VOLUME 23 > ISSUE 14 > APRIL 07

I am thrilled as we start the second quarter of this year, after having been delighted by the blessings that God has given us last quarter. I am looking forward also to the unfolding of another set of blessings for our new monthly theme on “Lifting Christ in Our Worship.” It is a sad thought that many churches have misused worship by perverting its scriptural meaning and losing its real essence through their emotion-filled meetings and contemporary singing. Worship to others has become more of what they can offer God, rather than on how they can know God more. Truly, only God’s Word can remind us the right way of worship. Let us then enjoy this month’s theme, and understand what it really means and practice it in our lives. By this month also, many of our youth are done with their regular class schedule; thus, giving them much “spare” time. I encourage you to include much of it in serving God and involving in our church program. Read your Bible more, pass out some tracts, invite people to church, win souls, and participate in church summer activities. Satan is so eager to destroy our lives, by taking advantage of our schedule. Use it wisely; there is much to do for the Lord. I am in Taichung, Taiwan together with Ma’am Dhel, Anica, Matthew, Bro. Jess, Bro. Jun Garapan and Sis. Steffie for their third Anniversary. God gave us a blessed Lord’s Supper and Revival services this past week. Pray for many souls to be saved, as we pray for God’s working in your Sunday Services.

ometimes we overcomplicate the Christian life. We develop formulas, lists, and philosophies, all of which may be good and helpful; but there is an overriding purpose to our lives, and it’s quite simple—do all to the glory of God. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31 The word glorify means “to reveal or make clear.” In simple terms, you and I were created for the express purpose of showing or revealing God more clearly to others. By our lives and very existence He should be seen more clearly— even magnified—in others’ eyes. There is no higher motivation or purpose in all of life. What a different and contrasting purpose than what we see in modern-day culture. The message of the world is simply, “Glorify self!” The secular world idolizes mankind, magnifies the pleasure of man, and promotes the worship of self. Romans 1 describes the godless early Gentile world—a culture strikingly like our own. "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things." Romans 1:21–23 Today’s world’s system—from the educators, to the Hollywood producers, to the fashion designers, to the musicians—is not concerned with glorifying God at all. In fact, as a whole, they are “willingly…ignorant” of God (2 Peter 3:5). But for those of us who know God, who have received Christ, our hearts’ desire and purest passion should be to glorify Him—to make the Lord Jesus Christ more clearly known before men.

"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Revelation 4:11

When God’s Glory Motivates Us…

There is a difference in how we approach ministry when our highest motivation is God’s glory. Below are some earmarks of ministry carried out to the glory of God.

We strive for excellence.

Our God is excellent and worthy of our most excellent efforts. When His glory drives us, we dig deeper and strive to give Him our utmost in every area of life and service.

We live with integrity.

When we care about God’s glory, we strive for a deep level of authenticity in all of life, not just the visible aspects. God sees every part of our hearts and lives, and His glory calls us to absolute integrity and sincerity. His glory prohibits us from separating our lives into public and private—into ministry and non-ministry, holding each area to a different standard. God’s glory calls us to integrity.

We care about the details.

Remembering His glory changes how we handle the “insignificants.” God’s glory will motivate us to pay attention to details we might dismiss were it only our own names at stake. What’s “good enough” for me, may not be “good enough” for God’s glory.

We are willing to be consumed for Christ.

John the Baptist’s highest ambition was to expend his life for Christ’s glory. In John 3:30 he said, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John made Christ’s magnification his life mission, and he was satisfied by its completion. When God’s glory becomes our motive—our passion—it is a joy to expend our lives for Christ alone.

All to the Glory of God

What is your highest motivation? What drives you right now? When God examines your heart motives, does He find first and foremost a deep desire for His glory? You were created for His glory, and you’re never more fully alive than when you are living to bring Him glory. And He is never more fully pleased than when your life is truly glorifying to Him! paulchappell.com

A story is told of a famous violinist who was to perform at a concert hall of world renown. As he stood before the packed house that night and played his violin, he mesmerized the audience with his prowess and skill. As he lifted his bow off the string on his final note, the hall erupted with thunderous applause and he was given a standing ovation. He looked at the crowd for a moment and walked off the stage only to return to render an encore performance. To the amazement of the masses gathered there that night, his encore performance was even more beautiful and flawless than the first. He looked to the audience and left the stage for the second time, but was beckoned back by the deafening roar of the multitudes that once again stood to their feet in adulation. He gave yet another encore number, leaving the audience fumbling for words that could describe what their eyes and ears just experienced. This sequence was repeated several more times until finally this virtuoso of virtuosos finished his piece, looked to the audience, nodded his head and simply walked off the stage while the ferocious cheers could still be heard long after he exited. Reporters pressed outside the violinist’s dressing room, waiting to catch a word

from the man who had just given the performance of a lifetime. As he emerged from the small room, one reporter asked the question, “Sir, why did you give so many encore performances? You could have stopped after the first and everyone would have been amazed.” The violinist stopped and replied, “For the very first time in my career, my master, the one who taught me to play the violin, was in the audience. When I finished my performance, everyone stood except for one person. I played again, and everyone stood to applaud except for him. I continued to play. On the conclusion of the last encore I looked into the seats and I noticed that everyone, including my master, was standing and applauding. It was only then that I was satisfied that I had done a good job.” Christian, who are you living to please? Is your life focused on receiving the praises of men or are you striving to please your Master, Jesus Christ? The writer of Hebrews said in Heb. 12:2, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…” Let us keep our focus on Jesus Christ that we may be satisfied that we did a good job when we hear His words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…” - Selected

Christ Is All That Matters Joni Erickson Tada had a terrible accident that left her a quadriplegic. In spite of her physical limitations she became an accomplished author and artist. Over 25 years ago she married her husband, Ken. For her wedding she had planned to come down the center aisle in her motorized wheel chair. Just before her grand entrance she noticed two distressing problems. First, she had rolled over her beautiful gown and made a big grease spot and tear in it. Then, the flowers in her lap had slipped and had lodged between her leg and the chair. She was filled with disappointment, and then suddenly the doors to the auditorium opened, and she saw her husband to be. Here was the man who was committing his love and his life to her. Joni later said, “Once I saw Ken's face, all I could think of was him. Everything else— the people in the church, the flowers that were sitting a little askew on my lap, the fact that my dress didn't fall right because I was sitting in a wheelchair, the grease marks, the rip in my gown all of it paled in comparison.” When we worship Christ, He should be all that matters to us. - Selected

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
