Victorious Christian Living in our FOLLOWSHIP And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. 1 Samuel 15:22-23

OLLOW IS A SIMPLE WORD, yet its essence is a hard thing to do for so many Christians. Difficult as it seems, it can still be enjoyable when we will understand from God’s word that there are blessings that await us when we follow. On the other hand, there is a price to be paid when we do not follow. The fall of mankind was a result of not following God’s instruction in the Garden of Eden. However, salvation from the flood was experienced by Noah and his family when they learned to follow. As we continue in our theme this month about followership, may we have a decision to be followers of that which is right. Meanwhile, we will have a busy church summer schedule for the Lord; and I exhort you to participate. Last Friday, our School for the deaf and our Christian Academy held their Commencement Exercises. This week, our Bible College ministry, Baptist Heritage Bible College, will commemorate its 25th year of existence through their alumni retreat, banquet night and a BHBC night here in our church on Wednesday night. Then, National Baptist Youth Convention 12 will take place the week after. I encourage every youth of our church to be a part of this great week. Month of May will also be packed with the preparations for Vacation Bible School, the DVBS proper, and teaching musical instruments for the interested members. On top of all these is still our main thing, which is bringing lost souls to our Saviour. Our outreach in Kaohsiung, Taiwan is celebrating its 17th Anniversary today, so please pray that many souls will be saved as I minister to them. Said work started because one person was willing to follow God’s Word, which resulted now to many Filipinos getting saved and are happily serving God. It is really a joy and a blessing to serve and follow the Lord.

I. Following our parents proclaims the genuineness of our salvation and service to our great God. A. Obedience to God is the supernatural product of salvation. B. Obedience to God will never be replaced by any earthy position and possessions.

T was in 1982 when the need for teachers and preachers became inevitable. The Christian Baptist Church was then located in San Vicente, San Pedro, Laguna when its growth became evident and the field for training opened so wide. This situation gave the Pastor, Dr. Ed M Laurena, an idea, out of his desire to see young men and women surrendering their lives to the Lord. He started a mini-Bible Institute for Sunday school teachers and preachers. The classes were held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with four subjects, namely: Sunday School Teaching, Preaching, Soul-winning and Doctrine. The Pastor handled all these subjects with 17 attendees.

PAGE 04 | APRIL 10 | ACTS 29

In 1984, the church moved to St. Francis Homes II for a bigger number of worshipper bearing the name: Christian Bible Baptist Church. The mini-Bible Institute became Summer Bible Institute. This time the classes were held daily with three additional teachers, including the Pastor’s wife, Mrs. Delia H. Laurena. The Christian Bible Baptist Church formally organized the Bible College in 1986. It was formed with seven instructors and the nine students pursuing the course in Theology. The school survived through the normal course of life. Students come, students go depending on the mode of their “calling,” determination and perseverance. The problems became plenteous and the pains abounded, but the Pastor remained with his vision. April 23, 1990 marked the first graduation ceremony of the “Christian Bible Baptist Seminary” with eight successful candidates who marched to the tune of “The Fight is On”. The names of these men and lady will hold an important banner for the seminary as its first product. It is the hope of this Seminary to see its first batch of graduates waving their banners up, fighting for the cause of Christ. The Seminary has trodden rough roads on its way to full development. It has created a unique curriculum to fit to the purpose and its motto: “Enter to learn, go forth to serve”. Number of enrollees increased as a result of good reports. Lots of request prompted the officers/faculty to open a curriculum for evening classes leading to Certificate in Christian Education (CCE). This was formally offered in school year 1991-92.

s.y. 2010-2011

In September 1994, the name was changed to “Baptist Heritage Bible Seminary.” This was unanimously agreed upon with the aim of preserving and carrying forth the sound and true doctrines of the Bible. It has been observed that many so-called “Baptist Bible-believing” churches have fallen away from the truth. This Seminary will try to propagate the heritage from our great forefathers of faith through God’s grace. As an outset, the graduates of 1995 were charged with this passage: “Remove not the ancient landmark which thy fathers have set.” (Prov. 22:28) Although the Seminary, which turned to Baptist Heritage Bible College in 1997, has grown in size, it has always kept its original purpose to give students a well-rounded practical, biblical education. The Pastor and teachers had always been dedicated to building one’s life after our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In God’s great grace and mercy, the College will go on with its vision. It will continue to mold Christian soldiers for God’s divine battle. It will not cease to petition for more men and women who will surrender their lives for the furtherance of the Word of God: without removing the ancient landmark. Matagumpay na Pagsunod sa

PANGINOON by Sis. Beata Agustin

Four Reasons Christian Children Should Obey Their Parents

E

VERYWHERE we look we see bitterness, division and rebellion. Husbands and wives are divorcing, parents and kids are arguing, and employees aren't getting along with employers. In Ephesians 6, Paul offers a solution. Paul's solution is a new heart from God. Spiritual harmony begins in the loves of Christians. In chapter 6 of Ephesians Paul admonishes four groups of Christians about how they could have harmony in Christ and the first is Christian children. A lot of people blame video games and television for this generation's children being so screwed up but the truth is that we have rebellious kids because they are not in tune with God. There would be a lot more harmony if children obeyed their parents and in Ephesians chapter 6 Paul gives Christian children four reasons to obey their parents. 1. They are Christians. The first one is simple. If you are a Christian then you should act that way. When a child becomes a Christian it doesn't make them too good to have obligations. Children are still expected to do things around the house. In fact, children that are Christian should actually do even more around the house because his faith should make him a better child at home because it is well pleasing to the Lord. 2. Obedience is right. There is an order in nature, according to God, that says that we should be obedient. Since the parents brought he child into the world, and since they are wiser than the child, it is right that the child obeys his parents. 3. Obedience is commanded. The fifth of the Ten Commandments tells us to honor or mother and our father. Honoring your father and your mother means more than just obeying them though. Honoring your father and your mother means respecting them and love them. Honoring your parents mean taking care of them when they need you to. Honoring your parents mean that you should live in a way that it won't bring dishonor to the family. Even if your parents aren't believers then you should obey them. If you disobey them you won't be a good witness to them. 4. Obedience brings blessing. Many people only know the shortened version of the Ten Commandments and not the entire verse. The verse that says honor your mother and your father goes on to say, "that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee." This verse is saying that a Christian child will get two blessings. The first is that he will live long on the earth. This doesn't mean that everybody who died young disobeyed their parents or that everybody that obeys their parents will grow old. All it means is that if you obey your parents, who are wiser than you and have good intentions for you, then you will avoid sin and danger and other things that could threaten or shorten your life. Like many things life isn't all about quantity though. Life is about quality. God enriches the life of the obedient, even those that do die young. Sin always robs us, obedience always enriches us. A child must learn to obey his father and his mother because God commanded it and disobedience to your parents is disobedience to God. The child's nature is to be selfish but in the power of the Holy Spirit, a child can learn to obey his parents and glorify God. ACTS 29 | APRIL 10 | PAGE 07

Letters usually end with a phrase that English teachers call the complimentary close. Nowadays, it’s usually “Cordially” or “Sincerely.” It used to be “Yours truly.” Before that, there was commonly used that odd phrase “Your obedient servant.” That’s the way our life should manifest. That should characterize our whole attitude toward God: “Your obedient servant.”

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
