from your Pastor We are so blessed in our country that our Almighty God is allowing us to enjoy the freedom to do His will according to the Bible. He is likewise granting us the wisdom to exercise such freedom to fulfil the Great Commission. Thus, we must excel, through His power and by His grace, in optimizing our spiritual freedom to advance His kingdom by winning souls, involving in discipleship, and in supporting missions. The Lord be praised and thanked for giving us the liberty to preach His Word and share the Gospel here in our place, without much, or without any grievous persecutions and intense threats. This I say after having visited last week a mission work in Vietnam that does not have the same comfort and convenience that we do enjoy here during worship services. I was personally inspired and once again challenged to continue establishing and supporting mission works that DR. ED M. LAURENA follow the Lord’s commands amidst difficulties. I believe that you are with me in this pursuit. Let us constantly pray for God’s favour and protection for our missionaries, brethren, and fellow Christians in countries where there are government interferences and/or religious oppression as far as proclaiming the good news of salvation through Christ Jesus is concerned. Meanwhile, let us do our best and utmost part as the Lord’s good soldiers who are dedicated to His cause, durable against conflicts, and deliberate midst choices (2 Timothy 2:3). Together, let us “be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:1).

THE BLESSINGS OF DISCIPLESHIP

OBEDIENCE TO THE HEAVENLY VISION

A

Acts 26:19

T THIS POINT, Apostle Paul was not anymore on his trial, but he was to defend himself – his very cause. There was no other way for him to answer the ruler but to state in detail how he had come to the point of conversion. “I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews (Acts 26:2).”

appeared in splendor. He knew it was the command of God, his Saviour; and he gave evidence of repentance by yielding obedience to it at once. He caught the vision of not only owning the salvation but going forth to others to testify of the same saving grace he received. Hence, his regeneration preceded his transformation. Of course, he had difficulties with people, even the apostles, seeing that the former persecutor was already following the God of his foes.

He began by affirming his manner of life from his youth (verse 4), and how he lived as a Pharisee (verse 5). He boldly expressed how he did many things contrary to the name of Jesus (verse 9). Until in the road to Damascus at midday, he said, “I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.”

His realization produced action. After having known that it was Jesus whom he persecuted, Paul immediately asked: “…what wilt thou have me to do? (Acts 9:6)” Without further ado, he went to Ananias to be baptized of him and then went on preaching; thus going to missionary journeys and establishing churches. This apostle realized that he was saved to serve.

Then what made such vision heavenly? Paul attested in verse 16 when the Lord was speaking: “for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee.” God’s appearance pushed Paul to obey the command of Him who thus

Every saved member of this church must capture the vision and furthermore be obedient to it. The Saviour’s vision is that the love of God be shed abroad in the hearts of men through the saving grace God freely gives to those who repent. May we be obedient to the vision lest we become worse than the blind, “having sight but living without vision.”

ONE OF US ever just stands still in one place. We are either progressing forward, or aimlessly drifting in this journey called life. Where we stand in this process is largely determined by whether or not we are motivated by a personal vision of God to us as His precious people. Proverbs 29:18 asserts, “Where there is no vision, the people perish…” When we know the vision of God for our lives, then we are motivated to work for its accomplishment. Christianity needs the revelation of God for us to be able to fulfil the purposes of God. Otherwise we finish up functioning religiously and that accomplishes nothing in the eternal purposes of God. Religiosity puts people on a perishing course but reality of our relationship in Christ puts us on a prospering course.

A

CCEPTANCE MUST FOLLOW VISION. In Habakkuk 2:1-3, the prophet penned “I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.” He was in a place of waiting, standing, watching and listening to God. God answered that stance and attitude: “And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” The voice of God creates vision within our spirit and heart. When He speaks, we need to capture and be captivated by what He is saying to us. We must have acceptance of God’s vision.

A

CTION MUST FOLLOW VISION. The Apostle Paul in Acts 26:19, confidently asserted to the king, “Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision.” The only way a vision could ever accomplish a great feat is if it is succeeded by action. Far too many times a Christian’s life and service become just a sorry excuse for existence, not because of a lack of vision but by a lack of action. In Acts 26:13-18, we read of Paul’s testimony of his encounter with Jesus Christ and the vision God gave him: “…But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.” What God spoke to Paul, Paul called it a “heavenly vision” and he was not disobedient to that heavenly vision. As a result, his life has been effectual to millions of lives, including every Christian who has read his writings. He acted by writing his vision and made it plain for the people to read and realize for themselves. We must have action corresponding to God’s vision. What profit would it produce if we profess to have the saving knowledge of Christ yet do not have the working vision it aims to accomplish? May we have a faith that works for the cause of the Saviour’s vision.

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
