from your Pastor
DR. ED M. LAURENA
I hope and pray that our series of Sunday School lessons this month has been a great reminder for everyone. Today we conclude our monthly theme on “Laying Aside the Weights of Life.” The Bible is very clear that God saved us to serve, and many weights of life would hinder us to do it. Let us continually ask God for wisdom so we can identify those in our lives, submit them to God and fulfill the real joy of serving Him! This month’s theme is very timely also as we are to launch out our big “Nehemiah Project: Let Us Rise Up and Build for God’s Glory.” With much of our weights set aside, let us pray and work as one church family, having big faith in God that He will accomplish this through us. There are still thousands of souls to be reached, lives to be changed and ministries to be expanded. I believe that this project, geared by God’s power, can help those to be accomplished. I praise the Lord for giving me the privilege to pastor this Church, and I know that we can do more! I challenge you as an individual member to step up with me and see God work. It can be done!

AN INSTRUMENT IN GOD'S WORK
C
onsider the many inventions that have been developed in our world. Even as far back as ancient civilizations, humanity was developing new, better, faster, more efficient ways of performing every day tasks. Some ancient ruins suggest early civilizations invented ways of transferring water to towns in a rough form of plumbing. Yet as far as we have come, it seems as if invention and ingenuity will never end. There's always a better way of doing something that has yet to be discovered. Have you ever stopped to consider how different life would be had God simply given us modern technologies and advancements when He created the world? What would life had been like in Mesopotamia if they had sophisticated medicines? How would the communication at Babel have been aided with cell phones and the internet? One reason God didn't immediately give the world modern conveniences perhaps can be seen in the story theologian Charles Hodge tells from his time at Princeton: "It was my privilege to be the pupil-assistant of Professor Joseph Henry, the illustrious scientist. When, for the first time, electric signals were sent from point to point, the earth itself being used for the return current, Professor Henry put me at one end of the circuit, while he stood directing the experiments at the other. I can well remember the wonderful care with which he arranged them. Very often, when the testing moment came, he would raise his hand in adoring reverence and call upon me to uncover my head and worship in silence. He would say, 'Because God is here, I am about to ask Him a question.'" God used ordinary men and women to discover modern advancements and attest to His glory. While not every inventor gave God glory, many have used discoveries to point others to an omniscient God. This reminds us that God uses human instruments to do His work. As David and Israel suffered through the consequences of David's sins, take note of an often overlooked yet important principle seen in 2 Samuel 24:18, "And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite." David had cried out directly to God, yet God answered through His prophet Gad. God sent the message of relief through His prophet. Why didn't God go straight to David? God shows us the importance of human instruments in His work. As God's servants, we have the opportunity to be used by God to deliver His message of salvation to others. Perhaps you've heard the point, yet it still rings true-if God didn't have a plan for us, He would have raptured us home at the moment of salvation. God has left us on earth to be used in the furtherance of His work on earth. Our responsibility is to be faithful to serve Him and tell those around us of God's plan. Are you fulfilling God's plan for your life? At its very base, God desires for your life to be spent showing others salvation. Through loving actions, a godly testimony, and faithful witnessing your life should show others that there is a God and He offers them something different from what they can find in the world.
OUR WORKING PRIORITY The greatest thing to come out of all your hard work is not what you get for it, but what you become from it. There is a direct correlation between the person and the work that he does day in and day out. The human race indeed has been designed to work as the Bible also affirms. Thomas A. Edison quoted that “the three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.” As Christians, we are all called to be partakers of the greatness and the glory of the work in which God gives a share. It is nothing less than that work of bringing men back to God, which gives Him delight and pleasure. As we realize that it is God's own work, we have to work willingly, diligently, and faithfully by His grace. In our obedience, we glorify Him and we shall count it all joy to give ourselves to live only and wholly for Him. God's work must be done in God's way and in God's power. It is a spiritual work, to be done by Spirit-led men, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Many times, in our Christian walk and service, we clamor too much for results and in such pursuit, we are led to resort to human terms of accomplishment, forgetting that God weaves all the circumstances of our lives into a beautiful tapestry for His honor and His glory alone. The clearer our insight into, and the more complete our submission to God's laws of work, the surer and richer will be our joy and reward. It is disturbingly alarming that a major percentage of Christians practically take no real part in the service of the Lord. It is God's will that every believer, regardless of his position or possession in life, gives himself wholly to live and work for God. Jesus gave a perplexing Scriptural passage in the Book of John 14 where He said that “.....How could a mere Christian's work be greater than that of the Master.” The Lord is essentially exhorting us to work and to work mightily in His Vineyard. Ephesians 2:10 asserts, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” During our entire lifetime, we will be asked to choose in which manner we will be spent up as the Apostle Paul has said. Essentially, whichever and whoever has our work has our heart and whichever of whoever has our heart has our being. It is tragic to find ourselves, as people of God, so deeply entangled in the affairs of the world that we have allowed them to permeate our very being leaving us incapacitated for and unprofitable in the work of God. The Lord has promised in Luke 4:18, ”The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised." Clearly the Lord's favor and anointing are with His obedient children who prioritize His noble work. Let us give God's work the appropriate reverential importance due it so that Jesus Christ is always magnified.
NO HONOR BEFORE ACTION eneral Ira C. Eaker, wartime chief of the Army Air Force Bomber Command in Europe, was given a G dinner to honor him and his staff soon after their ar-
rival in England. Chief speaker of the occasion was the mayor of the village where Eaker’s headquarters were located, who proceeded to speak at considerable length on the virtues of the Americans and the debt England owed them. Then he called on General Eaker for a few words. Eaker arose, cleared his throat a couple of times in embarrassment, and said humbly: “Until we’ve done some fighting, I’m not going to do any talking. When we’re gone I hope you’ll be glad we came.” With that he sat down to thunderous applause that lasted for minutes on end!
NEEDED: THIRD CLASS PASSENGERS In the days of the stagecoach, a man undertook a journey. He was informed that there were first, second, and third-class passengers. However, all the seats on the coach looked alike to him, so he purchased a third-class ticket. All went well for a time and the man was congratulating himself upon having saved some money. Presently they came to the foot of a very steep hill, when the driver stopped the horses and shouted. “First-class passengers, keep your seats, second class get out and walk, third-class get out and push behind. “ What we need in the Kingdom work is third-class passengers. Those who will push! Not first-class, who are contented to sit and look on while the others are working, not second-class passengers who are willing to walk away when real work comes; but thirdclass passengers who are willing to bear “the burden and heat of the day.”

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
