VOLUME 23 ISSUE 38 Sept. 22
from your Pastor
DR. ED M. LAURENA
One of my greatest motivations in serving God is learning continually more about Him. We must realize that we are not just going through the Christian life because of a reward but because God is worthy of our service. Actually, we will not be enjoying true life without Him. Our sinful living deserves nothing but eternal punishment in hell, but by His love and mercy, we have gained assurance of Heaven and ability to serve Him. Knowing how merciful God is to us must always bring humility and desire in us to show others of His mercy. That is why we desire to mature in our faith, and to see our church grow, not just numerically, but most of all, spiritually. Our soulwinning ministries, church projects, outreaches, and mission works that we support are all avenues for us to show His mercy to others. Let us be the kind of Christian who will think more of others who are in need of Christ. Let His mercy motivate us! Please continue to pray for me as I minister here in our Taiwan outreaches. Let us ask God to give us a fruitful Sunday!

Happy Birthday! Ma’am Dhel Laurena September 27
We praise and thank the Lord for giving us Ma’am Dhel, the Pastor’s wife who exemplifies the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31. To God be the glory for her love, faithfulness and commitment to the Lord, to her family, and to the church. Ma’am Dhel, we thank God for your life. We thank you likewise for your care, compassion, and concern toward us. As you celebrate your blessed blissful birthday, we rejoice with you, along with our commendation, prayer, support and love.

THE MERCY OF THE LORD
t is astounding that a holy God is also a merciful God. When we contemplate of this character of excellency, we cannot do otherwise than bless God for it. His mercy is great (1 Kings 3:6), plenteous (Ps.86:5), tender (Luke 1:78), and abundant (1 Pet. 1:3). It is likewise "from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children" (Ps. 103:17). Furthermore, the LORD said, "...I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy." (Ex. 33:19). With such declaration, our response must be like what the Psalmist asserted, "… I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble" (Psalms 59:16). "The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works" (Psa. 145:9). He exercises His special mercy toward the children of men, helping and praying for them, notwithstanding their sins. To them also He communicates all the necessities of life, "...for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust" (Matt. 5:45). He also shows His sovereign mercy which is reserved for the heirs of salvation, that is communicated to us, children of

God, in a covenant way, through the Mediator, Christ Jesus. However, to continue in sin and yet reckon upon divine mercy remitting punishment is diabolical. Presumption shall most certainly be disappointed. Let us be warned by Deuteronomy 29:18-20 that all who despise and reject Jesus Christ’s lordship shall "perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little" (Psalms 2:12). Let our thought be of God’s spiritual mercies unto His own people. "For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds." (Psalms 57:10). Indeed, “for as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him" (Ps. 103:11). None can measure it. We, the elect, are designated "vessels of mercy" (Rom. 9:23). It is mercy that quickened us when we were dead in sins (Eph. 2:4,5). It is mercy that saved us (Titus 3:5). It is His abundant mercy which begot us unto an eternal inheritance (1 Peter 1:3). Time would fail to tell us of His preserving, sustaining, pardoning, supplying mercy. What we ought to do then is to show His mercy in considering the plight of the lost, and thanking Him with worshipful spirit, exclaiming, "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort" (2 Cor. 1:3).
A PRESIDENT'S FAVOR
elix Jardio, 60, a Filipino farmer had been saving his money for years to buy a carabao. He finally saved P1,300 and went out looking for the work animal, which he soon found. But alas, he did not know that the government had ordered all Philippine paper bills exchanged for the “Bagong Lipunan” issue, and his savings stashed up in the old currency issue were useless. And so in 1975, he sent a letter— with the help of some schoolboys—to the President. After all, he was only a poor, ignorant rice farmer. The answer came back.
It said: “The law must be followed. Because the deadline for exchanging bills has already passed, the government can no longer change your bills with the new ones. Even the President of the Philippines is not exempt from this rule.” The letter did not end there. It added: “However, because I believe that you really worked hard to save this money. I am changing them with the new ones from my own personal funds. I hope that you will be able to buy your carabao.” The letter was signed: “Your friend, Ferdinand E. Marcos, President of the Philippines.”
Mercy and Grace H
istory has seen many mighty conquerors and military-minded people. Stories are told of men who led thousands of troops across the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America to claim new land for their empire or kingdom. Many times brutal force was employed to accomplish their goal. One man who saw his kingdom expanded through force was Napoleon I of France, who reigned from 1804-1814. Napoleon's reign began by an overthrow of the current ruler, and his fighting didn't stop there. He led campaigns against the First and Second Coalitions, groups of European nations bent on overthrowing France's rule. Napoleon's attack on European superpowers even took on his name, the Napoleonic Wars. Later he also invaded Russia. Yet despite his force when dealing with enemies, one story shows a more merciful side of Napoleon. A young man had been arrested for

stealing from the royal palace twice. Sentenced to hang, the boy's mother sought mercy from Napoleon on behalf of her son. Napoleon answered the mother's plea, "This boy has stolen from my palace twice now; he deserves justice and that justice is death." The mother replied, "But I don't ask for justice, your highness. I seek mercy." "He does not deserve mercy," replied Napoleon. The mother passionately begged, "It would not be mercy if he deserved it." Touched by the mother's grief and passion, Napoleon consented and released the boy. The boy's mother was right-mercy is not deserved, but freely given. You can't earn mercy, nor can you pay for it. Mercy is not receiving something you deserve (in the boy's case he deserved punishment, but Napoleon showed mercy in releasing him).
ohn Newton said, "When I get to heaven I shall see three wonders there. The first wonder will be, to see many people there whom I did not expect to see. The second wonder will be, to miss many people whom I did expect to see. The third and greatest wonder of all, will be to find myself there."

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
