expands it will lead to damaged hair. Don’t wash your hair everyday: Every time you wash your hair, you strip all the nutrients and natural oils that your hair needs to be healthy. Also washing your hair too often will cause it to become dry and brittle and could cause breakage. Don’t Go Outside Without Protection: You can use a hat or silk scarf to protect your hair from rain, snow, or wind. A sudden change of weather can cause damage to your hair. Try to avoid wool hats, as they tend to be tightly woven together, therefore not allowing for much breathing room and thus will dry-out your hair.

Don’t Take Long Showers: As tempting as it may seem, don’t take long, hot, steamy, showers. The extended shower will not only dry out your hair, but your skin as well. Try rinsing your locks with lukewarm or cool water to help lockin moisture and create a healthy shine to your hair. Now the Do’s: Moisture, Moisture, Moisture: Most people think the summer is the season that leads to the most dry hair symptoms. They are wrong. While exposing your hair to heat and sunlight in the summer months, your body is perspiring and your sebaceous glands are working overtime to lubricate and keep the hair moisturized. In the winter, you are going from a cold, damp exterior environment to a heated environment where the air has been stripped of all moisture by any one of the heating methods available today. You need to make sure that you keep your hair protected from the leeching effects of the heated interiors you will be spending so much time in. Use Pro/Gen Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner and Pro/Gen Smoothing Cream to make certain the hair is moisturized and sealed against moisture loss. Use a Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner: Since your hair needs a little

extra TLC during wintertime and it’s not recommended that you shampoo your hair every day since it strips moisture from your scalp and hair. I recommend you use Pro/Gen Nourishing Shampoo which is specially formulated to moisturize and hydrate the hair, leaving hair looking refreshed and smoother. Then finish it off with Pro/Gen MoistureRich Conditioner that contains Argan Oil, along with Keratin and Collagen which helps restores the nutrients and helps hydrate what was loss by shampooing. Use a Humidifier: Since winter weather brings on the use of heat indoors, and that heat dries the air, it can also cause damage to your hair. A good humidifier can work well in overcoming this problem as it ads moisture to the air, which in turn, is beneficial to your hair, not to mention your skin as well. If you follow these Do’s & Don’ts on caring for your hair during the harsh winter season, you should be able to maintain the health and beauty of your hair and not resort to drastic measures. *All products mentioned in this article are available exclusively at Hans Wiemann. SPRING TRAINING 2016 THE CARDINALS ARE HEADED TO JUPITER!!!

Get Up-Close & Personal with the Players “Let’s Go Cardinals… Let’s Go!” is a familiar cry by the fans in St. Louis every year, and it follows the Red Birds south to their Spring Training home in Jupiter, Florida. The Cardinals are gearing up with many new names and faces on the roster, fans can get to know the new players and see their favorites returning. Spring Training allows fans not only to familiarize themselves with the new players; it is a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with them as well. Roger Dean Stadium is one of the best stadiums to have a personal contact and view of your favorite guys on the field. Any seat in the stadium gives fans the closest seats to the action than any Spring Training facility in Florida. If that is not close enough, enjoy taking in one of the six practice fields behind the stadium prior to a game! Players are much more accommodating during spring training when it comes to signing autographs. Get there early and be prepared to stand on the sidelines during practice. Players usually enjoy

chatting with fans and signing autographs just after practices prior to the actual game. Watch for familiar faces in the crowd too. Many Red Bird players enjoy watching the games on their days off the field. They, too, enjoy the games in the stands and are usually friendly to sign autographs or shake your hand. To make the most of your up close and personal time with players remember these tips: • Arrive Early for practices located behind the stadium. • Bring something you want signed. A jersey, hat, ball, photo, card or something to write on. • Have a Sharpie (or similar) permanent black marker (the players will not have one) • Be respectful to your fellow fans and limit your time with a player and always let the kids go first! • Be respectful to the players, remember that they are working and may not always have time to sign autographs and chat.

Spring Training Tour is a Homerun!

It is hard to believe, but baseball season will be gearing up for the New Year! Our St. Louis Cardinals had a fun and exciting 2015 with playing in the playouffs and race for the World Series! Spring Training begins in March in beautiful Jupiter, Florida. It is an experience for any true baseball fan

of any age! The St. Louis Cardinals play at Roger Dean Stadium, named after Roger H. Dean, proprietor of Roger Dean Automobiles – one of the first Mega Dealerships in Florida. The business has held the naming rights to the stadium since opening in 1998. Roger Dean Stadium is simply my favorite Spring Training facility in the country. Not just because I am a Cardinal fan, more so because of location, seating, and size! The stadium only holds 6,871 people, which makes every seat in the park a “home run”. The intimate feel of this stadium surrounds you and team players are almost within reach! It is as if you are sitting at a high school/college sports event with the big leagues. The Roger Dean

Stadium Complex is the only stadium in the country to host four minor league teams and host two major league teams – that being our Cardinals and the Miami Marlins. Not to worry though, Cardinal red takes over this venue by far and St. Louisans can be proud to call Jupiter the winter home of “Cardinal Nation”! Right before the stadium debut in 1998, I was privileged to take a tour of the construction site that would soon grace baseball fans from all over. I remember taking a bus out to a large sandy parcel of land with just a few trees here and there. I thought to myself, “what in the world are they thinking building this in no mans land”. But, this was truly a stadium being built with the mantra “if you build it… they will come” –

By Tod DeHart

and boy have they! Today, the stadium is surrounded with lush foliage and landscaping, parking facilities, restaurants, shops and a newly built hotel immediately across the drive from the stadium. In addition, Florida’s Atlantic University would grace the property next door within a few years after the stadium was completed. The new Alcoa neighborhood would rise with residential homes, apartments and condos making the stadium district active year-round. Each year, for the last 15 years, DIRECTIONS Tours has enjoyed taking people to Jupiter to experience the Cardinals in training. Many people take the...

Travel is fun and exciting, but it is also a a great way to enhance your life in many ways! Travel is proven to be one of the best ways to make your life healthier, happier, stronger and more fullfilled. Actual studies have proven that travel increases well-being, learning experiences, decreased stress levels, and creates memories of a lifetime. In addition, traveling builds stronger relationships, new friendships and connects people to new ideas and cultures. Vacation and relaxation go hand in hand. When leaving home (or work) and adventuring away from “the norm”, we leave our day to day lives and responsibilities far behind. This allows our bodies to reset our biological body clock. Notably, studies have shown decreased stress levels in people who travel. Reducing the amount of stress over just one week away on a trip, travelers registered lower levels of stress hormones in their saliva. Limiting our stress, our bodies no longer synchronize with the clock, but instead, with the sunrise and sunset. It is common knowledge that travel brings people together and builds new and everlasting relationships. Whether you travel alone, with family, or with friends, a vacation get away improves and creates relationships and friendships. In my 20 years of professionaltravel experience, I have taken joy and pleasure in seeing so

many new relationships form and grow while adventuring out. One of my greatest joys is introducing single travelers to new people, which ultimately become lifelong friendships. Because of this, I decided to create a more affordable pricing package for single travelers with DIRECTIONS Tours. When traveling as a single, one must pay more money in most cases (due to not spliting hotel costs). This leads to higher single supplemental costs and deters many people from traveling alone. So... I went to work with our vendors and negotiated better rates for our single guests. Now, when traveling with DIRECTIONS Tours, single guests can enjoy our great trips at the same rates of doubles or just a little more. (see details below). Many single travelers are also leary about traveling alone. Rest assured, you are never “alone” when you are our guests! There are so many great places to explore this holiday season and in 2016. DIRECTIONS Tours of St. Louis is a great place to start your vacation planning! Check out our Special Autumn Travel Pages in this issue of Active Lifestyles Magazine! Exciting destinations and adventures just waiting for you! For More information on our Single Supplements see inside pages of this Explore Section.

Spring Traing Tour continued... tour to enjoy easy access in/out of the stadium, fellow Cardinal fans and an all-inclusive tour package that allows relaxation and comfort throughout. Many travelers make spring training an annual event and vacation. We offer our Spring Taining package as a flight or motorcoach option depending on your time, budget and transportation preference. You can find out more information about our Cardinals Spring Training Tour below. Don’t miss next month’s issue of Active Lifestyles Magazine as we bring you a special Cardinals Spring Training schedule for the upcoming training season

Up Up and Away...

by Tod DeHart,

Top Airports Flying today can always be a little trying and tiring, but some

airports are making it a little less stressful and comfortable while you are there. Being in the travel industry for over 20 years, I have flown into all of the top 30 large airports in America, and some always top my experience, so I decided to publish a list of our magazine’s FAVORITE DOMESTIC AIRPORTS. If you fly through these airports, take a look around and breathe a little easier.

1

PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Portland, Oregon www.portofportland.com

PDX

2

OAKLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Oakland, California www.oaklandairport.com

OAK

The Pacific Northwest’s second largest airport is simply a gem. The airport is a hub for Alaska Airlines and a focus city for Southwest Airlines. However, that being said, it doesn’t have a busy mindboggling feel. PDX boasts a large open atrium-like terminal filled with plentiful food choices, artwork, and even a free-standing cuckoo clock welcoming passengers. Direct access to MAX-light rail and an in-terminal car rental center makes transportation options quick and easy. Non-stop flights are available from STL on Alaska and Southwest Airlines to PDX

San Francisco’s #2 airport is located just minutes from the city and is easy in/out access to the entire Bay Area. The airport is bright and welcoming and small enough for easy air and road connections. In 2015, the airport added a free automated train connecting travelers to the Bay Area’s BART rapid transit system. What the CITY of Oakland lacks in development and tidiness, OAK Airport luminates as though a knight in armor. Skip SFO and go OAK. Non-stop flights are available from STL on Southwest Airlines to OAK

3

DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Denver, Colorado www.flydenver.com

DEN

The largest and busiest airport on our list comes in at #3. Denver International Airport replaced the old Stapleton Airport in 1995. What the airport lacks in convenience to Denver’s city center, it makes top marks in connections. The airport is United Airlines’s fourth largest hub and the largest operations for Frontier Airlines. That being said, the airport’s connection traffic is large - but makes it easy with short concourses connected by an airport tram system. Passengers can explore the entire airport complex without having to leave the secured areas; which allows for a good stretch and opportunity to enjoy the great airport amenities (food and shopping). Note: as stated above, the airport is a distance from downtown Denver and costly for cabs and rental cars. The Denver transit system will soon connect the airport with light rail with a scheduled opening date in April 2016. Non-stop flights are available from STL on Southwest, United and Frontier Airlines to DEN.

4

SOUTH FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT South Ft. Myers, Florida www. www.flylcpa.com

RSW

GENERAL MITCHELL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Milwaukee, Wisconsin www.mitchellairport.com

MKE

Operated by the Lee County Port Authority, southwestern Florida is easily accessible and a great entry/ point to Sarasota, The Everglades and Naples. It also is a great alternative to flying into Tampa and Miami if you have a little extra time and don’t mind renting a car. The terminal and concourses are short and an easy walk to your luggage. They offer bright open areas which provide travelers views of the beautiful Florida landscape and sunshine. I-75 (north to Tampa and east to Miami) is just minutes from the terminal with easy access. Non-stop flights are available from STL on Southwest Airlines to RSW.

Milwaukee you say? Milwaukee’s airport may not offer a lot of flights outbound, but for St. Louisans it offers great nonstop access to all of Wisconsin (the states only large airport) and even Northern Illinois/Chicago. The airport is located just minutes from Lake Michigan and Milwaukee’s city center. The in-terminal rental car center makes easy air to land transport connections. The airport has also undergone many renovations in the past few years and includes a new baggage claim building. Non-stop flights are available from STL on Southwest Airlines to MKE.

STLInternational transformed Lambert St. Louis International Airport has had its ups and downs over the past 15 years but today the airport is well poised for the next 15 years and beyond. St. Louisans complained for years that the interior of the airport was dark and drabby and STL needed more nonstop flights. Well, if you haven’t been to Lambert or looked at scheduled service and destinations from the airport lately, this article will shed some light on this great airport’s recent transformation! Over a decade ago, “The Lambert Experience”, a 150 million dollar revitalization of the entire airport, services and amenities begun. Today, walking through the airport is a completely different (and happy) experience. New everything! Bright and airy concourses with new amenities and expanded security and baggage areas are prevelant and easy to spot. These renovations to the interiors of the terminals and concourses have been completed as of last year and more are on tap for the exterior grounds and buildings. Lambert has agressively seeked out more air service for St. Louisans as well. Airport passenger traffic was up in 2015 and already announced for this year, Lambert will increase connecting and originating traffic with Southwest’s operations shifting more connection flights through St. Louis. Ten airlines now serve STL. Southwest continues to dominate at Lambert and now offers over 45 non-stop destinations with 103 daily nonstop flights from the Gateway City. In the first quarter of 2016, eight new non-stop Southwest destinations will begin service. STL remains one of Southwest’s largest Focus Cities (hubs) and has been committed to STL since 1985. Other airlines continue to add more non-stop flights and options for St. Louisans as well. (www.flystl.com) Did you know you could now fly nonstop to all these 71 destinations from St. Louis? RETIREES NEED “LONGEVITY STRATEGY” by Jeff Ponte, Edward Jones Advisor

business or do some consulting? Your choice of lifestyle will probably affect every aspect of your longevity strategy.

The late, great Yogi Berra supposedly said it: “The future ain’t what it used to be.” And the same could be said of retirement. Due to several factors, such as advances in health care, today’s retirees are living longer, more active lives than their predecessors. In fact, you could spend two, or even three, decades in retirement – which means you need a “longevity strategy.” Such a strategy needs to be part of your overall retirement income strategy, but here are five key areas you’ll need to address: •Lifestyle – What do you plan to do during your retirement years? Travel the world? Stay close to home and pursue your hobbies? Volunteer? Open a small

• Income – Your biggest threat to an enjoyable retirement is the possibility of running out of money. This fear is apparently widespread; in a survey commissioned by Allianz, a life insurance company, more than 60% of respondents said they were more scared of outliving their assets than they were of dying. You need to create a retirement income strategy that incorporates, among other elements, a withdrawal rate that allows you to take money from your 401(k), IRA and other investment accounts in such a manner that you don’t run out. You’ll also need to answer other key questions, such as when to take Social Security – as you may know, the longer you wait, the bigger your monthly checks, until they “max out” at age 70. • Housing – Once you retire, you may

want to review your housing situation. If you’ve already paid off your mortgage, and you like your house, you may want to stay there. But if you’re thinking downsizing, or moving to a more favorable climate, or even purchasing a vacation home, you need to calculate the costs and include them in your plans. • Health care – As far as health care, consider these questions: What will the treatment of existing medical conditions cost over the long term? Do you know what costs Medicare will cover? Have you thought of how you might pay for a nursing home or other long-term care? This last item is especially important, because the annual average cost for a private room in a nursing home is more than $90,000, according to the 2015 Cost of Care Survey, produced by Genworth, a financial services company. A financial professional can suggest ways of meeting these long-term care costs.

• Caregiving – It’s possible, at least early in your retirement years, that you could still be a caregiver to aging parents. If so, you might need to factor in these costs to your financial strategy. Later on, you may need some caregiving yourself, such as that provided by a home health aide. So you’ll need to consider these potential expenses. Your retirement years can be filled with activities and accomplishments. And you can get even more enjoyment from this time of life if you stick to an appropriate longevity strategy. It’s Better to Review Your Annuity Than Rethink Your Retirement As with any investment, it makes sense to review an annuity every now and then to make sure it’s still working toward your long-term financial goals, such as retirement. Plus, you may find that there are features your current annuity simply doesn’t offer. That’s why we offer complimentary annuity reviews.

So regardless of where you purchased your annuity, call your local financial advisor to schedule your complimentary review. In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Old Courthouse Players will present “My Dear Julia,” a radio play chronicling the romance of General Ulysses S. Grant and Julia Dent Grant, at the Ulysses S. Grant Historic Site, 7400 Grant Rd. opposite Grant’s Farm, on Saturday February 13 at 1:00 p.m. and again at 3:00 p.m. The Grant Historic Site is the former White Haven plantation, where young Grant, then a recent graduate of West Point, first met his beloved Julia. Playwright NiNi Harris notes that they were an, “unlikely couple, she the daughter of a slave holder and he the son of a family appalled by slavery. Yet they were devoted to each other throughout their extraordinary lives.” After Grant died of cancer, General William Tecumseh Sherman said to his widow Julia, “You were as true as the needle to the thread, in poverty as in wealth, in adversity as well as exaltation.” Harris, author of “A Most Unsettled State, first person accounts of St. Louis during the Civil War,” lets Ulysses and Julia speak through their

own accounts of their lives together that were published in their memoirs. Other characters in the radio play include Mary Robinson, who lived as a slave at White Haven, Emma Dent, Julia’s youngest sister, and Horace Porter, a lieutenant colonel on General Grant’s staff. The play is named, “My dear Julia” recalling how Ulysses addressed letters to Julia when they were separated by military service and war. The play is approximately 40 minutes in length. Following each performance there will be a book signing of “A Most Unsettled State” with Harris. The Old Courthouse Players are a group of friends interested in local history and the preservation of local historic sites. Based at the Old Court House in Downtown St. Louis, they have presented radio plays on the history of Prohibition in St. Louis and the story of the St. Louis Riverfront. The plays are fashioned in the style of plays about events in St. Louis history that were presented on local stations during the early days of radio. The presentations are free. Since seating is limited, reservations are encouraged. For more information or to make a reservation call (314) 842-1867

Needy Paws Rescue of St Louis, established in 2014 by Director Lora Pappas, is devoted to saving animals in need, whose lives are in danger at high kill animal shelters, those who are strays, abandoned or owner surrenders, regardless of their size or breed. NPR is a 100% volunteer fosterbased 501(c)3 organization and has over 100 foster parents & volunteers. Since its inception, NPR has rescued over 700 dogs that are placed in approved foster homes that have passed inspections, reference checks and are qualified to take care of our rescued dogs while they wait for their Forever Family. We exist through donations received from the generous residents in St Louis and the surrounding area. All adoptable dogs are fully vetted being spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and heart worm tested. Needy Paws Rescue has at least 50 adoptable dogs every week. Below are just a few of our cuddly K9’s and you can view many more on our website; Contact us by: www.needypaws.org Facebook at: www.facebook.com/NeedyPawsRescue

If you are looking for a Handsome, 2 yr old, Pit Bull Terrier Mix, I’m your guy! I’m pretty much an all around nice dog who can be a cuddle bug. I need a home without children, because I get excited when I play. It would be really nice if you already have a dog because I would love to have a buddy to romp around with. I don’t mind cats either. I am house and crate trained.

I’m a cute 1 yr old, Rottweiler/Doberman Pinscher Mix, weighing about 40 lbs. I can be very shy at first, but I need my humans to spend time with me. I prefer older kids and I do okay with cats. I need another dog in your home because I get anxious sometimes and love the company. I am crate trained and do well on a leash. I’m looking for a family with a dog I can play

We are Beautiful 4 yr old Lab Mix sisters that need a home together! I’m Midnight, the Black Lab, that loves playing catch and Hershey likes exploring the yard. We don’t mind other dogs or cats and we’re house and crate trained. We love people and are now looking for our forever family together.
