from your Pastor

DR. ED M. LAURENA

Our God is truly great and really good all the time!!! We thank God for all His wondrous works in our lives and in our church, especially in allowing us to involve in advancing His kingdom to populate Heaven and to bring people to the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We are blessed as a church to be able to cast a spiritual shadow of good influence through our discipleship program. More so, we praise God for helping us in the victorious launching of our church-wide Sunday afternoon tracts’ distribution and evangelism last month, and for enabling us to reach our goal of giving 100,000 Gospel tracts through such endeavor. With God’s presence, power and provisions, we can continue doing His will of being a blessing and an influence to others by what we do, what we say, what we wear and where we go. The most important is to have a close relationship with God first, and then to do diligently our part as a responsible Christian, by His grace and for His glory. This September, let us be geared, guided, governed, and girded with Bible principles which our Sunday School lessons on “Discipleship Benefits” teach us so that we will all the more become effective in “Making Disciples.” Together, we must be determined to walk in the light, striving to become His vessels “unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work” (II Timothy 2:21).

BYCM Gloriously Reached Their Big Friday Goal

ITH THE NUMEROUS worldly influences that enslave the Filipino youth today, the Baptist Youth Campus Ministry (BYCM) keeps on reaching out to the high school students by way of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to various secondary school campuses in San Pedro, and the neighboring cities. Apart from the weekly Bible Studies and classroom evangelism, the BYCM members opened another great avenue to bring the lost to the Saviour. Last September 5, 2014, the Annual Big Friday successfully reached their target of 250 in attendance. Strategically, they had two batches of students who came in from all the eight participating high school campuses, making up a total number of 461 in attendance. The afternoon was packed with fun in a well-crafted program featuring a special number from the BHBC graduates who were once

students in many National High Schools which were conquered by the church workers years ago. Meanwhile, the most important message which every attendee ought to hear on this event was especially delivered by the Baptist Youth Fundamentalist Coordinator, Preacher Pops Villarosa. He declared the Gospel message which drew 282 professions of faith. The event adopted the church theme, “Making Disciples” inspired by 2 Timothy 2:2. The combined efforts of the faithful workers in this ministry, in cooperation with CBBA students, will not surely be in vain. Their labor in planning, praying, following-up, fetching and sacrificial giving will definitely beget God’s immeasurable favor. God be praised as well for the members who extended remarkable material and spiritual support for the success of this heavenly endeavor. To God be all the glory!

Anibersaryo ng BBC, Miagao, Iloilo, Matagumpay na Idinaos

S

In Honor of Lolo and Lola

This

is a special day for our ''Lolos'' and ''Lolas,'' not only in the Philippines, but also in many countries of the world. The celebration of Grandparents' Day started as a United States holiday that was observed in the month of September to dramatize the ''autumn years of life.'' It was initiated in 1970 by Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade, a housewife in West Virginia, who thought of the idea of setting aside a day to encourage families to visit their elderly relatives. Senators Jennings Randolph and Robert Byrd filed a resolution to make Grandparents' Day a national holiday and the first Grandparents' Day was observed in 1973. However, it was not until 1978 that the resolution declaring the first Sunday of September as National Grandparents' Day was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter. The celebration spread to many other countries of the world, including the Philippines.

T

he Bible, in Proverbs 20:29, says “…the beauty of old men is the gray head.” We can all attest that we can benefit from the wealth of wisdom that can be shared and imparted by the elderly members of the household and workplace. We can always depend on them for advice. They serve as role models and are expert counsels when we make decisions for ourselves, our career, and our family. If we find them in the way of righteousness, their old age speaks of honor and commands respect (Proverbs 16:31). Today, let us treat them to something that will make them feel extra special. Serve their favorite food; bring them to visit places they love or have been wanting to go to: If they live distant from your home, pay them a surprise visit and bring them some gifts.

O

n the other hand, if they are found in the way of wickedness, the best gift they deserve is the recognition of the saving grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Such grace will cause their hoary head to be the crowning glory.

oreover, our Lolos and Lolas serve as our valuable links. They help us understand why we are where we are now, and why we should uphold timeless values. There is so much that the current generation can learn from our elderly. Let us take this valuable opportunity. Let us not limit our show of love and concern to this day. Let us make our Lolos and Lolas feel happy, secure, and needed as long as they live. Happy Grandparents' Sunday!

THE BLESSINGS OF DISCIPLESHIP

A

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

T

HE ISLAMIC STATE in Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS is a jihadist militant group that aims to obtain more land and create a pure Islamic nation. As a technique, it uses troops composed of youngsters aging 9-15. They are being trained to master the manipulation of AK-47 assault rifles, tripod-mounted heavy machine guns, and rocket-propelled grenades. As a distinction, they dress in full battle gear and black ski masks bearing the known logo of Al Qaeda. Recently, various media featured two young boys who remarkably began their training as the youngest jihadists. A 4-year old toddler, and a 13-year old Belgian boy named Younes Abaaoud, both considered as “cub jihadists,” joined the 5,000-strong army of teenage jihadists in their pursuit to outer jihad (which means struggle against the unbelievers), whose thrust is to make their shout heard: “Allahu Akbar,” the Arabic term for “God is Greater!” As Christians, we also have the struggle against the unbelievers. The big difference is that our weapon is not death-causing but life-giving as reiterated in 1 John 5:13 when Jesus said: “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

As these jihadists acquire complete knowledge or skill in using their fatal guns and explosives, we soldiers of Christ should also exert the necessary efforts in handling “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Eph. 6:17). As we learn the scriptures, just like any other skill, we must overcome the frustrations that accompany it - the feelings of inadequacy, the monotony of repeating a process until we have learned it, and the strong desire to quit or to find an easier way. God be praised that we in this church continue to adhere to the call of the Great Commission, that by way of discipleship, we learn to appreciate the works of the Spirit from the inspired and preserved Word of God. By giving diligence to the study of the King James Bible, we participate in the conquest not just of a geographical territory but of spiritual regions which the Devil tries to dominate with his wiles (Eph. 6:11). Also, through the careful study of the Bible, we shall make our calling and election sure, and that we shall never fall (2 Pet. 1:10). So then, dear parents, it will never be a loss to bring your children to Sunday School amidst their struggle in waking up early even on Sundays. Young people, sparing an hour to attend the Baptist Youth Fundamentalist service in the afternoon will surely aid you towards spiritual maturity. Working men and ladies, striving to grab a seat in the bus just to reach the church before 7PM for our Prayer Meeting will truly be rewarded! All these are parts of the training and studying to handle and learn the Word of God, which the Author Himself has entrusted His children as a weapon in spreading the life-giving truth.

We Thank You, God, For Your Word Beata B. Agustin

“Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”- 2 Timothy 3:7

T

HERE IS ALWAYS a learning to be acquired in any area of task or endeavour. It is a life-long process and is not attained by chance, it must be sought for ardently and focused on with diligence. However, with the onslaught of information available in our midst, the believers must always strive to exercise prudence. The learning process itself is beneficial, however if we are not careful, the content or substance of what we are learning may pose hazards detrimental to our walk in Christ. We easily adapt to learning those things that blaspheme God’s name. No matter how much we gain the knowledge of God, we shy away from opportunities of living and carrying them out in our lives because as humans, we regard God’s ways unpalatable to our liking. INFORMATION DOES NOT READILY MEAN TRANSFORMATION. When an unsaved person genuinely accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Personal Saviour, there is an undeniable compulsion within him to change as 2 Corinthian 5:17 attests, ” Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” That person’s life will be transformed and his attitudes concerning the Word of God will change. He will realize that the Bible is truly the holy, inspired Word of God. He will embrace that God’s Word is divinely inspired. The Apostle Paul wrote, " All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" - II Timothy 3:16. The Holy Scripture is the basis of all our belief. As the divinely-inspired Word, the Bible gives us God's perspective on how we should live. It offers His pardon for our sins, reveals His purpose for our lives, shows us how to live peacefully in a world of turmoil, and commands us to appropriate His power so we can be fruitful witnesses for our Lord Jesus Christ. Otherwise, we are warned, “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again

entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.” (2 Peter 2:20) KNOWING DOES NOT READILY MEAN GOING. When confronted with the light of the Scripture, an unbelieving person rejects the integrity of the Scripture altogether. As a result, he had no moorings on which to base his life and ministry. He is a skeptic and an outspoken opponent of the Christian faith. However, it is a greater tragedy for one to have accepted Christ and yet is far from exemplifying the teachings therein. It was Mahatma Gandhi, the great leader who led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world, who decisively said, “If it were not for Christians, I would have been a Christian.” How could we ever influence a godless world to repentance and acceptance if we are not changed ourselves. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible tells of God's great compassion for us and of His desire to have fellowship with us. The passage in John 3:16, perhaps the most beloved passage in the Bible, summarizes the depth of God's love for us. If we truly grasp the truth of the Scriptures, it reveals God's attributes. It tells us that He is Holy, Sovereign, Righteous, and Just; that He is loving, merciful, and kind; that He is gracious, patient, and faithful. We have no trouble trusting Him if we really understand who He is and how holy, loving, and wonderful His purposes are for us. DOING IS BELIEVING. Learning all that, God's Word imparts to us how to live holy lives and to be fruitful witnesses for our Lord. The more we read and meditate on His precious Word -- and let His Holy Spirit control our lives -- the more fruitful we become. Change is the end result of all learning. For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them. We must not evade our godly duties for hope of a delusional happiness…from a learning not based from God’s Word. The Lord promises us, “For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:8. Let our learning yield lives that abound for the cause of Christ.

We thank You, God, for exposing to us Your Word of soul’s salvation To grant us Your redemption so divinely great as a precious possession For our deliverance from hell’s damnation! Here’s now our praise of sanctified consecration… With our discipleship involvement for Your exaltation. We thank You, God, for expressing to us Your Word of heart’s delight To nurture us in Your goodness so graciously bright For our devotion coupled with gentle might! Here’s now our gratitude of humble prayer-plight… With our discipleship support toward Your truth and right. We thank You, God, for empowering us by Your Word of faith’s enhancement To drive us to Your kingdom so eternally settled for holy investment For our determination against worldliness’ entanglement! Here’s now our obedience of fervent commitment… With our discipleship effort according to Your commandment. We thank You, God, for enriching us by Your Word of spirit’s revival To guide us along Your mercies so plenteously abundant over earthly survival For our desire toward heavenly upheaval! Here’s now our worship of cheerful offering approval… With our discipleship participation till Your arrival. We thank You, God, for encouraging us thru Your Word of service’s fervor To supply us by Your provisions so bountifully sufficient midst need-clamor For our dedication constrained by love’s ardor! Here’s now our sacrifice of industrious labor… With our discipleship work along Your honor. We thank You, God, for establishing us thru Your Word of standard’s stability To protect us inside Your will so victoriously perfect in its entirety For our direction along Your controlling sovereignty! Here’s now our submission of meek sincerity… With our discipleship goal upon Your purity. We thank You, God, for equipping us by Your Word of stewardship’s fruitfulness To keep us within Your calling so steadfastly guarded around righteousness For our diligence upon responsibility’s effectiveness! Here’s now our faithfulness of joyful earnestness… With our discipleship success because of Your kindness.

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
