from your Pastor
DR. ED M. LAURENA
AS WE CONTINUE in “Making Disciples, we must not fail to remember that our attitude towards the Word and work of God has a significant part. Hence, our Sunday school lessons for this month may serve as constant reminders to us that attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. We, as children of God, must develop a positive attitude in facing challenges in life. We must see it as an opportunity to build our faith, courage, and total dependence on God. How we face challenges plays a big role in the outcome of them. We must be consistent to maintain our godly character at all times and under all circumstances. This summer season, I encourage every member to be more faithful in serving God. Our National Baptist Youth Conference is coming this week and it is my earnest desire and prayer to God that all young people in our church will involve themselves. Parents, let us motivate our children to come. This conference may be the turning point in their lives. Let our children be influenced by God’s Word rather than the world. Finally, I would like to covet your prayer that God would give us the amount of money that we need for the acquisition of the 3 adjacent lots for the realization of our Nehemiah project. Pray fervently that God will give it to us before this month ends. By faith, through our prayers, sacrifice, and cooperative spirit, I know that God will make this happen. Let us continue to be involved in serving and pleasing God! Have a blessed Sunday!

CBBA HERALDED
the Future Christian Leaders in AY's 2013-14 Banquet Awards and Joint Commencement Exercises
W
ITH THE CULMINATION of a productive Academic Year 2013-14, we have witnessed the hardwork and diligence of the students accepting exemplary academic and character recognition by way of “The 24th Banquet and Awards Night” last April 7 at the Max's Restaurant Function Hall. As a ChurchSchool family for 29 years, CBBA has mantained its vigilance, amidst oppositions and persecutions, on adhering to the Bible's key verse in training “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it”Proverbs 22:6. A close to about 200 folks comprising of students, families, alumni, teaching staff, the Pastor and family were given to triple feasts; inspiring awards, fulfilling meals, and exhorting Word from God's man. From the event theme, Dr. Gil Laurena emphasized that training and “Discipling Future Christian Leaders” is indeed a family matter, one that necessitates parent's close involvement and cooperation in partnering with the Academe and its tenets. He reinforced to the parents that we live in an educational boom where God is being eliminated in the Secular curriculum. So then we should be the more appreciative and zealous of upholding consistency with the Church and the Christian School in each respective home environment... for the preservation and promotion of the next godly generation. Immediately complementing the event is the Joint Commencement Exercises for the Pre-School, ABCs of
ACE, and High School last April 8 at the CBBC Main Auditorium. Dr. Gil Laurena charged the 17 graduates, especially the Senior High Schoolers to always be mindful of the Scriptures and to make a difference in any setting God has allowed them to prosper. He inspired them that their parents deserve that they live godly and goodly lives. He reproved them that their home-Church deserves that they make a godly difference in this destitute world. He instructed them that their teachers and the Pastor deserves that they follow God's divine will in their lives. He challenged them that their Alma-Mater deserves an alumnus/alumnae to fill-up a vacated post in the Academe in the years to come. Homegrown musical talents and specials were separately rendered by the students, the alumni, and the teaching staff; which all brought grace to the hearers. Our beloved Pastor Dr. Ed and wife Ma'am Dhel officiated the awarding of the much-awaited medals and plaques to well-deserving students. The highschool graduates each read their own piece of poem-testimony, a sincere and heart-warming thanksgiving memento for the labor of love and sacrifices of the parents, teachers, and the Church build them up in the Biblical foundation. We congratulate our graduates and salute the ardent students. May we always strive to be found worthy to be called Christ's disciples for the future of this generation and the next. To God be all the glory.
CBBC SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF HELD GRADUATION RITES
S
INCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2000, Christian Bible Baptist Church School for the Deaf has been blessed and was able to produce many graduates. The yearly ceremony includes the candidates from the preparatory, elementary, secondary, and college levels. A total of 19 students were confirmed this year during the April 4, 2014 graduation celebration bearing the theme: Deaf and Discipleship. The theme was inspired by the mysteries of God stated in the book of 1 Corinthians 4:1. It is indeed through the miracles of God that we are able to stand and face such complexities in dealing with them. God be praised and honoured for doing great miracles everyday in the lives of each worker involved in the ministry for the deaf. Please include in your prayer the salvation and growth of more deaf, as well as the need for more workers, teachers and facilities for a more effective ministry.
Consistency Leads to Victory 2 Samuel 23:10 He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.
A
S THE MEN OF DAVID were divided into ranks, three of them had done the greatest exploits and thereby gained the greatest reputation – Adino, Eleazar and Shammah. Adino slew 800 at once with his spear (1 Sam 23:8), while Shammah met with a party of the enemy, that were foraging, and routed them (2 Sam 23: 11, 12). But notice a remarkable characteristic exemplified by Eleazar. When the men of Israel were gone away, he not only kept his ground but arose, and smote the Philistines. His hand was weary, and yet it clave to the sword; as long as he had any strength remaining he held his weapon and followed his blow. His consistency led to victory. Consistency means firmness. Many are being good starters but seldom have come to be good finishers. In the service of God
we should keep the willingness and the resolution of the spirit. Eleazar’s act of cleaving unto the sword impressed courage from which strength is produced. He was alone, notwithstanding the weariness and the weakness of the flesh. He was fainting yet pursuing (Judges 8:4); his hand weary yet not quitting the sword. He acknowledged God’s companionship in him, foreseeing the victory which God is able to draw for them. As we work and pray to make disciples, we are make investments. In the course of producing another discipler, it would be a series of difficulties and struggles. Seeing the fruits of our labour may take much time, but the decision is always ours. A known pastor close to Dr. Ed, shared his experience in consistent conduct of Bible study, in which after five long years, the family accepted Christ. Come to think of it, he could have given up during the first six months, seeing no fruit of labour. But he continued because this pastor held on that encouragement that God shall give the increase (1 Cor 3:7). Let us always aim to have a great and smooth finish. It is by consistency that we can have victory!

“Reaching Out” Program Matagumpay na Inilunsad sa “Learn of Me” Grade 6 Retreat
MEN'S RETREAT
Matagumpay na inilunsad!
B

High School Baccalaureate Program Thanksgiving Testimonies
"God be praised and thanked for the high school baccalaureate fellowship successfully held on Sunday evening, March 23, 2014. The program was started with awakening activities and great testimonies that inspired those who attended. With the theme from 1 Timothy 6:20, I received an important reminder and an encouragement from the exhortation of Ptr. Ed Laurena. All the activities and the preaching of the Word of God had led my classmates and me personally to make a promise to stay pure in all areas of our lives. Indeed, the whole event became a great blessing to me."
-Miguel Gacer
“ I really thank God for giving me a chance to have a part in the first-ever HS Baccalaureate fellowship. It is my prayer that I will always remember what Dr. Ed has taught us - that we need to keep ourselves pure in God’s sight.”
-Jan Mark T. Dandal “ I want to praise and glorify God for our baccalaureate fellowship last March 23, 2014. We’re so privileged to be the first batch to have this program. I am very blessed by the message of our loving pastor, Dr. Ed M. Laurena, because it encouraged me, brought a great revival in my life, and taught me to keep on serving the Lord. The purity ring also is a great blessing to me for it reminds me the commitment I’ve made to God to keep myself pure in heart, mind, and ways by His power. To God be the glory.”
-Lhoed Christian M. Garcia
“ I praise and thank the Lord for the program that our teachers organized last March 23, our baccalaureate. We are privileged to be the first batch of students to receive the purity rings as a sign of our purity vows. We are engaged to keep ourselves pure in the sight of God and men, and we thank God that our teachers supported us with such program. As we start a new phase in our lives, please pray for us that we take our vows as we face tougher challenges in our lives. To God be all the glory and praises.
-Nikki Micah D. Accad “ I thank the Lord for the baccalaureate fellowship last March 23, 2014. I’ve heard testimonies from my fellow graduating students which became a blessing to me. Pastor Ed’s devotion also became a blessing to me. He encouraged us that we should stay faithful to God and we can be a successful Christian through Him. Furthermore, I made a vow to God that I would keep myself pure until His perfect time. Our teachers gave us the purity ring as a symbol of our vow to God. The whole fellowship was full of fun and blessings. To God be the glory"
-Sweetsel Jane J. Arlos
“ I want to thank the Lord for the success of our baccalaureate. It became a great blessing for us, high schoolers for we are reminded to keep ourselves pure, most especially that we only have months left before our college. I also thank my teachers for organizing this event.”

THE BLESSINGS OF DISCIPLESHIP
I
THANK GOD FOR CHOOSING ME as one of the heirs of His kingdom when I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior in August, 1983. I praise God also for leading me to be baptized in October of the same year. With God’s guidance, I decided to surrender my life to be in full-time service. By God’s grace, I am now striving to follow the Lord through church involvement, especially in the ushering and in the jeepney ministries. I am thankful, too, for the privilege given to me as an area leader in
A REPORT
from Preacher Jong Longcanaya of CBBC OUTREACH, SINGAPORE
O LORD, I have heard Thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive Thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.— Habakkuk 3:2 Truly God is good! Our dear pastor, Dr Ed Laurena, together with Dr Gil Laurena of CBBC-Taguig, visited the Lord’s vineyard here in Singapore to preach on our Revival Service last Sunday,
March 30. That morning, we took the preachers to Orchard Road, to see place buzzling with Filipinos, especially in front of Lucky Plaza, the Filipino-centric mall here in Singapore. Recently, this is where we saturate every Sunday morning to pass out tracts and witness to our kababayans. One of them was obliged to go with us and attend the service that afternoon, and even brought a
Area 30. I believe that I have become a recipient of such great blessing because our beloved pastor, Dr. Ed Laurena, had never stopped to visit and disciple me. He was and is indeed very instrumental for my spiritual growth as he did his part to fulfill the purpose of God in discipling members like me. Thus, I have learned so much from the Word of God, which I am currently using in teaching others also. Truly, discipleship is a great blessing for growing Christians, and likewise a rewarding responsibility for the discipling believers.
- Bro. Danny Bacudio
friend along. Two great men of God mean we will have two great Revival challenges. Kicking off our service was Dr Ed Laurena, who preached on the message, “Four Attitudes to Receive God’s Blessings.” Then Dr Gil Laurena concluded the Revival service with the message, “Why are We Losing Our Ground.” God truly worked in the midst of His people and it became evident when Dr Ed gave the invitation. The congregation knelt before God and recommitted their faithfulness to Him. Another blessing in our Revival Sunday was the baptism of our first non-Filipino convert, Bro Iyan, an Indian Singaporean. He was actively attending a Pentecostal group for 5 years before he started attending our Bible studies and made a decision to know more of the true and sound doctrines found in the King James Bible, as taught in our discipleship programme. Brethren in San Pedro Laguna, we thank you for your prayers for us. Please do not stop, as God continues to do His increasing work. We will celebrate our 4th Outreach Anniversary on July 27. Again, we will be asking you to help us pray for more people to come, hear the Gospel message, and make decisions to receive Christ. To God be the glory!
3 Practical Keys to Create Consistency
I
N THE CONFRONTATION between the water stream and the rock, the stream always wins, not because of strength but by a consistent perseverance.
1. Focus on your own character before you focus on the character of others. It is easy to see character flaws in others but it’s hard to see them in ourselves. This is because we tend to be blackand-white (or dogmatic) when judging the decisions of others and rationalize (or justify) the decisions we ourselves make.
2. Fix the problem and not the blame. People are quick to assign who is to be blamed rather than take the first actions of solving or fixing the problem itself.
Tapat na Tagasunod ni Kristo
3. Work on your private life and not just your public life. Work on the areas of your life that only you see, not just the parts others see. When a person’s true character comes to public knowledge, it typically reveals a pattern of poor decisions that have been made privately over a period of time. It is your responsibility to develop your own character. No one can do it for you. But godly people and God’s Word can help you.
A CONSISTENT CHRISTIANITY “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”- John 10:27
I
T WOULD SEEM that one of the most frustrating things in the life of a Believer is the struggle to live a life which is CONSISTENT with Biblical precepts done in a DAILY CONSISTENT basis. With an excess of media, ads, entertainment and activities that does not promote GODLY living, one could easily say that a consistent Christianity is thoroughly elusive. However, we should have good reasons to believe and be assured that we have a God and a Holy Spirit that can permeate our lives if we allow it. The Lord abhors duplicity or hypocrisy. Matthew 15:8 asserts, “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” Surprisingly, the unbelieving world hates hyprocrisy as well. Our impact is diminished if we do not aim to be consistent with our Biblical beliefs and practises in all aspects of our lives. The Bible is consistent with itself when studied correctly. Scripture does not contradict itself when rightly divided. God's Word is truth when handled accurately. 2 Timothy 2: 14-16 “Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” We must be consistent in the study of our Bible personally. A man is what he thinks about all day long. Philippians 4:8 states, “Finally, brethren, whatso-
ever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” We are what we think as asserted by Proverbs 23:7 “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:…” It is very critical that we nurture the nature of our minds. We must be consistent in out thought life. The Apostle Peter was condemned by Paul for being inconsistent in his actions as seen in Galatians 2:14 “But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?” A great thinker once penned, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.” We must be consistent in our conduct. As God’s people, we sometimes forget the power of prayer and that we have a Friend which sticketh closer than a brother. Ephesians 3:20 magnified God, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” We are commanded to pray without ceasing in 1 Thessalonians 5:17. We must be consistent in our prayer life. It is high time that we Baptist believers move away from our complacency, our apathy and our almost lethargic approach to Christianity. It is time that we stand up for truth, live out the truth, and when necessary die for the truth. Then, we would have consistently created an impact and influence that will outlast our mortal temporal and fleeting lives… all for God Glory.
