from your Pastor “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11). Thus is what we should declare while being reminded, reinforced and revitalized with the need to memorize God’s Word. Truly, memorizing God’s Word enables us to keep in our heart, store in our mind, and apply in our life the truths of the Scriptures. It also helps us replace thoughts of man’s filthiness, foolishness and faithlessness with those of God’s goodness, graciousness and greatness. In our commitment to make disciples, let us always use the Word of God, which is the sword of the Spirit, the mirror of the heart, the food of the soul, the light of the path, and the lamp of the feet. In so doing, we ourselves DR. ED M. LAURENA are strengthened, settled and secured in our service, stewardship and sacrifices for our Saviour. Thus, God’s Word can be seen at work in our lives through our involvement in our area soulwinning, visitation, Bible study, discipleship endeavors, Nehemiah project-giving as well as through our attendance and attentiveness in our Sunday School, worship service, prayer meeting, and all church services. Today, let us altogether learn from God’s Word, meditating and memorizing it with delight and gratefulness.

Happy 38th Wedding Anniversary to Pastor Ed and Ma'am Dhel Marriage is a journey and the best is yet to be. Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads, which sew the couple together through the years and make them an influence and example for the furtherance of the Gospel and building lives. We praise and thank the Lord for the wonderful years that He has victoriously upheld and blissfully cherished our first couple...a testimony of love, trust, partnership, patience and tenacity for the cause of Christ. THE BLESSINGS OF DISCIPLESHIP
A

God’s Word Committed to Memory
Proverbs 7:2, 3 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart. These passages are from a chapter which discusses the deceiving power of evil epitomized by the character of the strange woman. Looking into the first four verses of Proverbs 7, we see the antidote in refusing the strange woman’s ways and in forsaking her paths (verse 25). God addresses us, as His dear children, to keep and live His Word. He commands us not only to make the Scriptures the apple of our eye as we read them daily; nor simply bind them upon our fingers when we jot down notes as we study them diligently; but with the same weight as the two aforementioned treatments to the Word of God, we should memorize the Scriptures that their precepts may be practicable and easy. Yes, forgetfulness is not a respecter of persons. Anyone may fail to remember names, telephone numbers, schedules, what was said, or most often, where something is. However, considering that memorizing the Scriptures is as vital as reading and meditating them, let us be challenged and further be blessed, such as the villagers in a small town in Poland.
O
UR ATTITUDE in memoriza10 PRACTItion should be prayerful and humble, seeking to examine CAL TIPS our lives and gaze deeply ON KING into the character of God. Remember, information is not transformation. JAMES The Bible says that it is sin to him knows what is right and does not BIBLE who do it. Below are 10 Suggestions on SCRIP- Scripture Memorization: TURE 1. Memorize the Word of God in comProverbs 27:17 says, “As iron MEMORI- munity. sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth ZATION the countenance of his friend.”
2. Memorize along with your family. Memorizing together is a great way to teach the whole family the truth of the Bible. 3. Use verse cards. Make verse cards and place them in areas of your house or workplace that you will notice. Deuteronomy 6:8-9 says we are to bind God’s commands on our hands, on the doorposts of our houses and on our gates so that they be constantly reminding us of God and His commands.
Shortly before the World War II, a Bible distributor visited them and gave a Bible to their leader, who was converted by reading it. The new believer then passed the Book on to the other inhabitants of the village. The cycle of conversions and sharing continued until 200 people had become believers through that one Bible. Few years after, the Bible distributor returned to meet this group of Christians for a worship service in which he was to preach the Word of God. He normally asked for testimonies but this time he suggested that the people recite verses from the Scripture. One man stood and said, “Perhaps we have misunderstood. Did you mean verses or chapters?” These villagers had not memorized a few select verses of the Bible but whole chapters and books. Thirteen people knew Matthew, Luke, and half of Genesis. Another person recited the whole book of Psalms. Surely, the single copy of the Bible given by a concerned Christian had done its work because the villagers wrote in the table of their hearts, thus, committed to their memory the Word of God. What a peaceful village could it be! Let us pray then, with David, that we are determined to hide God’s Word in our hearts and live a life that is peaceable and victorious over sin (Psalm 119:11).
4. Listen to an audio Bible. A good way to redeem the time is to listen to Scripture while in the car, or doing household chores like cooking or washing. This is a good way to delight yourself in the law of the Lord as Psalm 1 teaches. 5. Pray to God for help. Pray to God for guidance. Pray to God for understanding and a deeper love for His Word. Psalm 119:33, “Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end.” Pray for illumination, God will answer! 6. Have a plan with goals. Good intentions without a proper plan are often a recipe for failure. Make a list for yourself of verses or themes you want to memorize and then set a date for memorization. 7. Find software to help on King James Bible Scripture memorization. There’s an App for that! There are many websites and programs that can help you memorize Scriptures by providing plans and tools for your aid. 8. Put it to song. Putting the Bible to song or listening to music filled with
King James biblical lyrics is a useful way to internalize the Word of God. 9. Always be on the lookout. While studying and listening to Scriptures and sermons, be on the lookout for good verses and passages to memorize, and write them down! 10. Read out loud/Write it out. It is one of the methods for memorization that works the best because it combines two learning styles (visual and auditory). Writing out the Scriptures is another great way to memorize verses because it targets to learning styles as well (visual and tactile). Make sure you know what the verse is actually saying in context before memorizing it. Don’t forget to memorize the reference. This helps in your own personal study and while sharing with others. Think about how you can apply the verse to your life and then pray for God’s help in applying it. “Use it or lose it!” Review what you’ve memorized from time to time to keep God’s Word fresh in your life. -Excerpts from unlockingthebible.org
My God, let me hide Your word in my heart Beata B. Agustin

t has been said that “Memory makes rich the mind by preserving all the results of our study and learning.” In a very real sense, it is true that all other faculties of the human mind are useless without memory. Each man's memory is his private literature. In parallel, of all the disciplines of a person's life, it can be said that Scripture memorization is absolutely the most fundamental to spiritual formation. It is filling our mind with what is beneficial and necessary that would consequently outpour to the words that we speak...”This book of the law shalt not depart out of thine mouth...”-Joshua 1:8 No other single exercise yields much greater spiritual dividends than Scripture memorization. Prayer life is strengthened. Witnessing is sharper and much more effective. Attitudes and outlooks change for the better. Mind becomes alert and observant. Confidence and assurance are enhanced and faith is solidified. One of the reasons why Martin Luther, during his early years, came to a realization that true Salvation comes from the Person of Jesus Christ alone is because he digested the Word of God in a day when all of his contemporaries were busy earning Theology Doctorate degrees without appropriately immersing themselves in the Bible. Luther knew so much of the Bible from memory, thus preparing him for the great work presented to him. Romans 1:17 declared, “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith.” When tempted by Satan in the wilderness, our Lord Jesus Christ recited Scripture from memory and caused Satan to depart from Him as depicted in Matthew 4:1-11, “...But he answered and said, It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God...Jesus said unto him, It is written again,Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God...” We become what we constantly dwell upon. As implied in 2 Corinthians 3:18, “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the
Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by thy Spirit of the Lord;” and 1 Samuel 3:21, “...for the Lord revealed himself...by the word of the Lord,” Bible memorization has the effect of making our gaze on Jesus steadier and clearer...and henceforth inciting a change within and through us. God's Word hidden in our hearts cleanses and clears us from sin as read in Psalm 119:9 and 11. The Apostle Paul has said in Romans 8:13 that we must “...mortify the deeds of the body...” by taking Ephesians 6:17, “...the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God.” Though sin lures the body, heart, and mind, heart-kept Scriptures slay the temptations with the superior worth and beauty of Christ over what sin offers. There would be times when comforting, consoling, and counselling people we love and minister to may require the very Word of God spoken spontaneously from our heart with an extraordinary power. Proverbs 25:11 inspires us, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” There would be times when communicating the Gospel to unbelievers comes in the most unusual of ways. Actual verses of the Bible have their own penetrating power and when they come from our heart as well as from the Book, the shining testimony is given that they are precious enough to learn and memorize. The Psalmist in Chapter 34:8 exclaimed, “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Chapter 119:103 further emphasizes, “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth.” Scripture memorization is communing with God in the enjoyment of His Person and ways. Storing Scriptural texts in our minds helps us relate to God as He really is. It is expressing to Him our thankfulness, admiration and love, and seeking His help to enable us to live a life that reflects the value of His glory. Amen!
My God, let me hide Your word in my heart for my daily sanctification That I may not displease You with my display of transgression. Keep rebuking me thru Your laws’ admonition In correcting me from perversion’s intervention… Thank You for cleansing my sins by Your purification! My God, let me hide Your word in my heart for my joyful faithfulness That I may not ignore You with my expression of haughtiness. Keep radiating to me Your testimonies’ brightness In driving me from infidelity’s mischievousness… Thank You for upholding my loyalty by Your steadfastness! My God, let me hide Your word in my heart for my complete dependence That I may not doubt You with my lack of confidence. Keep bracing me up along Your Scriptures’ evidence In admonishing me from unbelief’s impudence… Thank You for strengthening my faith by Your credence! My God, let me hide Your word in my heart for my grateful sincerity That I may not insult You with my air of superiority. Keep teaching me around Your testament’s immutability In training me from humanism’s subtlety… Thank You for transforming my personality by Your divinity! My God, let me hide Your word in my heart for my spiritual endeavor That I may not dishonor You with my taste of carnality-savor. Keep conquering me toward Your statutes’ fervor In driving me from earthliness’ flavor … Thank You for answering my prayers by Your favor! My God, let me hide Your word in my heart for my good success That I may not disobey You with my act of hypocritical sacrifices. Keep instructing me according to Your precepts’ verses In perfecting me from selfishness’ services … Thank You for enabling my victory by Your resources!
