I am excited as we enter the month of March and tackle another interesting topic, “Leading Others to Christ and Winning Souls.” A love for God’s Word will definitely give you a burden for the lost souls. It is already a great thing to be a child of God, but there is more to it. It is not just about being saved from the penalty of sin in hell, but more so in sharing with others how to be saved. I encourage every member to learn and love the ministry of winning souls. It is not a gift given to some members but a responsibility everyone must accept. I am a product of soul winning and so is every individual believer. Churches are being established and growing because there are Christians who enjoy sharing the Gospel of salvation. I challenge you to join our soulwinning program and I assure you that such will absolutely bring more joy in your Christian life. As I preach for the Anniversary of our Taiwan outreach today, I pray that God will give us all a great Sunday!

BYF Retreat: A Victory!

ne good thing about this Church is its wise use of time. Last February 25, high school students, college and working men and ladies gathered for the annual Baptist Youth Fundamentalist Retreat held in Calamba. Around 160 young people were divided into seven groups, respectively named after virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, kindness and charity. The event kicked-off with a morning devotion by Rev. Meljun Laurena. Then, before the noon heated up as the weather began to be favourable for swimming, the assembly was charged by our dear pastor, Dr. Ed Laurena, to do all to the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31). Exciting group games followed after the lunch fellowship; and not to mention, the wacky picture taking for a remembrance. Surely, everyone went home refreshed, revived and rejoicing for how great God is! All glory be to His name!

ur world today is full of weak, if not broken homes. Sadly, even Christian homes are not exempted of being such. Thank God for Christian Bible Baptist Church which continually aims to exhort and to teach Christians to build and strengthen their homes! With the theme, “Building Strong Christians Homes,” CBBC held a successful Single Parents and Couples’ Fellowship last February 25, 2013 at the Pacita Astrodome having 187 attendees. Special recognitions were given to the oldest and the youngest couple, the longest-running and the recently-married couple. Inspiring testimonies were also given by Bro. Bryan and Sis. Phoebe Carmona as well as Bro. Nards and Sis. Ludy Otic. They all shared how God changed their lives and worked in their marriages through the Church. The guest speaker, Rev. Dante de Leon, used the life example of the New Testament couple, Aquila and Priscilla in Romans 16:1-5. The message on how this couple was always mentioned together, expressed their unity especially in serving God, helping the man of God, and extending to their home the church of God. After being challenged by the preaching of God’s Word, and being filled with a sumptuous meal, the couples sincerely followed to a renewing of vows. It was a covenant of faithfulness and love - first and foremost to God, and secondly to each other. With this, CBBC is looking forward to having more Christian homes strengthened and more CBBC couples involved in serving God, and eventually, giving an impact to their communities and to the world! To God be the glory!

We Must Share the Gospel Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962), the world-famous violinist, earned a fortune with his concerts and compositions, but he generously gave most of it away. So, when he discovered an exquisite violin on one of his trips, he wasn’t able to buy it. Later, having raised enough money to meet the asking price, he returned to the seller, hoping to purchase the beautiful instrument. But to his great dismay it had been sold to a collector. Kreisler made his way to the new owner’s home and offered to buy the violin. The collector said it had become his prized possession and he would not sell it. Keenly disappointed, Kreisler was about to leave when he had an idea. “Could I play the instrument once more before it is consigned to silence?” he asked. Permission was granted, and the great virtuoso filled the room with such heart-moving music that the collector’s emotions were deeply stirred. “I have no right to keep that to myself,” he exclaimed. “It’s yours, Mr. Kreisler. Take it into the world, and let people hear it.” The Christian has no right to keep the Gospel to himself. He must share it with those around him.

Timothy Stackpole was a New York Firefighter, who was severely burned in a 1998 fire. After he recovered, he returned to the force despite the advice of some friends and family and the fact that he could retire comfortably. He was a great fire fighter and passionate about his work and was soon promoted to captain. Timothy was one of the fire fighters that ran into the second tower to try to save some people. When he did, it collapsed and took his life. Despite of the given opportunity to him to retire, he still continued because he knew his calling—to rescue people.

On February 3, 1943, a troop ship named The Dorchester was carrying more than nine hundred soldiers and military personnel across the North Atlantic. A German U-boat spotted the convoy and fired three torpedoes at the ship. Only one struck the target, but the blast below the waterline fatally damaged the ship. In the cold darkness, the crew was ordered to abandon ship. There were not enough lifeboats for all the men, nor were there enough life jackets. Four chaplains aboard the ship that night helped comfort those injured in the explosion and those who feared the coming of death. When the ship was ready to sink, the chaplains took off their life jackets and handed them to four young soldiers who had none. They gave up their own lives in order to save others. The heroic gesture inspired a nation, and Congress voted a special posthumous medal in their honor. Most of us are not called upon to physically lay down our lives, but there are many people who need our help. People all around us who don’t know the Lord need us to give them the Gospel.
