from your Pastor
Ayon sa Hebrews 6:10, “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of DR. ED M. LAURENA love, which ye have showed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” Alalahanin natin ang sinabi ng Hebrews 12:28, “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” Tunay ngang “Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen” (Revelation 7:12).

SOULWINNING CLINIC CONDUCTED AT PNPA
FTER HAVING ACQUIRED their own Bibles which is their personal spiritual combat equipment and manual, the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Baptist Cadets showed their strong desire to serve the Lord. Consequently, they requested our beloved pastor, Dr. Ed Laurena for the conduct of a Soulwinning Clinic. This must be their ardent response to the challenge bestowed upon them during their victorious anniversary celebration last month which was themed: “Will You Be the One?” In coordination with Preacher Ronnie Delfin, the outreach incharge, Preacher Pops Villarosa was sent to facilitate the soulwinning tutorial last December 7, Sunday. The Baptist Cadets’ active participation in the conduct of the said activity immensely contributed to its success. Indeed, they were not too late to begin in embodying this year’s theme of Making Disciples. To God be the glory!
Paskong Kristiyano: Maluwalhating Ipinagdiwang sa CBBC
S
THE BLESSINGS OF DISCIPLESHIP
“Making Disciples in 2014” is the theme of our Church this year. It is anchored on Acts 6:1-7, and upheld by the phrases, “... when the number of the disciples was multiplied” in Acts 6:1, and “... and the number of the disciples multiplied” in Acts 6:7. With God’s guidance, such theme has propelled us to aim for a remarkable increase not just in terms of church attendance, but especially in the spiritual growth of members. As your Pastor, I can say that it is all by the grace and through the power of God that we have been able to strive in doing our best as a church in “making disciples.” For any significant increase, it is truly God’s accomplishment, not ours. I thank the Lord that our Sunday School lessons have been planned, prepared, prayed for, and presented prudently to cater to the discipleship needs of the believers. For twelve months, we have been taught with the following discipleship truths: Daily in the WordJanuary; Developing a Heart for God-February; Dedication in Fulfilling the Great CommissionMarch; Discipleship’s Attitude-April; Demonstration of Discipleship-May; Decision in Making Disciples-June; Determination of the Disciplers-July; Dangers in Not Involving in Making Disciples-August; Discipleship Benefits-September; Discipleship Conference-October; Discipleship Promotes Missions-November; Discipleship Strengthens the Christian HomeDecember. Moreover, I praise God for evidences and proofs that discipleship is indeed at work and alive in our church. Our Acts 29 Newsletter has highlighted various news, feature and literary articles on discipleship. It has also published notable testimonies of Area leaders and mission preachers asserting, affirming, and ascertaining that discipleship is vital in the growth and strengthening of an individual Christian’s faith and of a church’s ministry. Likewise, our Seven-stage discipleship sessions have been well-monitored, and I give glory to God for an increasing number of members who are involving. Furthermore, I am blessed with the good report of Area leaders regarding area soulwinning, visitation, Bible studies, as well as members’ church attendance, giving and support. I commend all the members who are actively, willingly and joyfully committing themselves to be fruitful disciples of the Lord. Together, let us constantly grow in God’s grace, increase in His wisdom, and continue making disciples, as we keep on depending on the Holy Spirit and following His leading. Let us truly have the desire, decision, determination, dedication and delight to become Jesus Christ’s disciple. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58).

BAPTIST HERITAGE BIBLE COLLEGE AND CBBC SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF HELD RESPECTIVE CHRISTMAS FELLOWSHIPS
T
WO OF CBBC’S educational ministries recently concluded the year 2014 by joyous fellowships. Last Tuesday night, December 16, collegians and members of the faculty from our very own Baptist Heritage Bible College (BHBC) assembled for a celebration of God’s faithfulness in the year that had passed. Though the weather did not permit the crowd to experience a fresher catch of the yuletide breeze at the roof deck as originally planned, the vast space at the second floor allowed them to enjoy a blissful program prepared by the students themselves. It was surely a time of merriment as everybody enjoyed singing beautiful Christmas hymns and watching hilarious but meaningful skit presentations centered on the event’s theme: “Keep That Which I Have Committed” from 2 Tim 1:12. The students showed that the multi-faceted fulfillment of being in the ministry is only made possible through grace as the Lord and Saviour Jesus who keeps their personal commitments alive in serving Him until He comes. The attendees were all the more boosted that night when Ptr. Ed dela Pena preached on Jephthah’s conviction when he said in Judges 11:35, “I cannot go back.” Thus, BHBC President Dr. Ed Laurena, for a closing remark, reinforced the message of keeping
on as the New Year 2015 nearly begins. Meanwhile, those in the School for the Deaf had their turn of gathering in the true spirit of Christmas last December 19, Friday. With the presence of 9 teachers, the students and their parents, no one can afford to be silent because there was no enough room for their delight in fun and fellowship. They were all divided into 5 groups which were distinguished by respective color assignments. From each group were representatives who joined the games and competitions on solo and choir singing, preaching, Sunday School teaching and drama acting (all expressed, of course, by sign language). Preacher Elmer Panizales, one of the faculty members, exhorted a Bible passage which brought great challenge to everyone present. To highlight the essence of giving, 10 students were chosen to receive and take home a special grocery package. Truly, the heart of every Christian happening is the exaltation of God’s glory! With these events, students did not only have much fun but that they were reminded of how our loving God gave His only begotten Son for our salvation, that He who came here, by the name Jesus, gave everything for man’s redemption. Praise God for His wonderful love!
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Tagumpay ng Isang Tahanan: Saan nga ba Nakasalalay?
SANG QUOTATION NA nagmula kay George Herbert ang mainam na pagaralan kaugnay ng usapang tahanan at ang tagumpay nito, “God hath often a great share in a little home.” “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt… Matthew 6:19”.
Psalm 127:2, “It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.”

O
VER THE COURSE of each of our individual lives, the culture of the times, the anti-God world system pushes the five P's: Power, Position, Prestige, Pleasure, and Prosperity to define success. Advertisers tantalize us with the possibility of their attainment and the media glamorize the results of having them. These are not bad things in and of themselves but, they are not the ultimate or even major measurements of success according to God's standards. As Christians, we should strive to have good success according to God’s plan, along His purpose, based on His precepts, with His principles, through His power, and for His praise. Thus: We should not chase for the cheap. The great Russian intellect Alexander Solzhenitsyn said, "We always pay dearly for chasing after what is cheap." Certainly, material success typified by the five P's does not necessarily result in devastation. In fact, power, position, prestige, pleasure, and prosperity are rather amoral-neither good nor bad from a moral position. It is the use or abuse of these that determines the outcome. It is worth noting that the Beatitudes in the Scriptural account in Matthew Chapter 5 each begins with "blessed," which is the most universal concept for success throughout the entire Bible. God wants us to be blessed and to be successful but He wants us to succeed His way. We should not cleave for the clays. Some of the well-known pathos of the famous millionaires known to men have expressed the following: "I have made many millions but they have brought me no happiness" by John D. Rockefeller; "The care of two hundred million is enough to kill anyone. There's no pleasure in it" by William Henry Vanderbilt; "I am the most miserable man on the earth" by John Jacob
Astor; and "I was happier when doing a mechanic's job" by Henry Ford. We must move away from thinking of success as power, prosperity, position, pleasure, or prestige and begin building a definition of success around real values. Biblical success is the progressive realization and internalization of all that God wants us to be and to do. We should note that success from God's perspective is progressive. It is not static and it does not deal just with the results. Success deals with the process ... the journey. God makes it clear that He wants us to focus on the roots and not just the fruit of our lives. We must let God take care of the results while we focus on doing the right things. We must work on what we can control-like our attitude, our obedience, our thoughts, our words-and we must let God produce what He will. If we do not do these, we will have a tendency to "fake it." We will put our focus on how we appear outwardly versus cultivating who we are internally. Let us remember that God hates a pretext to perfection. He deeply desires our progression into His likeness. There is a difference between progressing and pretending to progress. A real, authentic Christianity notes how easy it is to make others believe that we are spiritually mature. It is possible for the Christian to avoid the pain and humiliation of repentance and renewal by maintaining an outward facade of spiritual commitment, moral impeccability, and orthodox behavior. In doing so, he can preserve a reputation for spiritual growth and maturity that is satisfying to the ego and seems to gain much in the way of opportunity for service and the commendation of the Christian community but it is not the way God wants us to proceed in our Christianity. Biblical success involves progressing in our character and conduct. If we are godly in the truest sense of the word, what we do will glorify God, for it will be a by-product of our faith. God has placed us Christians here to share our faith, lead the lost to Christ, help other Christians mature in their faith, and to influence society to a truly good success.

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
