DR. ED M. LAURENA
As we gear ourselves toward our approaching Missions’ Conference, we thank God for preparing us through His Word and for enabling us through His power to see the need of sending missionaries. Our Sunday School theme this month that focuses on Discipleship Training is a great help to make us ready for this one great event in our church. Surely, the lessons on the values and virtues of training teachers, preachers, labourers and missionaries are rehearsing, reminding and reinforcing to us the importance of being involved in the Great Commission to advance God’s kingdom. Let us then continue doing our part in contributing to our church’s missionary endeavours. We are aware that “A heart with Jesus Christ is a missionary, while a heart without Jesus Christ is a mission field.” Being saved by the grace of God, we are called, commanded and charged by the Lord Himself to reach out to others, to share with them the Gospel, to declare to them the truth about the gloriousness of heaven, and to warn them of hell and its eternal tormenting fire. Let us get excited for our Missions’ Conference as we keep on serving God, being His witnesses (Acts 1:8), aiming always to “preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15) with His compassion and for His glory.

TRAINING LABOURERS Luke 10:2 / 1Corinthians 3:9
I. Through discipleship program, labourers are being trained to serve with love. A. Love for the souls of men must be an important basis of our labour. B. Love for the saints is also the basis of our labour. C. Love for the Saviour is the strongest basis of our labour. II. Through discipleship program, labourers are being trained to serve with loyalty. A. God expects His labourers to be faithful in few and small things. B. God expects His labourers to be faithful in many and big things. C. God expects His labourers to be faithful in all things. III. Through discipleship program, labourers are being trained to serve with longevity. A. Labouring for God needs a lifelong consecration. B. Labouring for God needs a lasting compassion. C. Labouring for God is a lifetime commitment.
ACTS 9:27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
The Value of Acceptance in Training Laborers “People grow the best when the atmosphere of acceptance is present.” We can expect a rapid growth of a new convert when he would always feel accepted. When he knows that there is someone whose hands are ever ready to pick-up and assist, he easily gets into his feet and rises up towards a great Christian walk. Barnabas was such an encouragement to Saul (Paul) when he gave the former persecutor a chance to live a life that is centered in Christ. The rest of the apostles feared Saul to be part of their assembly, but Barnabas understood the value of acceptance. May we be like this discipler, such that:
1. WE MUST BE WILLING TO TAKE RISKS.
What if Barnabas had not been willing to consider Paul? It is a risk to reach out to people and love them, invest in them, care for them, and mentor to them. However, if we fail in these areas, the church’s mission will be highly impacted in a negative way.
2. WE MUST LEARN TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.
Barnabas took the responsibility of taking care of Paul’s spiritual needs, seeing also that there was a great opportunity to grow and to be used mightily in the ministry. We need to be passionate in reaching all people for Christ, and be diligent in seeing those whom the Lord has already allowed us to reach spiritually!
3. WE MUST SHARPEN OTHER’S TESTIMONY.
Barnabas opened a door of chances for Paul to prove his conversion. It shall also be our priceless privilege to be part of a person’s victory over his past that he may find more meaning in stepping towards the fulfillment of God’s plan for him. Nobody knows how God will prosper a person who stepped out of timidity because there had been someone who impressed the essence and value of acceptance. The hands of Paul which were filled with blood of persecuted Christians were the same hands God mightily used to encourage the believers after him, and started many churches along his missionary journeys. Be a great encourager like Barnabas. We have to pass on investments of time, talents and even life to train laborers co-working with our great Master!
Let's Labour For The Lord Beata B. Agustin
Let’s labour for the Lord, being assured of His great salvation As He works in our transgressions along His constant sanctification For us to be purified while we share His Gospel of redemption… …Striving to win souls and help them grow with His compassion!
“Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?”- John 6:27-28 “In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.”- Proverbs 14:23. It is a fact that there is a labour that does not profit. Whether we are a teacher, scientist, plumber, entrepreneur, doctor, engineer or one who practices another profession, we are all ordinary people with good intentions trying to make a difference and leave our mark. But the question is what difference and what mark are we leaving in each of our respective niche in the society. May we choose to labour on things that will profit for God’s glory.
A
LABOUR THAT LIGHTS. It has been said, “Better to light a candle than curse the darkness.” Accordingly, this proverbial saying was first spoken in public by Peter Benenson, the English lawyer and founder of Amnesty International, at a Human Rights Day ceremony on December 10, 1961.The candle circled by barbed wire has since become the society's emblem. Darkness has long been a metaphor for ignorance or evil. The Bible contains hundreds of references to darkness, referring either to the period of ignorance before the realization of faith, death, or to the Devil; for example, in Romans 13: 11-12 “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” We must assert in ourselves what the Scriptures said in John 9:5, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
A
LABOUR THAT LIBERATES. There is one truth that liberates. Galatians 5:1 says, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore we must keep standing firm so as not to be subjected again to a yoke of slavery. Life takes its values from its goals and purposes. Most people's purpose in life is merely for the material and physical realm, so the things that they pursue in life and the means that they use to accomplish their goals bring them into bondage. Their goals are carnal, and the ways of reaching them are also carnal. As genuine believers in Christ, we must let the Word of God set to us the very highest of standards. The goal is the glory of God and the expansion of His Kingdom. No other goal has higher standards. It takes the pure Word of God to keep us strengthened and driven to accomplish this goal.
A
LABOUR THAT LASTS. It is tragic that so many people work tirelessly in vain. Their labours will mean nothing 100-years from now. There are millions of people in this world who are committed to empty causes, who spend their lives advocating things that are worldly and shallow, disregarding the truthfulness of God's Word. Many people have a sincere desire to help the misfortunate, but there is no concern for where their soul will spend eternity. The biggest lie of the Devil is that we are all God's children. Scripturally, no Christ-rejecter will ever step instead Heaven's gates. We must labour in “Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.”- Philippians 2:16 We must then choose to “…work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” - John 9:4
Let’s labour for the Lord, being brought to His perfect will As He works in our sinfulness along His character-transforming mill For us to be spiritual while in His holiness we stand still… …Striving to yield fruits and testimony of righteousness in the Christian role we fulfill! Let’s labour for the Lord, being upheld by His awesome faithfulness As He works in our iniquities along His ready forgiveness For us to be sincere while we minister to others despite our weakness… …Striving to give and offer our best thru His church by His graciousness! Let’s labour for the Lord, being charged with His authoritative command As He works in our disobedience along His stewardship-governing stand For us to be diligent while we toil toward the promised land… …Striving to serve and please Him thru our assigned errand! Let’s labour for the Lord, being moved upon His purposive aim As He works in our struggles along His victorious fame For us to be persistent while we seek Him and His promises claim… …Striving to pray and intercede fervently for revival’s flame! Let’s labour for the Lord, being enlightened by His guiding wisdom As He works in our slothfulness along His heavenly kingdom For us to be empowered while we optimize discipleship’s freedom… …Striving to avoid and overcome by His might routine-caused boredom! Let’s labour for the Lord, being kept within His eternal commitment As He works in our arrogance along His humility-driven contentment For us to be devoted while we persevere for everlasting fulfillment… …Striving to worship and praise Him in our godly involvement!

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
