Let yourself be tempted by the French experience!
The Alliance Française de Melbourne is an Australian non-profit association dedicated to the promotion of the French language and culture. Founded in 1890, it is the oldest Alliance Française in Australia and part of a national network of 31 Alliances Francaises belonging to a worldwide network of 968 institutions in 136 countries. The premier language school for French in Victoria with more than 2200 students enrolled last year, we provide a large variety of courses for adults, teenagers and children. The Alliance Française offers specialised courses, private tuition, workshops, outings to museums or restaurants, school visits, the Berthe Mouchette poetry competition, immersion days…. and teaches all levels, all ages, from 3 years old! Located in the heart of St Kilda in the superb Victorian era Eildon Mansion, the Alliance Française de Melbourne possesses unrivalled expertise and relies on a dynamic administrative team as well as twenty five native French-speaking teachers. It is also and importantly a vibrant cultural centre that offers a rich and varied program throughout the year, in partnership with institutions across Melbourne: exhibitions, talks, concerts, and of course, the highly anticipated Alliance Française French Film Festival in March each year.

Tests and Diplomas Do you need to have your competency in French assessed and certified in order to enrol in a French university? Do you plan to migrate to France or to another French-speaking country such as Canada? The Alliance Franรงaise de Melbourne is accredited by the French government and the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry to run all the French language tests allowing you to achieve your goals!
French Tests TCF & TEF
Both tests allow non-native speakers of French wishing to study in France or to move to Canada to obtain a simple, yet effective evaluation of their skills in comprehension and expression in general French.
TCFQ & TEFAQ
These tests have been specially designed to be consistent with the standards of the Ministry of Immigration and Cultural Communities (MICC) of Quebec and are only intended for non-native speakers of French wishing to settle in Quebec.
Sessions will be organised throughout the year. Please log onto our website for more information: www.afmelbourne.com.au or email Aurelie Pierre at education@afmelbourne.com.au

Delf & Dalf What are they?
Issued by the French Ministry of Education, the DELF and DALF exams are designed to assess the communicative skills of a candidate in a real-life situation and to evaluate know-how (writing a letter, asking for information, exchanging opinions, etc.) rather than the linguistic and formal grammatical knowledge.
Why should I take these exams?
Contrary to other language tests, DELF and DALF diplomas are valid for life. They are recognised everywhere in the world and valued by French and European employers. Furthermore, for admission to a French university the DELF B2 diploma is the minimum level required.
What are the DELF Junior and DELF Prim?
The junior version of DELF can only be taken by secondary school aged students. It has the same structure as the standard DELF, only the topics are different: the materials take into account the interests of young people. The DELF Prim is aimed at all children aged from 8 to 11 years old who are beginners in French.
When can I sit for these exams?
Examination sessions are organised throughout the year at the Alliance Franรงaise de Melbourne. Please log onto our website for more information: www.afmelbourne.com.au or contact Aurelie PIERRE at education@afmelbourne.com.au

2012 Competition Making French the best subject at school The Berthe Mouchette Competition, named in honour of the Alliance Française de Melbourne’s founder, has been alive and running since 1894. Each year more than 12,000 young Victorians bring French poetry to life through recitals… but the BMC is more than just a poetry competition. Year 3 to 6 students participating in the poetry recitation are invited to portray their impressions of the poems by entering our drawing competition, “J’illustre mon poème”. VCE preparation - Consisting of oral conversation and written examinations (Years 9-12) that provide an excellent resource for VCE preparation. Prix Special des Ecoles Françaises – is open to bilingual students in Years 3 to 12 attending French or Bilingual Schools in Victoria. At primary level students recite poems while at secondary level, students compose poems in French, bien sûr! The Alliance Française de Melbourne runs the competition and awards prizes (DVDs, books, CDs and encyclopedias ) to the best students at each year level from Years 3 to 12 in Victoria. Le Prix La Pérouse – a French Cultural trip to New Caledonia is awarded to the Year 11 or Year 12 student who scores the highest overall mark (oral and writing skills).
