MOTORCADE
G
OD’S POWER geared up the Church toward its triumphant 35th Anniversary celebration. Evident in the success were the members’ dedicated involvement and willing participation. Along with that, they supported all the church activities in preparation to the said event. On February 17 and 18, the scheduled round-the- clock prayer vigil was well-attended by members from different areas. On February 19, the Lord’s Supper reminded the members of the love, faithfulness and forgiveness of God; as well as Jesus Christ’s death on the cross for our redemption. On February 20, the Revival Meeting through the preaching of Dr. Larry Clayton exhorted the believers to love God above all, and chal-
lenged them to forsake idolatry. On February 21, soulwinners in every area did their best in sharing the good news of salvation. On February 22, the motorcade created great impact among the neighborhood, on the streets, along the highways, and in the communities as the Gospel is declared publicly and gospel tracts and invitation pamphlets are distributed. Indeed, the anniversary preparations paved a way for wonderful soulwinning endeavors, fruitful campus evangelistic pursuits, fervent prayer and supplication moments, persevering invitation and visitation deeds, and generous giving experiences, all by the grace of God, and tfor His glory.
REVIVAL MEETING
Heart of Servitude or Slavery?
I
“As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.”-1 Peter 2:16 1. A servant is willing but a slave is either compelled or coerced to do the task. 2. A servant is free but a slave is still in bondage. 3. In the early times, servants were workers that were paid and rewarded; slaves were not paid but owned. 4. Servants could quit if and when they desired; slaves could not. 5. Servants could have more than one job; slaves solely worked for their master. 6. To both Romans and Greeks, in the New Testament times, making a living as a servant was one thing, but to be a slave was a fate worse than death. 7. Servants had identity and autonomy whereas slaves had no right to personal preference and individual choice. Today, God definitely wants us to have a servant’s heart.
"But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:" Philippians 2:7
N THE LATE 1800S in one of D.L. Moody’s Bible Conferences in Massachusetts, there came a large group of European pastors. Following European custom of their time, each pastor put his shoes outside his room to be cleaned by the hall servants overnight. However, there were no hall servants in America. During the night, as Moody was walking down the hallway, he saw the shoes and resolved to delight his brothers. He brought up the need for assistance from some other ministers who were there, but he was met with only silence and pious excuses. Moody returned to the hallway and gathered the shoes. Alone in his room, the world’s famous evangelist began to clean and polish the shoes. Only the unexpected arrival of a friend in the midst of the work revealed the secret. When the foreign visitors opened their doors the next morning, their shoes were shined. They never know by whom. Moody told no one, but his friend told a few people, and during the rest of the conference, different men volunteered to shine the shoes in secret. Servanthood begins in the mind and heart, hence, Apostle Paul encourages us to have the Christlike mind (Phil 2:5) to capture the form of a servant. Christ’s incarnation brought a qualified sense of subjection, such that from His birth, down to His ministry, and until His death, He showed that He “came not to be ministered unto, but to minister,” Mark 10:45. He emptied Himself to make the way through the cross for the salvation of men. In Christianity, being called a servant shall never humiliate us. As we put ourselves under the dominion of our sole Master, let us learn the ways of “forgetting those things which are behind,” Phil 3:13, because servants are not position-conscious. When we start to think about the achievement we had in the past and the titles that we gained, then, we will stop realizing the essence of bowing down to the need of reaching others for the fulfilment of their life in Christ. A servant is not promotion-driven, for he knows that the greatest commendation is the Lord’s “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” Matt 25:21. He keeps a motive of not pleasing men but God. As he advances to the Kingdom by multiplying more people like him, the only person exalted is the Lord Jesus Christ, Who Himself has glorified the Father by taking the form of a servant. It does not take too much to be called a servant. The Lord can be glorified through the church (Eph 3:20). As we involve and serve through the ministry, we learn to take off our titles at work and academic honours in school. As we continue to share the Gospel with others and compel them to come to church for our communal worship, the servant heart has been exhibited. For every servant’s heart’s effort exerted in line with our 35th Church Anniversary, to God be the glory!
THE BLESSINGS OF DISCIPLESHIP
I
THANK GOD for saving me and my family, and for leading us to a local Bible-believing Baptist Church. I also thank the Lord for Dr. Ed M. Laurena and the CBBC family for allowing us to be a part of this great church whose main aim is to fulfill the Great Commission. Truly, this Church has a great influence in our lives in the area of discipleship that has challenged us to involve in different ministries. It is my honor and privilege to serve the Lord Who has counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry. It is likewise my joy to impart His truth to others also. I Tim1:12; II Tim. 2:2.
“He must increase, but I must decrease.” - John 3:30
H
UMANLY SPEAKING, our inflated ego does not want to decrease, it desires to increase. It has an insatiable appetite to be the prominent one. This is why the average person feels appalled at the thought of being called a servant. Servanthood is always associated with the menial work of slaves and bondmen, the slavery mentality. Where servants are co-laborers with God, slaves on the other hand are people who are in still in bondage. In the face of an important position as the forerunner of the promised Messiah, John the Baptist readily recognized his place when our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ emerged from obscurity to fulfil the promised salvation. In John 1, he answered the establishment committee that, “I am not the Christ...I am the voice of the one crying in the wilderness...make straight the way of the Lord as saith the prophet Esias...” John the Baptist knew that his work with its purpose was not about him. It was about the Lord Jesus Christ and the fulfillment of God's redemptive plan to man. Christ must increase, and he must decrease. This is the essence of servanthood. Servanthood is thinking far less about ourselves and far more about Jesus and others. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Philippians 2:3, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; …let each esteem other better than themselves.” Servanthood is being less interested in materialistic possessions and more interested in eternal rewards, as stressed in Matthew 6:19, ” Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.” Proverbs 13:7 says “...There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.” For we brought nothing into this world, and it is
certain we can carry nothing out. Servanthood is being less competitive and more cooperative. The Scripture says in 1 Corinthians 10:31, ”Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” If what we are really doing is for the glory of God, it does not really matter who gets the credit as long as the Lord is glorified. The less we compete, the more we rejoice that the Lord is also using others for His work and that the Lord's work is being done. We are not here to make a name for ourselves. Let us not commit the same mistake done by the proponents of the tower of Babel when they said in Genesis 11:4, ”…let us build us a city and a tower,…and let us make us a name…” Servanthood is being less concerned about drawing crowds to oneself and more concerned about drawing crowds for the Lord Jesus Christ. Great crowds follow the Lord Jesus Christ but crowds do not constitute a church. Servanthood requires followership and discipleship. In the Parable about the Great Supper, the servants compelled people to come and later when the Lord Jesus Christ drew the multitude to Himself, He spoke to them about developing a supreme love for the Lord. Servanthood is being less consumed with what we want to do and more completely consumed with what God wants us to do. Jesus Christ spoke in John 8:29, “... for I do always those things that please him.” The world is in dire need of God's choicest servants who will do what God wants them to do. It is worth examining our heart of servitude. Servanthood is not a demeaning task. It is recognizing that Jesus Christ must not only be prominent but must also have the preeminence. A servant’s heart abides in the great Lord and Master Jesus Christ and is not wallowing in the pit of slavery. Let us make a servant’s heart out of slavery.

2005 The charge, “Press toward the Mark,” propelled CBBC this year. On the first week of January, the Church hosted the Fresh Start Pastors’ and Workers’ Conference. An evangelistic service on the last night brought an estimated 18,000 visitors flooding the auditoriums, classrooms and the subdivision street. This encouraged many pastors and preachers to do fervent soulwinning in their respective church areas. A twostorey house formerly rented as the College Men’s Dormitory was also acquired. The “Seven-Stage Discipleship Program” was launched to feed spiritually the growing number of converts more systematically. The Anniversary attendance was 15,990. The average attendance was 2,214. The total number of FTVs was 38,946, while that of baptisms was 1,726. Hernandez Building,” in memory of Pastor Fortunato Hernandez, the faithful “Filipino Baptist Patriarch” and the father-in-law of Dr. Ed. Likewise, the edifice which used to be the Pastor’s house in front of the New Building has been under renovation for a three-story building that will serve as an extension of the CBBC Auditorium. The Anniversary attendance was 15,769. Average attendance was 2,650. The total number of FTVs was 26,949, and that of baptisms was 2,272.

In September, emphasis was put on winning the lost to Christ as CBBC held its Stewardship Conference Soulwinning Clinic. CBBC Mission in Bulacan through the leadership of Pastor Cris Santiago was organized as a church on May 27.
2009 CBBC heralded the year with its “Back to Basics” stand along with a trailblazing Soulwinning Conference hosted by Evangelist Dr. Mike Wells of Ocean Springs, Missouri. Prophetic Revivals with Dr. Larry Clayton were held in preparation for the month-long 30th Church Anniversary Celebration. God indeed showed His power and grace when 20,166 FTVs came. In April, Leadership Conference was held as well as the National Baptist Youth Convention 10 with the theme “Making A Difference.” In June, four CBBC preachers were ordained as “Reverends.” The mission work in Tanza, Cavite under Pastor Rey Baugan was organized into a church on May 5. In September, “Project Nehemiah -The Vision Unfolds” was launched as the perspective of the New 3-storey Building was presented to the Church. In December, two new areas were added and the two morning services officially started.
2007 CBBC adopted “Expand Our Horizon” as its year’s slogan. Another property at the back of the Ladies’ Dormitory was purchased. The first batch of graduates of the “Seven Stage Discipleship Program” was presented as disciplers. Attendance reached its highest record of 3,009 on a regular Sunday morning service on November 4, 2007. CBBC expanded in its ministries, missions and properties. The CBBC-Mission in Bauan, Batangas was organized as a church under Pastor Ed dela Peña. The blue print of the Baptist City was presented to the Church and members prayed for its realization. Other ministry highlights of the year included the airing of the first television and radio broadcast, the Old Baptist Voice. The following were the recorded significant church figures: Anniversary attendance – 14,766; Average attendance – 2,667; Total FTVs – 22,346; Total Baptisms – 2,134.
2011 Family Camp
2010 The entire Church family followed in stride with the prayer, “Revive Us Again in 2010.” The Lord gave the Church 14,685 FTVs in a month-long 31st Anniversary Celebration. The Church held a feeding program on March 12, and 200 precious kids were fed physically and spiritually. More children, as well as their families, were reached through the two weeks of Daily Vacation Bible School held in the month of May. It recorded a total of 2,564 professions of faith. The Church’s average attendance also continued to grow and reached 2,869. The total number of first time visitors was 22, 224 and that of baptisms was 1,502. The Taiwan Outreach in Kaohsiung produced two other outreaches in Jhong-Li and Tai-chung. Meanwhile, CBBC sent-out a preacher to start an outreach in Singapore. Furthermore, the mission work in Davao was organized as a Church in December.
2011 With the theme “Victorious Christian Living,” the Lord has guided the Church monthly with faith-strengthening Sunday School lessons. The Medical Missions Outreach team headed by Dr. Bradley Edmondson paved way for 1,600 professions of faith in the event alone and enhanced invitation efforts for the 32nd Church Anniversary. The anniversary event produced 10,608 FTVs. CBBC mission in Tanauan, Batangas under Rev. Oliver America had its Church organization on February 25. The Discipleship program celebrated its eighth Commencement exercises with the aim to multiply God-enabled disciplers. Likewise, one of the Church’s ministry outreaches under the Moral Recovery program in the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) celebrated its first year. In December, the church enjoyed a family camp in Rizal Re-creation Center. As the year ended, the Pastor enjoined the efforts of the homebuilders in dawn-watch for prayer and thanksgiving, which is a wonderful act of worship to the Lord of the work.
2012 The very first day of the New Year was welcomed with a Church Service, setting the mood to be attuned more than ever to God. The year’s challenge was for each individual in the church family to be “Resolved to Involve.” To emphasize more than ever the need to equip church ministry workers, CBBC hosted the National Pastors and Workers Conference with the theme “Back to Basic.” The year was also greeted with divided Sunday School classes for the Adults, and the exclusive evening Sunday School fellowships. For the 33rd Anniversary, around 8,000 precious First Time Visitors filled the CBBC facilities on February 19 and 26 to hear the true Gospel that only Jesus saves. Likewise, the year has launched “Couples’ Revival” in an effort to boost the homebuilders for godly parenting and relationship build¬ing. With the eventful flurry of activities, 2012 has been a toiling, triumphing and thriving year for the Church family. 2013 It is definitely God’s abiding presence that CBBC continues to be an emblem of God’s great glory. Being the “Year of Continuing,” this year opened with the 34th Anniversary preparations through a round-the-clock prayer vigil and Lord’s Supper partaking. On January 20 and 27, almost 7,000 professions of faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ were recorded. In February, the Single Parents and Couples’ Fellowship was successfully held. On March 26-28, 1.476 souls were won to the Lord through an evangelistic crusade in Bicol. NBYC 14 was hosted in April while a Soulwinning Conference was set in May along with the Daily Vacation Bible School. Likewise, the Outreach in Bangkok, Thailand had its first service. Furthermore, the “Men Mentoring Men” leadership session was started for fathers. On August 25, Dr. Ed launched the Nehemiah Project for the construction of a new church auditorium. On that same Sunday, the Church celebrated Dr. Ed’s blessed 40 years in the ministry. Meanwhile, a lot in Bicol was purchased for the church’s camp site.
2014 By God’s grace, through His power, and for His glory, CBBC gears toward its 35th Anniversary in endeavoring to triumph in “Making Disciples,” knowing that it is its commitment to help fulfill the Great Commission while exalting the Savior, edifying the saints, and evangelizing the sinners.
