O
DR. ED M. LAURENA
ne of the most powerful ways to demonstrate our discipleship is by having an excellent personal testimony. Religion has no power to change lives. Doctrine alone will not transform hearts. The most powerful witness is that of a Christian who knows the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ personally and whose life is genuinely changed by the Gospel. As children of God, our testimonies are so powerful that they can either encourage others to desire what we have or discourage them and keep them away from the faith, that is, from Christ and the church. May our lives exhibit the power of a personal testimony that will enlighten the unsaved to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus, encourage the brethren to serve God faithfully, and exalt our Saviour and give Him the glory and honour due unto His name. Once again, I am so blessed that God has given us another fruitful week of Daily Vacation Bible School. Many souls were saved as many members from different areas delightfully laboured and sacrificed for its success. Truly, it is our privilege to be used by God through this activity of our church and let us not forget that our labour is not in vain in the Lord – He sees and He rewards. Let us keep on doing our best in serving Him. Have a Spirit-filled Sunday!

1. Self-absorption – This is thinking mostly of self. We must counter it with Psalm 77:12. 2. Self-exaltation – This is magnifying or boasting of personal feats. Arrogance is a sign of insecurity. This is trying to convince others of our greatness because we cannot convince ourselves. We should overcome it through Psalm 77:13.

3. Self-sufficiency – This is haughtily satisfying and providing for self and not depending and recognizing the Source of all provisions and sustenance. We ought to vanquish it by Psalm 77:14 We must continually evaluate ourselves in the light of God's Word.

Man,” “Jesus Prayed for the Bread and the Fish,” “Mary Loves the Word of God,” “Andrew and Philip Brought People to Christ,” at “Jesus Stayed in the Temple.” Ang tema ng DVBS ngayong taong “Growing in Christ” ay hango sa 2 Peter 3:18 ng King James Bible, “But
grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”

Sunday School Adult Classes Commemorated Mother’s Day through a Dinner Banquet
A
BOUT ONE HUNDRED TWENTY (120) adults gathered for a Dinner Fellowship last Sunday, May 11, in commemoration of the world-wide occasion in honour of mothers. Initiated by our beloved pastor himself, Dr. Ed M. Laurena, a program was set to hail the prime woman of every family. Four fathers boldly testified
how the Lord blessed each of them with a wife that is God-fearing, hence, making it easy for them to lead their homes in remarkable triumphs. To highlight the purpose of the event, Dr. Ed spoke as he exhorted the importance of a strong husband-and-wife relationship in building a godly home. Surely, everybody went home with their stomachs and spirits satisfied.
Stirred-up by Christ’s Love "For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:" 2Corinthians 5:14
T
O BE CONSTRAINED is to be forced, to be compelled or to be obliged to do something. Hence, a Christian’s motivator in his involvement in the church and adherence to the Word of God is the constraining love of Christ. A lasting joy in serving Jesus should not be manipulated by any other motive but by the believer’s spontaneous love for Christ. When Hudson Taylor was director of the China Inland Mission, he often interviewed candidates for the mission field. On one occasion, he met with a group of applicants to determine their motivations for service. "And why do you wish to go as a foreign missionary?" he asked one. He replied "I want to go because Christ has commanded us to go into all the world..." Another said, "I want to go because millions are perishing without Christ." Others gave different answers. Then Hudson Taylor said, "All of these motives, however good, will fail you in times of testings, trials, tribulations, and possible death. There is but one cause that will sustain us in trial and testing; namely, the love of Christ.” The love of God shed abroad in our hearts is the root of our intense love for Him. The same serves as the ground of our love and labour for the salvation of the lost. God Himself demonstrated it to us as He gave His only begotten Son, John 3:16; 1 John 4:19. When we believed, we were influenced by the very same love and desire to spend and be spent for His glory. The road to Christlikeness through discipleship, though, is never easy. It is hard to be truthful always to what we teach and preach. We may earn praises and comments, but we must be careful with such. We may draw rebukes and persecutions yet through such, let us be mindful. We may be perspiring and fainting, but we should let the love of Christ stir us up as others see us continuing in the center of God’s will.

CBBC Deaf and Mute Ministry Nakilahok sa Taunang Deaf Camp
N
I
USED TO BE A Sunday School kid, but I actually have come to know the Lord when I was in 2nd Year high school. I then got baptized in December, 1999. I thank God for a family who has been my guide since then, in my Christian walk. My mother was very happy to see me become part of the church and it was my siblings who encouraged me to join the ministry. At first I was simply motivated by mere obedience. However, it was really the Word of God that brought me to the realization of my love for the Lord and His work, until I came to a point of committing my life in doing the things that will truly please God, such as going to San Pedro to study in BHBC.
sang malaking pagpapalang ang ating simbahan
By the grace of God, I was able to finish the course in 2007. Not too long after, I was entrusted by our Pastor, Dr. Ed Laurena, to handle Area 29 which covers Las Piñas City. I praise God also for the life of Pastor Arnold Vallejo who had become my mentor, for from him I have learned many principles and the one that cleaved is “CONTINUE.” Though there were discouragements, I did not give up seeing that there are people from the area who keep on loving the church and the Bible despite the geographical distance. It is sacrifice for them, so I must appreciate this privilege of serving Him, for His glory!

WALK THE TALK During one of the Bible College's leadership class, students were reminded of the phrase, "Our walk talks louder than our talk talks." This is a great truth summarized in just few words. It is of utmost importance to realize that one's life carries an incredible weight in the building up or breaking down of others' individual lives. The book of 2 Corinthians 3:2 tells that "Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men." As true Bible-believing Baptist Christians, one of the greatest gifts we can give is our example. This should lead each of us to ask questions of ourselves regarding what we are modeling. When was the last time we were seen praying at the altar? When was the last time we were seen guiding a convert down the aisle? When was the last time we were seen spontaneously and naturally giving a tract or witnessing? When was the last time we were seen doing a random act of kindness? These examples often have a far greater, long-term result than a carefully prepared talk or speech. The Lord Jesus was the Master at this, and He certainly modeled and led by His very own example. He showed us the true meaning of self-sacrifice. He demonstrated what it meant to die to self, and displayed how to live for, reach out to, and care for others. He obediently forsook all to obey the Heavenly Father. The result of this perfect testimony was that eleven men went on to turn the world upside down for the cause of Christ. Jesus commanded His disciples to follow Him, so He could make them fishers of men. As they followed, Jesus showed them how to look for opportunities to reach out to others, whether it was the woman with the issue of blood, blind Bartimaeus, Zacchaeus up in the tree, or Nicodemus at night. He modeled a sacrificial life as He demonstrated care for these and others. It is no surprise that His personal testimony was replicated in the life of His followers. We must bear in mind that those whom we will leave behind are watching to see if we are living what we are saying. The word 'testimony' can mean far more than a brief flow of sentences. The word 'testimony' can also describe the body of work that is our lives. May we live in such a way that people will mourn our dying and not our living. There is no doubt that if we will attempt to walk as Jesus walked; it will affect what we say or do, and we will positively impact the lives of others as a result. The challenge to develop the mind of Christ is captured with great clarity by the songwriter who said, "Oh, to be like Thee, Blessed Redeemer. Oh, to be like Thee, pure as Thou art." - Adapted from the Book "101 Tips for Teaching" by Dr. Mark Rasmussen of Lancaster Baptist Church
