from your Pastor
God is always in sovereign control over every condition for He is the Lord of all situations, and no circumstance is hidden or strange unto Him. Being perfect in His will and prudent in His ways, He surely knows what is best for us, His children. Hence, He can be absolutely and undoubtedly trusted. We then must rest in Him confidently, putting steadfastly our faith in His promises, believing that “God is not man, that he should lie; neither the son of man that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19). Amidst the grievous aftermath of the devastating super typhoon Glenda, our God is on His throne, assuring us His presence with His power, protection, pardon and peace, while consistently providing our needs. We must thank and praise Him as we acknowledge His planned wonders, purposive works and principled warnings, and recognize that in our difficulties, He reaches down to us with His sufficient DR. ED M. LAURENA grace. Yes, we are affected by the recent calamity that struck our Region, and it is but natural to be disheartened; nevertheless, we should not remain in gloom, since we have our ever-loving God Who is constantly determined to encourage us, exhorting us with this truth: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Through the Lord’s propelling Word and providential watch-care, we should be determined to perform our Christian duties, which include among others, praying persistently according to His precepts, participating perseveringly in our church activities, pressing on progressively for our spiritual welfare, and praising Him with our pleasing worship. Today, let us claim for God’s prepared victory for us, both in our church and in our outreach in Thailand, which is presently celebrating its first anniversary for the glory and honour of the Lord.

Ministry in GRADE 5
K
THE BLESSINGS OF DISCIPLESHIP
I
THANK GOD for saving me. I was saved when Pastor Ed preached a message about Hell and I became scared about going there. I was only seven years old then, and not knowing how to be saved, I asked my Dad how to get to Heaven when we got home after the prayer meeting. So on April 27, 1998 at 10:10 PM, I got saved! That marked the start of my journey in my Christian life. Needless to say, I needed a discipler. Since I came from a Christian home, my parents became my first disciplers. While I was in CBBA, my dedicated teachers likewise discipled me. Along with them were my Sunday School teachers who had a great part in discipling me, too. When the discipleship program of our church was first launched, I participated as a disciplee until I was able to finish all seven stages by God’s grace. With God’s guidance, I have learned so much from God’s disciplers that He has put in my life. The discipleship program was a good stepping stone for me before I entered Bible College. Even when I was just in High School, I already gained Bible knowledge and doctrines studied from this program. I was also able to defend my faith amongst other relatives and friends that did not believe in the Baptist faith. Because of the discipleship program, I now also have a database of past lessons I have taken up which I could review whenever some doctrinal questions arise from my soulwinning endeavours. Truly, I have learned that there can be no real Christian growth when a young convert does not involve in discipleship, and there can be no fruitful spiritual progress when an “oldtime” believer does not disciple in any way. Praise the Lord for discipleship. To God be the glory!

ANY ARE GOOD STARTERS, but just a few make it to become good finishers. In the race of making disciples, the pattern impressed by the Great Commission starts with soulwinning; and yes, many are becoming effective presenters of the Good News, hence, bringing sinners down to the prayer of acceptance. But as disciplers, we know that a successful discipleship does not end there. It is imperative that these new converts would learn to come to church and grow in the knowledge of our Saviour (2 Peter 3:18) through personal guidance in the light of the Word of God. The hardest part of ushering these souls towards Christ-likeness is to see them making the decision of following Christ, for he that will be a true disciple of Jesus Christ shall require no less than the mighty power of God to support him; as both hell and earth will unite to destroy him. In the period of a disciplee’s way to Bible knowledge and application, inevitable trials and temptations of the old sinful Adamic nature bite his new spiritual nature. As the devil seeks to steal, to kill and to destroy (John 10:10) the Christian who desires to follow Christ wholeheartedly, he then must have the determination to deny his own will and take up the challenge entailed with the obedience in Jesus. Fanny Crosby, an American hymn writer to which 8,000 songs are accounted, was blinded at a very young age. In the course of her life, her physical limitation was never a hindrance to maximize her talent for the Saviour. When she was once asked if she ever regretted to be blind, she stressed that it was her joy to continue serving God despite her situation, for when she would reach heaven, it would be Jesus’ face she would see first. Thus, this famous song, My Saviour First of All, was coined from such a clear purpose and principle for living! When my life work is ended and I cross the swelling tide; When the bright and glorious morning I shall see; I shall know my Redeemer when I reach the other side And He smile will be the first to welcome me. I shall know Him, I shall know Him, And redeemed by His side I shall stand I shall know Him, I shall know Him By the print of the nails in His hand. Brethren, as we have been required to leave our comfort zones in determining to start, we must be relieved as well that there are real rewards we can look forward to when we determine to finish. So as the race continues on in our pursuit to make disciples, we must faint not for in due season we shall reap (Gal 6:9), and shall obtain the prize (1 Cor 9:24).
eyes of faith and with the Scriptures’ perspective, we then must have a clear:
But then comes the hard part—living here as a Christian in a world that is hostile towards God and His people. The world constantly lures in front of us all that it has to offer in opposition to the things of God. From within, the flesh entices us to forsake Christ and gratify sinful desires. The enemy hits us with temptation after temptation. The real test of our faith is, will we endure? Genuine faith in Christ perseveres to the finish line.
VIEW OF THE PRESENT. We could only finish well when like the Apostle Paul, we had reproduced ourselves in others by way of Discipleship…by way of living godly lives and leaving behind a good number of people who can carry on with Christ because of our influence. Each of us needs to ask ourselves, “Am I working on that task? Am I taking Jesus’ Great Commission to make believers and disciples of others?” That Commission applies to every Christian at some level. If you have accepted Christ as Saviour, then He calls you to make believers and disciples of others. VIEW OF THE PAST. Paul was able to look back on his past in Christ and say confidently that he had done what God called him to do. He was not implying that there had not been mistakes or times of discouragements for there had been. But through all of the problems and trials, he stayed in the race. To be able to join Paul as a determined finisher at the end of our lives, we must be able to make his three statements in verse 7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” VIEW OF THE FUTURE. Paul could finish well in spite of his dismal circumstances because he had a secured hope for the future. He could finish well because he hoped to meet the Lord, the Righteous Judge. That hope of meeting the Lord, the Righteous Judge, who will welcome us into heaven on the basis of His perfect righteousness, should help us now to run the race with endurance. The Bible teaches that while salvation is a free gift, God will reward us on the basis of our service for Him (Rom. 14:10; 2 Cor. 5:10), and these rewards will differ among believers. Some will have their works burned up because they were not founded upon Christ, but they will be saved yet so as through fire. Others will receive a reward for their works (1 Cor.3: 10-15).
The Christian life is a grueling marathon, not a speedy 100-yard dash. Since finishing a marathon well is not easy, we admire those who have done it. It is very clear that the apostle Paul was one of those persevering believers. He exhorted Timothy and us to keep running well and finish strong. Through the
It might be that circumstances seem dismal, discouraging, or downtrodden at present. Perhaps some are even considering dropping out of the Christian race. Let God’s enabling in the life of Apostle Paul inspire us to run well and finish strong, all for His name’s sake.

HE TRUTH OF THE MATTER is, “Starting well is relatively easy but finishing well is an entirely different story.” This could be said on the Christian life. Becoming a Christian is relatively easy, since Jesus Christ wholly and fully did the absolutely hardest act: sacrificing Himself for our salvation. Indeed, going to heaven is not difficult since being assured of it is grace in its very essence. When someone admits to God that he is a sinner and receives by faith the free gift of eternal life that Christ provided by His shed blood on the Cross of Calvary, he becomes a Christian. People cannot work for salvation nor do anything to qualify for it. God gives it freely to those who recognize their need and trust in Christ alone.

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
