Brgy.

Contributed by DTI

GEMI A BREAK GEMI FORMARAN

We may run out of doctors! This was the simple content of a text message sent to me last Thursday by Manong Johnny (Glorioso), a veteran newspaper and radio man, who is the editor/ publisher of this weekly paper. With such a generous invitation, how could I say no to a good friend whom I consider a contemporary (not in age, of course). Manong Johnny whom his former best friend, Sonny Mallari, fondly called MJ, started as a provincial correspondent for DzMM in 1988. I became part of the local media circle as a field reporter of DzLT, the year after. One good thing about MJ is his being good when it comes to courting. His lowing wife, former Board Member and now Kapitana Precy, knows this very well! Peace, Tita Precy! Knowing MJ as a good partner and co- worker, I didn't think twice and promptly

accepted the invitation. So, I quickly replied, "Kailan ba ako nakatanggi sa iyo, Manong"! And that was it! _o0o_ Prominent Quezon businessman Boy Pardilla has filed administrative complaints against two Sariaya policemen, namely, SPO1 Erald Cristobal and PO1 Ireneo Alivio. Quoting his gasoline boy, Pardilla said the two cops had refused to run after the fleeing robbers on an Elf Tanker shortly after the heist. Pardilla said the four pistol- wielding male robbers barged into Maxx Gas Station at Bgy. Guis- Guis at around 4:00 a.m. and at gun point took its P6,000 cash earnings. The robbers then started filling the tanker with 1, 487 liters of diesel and 1, 800 liters of gasoline amounting to around P300,000. In a phone interview, Pardilla disclosed that right after the robbers left the gas station, the boy who was left unharmed, rushed and sought

(JOHNNY GLORIOSO)

assistance to the nearby Police Action Center some 100 meters away and manned Cristobal and Alivio but the duo did not react immediately. He told this writer that it was the second time that such incident happened in the gas station. Pardilla said it was on July 25, 2013 when the establishment was first robbed by armed men using the same tanker. The actuation shown by these two cops makes Pardilla suspects that they are in cahoots with the robbers. In fairness to the town police chief, the two cops were promptly ordered relieved from their posts effective that day. Saying his initial findings show that there was negligence on the part of his two policemen, Chief Insp. Joel de Mesa also ordered that the duo be investigated, and administratively charged, if necessary Knowing his track record, I believe De Mesa never tolerates erring policemen under his command. It has been proven that most of the time, the good image of police commanders get tarnished due to the inefficiency and negligence of their subordinates particularly their men in the field. Pardilla who hails from Aurora, Quezon owns a number of Maxx Gas stations not only in Quezon but also in other provinces of Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions. His family owns vast of productive lands in the Bondoc Peninsula and the famous Silangang Nayon Resort and Restaurant in Pagbilao, Quezon. The businessman's younger brother, Johnson "Jing" Pardilla is a respected oil and rice miller. The Pardilla family contributes a lot to the province for around 4 decades in terms of employment and taxes! I wish this family would not totally lost its trust to the police and come up with an idea of pulling out their multi- million investments in the province just because of the few rotten eggs in the police service!

_o0o_ Its now an open book that a newly promoted police Senior Superintendent (Colonel) is dreaming to become the director of Quezon Police Provincial Office which is now under the stewardship of Senior Supt. Ronnie Ylagan in acting capacity. The police official who is now assigned in Camp Crame is reportedly using the governor's mommy and daddy to make his dream come true. So far, I don't see any valid reason why Ylagan, a decorated police officer who just took the post a few months ago should be replaced this early. Ylagan was appointed by no less than the Chief, PNP based on his track record and colorful police career. A pride of Philippine Military Academy Class 1990, Ylagan is a native of Gumaca, Quezon. As far as I know, Gov. Jayjay has already wrote a letter to Director General Alan LM Purisima confirming Ylagan as full pledge police director of the province. Secondly, the aspiring police official is eyeing a key position that is no longer vacant. So why is this guy seeking the post? If you're going to ask me who this guy is, sa totoo laang ay inde ko baya alam. Ako ngani ay mahina pagdating sa tsismis. _o0o_ Saying it is absolutely unfair on their part, members of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) are crying

foul over a tax campaign advertisement of the Bureau of Internal Revenue. The association president, Dr. Leo Olarte said the group would not tolerate tax cheats among its ranks. he half- page ads that appeared in a national broadsheet shows a female medical doctor riding piggyback on a female teacher portrays the former as a tax cheat. BIR Commissioner Kim Henares was quick to explain that the print ad was based on numerous complaints received by the BIR from individuals that their doctors were not issuing receipts. She said its also based on actual data collected by the bureau that shows significant discrepancy between taxes paid by doctors and their estimated incomes. Saying the bureau has nothing personal against doctors, the latter should not take the print ad personally, said Henares. If I will be asked, there is nothing wrong with that print ad. Those medical practitioners who are paying their taxes religiously and accurately should not be hurt with the ads message. Only those delinquent tax payers are the ones who should react. I personally agree with the allegations that are so many doctors who do not issue receipts to their patients during medical consultations. Quezon alone has so many doctors whose professional fees are so high, making their patients more sicked due to stress and high blood pressure. We even have doctors who own or co- own drug stores. Though legal, we consider it as highly immoral. No wonder why many rich doctors become richer everyday. With all the given facts, some friends of mine in the barber shop suggest that erring doctors especially the tax cheats should be prosecuted and jailed once proven guilty.

TRUTH ALWAYS PREVAILS

March 8 is day of accountability – Gabriela

“Women will hold President Benigno S. Aquino III accountable over the continuing negligence of the victims of super typhoon Yolanda, the worsening poverty experienced by women and their families and the worsening corruption.” – Gabriela MANILA – Criminal negligence, worsening poverty and corruption, these are the key issues that progressive women’s group Gabriela will highlight on March 8, International Working Women’s Day. Every year, Gabriela commemorates International Working Women’s Day by highlighting burning issues that greatly affect women and their families. This year, the largest women’s organization in the Philippines would highlight the plight of the victims of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) who have been neglected and abandoned by the government of President Benigno S. Aquino III for the past four months, as well as the plight of women, in general, who are sick and tired of Aquino’s negligence and utter disregard for the welfare of the poor in favor of big local and foreign

businesses. Joms Salvador, secretary general of Gabriela said March 8 is the day of accountability. “Women will hold President Benigno S. Aquino III accountable over the continuing negligence of the victims of super typhoon Yolanda, the worsening poverty experienced by women and their families and the worsening corruption.” Criminal negligence Salvador criticized the Aquino administration’s sluggish response to the needs of victims of typhoon Yolanda. “There has been no rehabilitation in the devastated areas in Eastern Visayas. The condition of the survivors of the typhoon has never improved but is worsening instead,” she told Bulatlat. com in a phone interview. March 8 will also be the fourth month after typhoon Yolanda struck Eastern Visayas. Last

January, People Surge, an organization of survivors of the typhoon went to Manila to personally voice out to the government the real condition and the demands of the people of Eastern Visayas. In a forum, Jessica Danatinao, convener of People Surge and who is also from Leyte and a victim of the typhoon said the affected people in Eastern Visayas have never been okay. “They should go to the different places in the region, people are suffering from hunger. Many still don’t have houses.” Mothers are poorer Women and their children suffer more under the government of Aquino, Salvador said. Contrary to the claims of inclusive growth by the government, the Center for Women’s Resources said poverty incidence remains high at 25 percent. “Despite having

Quezon police director, Senior Supt. Ronaldo Ylagan (2nd from left) briefs the 50 newly graduated Police Officers 1 as they render their courtesy call at the provincial headquarters in Camp Guillermo Nakar, Lucena City. The 50 rookie cops were sent by the PNP Regional Public Safety Battalion to the province to augment with different Police Assistance Centers scattered in the province under Quezon Provincial Public Safety Company (QPPSC). an expensive poverty reduction program like 4Ps [Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, the local version of the conditional cash transfer program], the poverty incidence did not significantly change from 26.6 percent in 2006. Conservative estimates peg the number of poor Filipinos at 23.7 million. The regions with the highest poverty incidence are the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Bicol and the CARAGA region,” the CWR 2014 Ulat Lila report read. Salvador also said prices of basic commodities and utilities also continue to increase under Aquino. Salvador also said privatization of services like health also intensified under Aquino. “Privatization further marginalizes the poor. It worsens their (the poor) conditions by not having access to basic social services like health,” she said. The modernization project of the Philippine Orthopedic Center (POC) has been awarded and will start the construction this year should the Supreme Court not grant the petition for Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) filed by patients and employees of the said hospital. Salvador said women would also hold Aquino accountable for the gross corruption under his administration. She said that despite claims of the Aquino government that it is taking the righteous path, those who are liable to the pork barrel scam have not yet been punished. “The Disbursement Acceleration Program (worth P1.3 trillion or $30 billion) despite criticisms

is still under his office and the president would not even let go of it.” Why women should join March 8 protest On March 8, in Metro Manila alone, Gabriela said, they are mobilizing at least 10,000 women from all walks of life to show this government that women are a potent force to contend with. At 2:00 pm, women from different sectors will assemble at the Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila. A program will be held until 3:30 and will march going to Chino Roces Bridge (former Mendiola Bridge) where they will have a program until 6:00 pm. “Women have had

enough. Four years under Aquino, the plight of the poor women became even poorer and with the dire poverty, women are more vulnerable to abuse,” she said. “Let it be remembered that women played an important role in our history, in ousting a dictator and also a corrupt womanizer. We are getting impatient with Aquino’s incompetence, negligence and of being ignored. On March 8, women will send him a strong message that President better gets his act together or face the wrath of women scorned,” Salvador said. ANNE MARXZE D. UMIL reprinted from bulatlat. com
