Spring 2014 April 26th is the date of this year’s International Reunion Day and the committee has been hard at work planning a really fun event. We are so excited to have collegiates from three schools in attendance this year - UCLA, USC, and Chapman! We’re looking for a great turnout to really show our collegiate the Alpha Gam spirit lives on after graduation. If you’ve been thinking about coming to an IRD, this is the year to do it. Call a sister or two and make plans to be in attendance.
We are very excited to have Stephannie Sack Bailey, Executive Director of Alpha Gamma Delta, as our speaker this year. Stephannie runs the day to day operations of the fraternity and the Fraternity Housing Corporation. Many Southern California Alpha Gams have met Stephannie in the time since the extension presentations at the California universities and know that she is a dynamic and inspiring speaker. Come out and get your Alpha Gam spirit pumped up! Some other fun things we have planned include vendors selling Alpha Gam merchandise, a slideshow of our alumnae and collegiate, and fantastic opportunity drawing baskets. All opportunity drawing proceeds go to the Foundation so it’s a win, win. For alumnae, there will be a separate social hour space where you can get an adult beverage. There is also a beautiful patio if you’d like to enjoy the warm California sun. We are happy to offer two ways to register and pay this this year.

Delta Epsilon Initiation & Reinstallation Save the Date information on page 16.
Delta Alpha Chapter is Reinstalled at USC On January 25, 2014, Delta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta officially returned to the University of Southern California campus. International President Jackie Brannon Stutts acted as the installing officer in an emotional ceremony held at the Delta Alpha chapter house. Reinstallation weekend started on Friday night with an Open House at the chapter house (see the article on page 6). It was the first glimpse of the extensively renovated home for alumnae and collegiates alike and both were equally stunned and overjoyed at the reconfigured spaces and beautiful furnishings carried out by the Fraternity Housing Corporation. President’s Letter Hello Sisters, Southern California Alumnae have had a busy and very exciting Fall and Winter. We have seen three recolonizations and two Initiations and Reinstallations and we are not done yet. We still have one more Initiation and Reinstallation to go and the largest International Reunion Day ever held by the Los Angeles and Orange County Alumnae Chapters, Club and Junior Circles. We have enjoyed meeting many new faces at the events that have been held and been delighted to reconnect with some alumnae that we haven’t seen in a while. We have a fun International Reunion Day planned with the theme “Come Home to AGD” and look forward to hosting our speaker, Stephannie Sack Bailey, Alpha Gamma Delta Executive Director. Please plan to join us at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Norwalk, April 26, 2014, to visit with other alumnae, meet new alumnae members and to welcome our new collegians to their very first IRD. Thank you to all the alumnae who have been able to attend and participate in our events to date and for helping to make this a great year so far. Feel free to contact any of the Los Angeles Area Alumnae Chapter officers with any questions that you may have. Looking forward to seeing you at IRD. From the Foundation Chapter House Fire Inspires New AGD Foundation Fund
In January we received one of the most frightening Fraternity calls we can ever receive. “There’s been a fire at the Upsilon (University of Oklahoma) Chapter House.” The thankful news - everyone is safe. The hard news - the chapter house is uninhabitable. The disaster affected the entire chapter but specifically the 61 women left scrambling for a new place to sleep and ways to get the basic necessities we so easily take for granted: food, clothing, toothbrushes, school supplies, and books. In response, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation established a new Disaster Relief Fund to help provide immediate emergency support to our sisters facing a disaster in their lives due to fire and other natural disasters. Our Upsilon sisters were the first to benefit from this fund, each receiving $500 to meet extraordinary needs caused by the fire. With the help of our alumnae, funds will be available for sisters in the future who experience loss from disasters. To make a donation to the new fund, click here.
Donations to the foundation can be made to honor a member that has entered Chapter Grand, to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, as a thank you, or to celebrate sisterhood in Alpha Gamma Delta. Visit the Foundation website and select a card to accompany you honor donation, enter the required information and your credit card information. You can also contact the Foundation for additional methods of payment.

Connie Cashin is initiated as Alumnae Initiate Alumnae initiate Connie Cashin was thrilled to finally be able to call all her Alpha Gam friends sisters after being initiated into Alpha Gamma Delta on January 25th. As an alumnae initiate, Connie enjoys full membership in Alpha Gamma Delta. Connie is currently serving as Public Relations Advisor at Delta Alpha. Connie is a graduate of USC, receiving her BA in Public Relations in 1975, and her MA in Journalism in 1977. Connie is the owner of Cashin Marketing Consultants, a marketing consulting firm, specializing in marketing, advertising, events and public relations for shopping centers. Check it out now to see who else has been profiled.
Delta Tau update Delta Tau chapter at Chapman University in Orange had its best recruitment ever this past fall with 63 new members increasing the membership to 178 women. Of the approximately 6,000 students on Chapman’s campus, approximately 2,000 belong to one of the eight sororities or 9 fraternities. There are currently plans for Pi Beta Phi sorority to join the Chapman community next Spring. Delta Tau also has had a great year academically increasing their overall grade point average from 3.35 to 3.41. Six women have 4.0 GPAs and 128 have achieved Pi (3.14 GPA). The freshman class was number one on campus with a combined 3.52 GPA. The girls placed first in the Turkey Bowl flag football tournament. Delta Tau celebrated their 11th anniversary with an Open House, campus tour, and philanthropy project for alumnae on March 16th. They will hold spring Initiation in April and welcome an alumnae initiate at that time. They are currently working on the plans for an upcoming philanthropy project.

Growing our Sisterhood through Alumnae Initiation Alumnae Initiation is a great way to provide women with talents and leadership skills a place where they can enjoy the benefits of sisterhood and put their skills to use. To be eligible, the woman cannot have been initiated into another Panhellenic group. Women can be nominated for alumnae initiation by both collegiate chapters and active alumnae chapters. The proposed alumna initiate must be approved by the local alumnae chapter or club and/or by the Executive Council of the local collegiate chapter. A short application is required. Upon approval, the Initiate is responsible for paying all fees and purchasing a badge. Do you have a friend that would enjoy the activities you currently share with your sisters? Bring her along to the next non-ritual event and introduce her to Alpha Gamma Delta. If you would like to nominate someone for alumnae initiation, please contact Marijayne Wallace Stegman, Alumnae Development Specialist—Extension at AGDADS13@outlook.com.

Rosevines CHAPTER GRAND Vivian Hora Bosquit (H), Initiated 4/15/47, entered Chapter Grand 11/30/13. Vivian was a proud alumnus of Eta Chapter at De Pauw University. Vivian was one of the founders of the Mt. Baldy Vista Alumnae Club. She was treasurer of the club for 31 years and earned the Honor of Epsilon Pi, Arc with Diamonds and Pearl. Vivian was a gracious hostess for our annual AGD Foundation fundraiser, from Tupperware to jewelry to lingerie (who could ever forget those parties?). She had a quiet, impish sense of humor. She was so persistent in collecting support fees that she was fondly referred to as "The Vivinator" in the Mt. Baldy club! Those she left behind have wonderful memories of Vivian and she will be dearly missed. Jeanne Keeler McGirk (DA), Initiated 3/17/40, entered Chapter Grand 07/13. Chapter House Update Delta Alpha Chapter House A multi-million dollar renovation has completely transformed the Delta Alpha chapter house making it the pride of USC’s Row. The exterior of the house has been made over with a Spanish colonial feel highlighted by a new entry way, arched windows looking into the living room, and beautiful vertical windows on the southwest corner of the house where the staircase is located. Inside the first floor was gutted and replaced with vibrant new spaces and furnishings. The house director’s quarters have been moved to the back of the house, allowing for more public spaces in the front. Meeting and gathering spaces highlighted in tones of red, buff, and green make for a warm and polished feel. Artwork and historical Delta Alpha photographs appear throughout the house. Upstairs, two “bump-outs” on the main hallway to accommodate slightly larger bathrooms help to break up the long straight hallway of the past. Modular bedroom furniture will replace the old built-in furniture.

Delta Epsilon Chapter House Renovation to the Delta Epsilon chapter house has included the addition of a commercial kitchen, addition of an ADA bedroom, and changing the date room to an Executive Board room including moving the door to the silver closet and removing the telephone nook. The front courtyard has been demolished to upgrade the space and move the fountain to one of the walls. Some additional things that were not planned have been included such as removing lead-based paint and taking down a wall due to seismic concerns. In terms of decorating, the living room has new light fixtures and the original plaster armorial bearings have been reinstalled on the fireplace. The Purpose has been added to one of the walls in the living room. The exterior plastering is finally getting underway though there are still concerns about the need to retrofit the property. Monday night dinners are being catered in for the New Members and they are using the house for meetings and hanging out. The house will have a capacity of 45 women when it opens in the Fall.

Delta Alpha Reinstallation On Saturday, multiple Initiation ceremonies were held as the first New Member class in 28 years was initiated into our sisterhood by two Initiation teams from Delta Omicron, University of Nevada Las Vegas. Alumnae were on hand to welcome our new sisters and assist with pinning on shiny new badges. Pearls sisters for two of the new initiates even flew in all the way from New York and Alabama. Later in the evening, the Reinstallation banquet was held at Town & Gown on campus. The families of the new initiates joined with alumnae to celebrate. Liz Harriss York, International VicePresident, Extension, served as Toastmistress. Toasts to our Our Alma Mater, Our Founders, Our Initiates, and Our Fraternity were presented by Barbara Meador Callard, Kelly Bass Seibel, Charlotte Arrowsmith, and Adrienne Kerr Beckett. The evening was capped off with the presentation of the original hand-drawn Charter to Delta Alpha chapter President Sarah Manley. The Charter will hang in the chapter house. The Foundation presented the chapter with two Foundation scholarships.

Delta Epsilon Collegiate Update Throughout winter quarter, the Delta Epsilon colony has had a wonderful time bonding with all of our sisters. We've gotten to know each other better through events such as our sisterhood retreat and our Secret Squirrel Sisters. We also had a lot of fun learning traditional Alpha Gam songs at the Squirrel Sing-Along which was hosted at our house with the help of local alumnae. An integral part of Alpha Gamma Delta is encouraging our sisters and we are excited to support our sister, Julianna Corrao, a cancer survivor, by participating in our university's Relay for Life this April! In addition, we are so excited about our upcoming Initiation. We look forward to becoming an established chapter and initiated members of Alpha Gamma Delta.
Delta Alpha Collegiate Update After a busy fall that included Presents, sisterhood retreats, Homecoming contests (3rd place in Anything Goes competition), baking and shopping events, an invite party, ice skating and hanging with the alumnae at Disneyland, finals brought the semester to a close. Some of the girls gathered together to make goodie bags to get everyone through exams. January brought officer elections and pre-initiation events such as the Red, Buff & Green and Pinning of the Petals ceremonies. We got our first look at the renovated chapter house, which includes beautiful new finishes along with memories of the past. The girls participated in Greek Intramural soccer in January and February. Continuous Open Recruitment included a hike to the Hollywood sign, bowling, and a Friday evening invitational. Eleven new members joined the chapter at a fun Bid Day at Moonlight Rollerway. We participated in the SAM’s philanthropic Field of Dreams Kickball Tournament and volunteered at a soup kitchen at St. James Episcopal Church.
Recruitment Training All three new California chapters/colonies participated in a Regional Recruitment Training (RRT) for all of their members and new members on Sunday, February 16, 2014. Hosted by the Fraternity's Volunteer Service Team (VST) membership/recruitment volunteers, the day was full of small and largegroup workshops intended to introduce recruitment concepts and prepare the women for success in their first formal recruitment. Workshops included conversation breakouts, chapter and personal branding, song practice, rotation, and more. Facilitators from the VST included: Wendy Bright Faust, Director of Recruitment Operations; Julie Berger Karstetter, Regional Recruitment Coordinator; Shannon O'Nale, Recruitment Development Specialist-USC; and Jenni Rowe, Recruitment Development Specialist-UCLA. A team of collegians from Delta Tau-Chapman University were on hand at the RRT to help teach rotation to our newest California sisters and stayed to meet the chapter and colony women over dinner. Individual training was done for each chapter/colony at other points throughout the weekend as well - this included preference conversation, the vision for each campus' formal recruitment plans, membership selection and/or mock recruitment.
