from your Pastor
DR. ED M. LAURENA
It has been a great month of our Mission Emphasis! I praise the Lord that we were able to hear some pastors and a missionary who are doing great things for God through the church. Hearing what God is doing in other churches should be an encouragement to us, especially in knowing that we have a part in training some of them and in investing in their ministries. Such surely means that our investment is never wasted. The most important part of our Missions month also depends upon our response to what we have heard. As we wrap up this month’s emphasis today, I pray that every member would make a decision to cooperate and do his/her part to get the Gospel out. Whether it be across the street or around the world, there are still more souls to be reached and we need to have the same heartbeat as God has… missions. May every true believer be sensitive to God’s call and continue in supporting our missionaries through our faith-promise giving. Finally, I deeply appreciate your support while I was recovering from sickness. Your prayers and much more your faithfulness are indeed a blessing to me. I am so blessed to pastor a caring church.

LET DOWN THE NET
“Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.” In Luke 5:4, this was Jesus’ instruction to Simon who immediately answered, “Master, we have toiled all night, and have taken nothing...” Sometimes we are like Simon that we tend to complain seeing not even a fruit from our labour in the Lord’s work. After diligently knocking on doors, ardently distributing tracts, and fervently praying for new converts’ first Sunday attendance, we get frustrated when just a handful of people show up in church for worship. We, then, easily faint and feel afraid to let down the net again. However, we can see Simon’s faith working when he added: “nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” By this we realize that our cooperation in every church endeavour especially in the matter of missions requires faith as it covets positive response. Simon’s significant move to let down even a single net led to a huge catch of fish for an awaiting crowd by the shore. Furthermore, it drew a promising assistance from the neighbouring ships. Had it not been for their support to draw the net, it will totally break and the fishes will all be lost. Let us always remember that the Great Commission was neither addressed nor left to the apostles only. It was Christ’s charge to the church which He built, and therefore, worthy of every member’s act of cooperation. By God’s grace, through faith, we can heartily be fishers of men: letting down the net by means of preaching the word in season and out of season, involving ourselves in various ministries (as God enables us) and thereby drawing men unto Him.

1. What is Faith Promise? Faith Promise is a way of giving to world evangelism. Rather than waiting to respond to individual appeals as they come along, believers ask the Lord how much they should give to missions over the next year. They then commit to that annual total as a “Faith Promise.” Faith Promise thus makes missions giving strategic rather than sporadic. 2. Is there a scriptural basis for Faith Promise missions giving? Faith Promise giving makes us channels of blessing. In His covenant with Abraham, God said that through Abraham’s descendants, “all peoples of the earth would be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3) Faith Promise giving is a way of passing on the blessing. Read 2 Cor. 8 and 9. • It is done over a year’s timeframe (2 Corinthians 8:10). • It is more than we can afford (2 Corinthians 8:2-3, 2 Corinthians 9:6-15). • It reflects our personal commitments (2 Corinthians 8:5). • It is optional, although it does clearly demonstrate our love (Philippians 2:1-4; Luke 6:38, Romans 12:9-10). 3. Who should give to Faith Promise? Everyone! Children and youth may have less money than adults, but it’s crucial to train everyone in systematic giving and faith living. 4. What’s the relationship between Faith Promise and paying a tithe? Faith Promise giving is over and above the tithe. Tithing is a clear scriptural principle. Tithing re cognizes God’s ownership over us and all that we have. In practical terms, tithe money runs the local church and its ministries. Faith Promise is a way for us to give specifically to missions. Faith Promise giving expresses our desire that the whole world know what Jesus did for them.

9. Is this a pledge and will we be notified of our progress? This is a promise to God, not a pledge to the church. Our Faith Promise amount is between us and God. No one will notify us or keep track of our progress toward the commitment. 10. Who can make a Faith Promise? Anyone who wants to trust God and who wants to be used of God to get the Good News to the unreached can make a Faith Promise commitment (Luke 6:38, Proverbs 11:24-25). Youth and children are encouraged to participate in Faith Promise giving. 11. How long does our Faith Promise commitment last? Generally, Faith Promise commitments are made once a year during a missions conference, Revival, or some other special event. The weekly, monthly, or annual commitments extend for one year from that time. 12. What is the advantage of Faith Promise giving? One major advantage in giving to missions on a per week or per month basis is that we can give far more to missions that way than we can by giving one or two big sacrificial gifts per year. Faith Promise enables us to give to missions in amounts that reflect what we would like to do. Sacrificial gifts entail giving what we have available at the time of the offering. 13. Is Faith Promise the only way we can participate in missions giving? Not everyone chooses to give weekly or monthly through Faith Promise. Many times in response to our Lord’s direction we should give additional offerings that may include stretching the money He has already given to us.

involving in Mission Work “O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.” - Habakkuk 3:2
SOMETIMES, WHAT is perceived to be a hopeless event while it is happening, is actually an opportunity to help you find the strength you never knew was there. Looming before us is one of the greatest restoration efforts in the history of this country. How do you change a community, a nation heavily embroiled in the corruption and desecration of the spiritual? How do you disentangle yourself from the very things that fascinate you so that you can be of use to the Great Creator and Saviour? It has been well said that coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, and working together is success. There is success in cooperation, especially in cooperating in the vision and purposes of God for His children with regard to the most vital work of Missions. God's work is urgent and unifying. We must redeem the time while we can. The LORD is on a major overhaul of the moral, political, and spiritual landscape of the nation and we are commissioned to be participators of such noble task. A famous Christian thinker has eloquently expressed that ”The sound of our song will grow faint; the masterpiece we paint will fade; the books that we write will be forgotten; the work that we endeavor will be surrendered; and the body that we carefully nurture and adorn will eventually lie in the grave...” It is high time, as people of God, that we evaluate our life's contribution to humanity. Isaiah 64:6 exhorts, "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away." There is a great deal of worth in uniting to contribute to Gospel evangelization by way of soulwinning and mission giving. To say that there are many contributions to be made in life would be an understatement. This information age offers countless opportunities for investing our lives and influence, and the world is waiting for men and women who will unite to something significant. The majority of us may never find life to be a stirring adventure of great deeds as we go through the daily humdrum and grind of this thing we call life. Nothing we do on a human level is ever permanent so then the cooperation of the real believers in Christ in mission work is worthy and needful. It is only right that we should help our fellow men. The works of our hands will not endure; but unless we make the greatest contribution in the light of eternity, we do not go far enough. It is not until we help lead people to the Saviour that we can cooperate to serve humanity in the level of the Divine. Only when we deal with eternity can we expect the results to be perpetual. So it is that there is one contribution man can make that will be of lasting value. The souls that we win for Christ and those whose lives we have touched through our mission giving efforts will live on forever. Through eons to come, those whom we have brought before the Lord will stand as a living memorial to how we have cooperated with God's work while here on Earth. The greatest contribution of all, and the only one that will stand through all eternity, is to cooperate and be a part in bringing an immortal soul into the Kingdom of God. This is the cooperation that God requires from His precious people.
