from your

Pastor

God’s Word, the Bible, is the food of our souls. Without its nourishment in our lives, we will become spiritually weak, and scripturally ignorant. However, diligently reading it constantly makes us strong in the faith as well as wise toward righteousness. The verses in Psalm 19:7-8 mention the great, gracious and good impact of the Lord’s law, testimony, statutes, and commandment, which are fruitfully effective when they are read and applied. Thus, we should never neglect our Bible reading for us to have wisdom which God liberally gives (James 1:5). With that, we must thank God for the Bible, and for His granted ability for us to read and understand it wisely, with the aid of our Sunday School lesson. Meanwhile, we praise God for giving us wisdom to do His will, and this includes His leadership over our personal pursuits and in our church endeavors for His honor and glory. Our choice to involve in the advancement of His kingdom and in the fulfillment of His Great Commission is a proof of His wisdom that is at work in us. Much more evident is our willingness to support our church building renovation project through our contributions. All glory be to God for

those men who are making themselves available in the construction work, and for those members who are providing food. Everything that we have done and given for the Lord will surely be rewarded. Let us all continue seeking God’s wisdom and favor while we persevere to pray, work, and serve Him through our church. Only with God’s guidance can we be truly assured that we are thinking and acting wisely. This I can say as your Pastor who is grateful for the Lord’s daily direction and control of my life. I am also thankful for your prayers for me while I was in my mission trip to the United States, that helped me become a blessing to those churches where I was privileged to preach. This Lord’s day, we are enjoined to worship God, exalting and praising Him, as we acknowledge that “The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works” (Psalm 145:8-9).

A Gracious School Year Opens at CBBA and School for the Deaf and Mute Striving together in preserving and providing a sound Bible education in Christian leaders, workers and citizens for this generation and the next, the Christian Bible Baptist Academy (CBBA) and CBBC’s School for the Deaf and Mute have simultaneously opened last Monday, June 8. On its 29th Academic Year, CBBA remains unwavering in its aim to instill in the Pre-School to High-School students the necessary foundational principles based on the King James Bible. Leaning on an established ACE-SOT Curriculum and solid Biblical doctrine, CBBA opened the year with a sunny Monday of Conventional subjects classes for the 63 enrolled students and attending School Staff. Meanwhile, the Church is delightfully keeping on for the Special Education to our 100 dear brethren in the CBBC School for the Deaf and Mute. On its 14th year, it is truly marvelous in our eyes to see the deaf and mute people accepting Christ as Lord and personal Saviour, growing spiritually, soulwinning, worshipping, and serving God amidst limitations. May

the Lord Jesus Christ find this pleasing in His eyes. Sound in doctrine by rightly dividing the Word of Truth, these blessed institutions have curriculum offerings that are committed in proclaiming Biblical Truths and preaching Christ in all aspects of its activities. They are standing firm by their primary goal of Biblical Christian Education, upholding Christian servitude, servant leadership and Academic excellence, 2 Corinthians 4:5 -"For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake." Let us together lift them up in prayer as we endeavor more than ever to have a fruitful harvest of talents, time, toils, and treasures…all for God’s honor and glory. 03

CBBC Rendered a Labour of Love Since its kick-off in the last week of April, the improvement in the building project of CBBC excites everyone. The week after week movement towards the realization of a fully airconditioned edifice convinces the members to pray, participate and provide (as being used of God) for food and funds. Last Friday, along with the national commemoration of Freedom declaration, the members and fulltime workers of the church freely expressed their love for God and His work as they rendered a whole day of labour with the dear pastor, Dr. Ed Laurena, whom they missed so much after

04

a month-long trip in the United States. He who was so enriched with great vision for the congregation inspired the labourers to do it for the glory of God! So with their hands at work and their hearts for a purposeful will, a good job was surely accomplished!

The Scriptures: The Source of Wisdom A minister was visiting one of his members. The lady of the house was trying to impress him about how devout she was by pointing out the large Bible on the bookshelf and talking of it as “the Word of God” in a very reverential way. Her young son interrupted the conversation, and exclaimed, "Well, if that’s God’s book we better send it back to Him because we never read it!" Oh, what a shame it was for this woman and for some of us, too, to have the Bible as a mere bookshelf display. The more heartbreaking part is that we know how it can surely work for us, but we resist the wisdom that emanates from it because we neglect to read it. THE SCRIPTURES MAKE US WISE UNTO THE WAY OF SALVATION. The kick-off point of understanding the words in the Bible is at the time of one’s acceptance. “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:15). Do you remember the time when a soulwinner showed you in Romans 3:23 how vile a sinner you are, and despite this truth is the love of God which saved you as stated in John 3:16?

“He must increase, but I must decrease”.

Thank God for the Bible! THE SCRIPTURES MAKE US WISE BY WORKING IN US FOR HIS SERVICE. When a child has learned to read his very first sentence, the excitement is all the more stirred up… so he reads more! The craving for Biblical truth leads a person to know Christ more (2 Peter 3:18). A life that is centered on the Saviour is a life of denial and surrender for the service of the Lord, as John the Baptist confessed in John 3:30,

THE SCRIPTURES MAKE US WISE WHILE WE WAIT FOR HIS SECOND COMING. 2 Timothy 3:1 says that “perilous times shall come,” but along with it is not to fear the judgment but to focus on the commandment to “Preach the word … reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:2). It is the wisest use of our waiting time in the Lord. Without the Scriptures, Timothy could hardly make it to be used mightily of God in pastoring the church at Ephesus. The results of reading and studying, memorizing and living up to the truth of the Scriptures are surely unfathomable. On top of those is to know wisdom and understanding, even Christ, Himself!
