I MUST USE BIBLE-PROVEN PATTERN AND ATTITUDES AS I INVOLVE IN GOD’S WORK.
PATTERN OF INVOLVEMENT
Christian life is an exciting life! When we truly understand God’s Word and our role as members of the church, we would not have to push ourselves in involving in God’s work. God’s Word has already set a pattern and all we have to do is follow that pattern, put our hearts into it, and enjoy obeying God’s will. Most of us enjoyed a one-day fun-filled Sports fellowship last Tuesday that gave us happiness, but it was just temporal. On the other hand, serving God and realizing that we are doing it for eternal benefits surely give us joy in our daily Christian life. Such is very possible as we win souls, obey His will and learn from His Word. Today, we also give honor to the fathers of our church. To you fathers, I say these greetings with gladness: I appreciate your faithfulness to your family and your love for God. As you fulfill a major role in your family, allow God to give you wisdom and Biblebased leadership in guiding your wife and children to a holy living and zealous service to God through the church. Your relationship to your family must picture God’s love to us as His children. Let us have a blessed Sunday and Happy Fathers’ Day!

A SPIRITED SPORTS FEST-FELLOWSHIP
What better way to cap off officially CBBC’s busy summer and welcome another great school year than an Inter-Church Sports Fest-Fellowship. Last June 12, coinciding with the nation’s Independence Day, representatives from twelve fellowshipping Churches and Missions participated in the CBBC’s annual Sports Fest at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex. Unlike any other Sporting event, this one was meant primarily to foster fellowship and camaraderie amongst the brethren. The event organizers divided teams according to respective church localities: San Pedro North, San Pedro South, Cavite, Los Baños, Sta. Cruz Laguna, Batangas, Calauan, and Manila. They were assigned into color-coded teams White, Black, Orange, Dark Blue, Yellow, Red, Light Blue, and Violet, respectively. San Pedro North Group excelled in the mind games namely, Games of the General both for ladies and men’s division while Manila shone in Men’s Chess and San Pedro South for Ladies’ Chess. Word games like Word Factory and Scrabble were topped by Cavite, Batangas and Los Baños in Ladies’ and Men’s Division. Meanwhile, Track and Field games were bagged by Batangas, Los Baños and San Pedro North and South Group. Major highlights were the championship matches for ladies’ volleyball between San Pedro North and Los Baños; and men’s basketball between Cavite and Los Baños. The volleyball teams exhibited unanticipated competency resulting to a very close battle; nonetheless, San Pedro North soared in first place. In the culminating basketball championship match between Cavite and Los Baños group, the last 15-seconds of the game was leaning towards a Cavite win but due to failing two free-throw shots and rebounding errors, Los Baños stole the ball and took a surprising win as they scored a three-pointer few
seconds before the shot clock. The audience rose from the bleachers and the gymnasium echoed with cheering at this buzzer-beater moment. One would think that these things happen only in professional basketball but the Lord indeed has a wonderful humor. It had been a great day of FUN, PLAY and FELLOWSHIP, a sure recreation for the body, mind and spirit. We thank God for the successful Sports Fest-Fellowship! Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. -Psalm 103:13,14
A Father's Prayer
A Father's Love
The Glory of Children Children's children are the crown of old men; and the
Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.
There was a father who had a stubborn son who ran away from home with a large sum of money. Some time afterwards, the old man was told that this boy had returned to London, and was very ill in a house of ill-repute. The father thought, “Shall I go to see him there?” Finally, with a detective, he went. He was horribly disgusted when he entered the house, and more so at the companion with whom he found his son. But when he looked upon the bed, and saw the young man asleep, he noticed his eyelash tremble, and then there came from under it a tear. This moved the father’s heart, and he said, “I am his father; he is my child!” The old man put from his mind his disgust at the whole surroundings, and awaking his son, looked tenderly upon him saying, “My poor boy, will you come home?” The wretched youth whispered, “Father, if you can forgive me, take me away from here!” It was a sad coming home, but all the way the old man said, “This is my boy!”
The good father doth not turn off the child for being weak and sickly; but is so much the more indulgent as his necessity requires succour. If his stomach refuse meat, or cannot answer it with digestion, will he put him out of doors? No; when the Shunamite’s son complains of his head, she lays him in her bosom. A mother is good to all the fruit of her womb, most kind to the sick infant: when it lies with its eyes fixed on her, not able to declare its grief, or to call for what it desires, this doubles her compassion: “So the Lord doth pity us, remembering our frame, considering that we are but dust”; that our soul works by a lame instrument; and therefore he requires not that of an elemental composition, which he doth of angelical spirits. The son is commanded to write out such a copy fairly; he doth his best, far short of the original; yet the father doth not chide, but encourage him. Or he gives him a bow and arrows, bids him shoot to such a mark; he draws his utmost strength, lets go cheerfully: the arrow drops far short, yet the son is praised, the father pleased. Temptation assaults us, lust buffets us, secular business diverts us, manifold is our weakness, but not beyond our Father’s forgiveness: “He will spare us, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him,” Mal. 3:17. “So the Lord pitieth,” So and ten thousand times more than so. For he is the “Father of all mercies,” and the Father of all the fatherhoods in heaven and earth. Eph 3:15
glory of children are their fathers.—Proverbs 17:6
This was King Solomon talking about his father, David. David was a good soldier and a good king. He may not have been a good father to his elder children, but he did raise Solomon well. Well enough for Solomon to honor David by saying, “the glory of children are their fathers.” Many glories are mentioned in the Bible. The glory of young men is their strength (Prov. 20:29); the woman is the glory of the man (1 Cor. 11:7); and the long hair is the glory of the woman (1 Cor. 11:15). But for children, their glory is their fathers. The words used for the word “glory” in these verses speak of honour and praise. As such, the fathers will be responsible for their children’s: 1) Direction. Prov. 8:1 says, “My son, hear the instruction of thy father”. A good father has an instruction and will give his children a direction, a pathway, in which they could follow through. He is a guide; he goes alongside his children, aiding them in the right way that they should go. He does not leave them behind aimless, without any goal in life; instead, like a good shepherd, he sets forth his rod, correcting any unwary lamb back to his direction. 2) Distinction. After his battle with Goliath the giant, Saul asked David, “Whose son art thou, thou young man?”
(1 Sam. 17:58). David was still a child at that time, and for a child to accomplish such a feat, who should get the glory? Of course, it should be the child’s teacher and trainer. A child’s accomplishment is a father’s recognition. Such is the case with David. 3) Devotion. A child’s first teacher of the Word of God should be his father (Deu. 6:4-7). David was a man after God’s own heart. When Solomon became king of Israel, he was asked of God anything he would so desire. But he chose neither riches nor fame. Solomon, under the tutelage of David, became a man after God’s own wisdom. David’s training paid off and Solomon became the wisest king the world has ever known. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom”. Solomon said that based on what he experienced. Who could have taught him about that?
Fathers, this is your day. As you expect and receive honor from your children, may you always take into account that their honor also lies in your lives. Give them proper instruction; make them proud to have you as their heritage; and always be ahead in leading them closer to God. Remember, you are your children’s glory.
Build me a son whose wishes will not take the place of deeds; a son who will know Thee, and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge. Build me a son, whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high, a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past. And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom and the meekness of true strength. Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, 'I have not lived in vain'.

Bro. Tony M. Lee Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path. Prov. 3:5-6 Truly we are blessed with the sending of a man whom God has ordained to be the patriarch of preachers and servant-leaders here in San Pedro, Laguna. Our pastor, Dr. Ed M. Laurena had been used mightily and is being continually used by God in all the ministries that are laid upon his shoulders. Our family is one of the privileged recipients of God’s mercy and loving hands to be saved through his unwavering love for the lost souls. He is our father in faith and we thank God for him, while we likewise are grateful that he continues to be a model father whom we emulate as we fulfill our role in God’s will to be the father of our children. After all, we are only the caretakers of our children and we learn this through the preaching of God’s word. Being a father is not an easy task, but I thank God for His enabling power to accomplish such. Raising a family as well as looking after the welfare our children is God’s command which we fathers can carry out while we partner with our loving wives. Fathers can never (if I may say) do the responsibility alone without the mothers. Just like many other fathers, I cannot do it by myself. Meanwhile, let me take this opportunity to greet all the fathers this father’s day. Happy Father’s Day to all and we should be proud to see our children grow as we groom them to be responsible citizens and future fathers, by God’s grace and guidance. My prayer is to see my youngest son to be active and become one of workers of our faith, at least to be in choir ministry or in the same ministry in which I belong. Help me pray that he will continue to stay and be faithful in the church. This same prayer is what I have for my grandchildren. I praise God that we, CBBC fathers, are always reminded that one of the visions of our pastor is to have dedicated church members who will take care of the next generation of believers and
workers. The molding process is a continuous process whereby the bad part of us is slowly and painstakingly removed and being re-shaped…Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Cor 5:17). Indeed, such is true to my life, as I have been experiencing God’s wonderful work in my life since I got saved in December, 1985; I got baptized here in CBBC in January, 1986; and I got involved in the ushering ministry in 1990. Psa 106:1 – Praise ye the Lord, O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever. Bro. Rey Toreja Phil.1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. God be thanked for the salvation I received on November 4, 1989 when my dearly beloved wife, Angie, shared with me the Gospel. Indeed, I am glad that I have become a part of God’s family through my personal relationship with the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Truly, God has been gracious for the bountiful blessings that He has bestowed upon me for the past ten years that I have been in the choir ministry and fourteen years in the ushering ministry. Through the years, my family and I have encountered many trials in life. However, amidst those difficulties, we have experienced God’s faithfulness as He has shown us His love and mercy over and over again. It is only by His grace that we can continue serving Him. I also thank God for the privilege of attending the “Men mentoring men” program of church. It is contributing a lot to me in leading further my family in the service of the Lord. I give back the honor and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ!
