It is with much pride that we saw the GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN, the prestigious competition celebrating an industry dedicated to creativity, emerge on the world stage and become a pledge of international excellence, at a time when the planet seemed on pause, because of a worldwide pandemic like no other.
Après treize éditions connues et reconnues, ce nouveau GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN a connu la participation de talents issus de plus de 30 pays en plus des candidats du Québec, loyaux au concours depuis sa toute première édition en 2007. De ce fait, le GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN rejoint la ligue internationale des concours majeurs dans l’industrie.
After thirteen strong editions, this GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN welcomed talents from more than 30 countries who joined Quebecois candidates, loyal to the contest since its very first edition in 2007. As a result, the GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN joins the international league of major industry award competitions.

Presenting our new international brand, a design by Metah. La philosophie derrière cette nouvelle image, conçue par le studio de Québec, Metah, nous est livrée par le concepteur Simon Hatem... sous forme d’un petit Haiku !

ACDF Architecture a misé sur la valorisation du caractère patrimonial des lieux tout en créant un parcours architectural riche en contrastes et en expériences… entre le noir et le blanc.
The software development company Lightspeed POS Inc. wished to maximize its occupation in the famous Viger train station. ACDF Architecture focused on enhancing the heritage character of the site while creating an architectural path rich in contrasts and experiences … either black or white.

Un environnement sombre se déploie à la sortie des ascenseurs. À travers les trois caissons de vitrages teintés de bronze, qui délimitent le hall de la salle de formation, un subtil jeu de transparence et de réflexion s’opère. Puis un fond noir. Les couleurs chaudes des gradins en chêne blanc et la riche texture du mur de briques qui fixent la salle d’entraînement semi-circulaire, se mêlent aux reflets géométriques blancs éclatants des couloirs est et ouest, qui relient les espaces de travail. Le jury international du GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN s’est laissé charmé par cet endroit extraordinaire où les charpentes et cloisons en bois ainsi que les artefacts architecturaux sont littéralement mis en lumière, offrant une atmosphère plus résidentielle et un environnement de travail plus humain à tous les employés.

A dark environment unfolds at the exit of the elevators. Through the three boxes of bronze tinted glazing, which delimit the hall from the training room, a subtle play of transparency and reflection takes place. Then comes the unveiling of a pitch-black background. The warm colors of the white oak bleachers and the rich texture of the brick wall that secures the semicircular training room, balance out the vibrant white geometric reflections of the East and West corridors connecting the workspaces. The GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN International Jury was charmed by this extraordinary place where the wooden frames and partitions as well as the architectural artefacts are literally brought to light, offering a more residential atmosphere and a more human workplace to all employees. Bravo!

Une ambiance feutrée et des influences autant japonaises que danoises émanent de ce studio loft, réinventé pour une jeune famille du VieuxPort de Montréal.
Japanese and Danish influences and an outdoorsy-Zen atmosphere emanate from this loft studio, revamped and reviewed for a young family from the Old Port of Montreal.
Le défi ? Intégrer la nature dans un espace décisivement urbain et conserver le caractère industriel et ouvert du lieu. Future Simple Studio imagine un ‘box within a box’. Deux boîtes vitrées, bâties en contre-plaqué russe revêtu de noyer renferment les chambres et ajoutent une texture chaleureuse au milieu brut. Une végétation variée et un arbre de 11 pieds de haut ainsi que des grandes surfaces réfléchissantes qui multiplient la verdure et renvoient la lumière complètent l’effet apaisant de la nature au cœur de la ville.
The challenge? To integrate nature into a decisively urban space and preserve the space’s industrial feel and open layout. Future Simple Studio imagines a box within a box. Build in Russian plywood with walnut veneer, two glass boxes enclose the bedrooms and add a warm texture to the raw environment. A variety of plants and an 11-foot-tall tree combined with large reflective surfaces that multiply greenery and reflect light create nature’s calming effect in the heart of the city.

La résidence Rochefort se caractérise par un mélange calculé de styles et un travail ingénieux des volumes.
The Rochefort residence is characterized by a thought-out mixture of styles and an ingenious work of volumes.
Alors que l’architecture de la maison se définit par des lignes modernes, Daoust Design a intégré des éléments inspirés par le style Art déco du début du 20e siècle qui habillent l’espace avec élégance et finesse. On note ainsi l’application de lattes de bois sur le plafond de plus de 15’ de haut qui apporte de la chaleur et du dynamisme à l’environnement intérieur et améliore l’acoustique de l’espace. Les appareils d’éclairage, aux formes organiques et finis brillants, créent un équilibre avec la ligne pure du modernisme du design d’intérieur.
While the house’s architecture is defined by modern lines, Daoust Design has incorporated elements inspired by the early 20th-century Art Deco style that add elegance and finesse. Thus, we note the beautiful application of wooden slats on the 15-foot-high ceiling that brings warmth and dynamism to the interior environment while improving the space’s acoustics. Balancing out the modernist pure line of the layout, lighting fixtures feature organic shapes and shimmery finishes. A modern mixture of textures…

La Maison Oak est une respectueuse transformation intérieure d’une résidence centenaire jumelée située à Saint-Lambert, Rive-Sud de Montréal. Avec son extérieur volontairement sobre, le cœur de la maison marque un lieu grandiose où la famille se réunit. Réorganisés et réinventés, les espaces intérieurs se composent de pièces distinctes et reliées, rythmées par des modules de cèdre qui favorisent le rangement et créent l’harmonie. La maison revue et corrigée par Architecture Microclimat gagne ainsi deux pièces à l’étage, un espace bureau au rez-de-chaussée et une salle de jeux au sous-sol. Elle conserve son caractère patrimonial tout en offrant des espaces intérieurs aux vues renouvelées et aux expériences lumineuses uniques du matin au soir.
Maison Oak is the respectful interior design transformation of a century-old semi-detached house in Saint-Lambert, on the South Shore of Montreal. Retaining its sober exterior deliberately, the heart of the house marks a grandiose place where the family comes together. The reorganized and reinvented spaces create distinct but connected rooms, punctuated by cedar modules for storage and harmony. The old house, updated and redesigned by Architecture Microclimat has gained two rooms upstairs, an office space on the ground floor and a playroom in the basement. It has retained its heritage character while offering interiors with renewed views and extraordinary lighting experiences, day and night.

La propriétaire de la maison, cuisinière et boulangère à ses heures, a voulu qu’on privilégie des intérieurs chaleureux, simples, confortables et créatifs, et qu’on y crée une cuisine ultra conviviale et fonctionnelle. de Giulio kitchen design a ainsi travaillé de concert avec l’architecte tôt dans le processus de conception. Ensemble, ils ont développé un espace de cuisine vaste et de forme irrégulière, offrant de superbes vues et laissant abonder la lumière naturelle. La station de cuisine haut de gamme incrustée dans une table de ferme modifiée et la console de four en acier inoxydable sur pattes confèrent une unicité à la cuisine. Ces détails furent parmi les premiers conçus, fredonnant un refrain à l’esprit : celui d’une cuisine créative et hautement fonctionnelle.
The lady of the house, a frequent cook and baker, wanted to favour warm, simple, comfortable, and creative interiors, and own a highly functional and convivial kitchen. de Giulio kitchen design worked hand in hand with the house architect early on to develop a large irregularly shaped space with great views and abundant natural light. Bespoke elements such as a range top station within a modified farm table and the free-standing planked stainless steel oven console were among the first elements designed with the motto in mind: A creative, highly functional kitchen to be!

La mission ? De transformer l’espace étroit et obsolète en un environnement fonctionnel, spacieux et fluide. S’appuyant sur les fenêtres et puits de lumière existants, dialogue38 inc. maximise la présence de lumière naturelle dans l’espace. La variation dans la hauteur du plafond crée une profondeur, une dimension et un mouvement qui rehausse l’expérience de l’utilisateur. Ici, l’habile usage du bois clair, du verre transparent et de tuiles surdimensionnées imitant l’effet marbre confère au design intérieur une légèreté intrinsèque et une sensation de spa magistralement équilibrée.
The mission? To transform the outdated narrow space into a spacious, functional and fluid environment. Drawing on existing windows and skylight, dialogue38 inc. maximized the natural light in their layout. By creating a variation in the ceiling height, depth, dimension and movement were added, enhancing the user’s experience. In whole, the skilful use of light wood, transparent glass and large marble-like tiles gives the interior design an inherent lightness and a masterfully balanced spa-like feel.

Ici, un véritable sentiment de bien-être est créé grâce à une combinaison complexe de technologie de pointe, de design d’intérieur et de service. Commissioned by Dutch company ONE HUNDRED restrooms and mentored by their vision and expertise, Antwerp studio WeWantMore set off to redefine the user public restroom design experience as such. Here, a true sense of well-being is created through an intricate combination of cutting-edge technology, design and service. The space is divided into different zones to relieve, refresh and reload. To top it off, in a time when hygiene and health go hand in hand, the added health features are ever so relevant.

The brand-new Mobilia showroom in the heart of Toronto's Design District is a distinctive and theatrical environment with Italian-style perspective scenes. Upon entering, a long black architectural structure designed by MXMA Architecture & Design + Jump&Love runs along the central aisle and divides the space. The play of angles serves as a gateway to the brand’s four worlds of styles: Wow, Natural, Euro and Spontaneous. In the center of it all, a house serves the effect of a pop-up shop. Inspiring galleries of accessories and a luminous work of art created to fit the brand complete the always-in-motion space designed to inspire.

Dans cet immense univers de vente au détail et de zones de divertissement au cœur de Shanghai, le design intérieur devient métaphore. Il recrée le chemin de la vie ; la croissance du bourgeonnement à la maturité. Il encourage les enfants dans leur créativité et les mène à explorer la magie de la nature. Arizon Design imagine des collines et adopte un rythme de « lignes de contour » dans une géographie ondulante. Telle une palette de peinture qui explose, le projet comporte jusqu’à 200 couleurs qui créent la magie de l’univers. Boutiques et structures de jeux fusionnent en un courant circulaire de visiteurs où les enfants y grimpent et y glissent allègrement.
In this grandiose universe of retail and entertainment zones in the heart of Shanghai, interior design acts as a metaphor. It recreates the path of life; from budding, to growing, to maturity, encouraging kids in their creativity and leading them to explore the magic of nature. Arizon Design imagined hills and adopted a rhythm of “contouring lines” in an undulating geography. Like a knocked-over paint palette, the project features up to 200 colors that create the magic of the universe. Shops and play structures merge into a circular stream of visitors where children climb and glide happily.

Ici, les paramètres de vente au détail traditionnels y sont intentionnellement ignorés. S’y déploie plutôt une expression sculpturale de la marque qui se démarque des autres détaillants. L’installation artistique au plafond constitue l’ancrage de l’espace. L’esthétique fragmentée de l’architecture se transpose dans les plinthes d’affichage des produits entièrement blanches qui semblent s’élever de manière organique à partir du revêtement de sol assorti. Dès lors, le magasin brouille les frontières entre une destination shopping et une galerie d’art.
The Canada Goose experiential “Northward” Concept Store brought the Canadian Arctic landscape to Beijing’s exclusive Shin Kong Place Mall. GH+A Design Studios were compelled to drop a massive organic rock formation into the provided footprint.

Here, traditional retail parameters were intentionally ignored by creating a sculptural expression of the Canada Goose brand that stands out among the other retailers. The ceiling art installation anchors the space. As per the fragmented design aesthetic of the architecture, it seems to be carried into the all-white product display plinths which appear to rise organically from the matching flooring. Needless to say, the store blurs beautifully the lines between a shopping destination and an art gallery.

Unique en son genre, Music Public Kingdom est situé dans le MO-MALL de Hangzhou et se déploie sous le thème de la culture vinyle. Hangzhou GINZA Interior Decoration Design a abordé le projet comme s’il s’agissait d’un musée du vinyle. On définit l’espace comme une partie du tissu social urbain : à la fois un endroit spirituel et un lieu de consommation culturelle urbaine. Quatre zones composent l’espace et se distinguent par des couleurs, matériaux et meubles différents. L’intérieur parle du sens du rythme, de la lumière et de l’ombre. Quant au couloir extérieur, il est conçu comme un mur-rideau pour créer une sensation d’espace infiniment étendue.

Hangzhou GINZA Interior Decoration Design has positioned the MPK as a vinyl museum. The store is defined as a part of the urban social space: on the one hand, it serves as a spiritual space; on the other hand, as a place of urban cultural consumption. Four zones compose the space, distinguished by different colors, materials and furniture choices. The interior space speaks of the sense of rhythm, light and shadow. The exterior hallway, designed as a curtain-wall, creates the ultimate feeling of infinitely expansive space.

On y entre par la Place d’Youville dans le Vieux-Québec et on se sent déjà au cœur d’un diamant. Le spectacle peut commencer. Entre le hall et la salle de spectacle sombres, le consortium Coarchitecture / insitu / Jacques Plante imagine un vide en verre lumineux qui se fait lieu de rencontre. Un majestueux escalier de bois le parcourt et s’élève vers la lumière. À l’étage, le foyer chaleureux au plancher de bois, plafonds moulés et anciennes cloisons récupérées évoque les fantômes du passé. Quant à l’ingénieux décor obscur et scénographique du théâtre transformable, il évoque la modénature de la façade, créant une ambiance en continuité avec patrimoine architectural extraordinaire du bâtiment.
One enters the space from Place d’Youville in Old Quebec and, in an instant, feels in the heart of a diamond. The show can go on. Separating the dim hall and the auditorium, a luminous glass void volume hosts a majestic wooden staircase. It runs across the void and rises towards the light. On the upper level, the welcoming foyer features wood floors, molded ceilings and old salvaged partitions that evoke the theatre’s ghosts of the past. As per the transformable theatre hall, its obscure and powerful scenographic design by Coarchitecture / insitu / Jacques Plante elicits the facade’s cornice outline, creating continuity with the building’s exquisite architectural heritage.

Le collège voulant se doter d’une bibliothèque moderne pour stimuler l’apprentissage, un concours fut lancé, la grande firme lauréate, sélectionnée, et le résultat, totalement renversant. Empreinte du passé religieux de l’ancienne chapelle qui l’abritait, la bibliothèque revêtait plusieurs artéfacts du passé, manquait de lumière naturelle et, du coup, n’était que peu fréquentée. BGLA architecture + design urbain a entrepris de rénover et d’agrandir l’existant plutôt que de reconstruire, réduisant largement l’empreinte carbone. Ici, le concept de biophilie règne et se matérialise par la forme arrondie de l’escalier et de la mezzanine. Des murs repeints, des couleurs franches et des îlots d’étude et de détente douillets en font un lieu stimulant pour une relève rallumée !
Wishing to refresh its library and further stimulate learning, the private school launched a design contest, selected its leading contender and the result is astonishing. Out with the old, in with the new!

Located in the school’s old chapel featuring many religious artefacts, the college library offered little natural light and was rarely used. BGLA architecture + urban design undertook to renovate and extend the existing space rather than rebuild it, reducing significantly the project’s carbon footprint. Biophilia reigns here, showcased in the staircase and mezzanine’s rounded shapes. Repainted walls, bold colors, and cozy islands to study, read or relax make it a stimulating place for generations of inspired students to come.

Ainsi, leurs sites, tel que planifié par GH+A Design Studios de Montréal sont multifacettes et incluent des toits verts qui offriront aux utilisateurs des occasions de se renseigner sur l’horticulture et l’énergie propre. D’entrée de jeu, des portraits noirs et blancs de personnalités noires qui ont marqué l’histoire et une énumération de carrières possibles pour tous créent cet optimisme qui rend tout rêve envisageable ! The I Can Institute suggest a multifaceted network of facilities guiding today’s youth and empowering them for the future. In order to break the cycle of systemic racism, we must start with the children and see them grow up understanding that diversity contributes to a vibrant society. Thus their sites, as planned by GH+A Design Studios are multifaceted and even includes green roofs which will provide opportunities for users to learn about horticulture, and clean energy. Black-and-white photography of black leaders and influencers as well as an enumeration of possible career paths on the building’s facade create this sense of optimism where dreams may reach all heights! Flagship locations will be located downtown with a network of smaller satellites.

Lifestyle pixels” is the design concept of the Sales Center of Overseas Huanyu Time Square. Boxes representing life pixels, are stacked together in three-dimensional space. Each box is implanted with a “box community” which integrates a coffee bar, a baking room, a reading room, e-sports, a sand table and a children's playground. The dynamic and open space lets customers immerse themselves in different scenarios to create an exciting experience. Through the interaction of science and technology, enhanced by the concepts of Shanghai GSD Interior Design, the center offers a one-of-a-kind multi-level design experience.

The special attention given to the design of shaves at the Fukuoka Zoo Gift Shop in Japan creates the lasting impression of standing right in the heart of a tropical zoological garden.
Composées de plusieurs niveaux de courbes organiques, les étagères furent créées par MEC Design International Corp. à partir de modèles 3D afin de créer des lignes, des courbes et des volumes inspirés de la jungle. Le sol est également incurvé afin de créer un sentiment d’unité. Ici, les produits semblent prendre vie comme s’ils étaient animés et vivaient, perchés dans les arbres. Enfants et parents visiteurs sont ainsi transportés dans un espace qui laisse imaginer que les plantes les entourent et que les animaux en peluche leur parlent !
Made of multiple levels of organic curves, the shelves were created by MEC Design International Corp. from 3D models to create lines, curves and volumes inspired by the jungle. The floor is also curved to create a feeling of unity. Here, the products seem to come to life as if they were alive and perched in trees. Visiting children and parents are thus transported to a space in which their imagination may run wild … where plants surround them and stuffed animals can talk!

Abritant 250 000 espèces animales et végétales et une machinerie impressionnante essentielle au maintien de la vie, l’intervention lumineuse et dynamique a rassemblé autour de KANVA, NEUF architect(e)s, Bouthillette Parizeau, NCK et collaborateurs créatifs. Le parcours linéaire est transformé en expérience plus dynamique, plus fluide, aux quatre sens sollicités. Depuis l'entrée, la paroi guide les visiteurs vers un tunnel où commence l’exploration. D’un blanc pur et aux courbes envoûtantes, la mezzanine offre des vues inédites sur les cinq écosystèmes.
Home to 250,000 animal and plant species and impressive machinery essential to sustaining life, the bright and dynamic intervention brought together around KANVA, NEUF architect(e)s, Bouthillette Parizeau, NCK and creative collaborators. The linear journey is transformed here into a more dynamic and fluid choice of paths in which all senses are solicited. From the get-go, a wall guides visitors into a tunnel where exploration may begin. Of pure white and with bewitching curves, the mezzanine offers unique views of the five ecosystems.

À l’instar de la nature, le Biodôme fonctionne comme une machine ultra-sophistiquée où rien n’est laissé au hasard. La muséographie des espaces d’interprétation de la Migration se fonde sur ce principe pour lequel un tout n’est que la somme de ses parties. Un parcours immersif et sensoriel traverse l’ensemble des écosystèmes et permet de faire dialoguer entre eux les éléments muséographiques d’interprétation et le renouveau architectural. La Bande à Paul, en partenariat avec KANVA, crée la Biomachine : un dispositif de médiation majeur de la muséographie du parcours. Métaphore de la nature et de sa complexité, l’installation rappelle que la vie dépend d’un ensemble de facteurs.
Like nature, the Biodôme works as an ultrasophisticated machine where nothing is left to chance. The museology of the Migration’s interpretation spaces is based on this principle in which a whole is only as strong as the sum of its parts. An immersive and sensory journey crosses all the ecosystems and creates a dialogue between the museology elements and the space’s architectural renewal. La Bande à Paul, in partnership with KANVA, designed the Biomachine: an impressive mediation system for the experience’s museology. Acting as a metaphor for nature and its complexity, the installation reminds us that life depends on a set of factors.

Mellow Yellow Hangout Cette grande table urbaine qui ondule sous le couvert forestier des févriers d’Amérique s’est dressée au cœur de Montréal au plus grand bonheur des citoyens, avides d’habiter à nouveau la ville après la pandémie de la COVID. Aux allures d’une piste de course, la table de 100 mètres, déployée par ADHOC architectes, créait une succession de mises en scène et d’ambiances où l’emploi et judicieux d’objets recyclés et iconiques de la gastronomie suggérait les repères de distanciation sécuritaire. Twisting and turning as a rack track would, the impressively long table, designed by ADHOC architects, created a succession of set-ups in which the judicious use of recycled and iconic gastronomic objects played as markers for safe social distancing. The refined choice of yellow design accessories and furniture, subdued lighting and vibrant yellow graphics make it a more-than-festive mellow yellow hangout.

To create a space in which visitors may revive the experience … thus was the mission!
L’étude du monde des vivants a conduit l’équipe du consortium ADHOC architectes et Messier Designers à une recherche sur l’organisation à l’échelle cellulaire, sur la récurrence des structures et les formes qui y sont associées. Plusieurs phénomènes naturels tels que la création des alvéoles d’une ruche ou l’érosion de formations rocheuses été inspirantes au niveau formel. Tel un organisme vivant capable de s’adapter et de se recréer, l’aménagement modulaire évolue au gré des saisons et des années. Ici, comme en nature, les cellules simples s’agencent et composent des modules complexes, opérationnels et fonctionnels.
ADHOC architects and Messier Designers’ study of natural forms led the design team to research the cellular level organization, the recurrence of structures and forms associated with them. Several natural phenomena such as the creation of the cells of a beehive or the erosion of rock formations became sources of inspiration. Like a living organism capable of adapting and recreating itself, this modular shop will evolve with the seasons and years. Here as in the wilderness, simple cells can be spatially composed and arranged together to build more complex, operational and functional modules.

Cette lumineuse bibliothèque propose une approche paysagère dans laquelle les espaces intérieurs sont lus comme une partie intégrante et continue du parc Central de la ville de Gatineau. Imaginée par Atelier TAG + NEUF architect(e)s, la disposition sur un seul niveau du bâtiment permet une démocratisation complète de l’espace et l’optimisation de sa relation avec le contexte environnant. Ici, les programmes sociaux et techniques sont disposés comme des pavillons contenus dans un écrin de verre. En créant un intérieur blanc immaculé et baigné de lumière naturelle qui touche les sens et l’esprit, la bibliothèque devient un forum qui contribue au dialogue communautaire.
The luminous library proposes a landscaping approach in which interior spaces are read as an integral and continuous part of Gatineau City’s Central park. Conceived by Atelier TAG + NEUF architect(e)s, the building’s single-level layout allows for complete democratization of the space and an optimization of its relationship to the surrounding context. The library’s social and technical programs are thus arranged as pavilions contained within a glass case. By creating an interior immaculate white space infused with natural light that appeals to the senses and spirit, the library acts as a public agora reinforcing community identity and dialogue.

Niché dans le Diamant de Québec, Bō évoque un univers fluide construit autour de l’eau et de la brume pour évoquer la vapeur s’échappant de la cuisine centrale. Etienne Bernier Architecture propose ici des textiles et des matériaux qui génèrent une atmosphère douce et élégante. Des teintes profondes de bleus marins et de noirs mats contrastent avec la clarté des vagues et la légèreté des luminaires flottants qui suggèrent brillamment le papier de riz. Le plancher aux effets bois et les banquettes en bois rajoutent un côté simple et authentique qui équilibre la déclinaison sélective de la dorure. Rappelant le clapotis de l’eau et l’amplitude de ses mouvements, le design d’intérieur est tout simplement charmant et envoûtant.
Located in Québec City’s Diamant Theater, Bō evokes a fluid universe built around water and mist to evoke the steam escaping from the central kitchen. Etienne Bernier Architecture chose textiles and materials to generate a mellow and elegant atmosphere. Deep shades of marine blues and black mats contrast with the clarity of the waves and the lightness of the rice-paper-like floating lighting fixtures. The wood effect floor finishing and the exposed wooden banquettes bring a simple and authentic side that balances the gilding accents here and there. Suggesting the rippling effect of water and the amplitude of its movements, the interior design is simply captivating and suave.

Ainsi nait Le Cathcart Restaurants et Biergarten, logé sous le grand Pavillon de verre de l’une des plus importantes structures de verre en Amérique du Nord. Les anciens puits de lumière ont cédé leur place à une nouvelle structure flottant qui reconnecte la ville à son souterrain. Place Ville Marie’s Esplanade revitalization is part of Ivanhoé Cambridge’s visionary initiative to see it become an urban hotspot, worthy of major international metropolises. Sid Lee Architecture, MDSL and A5 Hospitality imagine a welcoming effervescent oasis. Thus was born Le Cathcart Restaurants et Biergarten, housed under the large glass pavilion of one of North America’s most important glass structures. The original skylights gave way to a new floating structure, reconnecting the city to its underground. Urban materials and refined versions of outdoor benches here and there reproduce brilliantly elements of the environment of Montreal’s urbanity.

Née de la fougue de trois diplômés de l’ÉTS, l’entreprise de génie logiciel Gsoft rêvait de bureaux où l’humain serait au centre des priorités du monde du travail. Un milieu dynamique qui saurait attirer les talents.
Springing from the ardor of three ÉTS graduates, the software engineering company Gsoft aimed for its offices, to put people at the center of its priorities and thus improve the employee sense for well-being.
Le défi était d’encourager les déplacements à travers un espace gigantesque tout en créant un sentiment de familiarité pour les gens qui y habitent. Divisé en deux sites distincts, l’enjeu de créer un environnement cohérent et complémentaire faisait partie de la réflexion au départ. Ici, Linebox Studio a résolument mis l’accent sur le mouvement d’un point à l’autre du bureau, en plus de créer des ambiances distinctes d’un secteur à l’autre et un environnement de travail plein de surprises pour attirer les talents.
The challenge was to encourage movement through a gigantic space while creating a sense of familiarity for the people who work there. Being further divided into two separate suites, the challenge of creating a coherent and complementary environment was also important from the get-go. Linebox Studio resolutely applied a strong emphasis on movement from one point of the office to another, in addition to creating distinct atmospheres from one area to another. A workplace full of surprises, sure to attract top seed talents!

Une demeure emblématique du Plateau, conçue par l’architecte Pierre Cantin en 1964, a été entièrement rénovée pour lui donner une nouvelle élégance. Les intérieurs ont ainsi été démantelés pour faire place à des espaces plus légers, plus grands et plus lumineux avec des pièces ouvertement connectées. L’atrium, véritable pièce maîtresse du design, dévoile un double escalier orné de vastes boiseries en noyer qui mène à la mezzanine et surplombe un espace-bar avec cheminée attenant au salon. Riches, les teintes du rez-de-chaussée contrastent avec la blancheur du deuxième étage et de son atrium. Majeure et atypique, cette rénovation regroupait une vingtaine de professionnels, ingénieurs et spécialistes sous la direction de MU Architecture.

An iconic Plateau residence, originally designed by Architect Pierre Cantin in 1964, was completely renovated to give it a renewed elegance. The premises were stripped down to make room for lighter, larger and brighter spaces featuring openly connected rooms. The centrepiece atrium unveils a double staircase adorned with extensive walnut paneling that leads to the mezzanine and overlooks a living-room-adjourning fireplace-bearing cocktail lounge area. The group floor’s rich hues contrast brilliantly with the immaculate whiteness of the second floor and its atrium. This major and atypical renovation brought together around twenty professionals, engineers and construction specialists under the direction of MU Architecture.

Derrière une façade traditionnelle d’une ancienne maison-témoin, se révèle une résidence lumineuse et contemporaine entièrement remodelée et agrandie. Bipède imagine un escalier architectural. Il apporte une verticalité moderne et agit en tant que volume structurant autour duquel s’organisent de façon fluide les différentes zones. Majestueux, il s’adosse à une masse en contrepoids qui dissimule la cuisine. Ce monolithe contient adroitement une dépense et exhibe un cellier. Nichée à l’arrière de la maison et rassembleuse, la cuisine se déploie autour d’un grand ilot. Il évoque l’archétype de la table avec son piètement en bois.

Bipède imagines a structuring architectural staircase. Its volume brings a modern verticality around which the different areas of living are fluidly organized. Majestic, it leans against a counterweight mass that conceals the kitchen. This monolith hides the kitchen pantry while exhibiting the house cellar. Tucked away at the back of the house, the kitchen is organized around a large island that evokes the table archetype with its wooden base.

La rénovation atypique d’un duplex du Plateau Mont-Royal en résidence aux univers feutrés et luxueux redessine les frontières entre le privé et le public.
The atypical renovation of a Plateau Mont-Royal duplex in a cozy and luxurious residence redefines the boundaries between private and public space.
Astuce brillante, les espaces de repos sont disposés au premier étage, dans l’ombre du garage, tandis que les espaces de vie se situent à l’étage du haut, profitant d’un maximum de lumière. Ici, la matérialité guide les choix. Ainsi, les panneaux muraux en bois créent une trame verticale qui rythme les modules alors que le plancher en dalle de terrazzo apporte un caractère unique et lumineux à l’espace. Dupont Blouin Architectes crée des intérieurs chics et maitrisés où le noyer et la chaleur du bois sont à l’honneur.
A brilliant play on living standards, the sleeping areas are arranged on the first floor, in the shade of the garage, while the living rooms are placed on the upper floor, bathed in natural light. Materiality guided interior design choices. Thus, the wooden wall panels create a vertical grid that punctuates the space while the terrazzo slab floor brings a unique and luminous character to the interiors. Dupont Blouin Architectes created here chic and well-mastered interiors where the warmth of walnut and wood stand out like shining stars.

Modifié pour s’adapter à des espaces plus compacts, le système comporte des marches étroites, des contremarches hautes et des angles raides qui le rendent similaire en dimension aux échelles standard de grenier, tout en incorporant l’action innovante du pliage latéral, et une légèreté surprenante. BCompact Design a intelligemment imaginé un longeron en bambou du côté mobile avec des découpes de trous pour la main. Sur demande, on y active une main courante fixe, mince et courte, pour une sécurité augmentée. Le jury international apprécie la solution d’économie d’espace et l’aspect sobre du produit. Il souligne sa pertinence pour les appartements urbains, les petits studios, les couloirs étroits, les lofts, les greniers, les sous-sols, les mini-maisons, et plus encore.
Modified to fit more compact spaces, the system features narrow treads, high risers and steep angles that make it similar in size to standard attic ladders, while incorporating the innovative action of lateral folding, and a surprising lightness of structure. BCompact Design cleverly imagined a bamboo spar on the movable side with cutouts of holes for the hand. On request, a fixed, thin and short handrail is activated there for increased safety. The international jury appreciates the space-saving solution and the sober appearance of the product. It emphasizes its relevance for city apartments, small studios, narrow hallways, lofts, attics, basements, mini-homes and more.

A little while back, businesses as well as commercial and public spaces had to quickly put into place new sanitary measures. As so, the antiseptic solution dispenser became the first point of contact for customers, here and abroad.
Créé pour l’entreprise Flaco et conçu par barbeau desrosiers, ce distributeur mains libres entièrement fabriqué au Québec se démarque par sa forme élancée et élégante qui s’intègre à tout environnement. Created for Flaco and designed by barbeau desrosiers, this hands-free dispenser, entirely made in Quebec, stands out for its slender and elegant shape that blends in any environment. Its pedal mechanism only requires a slight foot pressure to receive a consistent and perfectly calibrated dose of antiseptic solution. Built to last, the dispenser is made from aluminum and zinc-plated steel. It may be used indoors and outdoors and will withstand the sometimes unpredictable Canadian climate.

Créé pour inspirer le changement d’habitudes dans la gestion des résidus alimentaires ici et ailleurs, cet électroménager de comptoir ingénieux et discret prend fièrement racine dans la ville de Québec. L’appareil Tero transforme les résidus alimentaires en fertilisant naturel riche en nutriments. When creating the Preciso faucet collection, the design studio team wanted to design a series featuring cylindrical lines and inspired by the modernism and minimalism of industrial chic design. In a time in which everything seems to be virtual, consumers are feeling a need to feel and touch more than ever. One way to do this is to incorporate texture and raw materials into interior designs. Preciso by Kalia answers this desire by elegantly providinga satisfying tactile experience, which is perfectly in sync with major design trends.

Reconnue comme un berceau de créativité depuis toujours, la Ville de Baie-Saint-Paul dans la magnifique région de Charlevoix a voulu se doter d’une image de marque territoriale axée sur la créativité de sa collectivité. Après tout, le Cirque du Soleil y est né, Jean-Paul Lemieux et Marc-Aurèle Fortin aussi ! À Baie-Saint-Paul, la beauté des lieux a non seulement inspiré des peintres de partout dans le monde, mais a aussi permis à ses citoyens de mettre en valeur plusieurs aspects entourant l’environnement, la culture et l’humain. C’est ce lieu de tous les possibles que l’agence locale Oasis Communication a évoqué avec brio dans son approche visuelle d’identité de marque revue et modernisée. Basée sur des formes géométriques simples, le demi-cercle, le rectangle, et le cercle, l’agence lauréate du Prix de l’année en communication et design de marque a su aux citoyens un logo « DIY » qui permet à chacun de décliner sa créativité et véhiculant l’idée de la ville de tous les possibles…
Known worldwide as a cradle of creativity, the valley city of Baie-Saint-Paul in the magnificent Charlevoix region wished to reassess its territorial brand image based on its community creativity. After all, Cirque du Soleil was born in the heart of the valley… Jean-Paul Lemieux and Marc-Aurèle Fortin too! Baie-Saint-Paul’s beauty has not only inspired painters from all over the world, but also allowed its citizens to value and celebrate several aspects of its environment, culture and people. The local agency Oasis Communication brilliantly evokes this sense of the all-possible in their visual approach to the revised and modernized brand identity. Based on simple geometric shapes, the semicircle, the rectangle, and the circle, the Communication and Brand Design Award of the Year agency provided citizens with a “DIY” logo that allows everyone to decline its creativity and convey the idea of endless, boundless creativity!

Petit Brûlé est une initiative agroécologique durable et gourmande développée par deux jeunes entrepreneurs de Rigaud, sur une route de campagne du même nom. Ce mandat comportait deux défis importants. D’abord, il s’agissait de développer une identité unique qui permettrait à Petit Brûlé de se distinguer de toutes les autres fermes. De plus, l’image conçue devait pouvoir se décliner pour identifier toute la gamme de produits fabriqués et vendus par l’organisation. Agence Braque a opté pour un logo épuré, minimaliste et intemporel qui traduit la volonté de la ferme de moderniser les pratiques agricoles. Ici, toutes les lignes sont parfaitement égales. Elles forment ainsi un sympa logo, un tout harmonieux et bien défini.
Petit Brûlé is a sustainable and gourmet farming project developed by two young entrepreneurs from Rigaud, on a country road by the same name. This mandate entailed two main challenges. First, to develop a unique identity that would allow Petit Brûlé to distinguish itself from all the other farms. Second, the image had to be designed in such a way that it could appear on the full range of products manufactured and sold by the organization. Braque Agency opted for a clean, minimalist and trendy logo that conveys the organization’s desire to modernize agricultural practices. Note that all lines are perfectly equal, forming a harmonious and well-defined whole, a modern farming graphic design!

Provocante, l’image de marque de ce nouveau joueur de café torréfié et emballé au Québec excite les sens, sort des sentiers battus et repousse les limites conventionnelles du marché.
Strong and provocative, this new Montrealroasted-and-packaged coffee player entices the senses, plays outside the box and pushes the conventional limits of the market.
Ici, un rituel remplace la dose quotidienne de café. La couleur rouge du logo renvoie à l’excitation et au sentiment d’urgence alors que le symbole de l’œil à la pupille dilatée accroché au nom du torréfacteur suggère une co-dépendance. Un slogan qui martèle le message « The liquid drug that makes you shine », créé par Cabana Séguin inc. vient exprimer la nature additive de cette substance psychoactive bien-aimée. Sur chaque emballage, un code d’accès pour une playlist Spotify montée sur mesure. Concept complet, nirvana atteint !
Here, a ritual replaces the user’s daily dose of coffee. The logo’s red color conveys excitement and a sense of urgency, while the dilated pupil eye symbol attached to the roaster's name suggests codependency. Expressing the additive nature of this beloved psychoactive substance, a slogan created by Cabana Séguin inc. hammers home the credo “The liquid drug that makes you shine”. On each packaging, an access code for a custom-made Spotify playlist is printed. Concept complete, nirvana achieved!

Plus qu’un spa, Förena se présente comme une grande cité thermale. Ici, la facture visuelle renforce la prestance du lieu et s’exprime dans une tonalité douce et éthérée. Imaginé par byHaus, le dessin du logotype est inspiré par l’idée de contrastes, inhérente à la nature du lieu. Ainsi, le contraire chaud/froid du spa s’exprime par les pleins/vides des pictogrammes et les traits fins/gras de la typographie. En découle une police unique, où chaque lettre explore cette dualité. Fonctionnel et surprenant, le système iconographique respecte ce même schéma. Les motifs graphiques rappellent l’ondulation de l’eau, la vapeur et la topographie du Mont-Saint-Bruno et évoquent un univers visuel empreint de mystère.
More than a spa, Förena presents itself as a large spa city. Expressed in a soft and ethereal tone, the exquisite visual signage reinforces the presence of the place. Imagined by byHaus, the logotype design is inspired by the idea of contrasts, inherent in the nature of the place. Thus, the spa’s hot/cold duality is expressed by filled/outlined pictograms as well as the thin/bold typo lines. The result is a unique font, where each letter explores this duality. Functional and surprising, the iconographic system follows this same pattern. The graphic patterns recall the water’s ripple effect and steam as well as MontSaint-Bruno’s topography of Mont-Saint-Bruno. The whole evokes a visual universe steeped in mystery.
