from your Pastor God be praised and thanked for enabling us not only to continue in His will last year, but also to persevere by His grace this year. As God’s people, we are indeed blessed to experience His faithfulness once again through our new church’s theme, “Making Disciples in 2014” which is anchored on Acts 6:7, “And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly….” Together, let us contribute our best in doing our part in the fulfillment of the Great Commission, especially in producing and in multiplying disciples. However, before we can do such, we must first become the disciples God wants us to be. To be one among those, we need God’s Word, the Scriptures, for our wisdom, guidance, instruction, and growth. We should DR. ED M. LAURENA then have our own Bible so we can read, meditate, and apply it in our lives. Meanwhile, I commend to the Lord all those who made themselves available to attend our New Year’s Service, to join our January 2 Sunday School class’ prayer-time, and to participate in our first Saturday churchwide soulwinning drive. It was a delight to see members involving willingly in spiritual pursuits on the very first week of the year. Keep on with that zeal through God’s power as you support your area soulwinning, Bible studies, and follow-up activities – all of which are discipleship efforts. Let’s all glorify God, while worshipping Him in spirit and in truth this first Sunday of the year!

BLOATED BELLY, SHRUNKEN SPIRIT
"Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food." -Job 23:12
Bloating is caused by much gas and fats inside one’s stomach, thus, the result of any of the following digestive activities: overeating, eating too much fats or eating too fast. Entailed with the overwhelming fellowship during the holidays, many of us were not able to control the diet we need to maintain, for along with the merry-making is eating and drinking (of course, the acceptable beverages only). But before the year ended, have we even stopped for a while to check our spiritual statistics? We may have a belly that was fed with much, but our spirit continually struggles from craving the food we have overlooked to take. What malnutrition! Above is a very strong statement by a man who was permitted by God to be tested by circumstances and tried by the closest
people in his life. After every loss had transpired and with the mockery of his wife and three friends, Job kept himself founded in the Word of God. He has esteemed and looked upon the Scriptures as his treasure more important than necessary food. He has testified that he can never be overfed with God’s word. In fact, King David in Psalm 119:11 considered God’s Word to be an anti-oxidant, preventing the intoxicating sins to decay man’s spiritual being. In addition, the Word of God is compared to milk (1 Peter 2:2) and water (Ephesians 5:26) which are essential to the growth of every human being. This year that everyone in the church is challenged to make disciples, it is therefore indispensable that we read, study, and meditate on the more valuable food for man --- the Word of God. May we treat the Bible the same way the men of God did during their times. Doing this daily, we may expect increase in faith (Rom 10:17), and multiplication of disciples (Acts 6:7).
THE BLESSINGS OF DISCIPLESHIP
O
Our theme for the year, “Making Disciples,” aims to help every member of the church to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus and to produce disciples as well. This will encourage us to bear fruits or to produce new disciples of Jesus. I am already a 13 year-old fulltime worker of the church and I learned that bearing fruits is not easy. Soulwinningmay be the most important part of the Great Commission but discipleship is the most challenging. We can win a person in five to ten minutes but we cannot disciple a person in five to ten minutes. It takes months and even years of spiritual parenting, consistent visitation and Bible study and fervency in praying. I also experienced moments of fruitlessness in my early fulltime ministry years. But when I learned the right way of visitation and follow up, God made me fruitful. Preparation and prayer are the keys for successful visitation. I learned that I cannot visit a new convert without praying for him the whole week and preparing a Bible study for him. It is the Word of God that we impart to our new converts that will bring spiritual growth and maturity in their lives. Matthew 28:20 tells us, “Teaching them all things whatsoever I have commanded you.…” We ought to teach and pray for our disciplees if we hope to bear spiritual fruits this year. Last year, by God’s grace, was the most productive year for me and for my area when it comes to making disciples. We have witnessed the power of God as many new families and individuals were added to the area and other backslidden families were restored. These all happened when members of the area also learned to visit and to conduct their own Bible studies. Let us pray to God that this year will be a greater year for everyone of us in the area of Making Disciples. God bless and a happy new year to all.

BYF Retreat Held Victoriously in Tagaytay
EIGHTY-SEVEN
young people escaped from the holiday aftershocks as they went to Tagaytay not just for unwinding but for a great time appreciating how good God has been for the year that had passed. They moved out of San Pedro early morning of Monday, December 30, to experience the cool breeze in such a mountainous area in Cavite. Men and ladies vied for prizes in the games which stirred up the cooperation of every delegate. Such was followed by a series of testimonies from various individuals representing every Sunday School Class – High School Boys and Girls, College Young Men and Ladies, Working Men and Ladies. The sincere thanksgiving and acknowledgement of God’s power in their lives gave warmth to the hearts of the listeners. Though at the Picnic Grove are many good spots for picture taking which the youth even enjoyed, still nothing could beat the sharing of the Word of God which highlighted the event. Four speakers managed the divided sessions and before lunch was the main challenge delivered by Preacher Pops Villarosa from Matthew 5:10. All the participants left the venue with spirits charged and prepared to face 2014 claiming that they can be “blessed” and indeed, so very happy if, being at their youth despite some persecutions, they would keep their focus on God: loving and serving Him.

Making Things New
The New Year 2014 brings with it a fresh hope, a new challenge, a call for changing the old ways for a better life lived for the purposes of God. G. K. Chesterton, a profound thinker and writer, said, “The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective.” If we are truly saved, the salvation we received from the Lord Jesus Christ has empowered us to live a renewed life in Him. Jesus Christ has assured in 2nd Corinthians 5:17 that, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” We are no longer shack“Remember ye led and in bondage to the power and penalty of sin. Our submission not the former to the authority of the Word of God will renew our minds, thoughts, things, and actions to enable us to be useful in making a life...our life and those of others. neither Most people just make a living by addressing the mateconsider the rial necessities of life, but it takes the sanctifying power of the Word things of old. of God to make a life. The world is in dire need of people who dare Behold, I will oppose the spiralling tide of godlessness in our midst. We are that do a new thing; people and we must meet that need amidst oppositions. We must daily fill our minds with the proven and timeless principles of God's now it shall Word which we will also use to inspire and motivate others in dospring forth; ing the same as was chronicled in Acts 6:7, “And the Word of God shall ye not increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem know it?
