VOLUME 23 ISSUE 36 Sept. 8

from your Pastor

DR. ED M. LAURENA

What a joy to serve God! While majority of Christians may agree with that truth, we will not fully grasp it unless we become dedicated in our service and in our Christianity. It is because only then can we deeply acknowledge that we are serving a faithful God. Indeed, God is faithful because in spite of our inconsistencies, He still loves us. In spite of our disobedience, He sustains us. As our church keeps moving forward for Christ, let us seek to know more of His faithfulness, which can motivate us to be faithful and love Him more. Our Nehemiah project, our soulwinning efforts, our spiritual growth as individual Christians will be truly affected for the better as we realize more of God’s faithfulness to us. Finally, I would not want to fail to recognize you, dear grandparents in our church. It is the joy of our church to have you. As a fellow grandparent, I am glad to see you doing God’s will. As such, may we always be reminded of our big privilege and great responsibility of passing the baton of Biblical Christianity to the next generation. Thank you for being faithful in serving God! Have a wonderful grandparents Sunday and may God bless our services today!

Church Bulletin

A Grandparent's Love It seems like only yesterday Our lives were just beginning. Your love for us never failed, Our hearts continually mending.

You have pointed out the path And led us along the way; The wisdom you have planted, We each still hold today.

It is strange to watch the time fly Before our very eyes, Which reminds me of the blessing, That we have you in our lives.

You sheltered us through childhood And saw us through today, Taught us of the Lord above, About faith, and how to pray.

To have yet to feel the touch That's as gentle as your hand The closeness of our family One could never understand.

One day we'll all be in heaven Dancing on the throne, Praising God for giving us A family like we've never known.

As each of our lives Continue to change, Reflections of your love In each of us remains.

No matter where our lives may go, We will trust the Lord above And through it all always thank him for our grandparents love.

A PORT IN THE STORM

M

y grandmother was the one who took me to church at a young age and introduced me to Jesus. She was the one who raised me during the early years after my parents divorced. She was the one who prayed for me as I grew up, going between parents and providing a port in the storm when things got too tense with my parents. Had it not been for my godly grandmother, I shudder to think how my life would have turned out. Even though as an adult, I have often failed, her example to me has been my beacon and I thank God for her. To me, she was the epitome of Jesus in the earth. She truly expressed his love for me through her life.

BE RICH TOWARD GOD

G

randparents are often accused of spoiling the grandchildrenWhy? The children see grandpa sitting on the floor playing with his toddler grandchildren. The son or daughter is shocked and jealous: "Dad, I’m surprised. You never got down on the floor and played with me!" And he probably didn’t. He was to busy trying to be a success. But grandparents have lived long enough to learn some things To be a success seemed so important in those younger years, The older you get, the more you appreciate the quality time spent with loved ones. When you’re a grandparent, the quest for success pales in comparison to enjoying the beauty and genius of your little grandchild.

A STABLE LEGACY

T

he tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, rises more than 2,700 feet—over half a mile tall. It has 160 floors and is twice as tall as the Empire State Building in New York City. It is home to the world’s fastest elevator that travels at 40 miles per hour. The Burj Khalifa also hosts the world’s highest outdoor observation deck (on the 124th floor) and the world’s highest swimming pool (on the 76th floor). But the secret to the stability of this massive building is found underground. Before construction began to rise up, workers spent a year digging and pouring the massive foundation that supports the building. The foundation contains some 58,900 cubic yards of concrete weighing more than 120,000 tons. The building is safe because the foundation is solid.

Godly and righteous living is important as a matter of obedience, but there are also many wonderful benefits that follow as a result. When we live according to God’s principles of wisdom, we receive His blessing, but we also establish a firm foundation for our lives and our families. Ever since our children were small, I wanted to be sure that I left a godly legacy for them. Now that I am a grandparent, I’m even more reminded of the effect of my testimony on young lives. I want my grandchildren to grow up knowing that their parents and grandparents follow God. I want them to see as well as hear that we honor Him and obey His Word. I want them to be able to follow in my footsteps and serve the Lord. To see that happen, I must continue to lay the foundation of obedience that will give them that sense of stability and purpose.

BYCM HELD SUCCESSFUL BIG FRIDAY EVENT

raise and thanks be offered to God Who caused the Big Friday a big success! After the 3-month prayer, planning and preparation, this annual event hosted by the Baptist Youth Campus Ministry was victoriously held last September 6, 2013 at the CBBC Main Auditorium. A total of 177 attendees including 131 first time visitors from 7 high schools and 4 colleges in San Pedro and neighboring towns graced the occasion, which was done in two sessions, at 1:00 PM, and 4:00 PM. The core team mainly composed of Bible students started the day with a prayer covenant at 5:30AM, heartily begging the Almighty God for power. Indeed, they were answered as they witnessed before the end of the day how He worked faithfully. There was never a dull moment during the program because the students actively participated in singing, fellowshipping, picture taking, and more importantly listening to the preaching of the Word of God. A challenging message entitled “Light My Candle” delivered by Preacher Pops Villarosa surely brought a sincere realization to all the attendees as it was emphasized that like a candle, youthful strength is limited; thus, life would be most profitable if we let God use it for His glory! As this year’s theme “Carry the Light” suggests, there is no doubt that God’s light has shone brightly to the lives of the young people who have accepted Christ as their personal Saviour through this event. Meanwhile, the core team members composed of Bible students were all the more encouraged to carry God’s light to the campus, after witnessing how He worked faithfully in answering their prayers for the said occasion. As a church, let us continue to support ministry endeavors such as this.

G

od be thanked and praised for your desire, decision and determination to involve in our NEHEMIAH PROJECT. Since God is faithful in providing us, let us also be faithful in fulfilling our commitment for the realization of the project for His glory!

O

God's Faithfulness

ne of the most besetting and outstanding sins of this era is unfaithfulness. In the area of business and commerce, a man's word is, with exceedingly rare exceptions, no longer his bond. In the social world, marital infidelity abounds. The sacred bond of wedlock is being broken with as little regard as the discarding of an old garment. In Christianity, many who have vowed to preach the truth make no qualms to attack and deny it. We cannot claim complete immunity from this fearful sin. We could look back and count the ways in which we have been unfaithful to Christ, and to the privileges which God has entrusted to us. It is truly amazing then, how unspeakably blessed, to lift our eyes above this scene of ruin, and behold One who is faithful, faithful in all things, and faithful at all times. "Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generation" (Deut 7:9). This quality is essential to His being, without it He would not be God. For God to be unfaithful would be to act contrary to His nature, which is truly impossible: "If we believe not, yet He abideth faithful; He cannot deny Himself" (II Tim 2:13). Faithfulness is one of the glorious perfections of His being. He is indeed clothed with it: "O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto Thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?" (Psalms 89:8). So, too, when God became incarnate it was said, "Righteousness shall be the girdle of His loins, and faithfulness the girdle of His reins" (Isaiah 11:5). The word was penned in Psalms 36:5, "Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and Thy faithfulness unto the clouds." Far above all finite comprehension is the unchanging faithfulness of God. Everything about God is great, vast, incomparable. He never forgets, never fails, never falters, never forfeits His word. To every declaration of promise or prophecy the Lord has exactly adhered, every engagement of covenant or threatening He will make good, for "God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19).

Bible Reading

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
