we need to do is to seek Him sincerely, and such is what we ought to do for our Church’s Anniversary preparation and celebration. Actually, the best time to start being revived is now. So, I charge you, by the grace of God that you let the Lord work in you through your personal involvement in today’s church activities for you to experience the joy of getting revived. Moreover, I enjoin you to be present on Friday for our scheduled Lord’s supper. Likewise, your prayer and support for our revival meetings are also expected. Let us bear in mind that we can never be revived if we are not going to pray for it. Together,

DR. ED M. LAURENA

let us work for the glory of God through this month’s anniversary endeavors in soulwinning, giving Gospel tracts, inviting, followingup of visitors, contributing our resources, and praying.

CBBC Taiwan Outreaches Update

T

O see souls saved and lives changed has always been the goal of our church. This truly has been evident in our mission works in the country of Taiwan. Already in three different places, namely Kaohsiung, Taichung and Jhongli, the power of God’s hands is undeniable. Last January 22, CBBC Jhongli Outreach, led by Preacher Julius Marcos, celebrated their 2nd Anniversary. Though busy with their respective jobs and without full-time workers, handful of members, mostly new converts prayed and worked hard for their big day. God blessed the event with 158 in

attendance, 102 visitors and many accepting Christ as their personal Saviour. Their annual Winter Camp also manifested God’s power. Held last January 26-28, an average of 90-100 campers gathered every day for fellowship, fun and preaching. With many new converts, and some unsaved friends, God used this event to save souls, to move Christian to renew their commitments and to let revival take place. Let us involve and pray that God would continue to use our church to bear fruits so they may bear more fruits also for His glory!

Let us all involve in our scheduled grand follow-up and visitation on February 17 (Friday), and Motorcade on February 18 (Saturday) for the success of our Anniversary month.

One of the two ordinances that the Lord gave to the local church is the Lord’s Supper. Many false teachings have arisen through the years about this important doctrine. The Lord’s Supper is a memorial service, a time when we remember the suffering death of our Lord. Some teach that the bread and wine actually become the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. They teach that you cannot be saved if you do not take their Holy Communion. Studying the Bible will help us establish truth and expose error as we look at this important doctrine. THE INSTITUTION In Matthew 26:20-25, we have our Lord instituting the Lord’s Supper with His disciples in the upper room on the night before His crucifixion. In Luke 22:19-20, the phrase, “This do in remembrance of me” was mentioned. THE INSTRUCTIONS In I Corinthians 11:23-32, the Apostle Paul gives us instructions as to how the church is to carry out this Memorial Service. 1. THE PURPOSE In I Corinthians 11:24-25, we read, “This do in remembrance of me.” This gives the purpose for our observing the Lord’s Supper. It is not just some religious ritual. It is not a part of the salvation of our souls. It is a time when we remember and reflect upon the suffering death of the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. THE PRODUCTS The Scriptures plainly teach what products were used in observing the Lord’s Supper. Jesus used the unfermented fruit of the vine to symbolize his shed blood, and unleavened bread to symbolize His sinless body. Some churches actually use and believe that the Lord used fermented wine. The Bible erases any doubt about this. In Proverbs 20:1, the Bible says, “Wine is a mocker, and strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” The Lord would never use wine, and then instruct us to do so when He has already condemned it in His Word. The unfermented fruit of the vine speaks of the pure, sinless blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Juice only ferments when there are some additives put into it. Christ’s blood does not have, nor does it need, anything added to it. His pure blood alone is sufficient to redeem all sinners. Likewise leaven is a type of sin every time it is mentioned in the Scriptures. The unleavened bread speaks of the fact that Christ Jesus lived a life without sin all the years He lived here on the earth. 3. THE PREPARATION Approaching the table of the Lord’s Supper is not something that is to be done without preparation. Before a baptized believer can be fully prepared to partake of the Lord’s Supper there are three looks that he must make. The first one is the backward look -- examine the sufferings of the Lord. This will put a believer into the right spirit to proceed in a manner that will glorify God.

The second look is the forward look – be reminded of the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is not only a proclamation of his suffering, but also a promise of his Second Coming. At the table Jesus told the disciples in Matthew 26:29, “I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, UNTIL that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” The third look to take is an inward look – examine self before participating in the Lord’s Supper. In I Corinthians 11:28-29, the Bible says, “But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.” Coming to the Lord’s Supper is a very serious time of self-examination and confession of sins should always precede coming to the Lord’s Supper. It should be a time of getting right with God and with fellowman. It is very important to notice that the word unworthily was used and not unworthy in verse 29. Unworthily means to take the Lord’s Supper with known sins in our lives. If it were the word unworthy, all would be left out, because no one is worthy in his own self to sit down at His table. 4. THE PROCLAMATION When a believer partakes of the Lord’s Supper, he is proclaiming his faith in the Scriptural account of the suffering death of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is proclaiming his faith in His promise to come again, and he is also proclaiming to our church that he has examined himself and there is nothing between the Lord and him. 5. THE PERIOD Nowhere does the Bible give a definite period of time when a local church is to observe the Lord’s Supper. Neither was it told in the Bible how often that it is to be observed. The Bible simply tells in I Corinthians 11:25, “as oft as ye drink it...” The Lord’s Supper should not be observed so often that it loses its real meaning. At the same time, the church should not be careful that they become negligent, and not observe it often enough for people to stay familiar with what it represents. 6. THE PARTICIPANTS The Bible clearly teaches that it is an ordinance that is given only to the church for saved people and should not be observed anywhere, anytime, unless it is under the authority of a local New Testament Church. It is known as closed communion. This means that only members of a local church are allowed to participate in the Lord’s Supper.

The purpose of revival is to make God not men, famous; to focus the eyes of the people, not upon human leaders, but upon the Divine Leader; to give glory not to great men but to a great Savior. Revival is a sovereign act of God upon the church whereby He intervenes to lift the situation completely out of human hands and works in extraordinary power. Jesus Christ is unique, and one cannot be in His presence and not reveal the man He really is. Jesus pulls each person from behind his mask. In the exposure of that bleeding love on the cross, men become what they really are. You may think you are wonderful until you stand in the presence of the One Who is purity itself. It is the pure light of God that pierces a man. You can keep up your pretense of being holy until you stand in that light. Then immediately there is nowhere to hide, all your masks are torn away; all your hollow smiles fade. Revival means to be exposed for what we are. The presence of the Lord is revealing. Revival, as we have seen, is the coming of the inexpressibly sweet and tender Spirit of God into the midst of His people, with convicting and transforming power. The outpouring of God’s Spirit is the divine aspect of revival, the preparation of heart for revival is our part. Many of the promises of God given in the Scriptures are made conditional upon our preparation of heart to receive them, or our lack of preparation. The responsibility of bringing about revival lies squarely on our shoulders. The true secret of revival is Christians getting right with God, whatever may be the cost to them. As we meet God’s conditions, He will send revival. 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

testimonies of  Joyful Involvement  from the Jolly 60s Sunday School Class

We praise God for encouraging, enabling and empowering us to involve in His work through our church. We thank Him likewise for our brethren who are resolved to involve by His grace, through His leading, and for His glory. May their testimonies inspire us to do our part in the fulfillment of the Great Commission. Bro. Chito Coronel and Sis. Fe Coronel I got saved on November 23, 1993 when I was in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, a country where there was no religious freedom and where Christianity is hated most. My wife, Fe, got saved in April, 1996. That same year, my two children, Christianne and Viktor, got saved, too. From that time on, we became members of this great church by virtue of our baptism. For 27 years, I was an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), practicing my profession as a mechanical engineer in the Middle East and in Eastern Europe. My wife and I stayed in Moscow, Russia for more than two years before I finally decided to retire in June 2010. After Moscow, we resided in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro to fulfill our plans and dream of spending our retirement years in a quiet and fresh-aired countryside. Meanwhile, we served the Lord through a Mission work sent by CBBC, Taguig in the nearby town of Bongabong. My wife taught in the children’s Sunday School, and I did some help for the mission’s Pastor. However, we always longed for our mother church, CBBC, San Pedro. We missed the red-hot preaching, the fellowship, and all the activities in the church. That yearning moved me to ask God to show me what I was supposed to do. I thank God for answering my prayer when I was offered a consultancy job in Makati. Thus, in December 2010, we found ourselves back here in CBBC, San Pedro where we again regularly attended church services to hear the preaching and enjoy the fellowship with the brethren. Despite the blessings I was getting through the church and the job I like most, I felt some emptiness in my heart. At the middle of last year, I prayed to God to help me work on the areas where I have failed Him so that I can draw closer to Him. I praise Him for leading me to get involved in the ushering ministry. I first started as an observer after talking to my area leader about it, until I was given my ushering assignment through Pastor Ed. Months later, I volunteered to join the church building maintenance ministry. In December last year, I was told by our Pastor to teach the senior citizens in the Adults’ Sunday School, and that my wife will lead the senior ladies’ fellowship. I was speechless in front of our Pastor, having in mind that I do not have the formal Bible training, which I understood is a basic prerequisite for such task. Nonetheless, I have to obey and trust God to give my wife and me the wisdom and knowledge that we need for this new involvement. Now, we are serving the Lord together, and with the new steps of obedience we are taking, we are truly experiencing the joy and blessings of the Lord which we have not known before. Yes, “…I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry” I Timothy 1:12. It is indeed a great privilege to serve the Lord. To God be the glory!!! Sis. Rosario S. Dalde I thank the Lord Jesus Christ for saving me on April 25, 1996, and for letting me become a member of CBBC through my baptism in 1996. I also thank God for using Pastor Ed and his family as great blessings for me. Likewise, I thank the Lord for every preaching that hear from His Word which helps me in my Christian life. I can say that I have learned so much from this church. One of the important lessons I learned, which I am enjoying to live by, is the truth that there is no age limit in serving God and in involving in His work. I am so thankful to God that He put me in the choir ministry, and that He also allowed me to study in the Bible College. I am now 70, and I always pray that God will increase my life so that I can serve Him more, while I am “looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works” Titus 2:13-14.
