from your

Pastor

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power…” (Revelation 4:12). These are our praise-filled heart-felt words of gratitude to God that we can express for the victory that He has wrought in the recently-concluded National Baptist Youth Conference 16 which our Church hosted. We truly thank God for the almost 300 delegates who responded to the call, charge, command and challenge of the Lord through His Word in the occasion’s various preachings, divided sessions and group devotions. Indeed, we praise the Lord for the precious young people who committed themselves to do God’s will with sincerity, submission, and surrender. Meanwhile, I am “…bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth” (II Thessalonians 1:3). Your prayer, cooperation, support, and contribution for this great youth event and for your Area young people delegates are not in vain in the Lord. Likewise, I commend those who did their part and role in the said activity’s different

working teams such as the kitchen, registration, program, accommodation, security, physical arrangements, security, and maintenance. As your Pastor, I am blessed to see our young people involving in the work of the Lord, as I am inspired to work with faithful members who are willingly participating in the advancement of God’s kingdom. Together, let us continually be steadfast in our belief in the Lord, as we abound in the faith that God has granted us by His grace and power. This week is again an opportunity for us to serve the Lord by winning souls and ministering to others. We must then make ourselves available for our “Church-Wide Soulwinning Day and Ministry-Involvement Night on April 9. As Christ’s church, let us be one in fulfilling His Great Commission, while we joyfully “…Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness” (Psalm 150:1-2).

Baccalaureate Worship Service For PNPA Baptist Cadets Lakandula Class 2015 Successfully Held On March 24, 2015, the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Baptist Cadets Ministry of CBBC held a Baccalaureate Worship Service for the graduating Baptist Cadets who are members of PNPA Lakandula Class 2015 at Camp General Mariano Castañeda, Silang, Cavite. Pastor Ed M. Laurena who was accompanied by Dr. Peter Mordh talked to the cadets especially the graduating class on the Book of 1 Corinthians 13. Pastor Ed further challenged them on “HOPE, FAITH and CHARITY” based on the PNPA’s Motto “JUSTICE, INTEGRITY and SERVICE.” Some of the cadets gave their testimony and expressed their gratitude to the church where they came to know God through its ministry at the Academy. They especially thanked God for their salvation and the blessings they received from Him. They also praised God for His power and guidance that upheld them amidst the hardships they encountered in their training. Dr. Ed further motivated the graduating class to keep on with their faith, to be faithful to God and to serve the people and our country faithfully for the honor and glory of our great God. Our Pastor also encouraged them to be on guard always, to be steadfast and to continue staying on the winning side, geared up by God’s Word and wisdom as they climb the ladder of their career for the devil is always on the watch ready to devour.

Likewise, our Pastor administered the Turn-over Ceremony of the Baptist Cadets. The outgoing Cadet-In-Charge Cadet 1Cl Julius Dinsay turned over his position to the incoming Cadet-In-Charge Cadet 2Cl Jose Angeles Bandong II, a son of General who got saved through the Church’s Ministry there and was baptized here at CBBC City of San Pedro. Now Police Inspector Dinsay charged his successor Cdt 2Cl Bandong to make good and improve the legacy they left wherein the latter in his assumption message affirmed his commitment as he took over the leadership.

especially to God for all the blessings and his achievements.

On the other hand, the Church’s Ministry at the PNPA is so blessed to have as member of the congregation the Top 1 (Valedictorian) of the PNPA Lakandula Class 2015, Cdt 1Cl now Police Inspector Dennis Monroid Yuson Jr. In his Valedictory address on March 26, 2015 before the great crowd and the presence of the President of the Philippines HE Benigno S. Aquino III during the graduation rites, he gave thanks to the Baptist Congregation for his spiritual growth and guidance and most 03

BHBC 26th Commencement Exercises Gloriously Held Twenty-eight members of the graduating class marched down the aisle of the church auditorium last April 1, Wednesday, the third night of the National Baptist Youth Convention 16. Before the faculty, alumni, guests and the rest of the assembly, these students gratefully presented themselves to have accomplished the requirements of the respective courses they have taken by the grace of God. Nine (9) were granted the degree in Certificate in Bible Education (CBE), 17 in Graduate in Theology (GIT) and 2 in Diploma in Christian Education (DCE). The lively singing and attentive listening manifested the exciting spirit of the crowd. The special numbers “Long Live the Baptist Faith” rendered by the BHBC alumni men’s double quartet and “My Faith Still Holds” sung by Missionary Flor Solomon stirred the hearts of everyone prior to the Charge to the Graduates which was the most essential part of the program. Dr. Gil M. Laurena, one of the pioneer graduates of BHBC, preached on Galatians 6:17, with the message entitled “Bearing the Marks of BHBC.” He challenged the graduating batch to keep the standards of performance; hence, carrying the banners of which BHBC is well acknowledged for – the King James Bible as the only Bible acceptable, the obedience to the man of God and the training in all aspects of personality. He had himself for an example, how he regards Dr. Ed M. Laurena not just his elder brother but his mentor and trainer in this institution; thus, realizing that his calling was made known through him. There was also a remarkable note that there is nothing to boast of after

04

graduation. “Abounding in Faith” as the theme of the occasion suggests that the graduates must abound in training, not on fire only during college but more so in the actual field work. As a response, the newly proclaimed graduates sang before the congregation the theme song whose words they, themselves crafted, and music composed by Steffie Alivia. It highlights the theme’s supporting verse, 1 Corinthians 15:58. After that spiritual boost, awarding took place. Eleven individuals from the College Preparatory Course accepted their Certificate of Recognition for fulfilling the one-year long preparatory curriculum set to

enter the GIT course. Students who also excelled in presenting their talents during the Literary and Music Festival last March 24 received their rewards. Special Awards, on the other hand were granted to those who have shown exemplary character and so such were cited as Best in Conduct and Most Improved Students. During the awarding for academic excellence, it is good to note that many adult students successfully proved the young ones that they can still do more for the Lord. Mrs. Emelita Turrecha, Mr. Rey and Mrs. Angie Toreja, Mr. Jun and Mrs. Jean Tagbo garnered averages acceptable to obtain honors in the CBE course continued on page 05...

BHBC Foundation Day and Alumni Fellowship Preluded NBYC 16 On its second year now, the BHBC Foundation Day served as an introduction to the most awaited young people’s event of the year, National Baptist Youth Convention. The fair day of March 30, Monday, started with the Marathon Preaching participated in by two graduating students and two fourth year students from Baptist Heritage Bible College. The program hosted by Rev. Jess Sibug, BHBC Alumni President, invited not just the alumni and the students of the same institution but also the delegates who came early for the big event. A special number by the men’s quartet from Conquerors Group of the BHBC College Choir helped the assembly to settle their hearts to listen to the many messages God had in store for them that morning. Bro. William Alvrich Mirasol began the preaching run with his message entitled “Abounding in Faith” taken from Hebrews 11:1,6. He explained that we believers need to abound in the faith because we have to please God, to prove God and to be perfect (mature) through God. Shortly after him was Bro. Ramil Guardian who challenged the listeners to “Remember the Old Paths,” supported by his text verse Jeremiah 6:16. In remembering though, there has to be a stand, a commitment and a promise of calmness. By careful listening to these first two preachers, there was really great encouragement already, more so when the last preachers came. However, prior to their message deliveries was another men’s quartet; this time from the Victors Group. The ladies and men present were all the

more stirred up to hear God’s Word through Bro. Jerahmeel Cueto who entitled his preaching with the catchy “Now and Forever.” He charged that as God’s called, one must serve the Lord; he must survive because God provides, and he must be satisfied with the Lord. Meanwhile, the final message was given by Bro. Jether Reyna who personally addressed the faithful alumni and students who serve the Lord through various church ministries. Inspired by 2 Timothy 2:3-4 he gave a message which title was driven from the song “Keep on the Firing Line.” He encouraged the workers to keep on because of the wounded Christian soldiers, the next generation that needs to be trained, and the nation that needs to be saved. It was a tremendous blessing and an important learning that not only renowned preachers can be used of God, but these aspiring servants, too. Following such event was the Alumni Lunch Fellowship held at the ground floor of the Old Buidling. Almost 150 ladies and men testified of God’s faithfulness in BHBC as they

Remarkable sacrifice, however, were hailed as mothers like Elisa Vidal (CBBC-Los Banos), Edelyn Banaga (preacher’s wife, CBBC-Dasmarinas Outreach), Myrna Nuestro and Belinda Abinoman (CBBC-Bauan), and Maryrose Buizon (CBBCCSP) wore their respective medals for their best performances in studies. Surely, they were appreciative enough to say that it was God who made it possible for them to continue in BHBC. Moreover, Ramil Guardian and William Alvrich Mirasol received the highest possible recognition a graduating student

joined their hearts in a couple of hours of singing, reminiscing and praising God for another fruitful year for their Alma Mater. Pastor Oliver America, however, exhorted this year’s theme of the gathering “Keep the Faith.” With 2 Tim 4:7-10’s context, he made Apostle Paul a pattern as to how they should fight well without leaving off the faith which was entrusted to them as pastors, preachers, preacher’s wives, teachers, and workers in God’s vineyard. He accentuated the value of continued study of the Word of God, and the great help by the grace of God. Financial updates were then reported and projects were upheld to be accomplished to aid in the improvement of BHBC Library. The President of the College, Dr. Ed Laurena was happy to see batches represented as far as 1992 until the recent 2014 graduates. He cannot but express how thankful he is to see more works opening for the furtherance of the Great Commission which is the main essence of the BHBC’s ministry. To God be the glory!

can achieve. They have blessed the Lord and the crowd with their blissful testimonies of salvation, surrender and service. For a finale, the student body rendered the heartpounding Alma Mater song which bears the emblem of the college. Dr. Ed was very thankful to the Lord for the 26 batches, and over 300 graduates produced by BHBC. More so, he addressed the NBYC participants that God can work in their hearts to be a soon-part of the next graduating classes. For all that the Lord is doing in this fruitful ministry, glory be only to HIM! 05

Plea for Blessings

And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. - Genesis 32:26 When God blesses his people, he bestows on them some gifts which may be temporal or spiritual. Abraham’s servant described the bountiful material blessings his master obtained from God, “And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses. (Gen 24:35)” Solomon, in his installation as a king in his father’s stead, was assured by God of immeasurable intangible blessings, “… I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. (1 Kings 3:12)” The testimonies of these great men from the Bible speak of God’s sure capacity to bless his dearly beloved. Jacob pleaded for blessings before he let go of the angel who wrestled with him until break of day. As Christians, before everything starts in our daily routine, it is essential that we stir ourselves up by earnest prayer and supplication to the Lord. Such time of encounter had been Jacob’s moment of sincere speaking to God, that out of the remarkable contending, he obtained many blessings. POWER WITH GOD. The struggle between Jacob and the angel continued long; but Jacob knew it was God because He alone is able to disjoint his thigh by only one touch (verse 25). His importunity for blessings was granted and manifested as God changed his name from Jacob (which means “that supplants, undermines”) to Israel who is a prince with God. He shall bear that might in prayer and power with men. Every person who believes in God shall have the power through His Spirit dwelling in the believer. Our faith in Him enables us to do more for Him. Aiming for one soul a day requires tremendous power and it can only

the name of the place to Peniel which means face to face with God. Blessings flow through to those who acknowledge that God is behind every accomplishment he may have in life.

come from a sincere meeting with the Lord early in the morning. PRESERVATION OF LIFE. The angel refused to give his name when Jacob asked of it in verse 29. This is to protect Jacob from boasting about the conquest. It is always man’s tendency to be proud of his accomplishments and then later sees that “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. (Prov 16:18)” By this, the man Israel gave glory to God by changing

PEACE WITH THE BRETHREN. Following shortly in Genesis chapter 33 is Jacob’s reconciliation with twin brother Esau. Oh, what a scene was that when “Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept. (Gen 33:4)” Bearing that power with God, Israel gained the favor of winning back his brother whom he deceived long ago. Mended relationships are impossible if we will not entrust everything to God who is the Author and Finisher of our faith (Heb 12:2). Let us always remember that blessings are meant to make us joyful, so then, material things which perish after a while are but the lowest forms of blessings. Let us learn to ask God for more love for things which shall count for eternity: love for Him and love for those whom He loves – the souls of men. By then, we will not just be recipient of blessings but also giver of blessings but reciprocating the glory to God! 09

May Personalan Ba?

Sa buhay ni Propetang Elijah na nakatala sa 1 Kings 19:12, “And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”, ang Panginoon ay nangusap sa mahina at mapayapang boses. Ang anumang pagtugon sa Salita ng Diyos ay ebidensya ng katuwiran o pagsalangsang, “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.”-1 John 3:7.

10

sa atin sa pananampalataya ay nasa ating Maka-Diyos na patotoo, “For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.” Inusal sa 1 Peter 5:4, “And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.”

Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest : for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.”
