I was enrolled in the extensive classes, which is 9 hours per week over 3 days. I took the morning classes so that I could spend the rest of the day visiting places in Paris. The classes are a huge mix of nationalitiesAustralia, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Brazil, Greece, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Italy, USA... and I made many friends! I had a wonderful time staying with a French family. I stayed with them at their house in the southern suburbs of Paris during the month of May. I was very nervous when I arrived in Paris and met them for the first time but they made me feel at home very quickly. They were very patient with me and also very eager to learn more about Australian culture. I have remained in touch with my family and have been invited back to their home on several occasions. Overall, I truly believe that choosing a homestay in conjunction with taking the classes was one of the best decisions I have ever made- it was fantastic and I highly recommend it. It was a wonderful experience and I learnt so much about the French culture and what it is like to live in France” Libby Crozier Student at Alliance Française de Melbourne

2011 Highlights The Jeudi Jazzy takes place on a Thursday evening each month in the Alliance Française’s decidedly funky basement. Come listen to jazz musicians who perpetuate St Kilda’s artistic and rhythmic tradition. The French Film Festival, the biggest foreign language film festival in Australia, is also the most established and prestigious. Our 2011 edition takes place from 9 to 27 March in five cinemas across Melbourne, where more than 47 recent French films and documentaries will be screened. During the Fête de la francophonie from 28 March to 2 April 2011, we celebrate the vitality of the French language, spoken by a global community of 200 million people. On 21 June each year, during the Fête de la Musique, music is given pride of place in festivities spanning France and a hundred other countries during the northern hemisphere summer solstice, which is the winter solstice down under. Everyone is invited to come play and share through music on this day. France’s national celebration on 14 July, Bastille Day, is the perfect occasion to come together and dance.
