Squirrel Scribbles Our Alumnae Rock!
TALENT OF LEADERSHIP AWARDS
President’s Letter
During the summer we put out a call to our alumnae asking for financial support and volunteer help during Formal Recruitment at both USC and UCLA. And you overwhelmingly responded! All totaled we raised over $10,000 for the collegiate chapters that was used to purchase needed supplies, decorations, and equipment. Other sisters donated nonmonetary items such as fans, furniture pieces, napkins, and drink dispensers. Several people
also donated silver pieces such as trays, pitchers, and candlesticks which the collegians can use both during recruitment and at other events during the year. Your generosity was greatly appreciated by the collegiate chapters as they work to establish the basic recruitment supplies that a new chapter needs to be competitive. We also asked you for Rose Notes to give the initiated members prior to Recruitment to provide them encouragement and show that we are behind them. Thanks to all who wrote lovely notes and especially to Julie How O’Brien who wrote over 70 Rose Notes! Our alumnae also responded to the call for volunteers to help
In April 2015, Alpha Gamma Delta honored 16 women with the new Talent of Leadership Award. This award celebrates sisters who are doing amazing things in their professions or in their local communities. Two of these amazing sisters live here in Southern California. Read more on page 2...!

behind the scenes during Recruitment parties. A big thank you goes out to each day captain who acted as the point person organizing each day’s volunteers: Jana Bickel, Jacqueline Yudkin, Giselle Rocha Milatovic, Melanie Sharon O'Donnell, Carol Reed, Francine Restivo Cafarchia, Desiree Bedoy Gooch, Kathleen Burns Campos, Barbara Meador Callard, Marijayne Wallace Stegman, Cindy Hill, and Leeza Hoyt. In addition to these wonderful sisters, more than fifty other alumnae from initiating chapters all over the country helped out. Amidst all the work, a bit of chaos, and a smattering of problem solving, the alumnae had a great time helping out and learning that while Recruitment has changed over the years, at the heart it is still the same. It’s about making those personal connections we all still cherish. Being behind the scenes, we could often only hear what was going on. We became accustomed to hearing the roar of conversation as it built with the Potential New Members entering the house, then quieted as the bell was rung so one of the officers could speak or the program could start, only to have it build again, then fade away as the last PNMs left the party. This was generally our cue that we could emerge from behind the doors and curtains to get ready for the next party. Therefore, it was so fun when, after the Entertainment round at USC, the collegians treated the alumnae and parents to a reprise of their slideshow and dance. Our collegians at both chapters had successful Recruitments welcoming large New Member classes. Both chapters will continue to participate in Continuous Open Recruitment (COR) as they work to build their chapters towards Chapter Total. The possibilities for these chapters are endless! Which works as a nice segue to the theme for International Reunion Day 2016 which is Endless Possibilities. I think this theme makes for a great theme to the entire year. As alumnae, we know that Alpha Gamma Delta opened us up to a world of endless possibilities socially, professionally, personally, and fraternally. I hope that you will make a point to be a part of those endless possibilities during the 2015-2016 fraternal year. IRD will held in Los Angeles county this year on April 2nd but there are also many other activities on our calendar. We are also excited about a renewed effort to build a strong Junior Circle presence in Los Angeles. Recent UCLA graduate Alex Camarella will be heading up the effort so look for more information coming soon! Loyally in Epsilon Pi, Marijayne Wallace Stegman

Fall quarter started with preparations for Formal Recruitment in mid-September. In between practicing rotation, decorating the house, and preparing for school to start, the members took some time to create toiletry bags for the women at House of Ruth, a women’s shelter the alumnae chapter also supports. Formal Recruitment started mid-week during the first week of classes culminating in Tuesday night’s Bid Day ceremony where the chapter welcomed a wonderful New Member class. Since then, the members have held a sisterhood retreat in Malibu where they had fun hiking and doing team building and bonding activities. In October, during Parent’s Weekend, the members had a tailgate with the dads and other family members and introduced their New Members at Presents. The chapter is excited to be initiating 52 women on November 21st.

LOOKING BACK AT OUR TRIP TO THE GETTY MUSEUM In January, about 20 Alpha Gams of all ages ascended the hill to the Getty Museum for a day of culture and a scavenger hunt (digitally, of course) of specific art pieces and themes. We enjoyed lunch on site and got to know each other better. It was a lovely and very warm January day. Stay tuned for more fun and interesting gatherings. We all agreed that the Getty needed more time to be absorbed.
