E PRAISE AND THANK GOD for giving us you, Dr. Ed, as our pastor. We are truly blessed to call you as our “man of God,” and we are really privileged to enjoy the fruits of your labor in your steadfast service to the Lord in our church for over 35 years. Through your prayers and ministry, many have come to the saving knowledge of Christ. You have been such an example of faithfulness, integrity, steadfastness, compassion and love to us over the years. Your submission to the work of Christ in this place has made such a powerful difference for a multitude of people. On your birthday milestone, we would like to express our love and gratitude for the example that you have faithfully lived before us all. You are a true picture of Christ and Christlikeness. You have gone on to stay faithful to the calling wherewith you have been called amidst all the trials that you have faced in the ministry. You have preached God’s Word without apology and without compromise. You have given godly and biblical counsels to us even when your physical weariness may not have wanted to keep going. We have seen your faithfulness to the Lord and we have been encouraged by your life.

Likewise, we appreciate and value all the church programs that by God’s grace, power and wisdom, you have initiated. As such, we would like to declare our support with the commitment we have for God for our church endeavours to fulfill the Great Commission through our participation in area soulwinning and Bible studies, inviting visitors, worshipping the Lord, involving in discipleship, attending Sunday School, praying, giving, ministering to others, and contributing to our Nehemiah Project. Yes, we are with you in our church goal to evangelize the sinners, edify the saints, and exalt the Saviour. Moreover, we are thankful that you always encourage and exhort us to be a part of our church activities like the recently-conducted NBYC 15, and the forthcoming DVBS Seminar-Workshop and area DVBS pursuits. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for staying faithful. When others may give up, become downhearted or discouraged, you have continued to show us what a faithful spirit looks like. How like the Master the reflection of your life has been. Happy birthday, Pastor Ed! We love you!!!

MINISTRY IN FOCUS:

JOYFUL BEGINNERS

THE ATTITUDE OF SACRIFICE Mark 15:27-37 I. The attitude of sacrifice will cause others to degrade us. A. Our Saviour was not exempted from the mockery of others. B. Believers will not be exempted from the mockery of others also. II. The attitude of sacrifice will cause others to desert us. A. Sometimes our own friends will abandon us. B. Sometimes our own dear family will abandon us. III. The attitude of sacrifice will cause multitudes to deposit their trust in us. A. A sacrificing life will stop the mouth of critics. B. A sacrificing life will support (help) others to trust God. IV. The attitude of sacrifice will cause a complete dependence on God. A. A sacrificing life is a life that is fully dependent on God. B. A sacrificing life is a life that is fully delighted in God. V. The attitude of sacrifice will create a distinct sacrifice in others also. A. The sacrifices of the Baptist forefathers made a good influence in the sacrifices of Christians today. B. The sacrifices of our Beloved Saviour Jesus Christ made a great impact in the sacrifices of Christians today.

Life begins at forty! This quote cracks some truth in the class of adults who are 40-49 years of age. Every Sunday morning at the ground floor of the Administration building, 120 to 150 men and ladies gather to listen to Sunday School lessons delivered by their beloved teacher, Rev. Rey Calma. Since the divided Sunday School began, Christianity has made a mark in the lives of many students from this class. Through God’s mighty power and abounding grace, their fruits of labour are now being enjoyed. Their main endeavour is to be great soulwinners for Christ. Indeed, testimonies of remarkable witnessing experiences fill their room especially during the evening fellowship. To advance, they plan to have a visitation program to reach out to every member of this group. God be praised for their accomplishments.

Contribution or Sacrifice? Matthew 16:24

"Once upon a time, a pig and a chicken were walking down the street. They came upon a church sign which was advertising a garage sale and breakfast which was going to be held in a few days. At the bottom of the sign the menu was given, it read “Ham and eggs will be served from 8:00 am.” The chicken turned to the pig and said, "See! Even us as smelly small little animals can help the work of the church!" "Yes," said the pig, "but yours is only a contribution, mine is a total SACRIFICE." Discipleship is an opportunity for investment which will gain incomparable dividends in the future. However, it will surely take much from the one who disciples; hence, situations may demand his treasures, talents and time. Jesus, as the ultimate Discipler showed Himself to be the perfect example of sacrifice. He challenged Peter and the rest of the apostles to follow Him, yet it is still a choice to make, thus the words “if” and “will” connote. When we choose to be Christ’s disciple we must have a sincere desire to belong to Christ, to renounce self-dependence and selfish pursuits, to embrace the condition which God has appointed, to bear the troubles and difficulties we may meet with in walking the Christian road; and lastly, to imitate Jesus, and do and suffer all in His spirit. We can never out love nor out give the Lord with the sacrifice that He has done for us. But we can always be the best student of His word, so as to capture the attitude of being a teacher who sacrifices to others who aspire to be discipled.

BHBC Held 25th Commencement Exercises

C

OMMEMORATING THE PAST TWENTY-FIVE YEARS of gloriously

lifting up God’s faithfulness in producing effective servants of the Lord, the Baptist Heritage Bible College facilitated the recognition of another group of students who have successfully accomplished the requirements placed by the institution. The fact that from this batch is the 400th alumnus added more significance to the occasion. Each of the twenty-six graduates, with five from Certificate in Bible Education, seventeen from Graduate in Theology, and four from Diploma in Christian Education, joyfully received the privilege of being part of the Alumni Batch 2013-2014. Moreover, Dr. Gil Laurena, as the Guest Speaker, conveyed a tremendous charge to the

graduates inspired by 2 Timothy 2:1-5. He reiterated that an event such as this commencement exercise does not connote an end of something; rather, it is the beginning of something bigger. To be called a “graduate” thus, entails an enormous responsibility of rightly influencing those people who are behind, with the valuable and incomparable things obtained from their training. After that the challenge was delivered, awards were given out to students who have excelled in academics and character, for the time period of this school year. With the graduation rites tacked in the NBYC 15 programme, the delegates were all the more encouraged and motivated to know more about the College, consequently praying to God that their desire to be trained be accomplished.

BHBC Markedly Celebrated its 28th Foundation Day

L

AST APRIL 14, MONDAY, the Baptist Heritage Bible College celebrated its 28th Foundation Day as a prelude to this year’s National Baptist Youth Convention. Aligning with the theme “Rooted and Grounded” from Ephesians 3:17, the highlight of the celebration was the marathon preaching of the seven selected promising new alumni and graduating students of the College. The audience feasted on seven powerfully exhorted outlines extracted from God's Word on the topics “Sin is the Curse,” “Oh, BHBC,” “Open Door,” “Rise Up and Stand,” “What Happened When Balaam Chose the Wrong Thing,” “Resolved to Surrender,” and “Perspective of Every Christian for Being Rooted and Grounded.” Dynamic, challenging, and Spirit-empowered, these wonderful and peculiar exhortations are manifestations of God's working not only in the message preached, but in the life of

the preachers. It is hoped that the alumni of the College will continually be an exemplary inspiration and role model for the next batch of graduates of this institution God is using for the equipping of the surrendered servants in the ministry while in the ministry. Then afterwards, the Alumni Association enjoyed a simple luncheon fellowship where respective class batches were recognized instilling in everyone a sense of accomplishment for the longevity and resilience of the institution albeit numerous setbacks and afflictions. Rev. Jess Sibug encouraged each alumnus and alumna to be rooted and grounded on the love, loyalty, and labour for the noble work God has placed them in His vineyard. This is the time as much as any where the few chosen called of God must stand firm and walk worthy of his vocation for the magnification of God's name.

National Baptist Youth Convention 15 Yielded Youths “Rooted and Grounded” in God

W

HILE THE MAJORITY of the country is celebrating its week-long ritualistic pagan tradition that would never ever lift a nation from decadence, about 800 young people delegates from over 40 churches across the country and abroad excitedly convened for this year's National Baptist Youth Conference (NBYC) 15 held last April 14-17 at CBBC Laguna grounds. Anchored on the theme “Rooted and Grounded” from King James Bible's Ephesians 3:17 “That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,” 22 spirited session and main speakers exhorted and challenged the delegates to immerse themselves to be rooted and grounded in the precepts and principles of God's Holy Word. The opening nigtht kicked off with a very stimulating teaser video of the past NBYC and the present one about to unfold. Then our well-loved Pastor exhorted the delegates and the congregation on the importance of the glorious presence of God in the conference. He iterated that God's presence will bring about excitement, humility, worship, praise, sacrifice, and involvement. Truly this Word of God preached from 2 Chronicles 7:1-7 has helped set the atmosphere for the rest of the conference. The succeeding three (3) days were a thrust towards rooting and grounding the youth on the Word, the Work, and the Will of God. The mornings were given to personal and group devotions, team meetings, divided sessions, and main challenges from reputed and seasoned speakers. The afternoons were spent in dynamic and stimulating games carefully chosen to harbor teamwork, fellowship and camaraderie to each of the 13 teams namely Palm, Gopher, Cedar, Pomegranate, Vine, Myrtle, Fir, Mulberry, Olive, Fig, Willow, Sycamore, and the Juniper team for our dear Deaf workers and delegates. The Soulwinning Clinic was given special focus on the 2nd day to reinforce “The Work of God” to which the delegates

held captive attention and application to God's love for the unsaved world. Delightful skits and team chants were given avenue for icebreakers. Godly congregational singing, specials, and musical accompaniments beautifully complemented each service. Warm food and accommodations were always ready to satisfy the basic needs of the delegates while away from home. In the last night's main challenge, Dr. Gil Laurena tenaciously charged the delegates from the Word of God to leave the culture of this deceived world and embrace the timeless and timetested precepts that God has designed for His blessed people. Fallacy abounds around us and if we have no understanding of the times, the world's lies will lure us into a desecrated life. In the face of a shrinking morality where political leaders, educators, media, and others gang up to undermine and discriminate our classic long-held Biblical values, we are increasingly becoming on the low rate of the culture war. It does not happen all at once but gradually, and it holds us down. We praise and glorify the Lord that the event yielded a close to about 200 delegates from different churches and areas who have surrendered their lives to God's principles and plans, it was the prepared-for and prayed-up goal of the conference. This NBYC 15 has consciously and deliberately changed and redirected the course of the lives of the delegates. It is not a call to live in an unrealistic way, it is not a call to isolation or withdrawal from society. It is a call to be and to live rooted and grounded in God's Word, Work and Will amidst a godless society. May our good Lord continually nourish and nurture in the hearts of His young people a desire to be unmoveable and unshakeable wherever God has planted them, for the preservation of a godly generation. To God be all the glory for NBYC 15.

7 Practical Tips How to Be Persistent Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. It was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, an American poet and educator who said, “The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night." Persistence is probably one of the most admirable characters a person can possess. It is the ability to be determined to do or achieve something regardless of any setback. A distinguishing attribute of those who succeed in life against those who do not is persistence. These are the 6 ways to develop persistence: 1. Identify your wants and desires. If you do not know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else. (See Jeremiah 10:23.) 2. Determine your motivation. If you know why you are doing what you are doing, it gives you more energy to keep moving. (See Philippians 3:14.) 3. Outline your definite action step. When you know how to get what you want, it makes it easier to achieve it. (See Psalms 37:23.) 4. Keep a positive mental attitude. Keep your thoughts focused on taking action towards your goals. Avoid negative thoughts and feelings for it will ruin your concentration and persistence. (See Philippians 4:8.) 5. Build your mastermind group. Choose carefully who you will trust as part of your mastermind group. Include only those who can give you unbiased judgments and who have positive mental attitude. You cannot afford wasting your time listening to cynical advice and pessimist people. (See Proverbs 24:6.) 6. Develop discipline. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. (See 1 Corinthians 9:27.) 7. Establish godly habits. The most interesting thing about a postage stamp is the habit with which it sticks to its job. We are what we repeatedly do. (See Philippians 1:27.)

THE BLESSINGS OF DISCIPLESHIP

O

NE BIBLE VERSE that has been steadfastly upholding me in my Christian life is what the Lord Jesus has commanded believers to do in Matthew 4:19, “And he saith unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Through the word of God, I was saved in 1992. Then I was given by the Lord the privilege to enrol in the Bible School in 1998. By His grace, I graduated in 2002. I praise God for allowing me to be used in His ministry. I also thank Him for letting our Pastor, Dr. Ed, to encourage me to keep on serving in the deaf ministry that was entrusted to me. Likewise, I am grateful to the teachers and church workers who guided and taught me how to disciple, specially the learning impaired or the deaf. I learned to have long patience and godly love for them as I strive to encourage them to follow me as I follow Christ. In discipling them, I need to focus on them, spend more time with them and join them with the purpose of leading them into the service of the Lord. Truly, this is a great blessing to me.

My Saviour, You're the Great Example of a Sacrificing Discipler Beata B. Agustin

My Saviour, You’re the holy initiator of genuine sacrificing Being the Lamb that was slain for my redemption’s bracing Here am I with my trust of faith-increasing… Thank You for Your surrender to the Father, so pleasing. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”-Romans 12:1 E OFTEN SAY that we have been making sacrifices for the cause of Christ and yet we are still fiercely holding on to all our petty comforts, complacencies and even contentions. In this day and age, we seem to view sacrifice as the giving away of something valuable in lieu of something of lesser value. However, when we speak of sacrificing for Christ, we are actually giving up “dung” to have something of greater value…and that is “gain or profit” and not sacrifice. Paul’s admonition to the believers in Rome was to sacrifice themselves to God, not as a sacrifice on the altar, as the Mosaic Law required the sacrifice of animals, but as a living sacrifice. The dictionary defines sacrifice as “anything consecrated and offered to God.” As believers, how do we persistently consecrate and offer ourselves to God as a living sacrifice? Under the Old Covenant, God accepted the sacrifices of animals. However, these were just a foreshadowing of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. Because of His ultimate, once-for-all-time sacrifice on the cross, the Old Testament sacrifices became obsolete and are no longer of any effect, “...but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us” (Hebrews 9:11-12) For those who are in Christ by virtue of saving faith, the only acceptable worship is to offer ourselves completely to the Lord. “...but yield

W

yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” (Romans 6:12-13) In view of the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus for us, this is only “reasonable.” In a very practical sense, Romans 12:2 helps us to understand that we are a living sacrifice for God by not being conformed to this world. All that the world has to offer can be reduced to these three things as defined for us in 1 John 2:15-16: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. All of those put us on the throne of our own lives and not God. We believers are exhorted to NOT be conformed to the world by being “transformed by the renewing of our minds.” We do this primarily through the power of God’s Word transforming us. We need to hear, read, study, memorize, and meditate on the Scriptures. The Word of God, ministered in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, is the only power on earth that can transform us from worldliness to true spirituality, “…That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:17). The result is that we that we “…may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2). It is the will of God for every believer to be a living sacrifice for Jesus Christ. What could we possibly really need that God has not already given and what do we have that is not already God’s. All we possess is this life we live in and this is what we should give to God. May we always find it a DELIGHT, and never a SACRIFICE, to do what God desires in our lives for His honor and glory.

My Saviour, You’re the timely provider of favorable offering Being the Source of everything of Your wondrous bearing Here am I with my all of service-gearing… Thank You for Your gift that speaks of Your caring. My Saviour, You’re the perfect example of full giving Being the Origin of blessings I’m always receiving Here am I with my oblation of righteousness-striving Thank You for Your compassion, truly nurtured by divine loving. My Saviour, You’re the ultimate model of joyful obeying Being the Son Who forsook heaven’s glory toward sin-debt paying Here am I with my earnestness of supplication-praying Thank You for Your compliance without delaying. My Saviour, You’re the glorious authority of meek submitting Being the Master mocked by Your creation with insults grievously humiliating Here am I with my sincerity of sinfulness-repenting Thank You for Your encouragement, blissfully motivating. My Saviour, You’re the victorious pattern of faithful working Being the Laborer against slothfulness’ barking Here am I with my diligence of devotion-provoking Thank You for Your strength that ministers in fruit-seeking. My Saviour, You’re the utmost rewarder of zealous toiling Being the Judge Who knows those who Your will are fulfilling Here am I with my commitment of involvement-excelling Thank You for Your approval for my well-doing and best dealing.
