Project HEC Montréal Édifice Hélène-Desmarais Canada
By Provencher_Roy Québec, Canada provencherroy.ca
A Beacon of Higher Architecture
The talents at Provencher_Roy have crafted a groundbreaking design for the new Hélène Desmarais Building at HEC Montréal. The 24,000-squaremeter structure, recipient of the Award of the Year in Architecture, epitomizes modernity, functionality, and sustainability.
A STRONG HERITAGE
The new construction pays homage to HEC Montréal’s rich history while embracing its future. Located in the Ville-Marie borough, where the institution was originally founded in 1907, the new building reflects a deep connection to its roots. Its design integrates the historic essence of the site with a modern architectural statement, aligning with the school’s ambition to balance heritage, international presence, and sustainable development.
PART OF THE URBAN FABRIC
The building features a striking combination of glass, stone, and metal, creating a dynamic and light-filled façade that respects Montréal’s architectural heritage. The flow of circulation is organized around two perpendicular axes, leading to a grand five-story atrium with sculptural staircases and elevators. This layout enhances connectivity and integrates the building into the urban landscape, making it a prominent new addition to the neighborhood.
FOSTERING SOCIAL INTERACTIONS
Designed with community well-being at its core, the building promotes interaction among students, faculty, and professionals. The spacious layout includes a community cafeteria and diverse office spaces, encouraging cross-disciplinary and cross-generational dialogue. Natural light fills the building, creating a warm, inviting environment. Art installations by Québécois artists Nicolas Baier and Ludovic Boney add to the building’s charm, reflecting the project’s commitment to aesthetic and functional excellence.
ECO-FRIENDLY PRACTICES
As a model of sustainable architecture, the project incorporates locally sourced materials and achieves LEED Gold Certification. The building’s façade features a high-performance glass membrane, significantly surpassing the National Building Code’s thermal requirements. This careful attention to material choice and energy performance underscores the building’s role as a leading example of responsible architecture.
JURY’S
KUDO
“A true testament to contemporary architectural excellence, blending modern design with environmental stewardship.”
French Artistry & Kitsch Aesthetics
True to its name, Thailand’s French Kitsch Café embodies a unique fusion of French sophistication and playful kitsch. More than just a French pastry shop, it celebrates the owner's love for French bulldogs, infusing a playful yet elegant identity into the café's ambiance.
A CROISSANT ON THE SIDE
The café's design concept, elaborated by TOUCH Architect, aims to amplify the café’s identity through the art of kitsch, embracing imperfection through architectural elements and materials that evoke a whimsical interpretation of the classic French croissant.
A CATHEDRAL INSPIRATION
Drawing inspiration from French cathedrals, renowned for their architectural grandeur, the café's design adopts rhythmic arches as its central motif. Unlike traditional symmetrical arches, these are deliberately imperfect and vary in scale. Their peculiar curves mimic those of the celebrated French buttery pastry.
CURVES OF LIGHT
Its ground floor’s antique-modern looking arches cast intriguing shadows and refract light through its cathedral-like windows. A large, imperfect arch spans from the counter to the second floor, creating a seamless spatial flow and highlighting the multifunctional counter as a focal point visible from both levels. Upstairs, inverted arches incorporate voids that allow sunlight to filter in while serving as shading devices.
CONCRETE AESTHETICS
Textured concrete plays a pivotal role in reinforcing the café's concept of perfect imperfection. Its rough finish authentically reflects the material's inherent beauty, enhancing the café's aesthetic appeal. Throughout the space, from furniture to decorative elements and LED lighting, concrete underscores the graceful imperfections of the arches, creating a memorable café experience.
JURY’S KUDO
"The café truly stands as a testament to creative design innovation, offering both a delightful culinary experience and a visual and tactile journey through a space in which imperfection is celebrated as an art form.”
Two Towers
On the remote island of Manshausen in Northern Norway, the third main development of the Island Resort was completed with the construction of these Two Towers, a design by Snorre Stinessen Architecture.
COAL TO COAST
Perched on the edge of a stone quay that once housed coal stores near the waterways of the island's historic fishing industry, these two towers display charred wooden cladding that pays homage to this industrial past, contrasting sharply with the sleek facades of the nearby Manshausen 2.0 seacabins. The burnt black absorbs light, creating a striking visual contrast.
SEASIDE SANCTUARY
While the Manshausen seacabins blend indoor-outdoor living with cantilevered viewing platforms, the two towers offer a private sea view downstairs and an open skylight above the bedroom. Each luxury cabin features a custom queen-size bed, DUX mattresses, a fold-down work desk, and a small balcony sheltering the entrance. A central multi-functional box houses technical equipment, a minibar, and a sleek bathroom with custom design elements and Grohe wellness products.
BURNT ELEGANCE
The exterior cladding showcases the shou sugi ban technique using burnt larch, highlighting the cabins' commitment to sustainability. Made primarily of cross-laminated timber, the cabins also feature a glass front wall and ceiling made from structural gla zing and a fourth wall entirely clad in solar panels to maximize energy efficiency.
FEATURING CLASSICS
Commanding a panoramic ocean view, the intimate living room features a plush blue Tufty-Time sofa by B&B Italia. Illumination is elegantly provided through integrated LED strips and a curated selection of Tolomeo lamps from Artemide, enhancing the ambiance with refined lighting options.
JURY’S KUDO
"A Manshausen Marvel! A thoughtful nod to the past and an inspiring landmark for the future!"
Heavy Metal
In 2021, Wutopia Lab was challenged to design a central building for a creative industrial park set in Shanghai, China.
A CULTURAL FORTRESS
From a former rundown hangar rises the Copper Blockhouse, a multi-functional spiritual fortress. This innovative design aimed to transcend typical commercial spaces, using the museum concept as a symbol of modern spirituality and introspection, and provides a versatile space for exhibitions, performances, and events.
NAUTICAL INSPIRATION
Embracing inspiration from nautical machinery, copper is chosen as the primary material. The design features a striking arched structure, reflecting the construction of a ship. Ensuring both durability and symbolic protection, the building's keel, made from welded structural steel and covered in copper plates, springs from the imagery of "Full Metal Jacket."
GLEAMING INTERIORS
Inside, guests enter a polished stainless-steel space that serves dual purposes as a café and a stage. This area highlights the architects' creative vision with its sharp, reflective qualities. To enhance the building's interior, a large black wading pool on the north side creates a striking visual effect. This design feature makes the Copper Blockhouse resemble a submarine rising from the water, adding a dramatic and mythical quality to the structure.
A PLACE TO PAUSE
In contrast to the park's elaborate designs, the Copper Blockhouse maintains a minimalist approach. By preserving elements of the site's history, such as a newspaper wall and a large tree, the building acts as a safe haven in which to enjoy a contemplative pause amidst the park’s vibrancy.
JURY’S KUDO
"An immersive and engaging design that stands out within its environment and enriches the visitor experience by blending functionality with deep introspection."
By Provencher_Roy Québec, Canada provencherroy.ca
A New Beacon of Light
Provencher_Roy has revitalized Montréal’s Old Port with a stunningly striking new addition: its 65-meter Grand Quai Tower.
A MODERN LANDMARK
This architectural marvel features a panoramic belvedere that offers breathtaking views of the city, the Saint Lawrence River, and Mount Royal, serving as both a beacon for tourists and a bold new landmark in the urban landscape.
ALONG THE SHORE
Positioned on the shoreline, the Tower provides exceptional vistas and acts like a lighthouse, drawing visitors in and enhancing the city's appeal. Its cantilevered observatory offers a dramatic viewpoint, establishing the Tower as a pivotal urban icon visible from both the water and pedestrian pathways in Old Montréal.
A TRIBUTE TO THE PAST
The Tower pays homage to Montréal’s industrial history with its robust concrete and steel structure, echoing the design of an earlier grain transfer tower. Situated atop the revamped cruise terminal’s rooftop garden, it bridges past and present, asserting its place as a contemporary symbol of the city.
ILLUMINATING
THE NIGHT
At night, the Tower transforms into a shimmering beam of light. Its lighting design, featuring contrasting cold and warm tones, highlights its sculptural elements and integrates seamlessly with Old Montréal’s nocturnal ambiance. This meticulous lighting design not only enhances the Tower’s visual impact but also enriches the nighttime experience for both neighboring residents and visiting tourists.
JURY’S KUDO
"What an impactful project that creates an important landmark to be seen from afar."
A Community-Centric Hub
This Chinese new housing community library is a three-storey structure expertly designed by Y.AD Studio to meet diverse needs.
BUILDING EXPERIENCES
Its first floor functions as a vibrant "community living room," hosting exhibitions, casual dining, and events, while the second floor focuses on reading and studying. On the third level, families and children are invited to partake in various learning activities hosted in spaces made for reading and play.
LIGHT & SPACE
Architecturally, the library makes a strong visual impact with its 14.9-meter-high vertical glass curtain wall, which spans the three floors of the lobby. This transparent facade not only serves as a captivating visual element but also draws in natural light, blurring the boundaries between the indoor and outdoor environments. The south-facing glass wall frames the 50-meter landscape belt, integrating outdoor views into the interior. Additionally, a long skylight illuminates the atrium, creating a bright and airy atmosphere while showcasing the interplay of light and shadow, which enhances the spatial experience.
THEMATIC APPEAL
The design incorporates two main themes: "Container of Light" and "Lit Wall & Book Stairs." The library features layers of book walls and cascading stairs, reminiscent of a lighthouse, guiding the visual focus and creating a spiritual refuge for the community. The warm tones and strategic use of natural light evoke comfort and positivity, while the high-ceiling atrium introduces varying moods and emotional responses through its dynamic lighting. This thoughtful approach aims to cultivate a sense of ritual, contemplation, and intellectual engagement, making the library not just a place for reading but a space for personal reflection and community connection.
A SANCTUARY FOR LEARNING
Blending functional design with emotional depth, the new library is a testament to architectural excellence. Its innovative use of space, light, and thematic elements creates an environment that is both visually striking and profoundly engaging, offering a sanctuary for learning and community interaction.
By Martin Walker, Nick Van Buren, Kurtis Vallee
All Aboard!
HAVN Saunas is an innovative Nordic spa and wellness facility situated on the edge of Victoria’s inner harbor in beautiful British Columbia. The transformative conversion of a 1943 naval vessel into a floating sauna represents a groundbreaking approach to urban design.
REZONING & RISING
Architects Martin Walker, Nick Van Buren, and Kurtis Vallee cultivate the creation of spaces that foster a profound sense of belonging. Central to their design philosophy was the integration of community input, resulting in a successful rezoning application process with the unanimous support from both Victoria’s City Council and the local community.
SALVAGING THE PAST
The decision to retrofit an old vessel, instead of constructing new concrete floats, posed challenges but aligns with HAVN’s commitment to minimizing environmental impact. Approximately 33 cubic meters of beautiful local cedar, sourced from ocean-salvaged logs, were used exclusively for saunas, ceilings, siding, trim, and fencing. The vessel’s transformation involved repurposing steel and converting stainless steel wine vats into cold plunge tanks, resulting in saving 904,000 lbs of steel and reducing 1,630 tonnes of embodied carbon.
INSPIRING THE FUTURE
The out-of-the-box project aspires to inspire others to explore creative uses for underutilized areas in their communities and to innovatively repurpose decommissioned industrial and military equipment.

The Black House
Located along the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, this ecologically footprintfree house stands out as an innovative prototype, utilizing passive strategies such as cross ventilation and solar shading.
ADVOCATING FOR LOCAL

Grand Prix International Architecture Project Bois, verre, pierre Canada
By Jean-Maxime Labrecque Québec, Canada inpho.ws
Enhancing Heritage
This 1870 heritage house in Laval embodies exceptional historical architecture. To preserve its charm, the expansion project features chosen volumes and materials that blend harmoniously with the existing environment.
HISTORY AND MODERNITY
Constructed of wood and glass, the annex to the stone house incorporates elements from the original building, including an old summer kitchen. This side extension is rebuilt with contemporary materials such as glass and charred wood. This modern reinterpretation, envisioned by Jean-Maxime Labrecque, pays homage to the elements of the past while adding a touch of modernity respectful of the site's history.
RESPECT FOR NATURE
The new space is carefully integrated between the house and a towering fir tree. Thanks to foundations on stilts, the intervention respects the roots of the conifer, ensuring its longevity. This technical solution allows the added volume to appear to float, creating a minimal visual and physical connection with the ground while preserving the tree.
A SUCCESSFUL DIALOGUE
The materiality of the extension dialogues with that of the existing house. The aged wood of the barn and the glass of the windows are used complementarily. The glass, used on the north and west, reflects the stone facade, creating a constant visual homage. The modesty and sobriety of this intervention highlight the expressiveness of the age-old house without interfering with its historical features.
IMPRESSION & LIGHTNESS
The cantilever accentuates the dialogue between the earthbound masonry foundations of the ancestral home, required by the weight of the original dressed stone, and the lightness of the new glass volume.
JURY’S KUDO

A Clean Slate
Nestled on the shores of Lake of Two Mountains, the Slate showcases an architectural masterpiece that integrates seamlessly with its environment. The project features a sprawling single-level residence, designed with an eye for both luxury and ecological impact.
CEDAR & SLATE
The Slate employs materials that emphasize simplicity, durability, and connection to the site. Cedar and slate dominate the exterior, with slate also featured in the landscaping for a cohesive look. Inside, cedar paneling adds warmth and character to the spaces. The building’s energy efficiency is enhanced by a well-designed envelope, high-performance mechanical systems, and geothermal heating and cooling, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility.
SEAMLESS TRANSITIONS
The home’s design by Blouin Beauchamp Architectes fosters a harmonious connection between indoor and outdoor environments. The entrance, flanked by slate walls and a garden, introduces a small interior garden that invites natural light. A central atrium organizes the home’s functions, featuring a water element on slate slabs that creates a shimmering effect. Expansive sliding glass panels offer panoramic views of the bay, while a wooden roof extends to provide shade and protection from the elements.
STRATEGIC LAYOUT
From the outset, the design cleverly divides the house into two distinct volumes: the living area and the car collection garage. The living area, a square shape positioned on the western side of the property, offers unobstructed views of the lake. The garage, designed as a linear volume, is embedded into the ground, providing privacy and reducing visual clutter.
A DISCREET COLLECTION
The exceptional house’s architecture meticulously balances the need to host the owner’s prominent car collection with strategies to minimize the home’s environmental footprint, creating a spectacular living space that enhances the natural beauty of the site.
The car collection is housed in a two-level volume, strategically positioned to minimize its footprint and visual impact. Continuous wooden cladding conceals the garage doors, maintaining a cohesive and elegant façade that integrates smoothly with the overall design.

Wooden Wonder
Set in Frelighsburg, Quebec, Maison Melba redefines sustainable renovation with a striking blend of ecological sensitivity and architectural finesse.
BACK IN THE DAYS
Originally a 1970s automobile garage, this passive-house retrofit now serves as a dynamic space for living, creating, and community engagement, harmonizing with the surrounding Eastern Townships landscape.
A NEW BENCHMARK
Sustainability is a cornerstone of the renovation. The old building envelope was carefully dismantled, preserving the wooden frame, while a new double-stud wall structure was added to enhance insulation and reduce thermal bridges. It stands as a testament to blending architectural beauty with environmental performance. This innovative retrofit not only revitalizes a historical structure but also integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings, setting a benchmark for sustainable and community-focused design.
A RUSTIC CHARM
This project highlights a meticulous approach to blending old and new. By preserving the building's original wooden frame and distinctive mansard silhouette, Atelier L’Abri pays homage to the region's rustic charm while integrating advanced passivehouse technology. The transformation respects Frelighsburg’s agricultural heritage and aligns with the new owner’s values of sharing and collaboration.
LIVING ON THE OPEN

A Woodland Transformation
Tucked away in a lush ravine, a 1960s bungalow has been reimagined into a contemporary retreat. The thoughtful renovation reconfigures the home's massing, creating a space that’s both cozy and versatile, perfect for family living and entertaining.
INSPIRED BY PORTUGAL
As visitors approach the house via a serpentine driveway, the home's architecture, imagined by Orangeink Design, slowly reveals itself. Echoing homes seen by the owners on a cherished trip to Portugal, an L-shaped boardwalk leads to the entrance, forming a sleek, minimal courtyard that hovers above the terrain.
THE HEART OF THE HOME
Central to the design is a spacious, open-plan kitchen, dining, and family area that fosters both daily comfort and lively gatherings. Here and there, quiet zones are strategically placed, while secondary bedrooms find a home in a discreet wing. As for the master suite, it is tucked behind the family room, linked by a glass walkway with sweeping ravine views.
ASCENDING INTO NATURE
A central staircase, flanked by a vibrant green wall, mirrors the ravine’s descent, while a streamlined steel staircase ascends to a rooftop deck featuring a cozy wood-burning fireplace. On the lower level, transformed from an indoor pool, it now offers a covered deck with a hot tub, seamlessly integrated within the forest floor.
CONNECTED MATTER
The interior design features a harmonious mix of reused bricks and charred shou sugi ban wood siding, blending the home's aesthetic with its natural surroundings. This renovation not only updates the home but sets a precedent for sustainable, long-lasting living environments, reducing waste and extending the building’s life.

SCULPTURAL ELEGANCE
The villa’s aesthetic is defined by a striking contrast between its sleek white volume and the rough natural stone of the garden walls. This deliberate juxtaposition highlights the building’s sculptural quality while anchoring it firmly in its landscape. The sophisticated material palette includes white plastered walls, warm wooden oak floors, and local limestone used extensively for floors, bathrooms, chimneys, and walls. These elements serve as a fitting backdrop for the owner's contemporary art collection.
THE ART OF SPACE
The villa’s free-floating L-shaped living and kitchen area is designed with exacting vistas that enhance both functionality and visual appeal. Under the visionary touch of naturehumaine, a typical 1940s "shoebox" house in RosemontPetite-Patrie was reborn as a radiant lightbox.
BRING THE PAST INTO THE FUTURE
The project balances heritage preservation with modern innovation, embracing the neighborhood’s legislation of retaining original façades while adding a sleek second story. This strategic setback allows for an intimate green terrace, offering a serene oasis amidst the urban bustle.
LET THE LIGHT SHINE IN
Designed for an art-and-architecture-loving couple, the home integrates an impressive art collection woven into its fabric. The goal was clear: to create a luminous, unique living space brimming with natural light and tranquility.
SHADOWS & DEPTH
The design features a refined palette of materials: white oak furniture, herringbone oak floors, and subtle black-and-white contrasts that evoke the "lightbox" concept. The black-painted steel façade accentuates the existing brickwork, while interior steel blades create dynamic light and shadow patterns, enhancing privacy and depth.
OPEN FLOW
The architectural layout centers around a new courtyard, with the original shoebox forming one boundary and a modern two-story addition defining the other. A glass passage connects these elements, enhancing the sense of openness. Inside, a central staircase, crafted from a continuous steel fold, acts as the home's sculptural centerpiece, seamlessly linking the spaces and allowing light to flow through.

Immersed in mountainous reliefs and surrounded by maples and fir trees, this secondary residence offers its resident family a spectacle that evolves with the seasons, from the blazing colors of autumn to the verdant awakening of spring.
A BEAUTY REFURBISHMENT
Having owned the land for over five years, the couple enlisted Thellend Fortin Architects to build their secondary residence. An old building that no longer met their needs was demolished to make way for new construction, while maintaining the family’s attachment to this place of memories and recreation.
PRESERVING PRIVACY
Located in the heart of the Eastern Townships, close to Mont-Orford National Park, the project evolved through several sketches to meet the owners' demands, seeking to combine traditional vision with contemporary architecture. Challenges included creating a link between the elevated land and the roadway, as well as preserving privacy while maximizing connection with the surrounding landscape.
WARMTH AND HARMONY
The architecture, interior design, and landscaping were meticulously crafted to create harmony between the warmth desired by the owners and the functional approach of contemporary architecture. The wooden cladding and zinc metal siding echo the local built heritage, while the structure plays with solids and voids, offering both protected and open spaces.
RESPECTED TOPOGRAPHY
The site's topography was leveraged to create a walkway leading from the public road to the residence and its garden pavilion. Inside, the floors follow in a tripartite composition. Each level offers a unique experience connected to the surrounding nature, with specific finishes that highlight the contrast between the warm interior and the raw exterior.

Award of the Year
CONSTRUCTION & REAL ESTATE
With an impressive area of 62,075 square feet spread over two floors, the brandnew facilities of La Maison Lavande, a flagship in the agrotourism and perfumery sector of the Lower Laurentians in Quebec, have won the Construction and Real Estate Project of the Year Award.
AN AMBITIOUS MANDATE
The mandate given to the general contractor included the relocation of the head office of the family business to the edge of a farmland in Innoparc Albatros in St-Eustache, the centralization of design and manufacturing activities, and the expansion of its production center for lavender-based products, La Fabrique des Filles.
RUSTIC AND SCANDINAVIAN
With well-defined geometric lines, the rustic and Scandinavian architectural design of the new building, imagined by Syscomax architect Jean-François Dupuis, meets the latest energy-saving standards and features impressive architecture on all its facades thanks to its abundant windows, curtain walls, and ground floor offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding fields.
MAKING ITS MARK
The leaders of the family business wanted to reflect, with this new production center, the well-established brand image and establish a clear connection between this new location and the agrotourism establishment with a rural look also located in Saint-Eustache.
THE SYMBOL OF THE HOUSE
A large atrium thus represents the symbolic house gable, a strong attribute present in the culture and image of the company. Its cathedral ceiling, adorned with a skylight, an architectural staircase, and wood accents, is bathed in natural light filtered by the surrounding landscape, giving the whole a warm, cozy, and more than inviting atmosphere.

The Race is On!
When this Swiss brand of running products and accessories decided to open its newest retail store in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, it entrusted SAJO with the mandate. The objective? To create an enriching customer experience to engage and captivate runners.
FUNCTIONAL WALLS
Made from a blend of aluminum and stainless steel, a hidden "magic wall" stores running shoes, sorted by their performance. With a quick turn, customers can remove each segment of the wall and easily access the entire collection. As for the brand's clothing, an essential part of the offering, they are displayed under LED lighting and in front of an LED wall that simulates the colors of the natural environment.
VARIED FINISHES
It is the various complementary finishes that give the space its unique character. On the sales floor, Cimento tiles add a cementlike appearance that harmoniously echoes the gray plaster of the stairs, certain walls, and the podium.
EARTH & SKY
Behind the steps of the podium on the second floor, a plaster wall composed of different shades of blue simulates layers of earth. Reminiscent of a nocturnal sky, the store's ceiling consists of two heights. The interior ceiling, at 12 feet high, is finished in blue stucco, while the upper ceiling, set at 22 feet from the floor, is constructed of corrugated metal painted a deep blue, with the perimeter soffit covered in blue mirrors.
TIED TO THE PHILOSOPHY
In line with On's philosophy of promoting accessibility for all, the second floor of the store contains no products and is instead used for various community-building and training events. Having already won the hearts of runners, this Brooklyn store becomes a place for meetings and exchanges.

Living the Dream
Created by Belvedair, this house nestled in nature is the dream of a lifetime. Designed to be the client's ultimate haven of peace, this ready-to-finish home adopts architectural signature that is both impressive and minimalist.
EFFICIENT & ENERGY-SAVING
LEED certified at the Platinum level and Novoclimat, this metalroofed construction features eco-friendly finishes. Double-walled structures insulated with pressure-injected cellulose, triple-glazed windows, and Watersense certified plumbing are just some of the elements that enhance its energy efficiency.
GARDENING ALL YEAR ROUND
Here, the bioclimatic greenhouse attached to the house brought its share of technical challenges due to the high humidity levels it could generate. Such a gardening feat was made possible by using rot-proof materials and carefully sealing the greenhouse from the garage.
SHARING THE LANDSCAPE
Exemplary, the dense and diverse landscaping maximizes native plants that are drought-resistant. It was designed to be sheltered from erosion while benefiting from runoff water.
CONTEMPLATING NATURE
Inside, there are common living spaces that are open, modern, and abundantly bathed in natural light. The generous courtyard windows, the natural wood-finished cathedral ceiling, the choice of organic materials such as leather, and a color palette reminiscent of nature make it a perfect place for communion between man and earth.

Urban Sanctuary
Following the exceptional creation of Montreal’s tallest residential tower, entrusted by Groupe Brivia to the architectural firm MSDL, 1 Square Phillips, located in the heart of downtown Montreal, is expanding with a second phase for a beautifully evolved development.
IN THE HEART OF THE ACTION
In direct contrast to the first phase, the second phase of the project, shorter but just as high-end as the first, completes the unique concept of a privileged living environment, a true oasis of calm and greenery amidst the bustling city.
AT THE URBAN SCALE
While phase 1 offered a lifestyle that towers above the city's hustle and bustle with spectacular views day and night, the second residential phase proposes a lifestyle more marked by the proximity to the urban environment.
BETWEEN GOOD NEIGHBORS
Offering a perfect balance between the city's energy and absolute tranquility, the condos and studios of phase 2 propose a new connection to the urban environment and the vibrant downtown life while providing the privilege of privacy, peace, and well-being. This means that each condo and studio has been designed in the pure spirit of the metropolis to create intimate and warm living spaces. All within a setting with breathtaking common areas.
MONTREAL MIXED
The avant-garde architecture is inspired by Art Nouveau and revisits the movement by incorporating current manufacturing techniques and modern materials. Reflecting the city’s typical diversity, the dialogue between the tall glass tower and its shorter, textured concrete counterpart illustrates the subtle connection the residence maintains with the surrounding historic buildings.

Project Grand Quai du Port de Montréal Canada
By NIPPAYSAGE + Provencher_Roy Québec, Canada nippaysage.ca provencherroy.ca
Setting Sail
In 2015, Montreal launched an ambitious project to revitalize its pier. The idea was to enhance the industrial landscape by blending architecture with nature, while meeting the needs of the numerous cruise passengers, now exceeding 100,000 annually.
A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON THE RIVER
The firms NIPPAYSAGE and Provencher_Roy redesigned the eastern end of the lowered pier to provide a direct experience with the river. This maneuver also helped to strengthen the quay's structure. The innovative lowering of the quay structure offers unprecedented access to the river, seamlessly merging architecture with the natural environment.
A PERFECT PANORAMA
This transformation creates an inclusive space that enriches the cultural and social fabric of the city while preserving its historic charm. A large lawn sloping eastward, descending 6 meters towards the river, provides a breathtaking view of the iconic Habitat 67 and Jean Drapeau Park.
EMBRACED BY MONTREALERS
Since its inauguration in 2018, the Grand Quai has become a mustvisit spot for Montrealers. By rehabilitating existing infrastructure, the new quay transforms private space into public space, turning industrial heritage into an attractive and sustainable cultural space, reducing waste and preserving resources.
A PLUS FOR EVERYONE
Integrated into the revitalization of the Old Port, this project enhances Montreal's tourist appeal while improving the quality of life for residents. It is a real asset for the city, mixing history, nature, and modernity. Exceptional in its execution, the quay designs a most splendid city entrance for all these vacationers arriving by boat.
JURY’S KUDO
"Undoubtedly, this project serves as a destination in its own right. Bravo for the warm welcome on the Montreal waterfront!"
Nestled in Kelana Jaya, Malaysia, this pioneering residential development sets new standards for contemporary living, placing strong emphasis on comfort and quality. Its signature statement piece: its rooftop terrace, courtyard, playground and its jaw-dropping lazy-river-like pool.
FROM RUNOFF TO ROOFTOP
The rooftop landscaping project emerged from the necessity for change, located adjacent to a neglected water body once overrun with district runoff. Despite challenges, the project team at WAA embarked on an ambitious journey to rejuvenate this urban ecosystem.
GREEN OASIS
Spanning eight acres with two towers rising fifty-one floors each, housing a total of four hundred fifty-two units per tower, the development adheres to local green space mandates. Four acres were dedicated to a central oasis, seamlessly integrated with a functional podium deck. Reflecting the organic ethos of the landscape, the podium's design harmoniously blends form and function, nurturing diverse ecosystems.
LAZY RIVER BLISS
The environmental deck caters to community needs with tranquil water features, lush greenery, and a 190-meter lazy river symbolizing sustainable living. A range of amenities includes a pool complex with eco-conscious water play, a rooftop multipurpose court, and herb gardens promoting holistic well-being. The overall landscape architecture project pioneers contemporary urban living where nature and community thrive together.
SHAPING SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES
In its fusion of architectural innovation and environmental stewardship, the project serves as a beacon of hope and transformative design, fostering vibrant, sustainable communities.
JURY’S KUDO
"The landscape development fosters holistic well-being and sets a new standard for sustainable urban living. What a grand way of rejuvenating a neglected water body into a verdant public haven."
BAM strikes again! The bold landscape design of the Shenzhen Buji Residences supercharges the residing housing community’s spirit through an exciting mix of patterns, colors, and lush green spaces and redefines the possibilities of high-density living.
URBAN LIVING REDEFINED
Phase One introduces a network of interconnected playgrounds at the heart of the community. The iconic “Playscraper,” a blend of playground and skyscraper, captures the imagination of residents and visitors, serving as both a playground and a visual landmark.
MAGENTA BLUE
In Phase Two, a magenta-hued corridor weaves its way through the development, offering shelter and guidance to residents as they navigate towards the vibrant focal point: the public pool. The passageway's striking colors and thoughtful design create an inviting atmosphere that draws people to the very heart of the community.
THE HEART OF IT ALL
At the center of the Buji Residences sits Dance Moon Plaza, a lively gathering space adorned with disco balls and set against a purple moon. This enchanting plaza serves to host community celebrations and events, such as dance parties and skateboard competitions.
THE QUIETER SIDE
To even the fun out, BAM introduces some serene and tranquil garden oases that contrast with the high-energy social spaces. While Phase One features a serene moon gate desert garden that evokes traditional Chinese aesthetics, Phase Two showcases themed gardens like a garden of love and a chess-themed oasis. These lush green spaces seamlessly blend with the surroundings, offering moments of calm and reflection amidst the urban landscape.

Love is in the Air!
At the heart of a new mixed-use tower neighborhood, built on former industrial lands along Toronto's harbor, Love Park replaces a 1950s freeway offramp. This transformation brings a much-needed heart to the tower district, creating a communal space that had been missing until now.
CROSS YOUR HEART
The site optimizes an infrastructural knot situated curiously at the center of some of the city’s top destinations. This natural meetup point, a fulcrum along the waterfront’s east-west axis. Here, giant building volumes and ubiquitous glass curtain walls have created a district in need of a distinguished signature. And hundreds of thousands of citizens look down over the site daily…
ANCHOR A COMMUNITY
A space of simplicity and grandeur, Love Park aims to be both a local community amenity and a gathering place for residents, workers, visitors and tourists. To anchor the park’s role in the heart of an emerging downtown neighborhood, the landscape architects of CCxA, in collaboration with gh3* were inspired by the semiotic universality of the heart to create a meaningful symbol for the district.
SAVE A TREE
The park is punctuated by a basin in the shape of a heart, surrounding a preserved catalpa tree previously hidden at the center of the former expressway offramp.
PLANT AN OASIS
From an environmental point of view, Love Park is planned to create an urban oasis that addresses important issues related to climate adaptation and resilience. A porous system of drains captures runoff for infiltration into the ground and serves the park’s 38 new trees and minimizes flows to the municipal stormwater systems, already operating at full capacity. The contiguous leaf canopy will also help reduce urban heat island effect at a very sunny spot exacerbated by reflection from the adjacent skyscrapers. As the new park matures, trees will grow, and vines will flower and cover the trellis. Love Park will grow to fulfill its ambition as a green oasis at the heart of the city.
JURY’S KUDO
"What an extraordinarily beautiful project! At first glance, it appears to be quite simple, but as we delve into the details, the complexity of the design reveals itself. Bravo!"
The Ecotourism of Tomorrow
The master plan for Sainte-Thérèse Island aims to establish the island as a leading ecotourism park by 2035, positioning it as a key destination within the Eastern Archipelago.
AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE
The plan presents a multidisciplinary vision that integrates urban planning, landscape architecture, history, biology, and mobility. In the long run, Sainte-Thérèse Island will offer an immersive experience accessible to all, from school groups to nature lovers. The project envisions friendly and dynamic pathways, enriched with interpretive panels, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the essence of the site through events and educational activities. Each space will be designed to ensure universal accessibility, enabling everyone to fully enjoy this enriching experience.
AN ECOLOGICAL COMMITMENT
The project stands out for its innovative ecological approach, aimed not only at minimizing its environmental impact but also at creating and protecting habitats for wildlife and plant species. The use of durable materials and local resources, such as sustainable wood, underscores the commitment to sustainability and resilience in the face of climate change.
A DYNAMIC COLLABORATION
The design of the master plan was marked by a collaborative approach. Following a site visit, a workshop helped define a vision and planning principles in partnership with stakeholders. Moreover, the Mohawk community was significantly involved, contributing to the project according to its specific concerns and needs.
A SUSTAINABLE MODEL
In short, the Sainte-Thérèse Island project is a remarkable example of sustainable development and harmonious urban design. It demonstrates the importance of creating spaces that respect and enhance their environment while offering a rewarding and accessible experience for visitors.
JURY’S KUDO
"This master plan illustrates how an ambitious vision can lead to a project that fosters both community well-being and nature conservation."

Project Quai de Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Canada
By Groupe A / Annexe U Québec, Canada groupea.qc.ca
A Historic Wharf
The wharf of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, located in Quebec, has been an emblematic feature of the Côte-de-Beaupré since the colony's early days. It became a strategic point with the arrival of pilgrims by boat, connecting the Saint Lawrence River to the Sainte Anne sanctuary, the largest pilgrimage center in North America.
A MULTIFUNCTIONAL SPACE
The project, carried out by Groupe A / Annexe U, aims to create a multifunctional, accessible, and lively public space, complementing the region's recreational offerings. In summer, river shuttles connect Sainte-Anne to the Old Port of Quebec, integrating the wharf into the regional tourist network.
A REGIONAL SUCCESS
Modest but significant, it demonstrates the importance of preserving and enhancing access to the coastline, especially outside major urban centers. With a humble and budget-conscious execution, it revitalizes an exceptional location between Cap-Tourmente, Cap-Diamant, and Île d'Orléans.
A PROMINENT WELCOME
Visible from Boulevard Sainte-Anne, the welcome pavilion serves as the figurehead of the new installations. Its design highlights the landscape and visual experience of the pilgrimage site. Inspired by boat sheds and local historic houses, the pavilion is versatile and open year-round. Its architecture maximizes natural light intake.
A RHYTHMIC PROMENADE
The promenade begins with fountains along the boulevard and continues towards the coastline, punctuated with benches to enjoy the view. Monumental in design, Jean-Pierre Morin's work "Souffle le vent" marks the end of the path, harmonizing with the natural elements. Here, all materials used are Québec-sourced and meet the durability criteria of the Corporation and the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré.
JURY’S KUDO
"What Conceptual Strength! The urban character of the installations creates an original contrast with the natural elements of the coastline. Absolutely beautiful!"
To encourage ecological transition and generate positive social impacts on the community, Rosemont Park was transformed into a natural ecosystem in 2023.
URBAN OASIS
The park's layout, designed by Projet Paysage, is based on sustainable goals such as optimizing accessibility, creating a green oasis with various seasonal activities, and promoting biodiversity while preserving the existing tree canopy. This is a great example of modern urban planning and design, thanks to the use of innovative technologies and materials.
WILDLIFE IN THE CITY
Measuring around 13,000 square meters, the park is organized into three distinct but connected zones: the Square, the Clearing, and the Urban Woods. Accessible by two entrances, the Square features bike racks and custom-made urban furniture crafted from wood, stone, and metal. A water fountain pours into a dry riverbed, guiding visitors. The Clearing offers an open space with a clover canopy, ideal for stimulating discovery and physical activity through creative wooden modules. Lastly, the Urban Woods, with over 550 trees planted, enriches biodiversity through a micro-forest inspired by the Miyawaki method, integrating fruit trees and melliferous plants.
YEAR-ROUND
This sponge park is fully permeable and resilient to climate change. A dry riverbed welcomes heavy rains, and the paths are made of Solecol, a permeable paving material. In summer, the paths invite you to explore the flora, while in winter, they become a magical skating area.
A GREEN ECOSYSTEM
More than just a place, this is a living ecosystem that evolves with the community and the seasons. It improves air quality, supports urban wildlife, and contributes to residents' health. Combining functionality, aesthetics, environmental sensitivity, social inclusion, and technological innovation, this urban oasis is a truly captivating green space.
JURY’S KUDO
"The diversity of plants is commendable! Congratulations on preserving mature trees and the thoughtful design that results."
Here are two public art works created by Daily tous les jours for the Gaslight District, a new neighborhood being revitalized on the outskirts of downtown Cambridge. They aim to strengthen community ties through interactive experiences and local history.
JURY’S KUDO
"Interactive and creative, these art installations create movement and sound that define a district and unite its community. Well done! "
HELLO, HELLO
The first work welcomes visitors at the entrance to the neighborhood, at the foot of a bridge over the Grand River. This radiant five-story arch, with its reflective facade, invites passersby to use one of three microphones to send messages to the city or the river. The voices are transformed into music and light patterns on the sculpted facade, creating a highly dynamic sound and visual experience.
REACT AND INTERACT
When a message is recorded, it is transformed into lyrical electronic phrases by a vocoder, then into piano notes. Each message is unique, reflecting the tone and cadence of the speaker. Thus, the work emphasizes musical communication and human interaction, contrasting with often impersonal digital exchanges.
RIVER LINES
Anchored in the central courtyard of the Gaslight District, River Lines features a floor with wavy patterns and 62 integrated light rings. This work tells the story of the city by linking the river and the flood line to community rhythms. The interactive floor allows players to create music by connecting points, while a special soundtrack highlights the historic impact of the 1974 flood.
HUMAN ORCHESTRA
The floor is divided into sections dedicated to different instruments, and players trigger notes to create a collective harmony. Visible to all, a large screen displays the players' movements on an animated map. Note: The sound tiles developed for River Lines are designed to withstand outdoor conditions and blend into the pavement pattern without visible hardware. Brilliant!
STRUCTURAL CHALLENGES
The existing terrace, slightly elevated and built on a concrete structure, conditioned the workspace. This means that the objective of maximizing space to accommodate a pool in the restricted courtyard was a significant structural challenge.
OVERFLOW AND INNOVATION
To visually enlarge the pool and the courtyard, the landscape architects envisioned an infinity pool with three overflow sides. This zeroedge pool appears to blend with the newly paved terrace, creating a black mirror effect that reflects the clouds and surrounding trees.
SUMMER COOKING
To the east, the terrace was extended to include an outdoor kitchen, surrounded by tall conifers that provide privacy. A second, smaller terrace was created at the garden level to conceal the pool’s balancing tank and offer a quiet reading nook.
FUNCTIONAL HARMONY
The terrace’s surface, covered with natural stone slabs, and the high wooden fence ensure a soothing aesthetic and create the desired intimacy for this cozy haven. A second glass fence allows controlled access to the pool without blocking the view. The colorful garden furniture adds a lively touch, contrasting with the neutral elements of the design.
Located in a charming neighborhood of Montreal, this garden had lost its original luster over the years. The crumbling brick terrace, moss-covered lawns, and the desire to create recreational spaces and a pool were the starting points for the renovation designed by Stuart Webster Design.

The Blue Lagoon
Astonishing and captivating, this sculpture in the heart of nature, carved from marble to create a water feature, is simply phenomenal. A work of artistic and technical prowess by Patrick Monast.
A HAVEN OF PEACE
In perfect harmony with its surrounding nature, the installation of this mythical work merges seamlessly with the rocky ecosystem, creating a natural lagoon carved into the stone. The undulating design of the steps mimics the movement of water, creating a descent that envelops the bather in peace and tranquility.
A TRANSFORMED ROCK
With masterful stone carving, the unique shape of the pool harmonizes perfectly with its environment. Resembling a kite in the sky, the pool is sculpted in such a way that no natural runoff flows into the water feature. This undeniably artistic beauty required ingenuity and precision from a technical standpoint.
THE DESCENT INTO PARADISE
Through its sinuous path, the bather descends eighteen steps carved directly into the marble cape, gently entering this unique and grandiose basin. The ergonomic design of the pool beautifully marries functionality and art, safety and experience.
A RETURN TO THE SOURCE
This unique and unusual project was a total accomplishment for the artist, who was awarded the Prize of the Year in his category. His skill, desires, and self-surpassing efforts are evident, inviting us to dive in. The result reflects the artist’s passion for stone and his dedication to bringing together materials and elements of Mother Nature.

An Eye in the Sky
JURY’S KUDO
"Interactive and attractive, the sculpture embodies the essence of the city’s ancient roots while celebrating its modern times. Kudos! "
The impressive and interactive urban art sculpture designed by Hu Quanchun thrones over Wangjing City’s downtown area and exudes a sense of societal belonging. The eye in the sky acts here as a convergent force of nature, nothing less.
HONORING THE PAST
The city of Wangjing, once an extensive agricultural land located in the northeast of Beijing, has undergone a remarkable transformation over the decades. Once characterized by its lush fields and quiet villages, it has gradually developed into a dynamic urban center.
MARKING THE PRESENT
Today, Wangjing is renowned for its modern architecture, technological enterprises, and cosmopolitan atmosphere, while still retaining traces of its rich agricultural past. Residential areas, shopping centers, and well-designed green spaces testify to its rapid evolution and growing importance in the Beijing region.
A GLIMPSE INTO TIME
The concept of the project and the form of the landmark sculpture are inspired by the modern interpretation and expression of “Wangjing,” a place with a name rooted in time. To echo the heritage of the place, the design features an abstract image of an “eye” as the primary form of the sculpture.
MADE OF STEEL
Made of mirrored stainless steel, the 18-meter diameter outer circle of the sculpture supports its inner pupil composed of a hyperboloid LED screen thanks to the crossover usage of steel cables. Together, they form a most enticing simple eye-like shape. One we are drawn to. One that marvelously acts as a unifying force of nature. Well played!
Modern, luminous, and poetic, the in situ work created by M.A.D. Collective, in collaboration with Cree artist Jason Carter, is inspired by the aesthetics of the First Nations and translates winter in all its splendor.
LOOKING TO THE HORIZON
Joining the Ring on the esplanade of Place Ville-Marie imagined by the late Claude Cormier, friendly, curious, and luminous polar mammals come to the city and illuminate downtown.
ECOSYSTEMS MEET
Composed of twelve luminous sculptures representing three bears, eight penguins whose survival is threatened by human activity, and a fish, placed near the Ring, the work becomes a fascinating tableau in which visitors participate.
THE ANIMAL KINGDOM
In First Nations traditions, the bear is a powerful symbol of comfort and good omen. By incorporating this deep cultural significance, the luminous installations embody the majesty of the polar bear as well as its power to reassure and inspire hope. As for the fish, it embodies the subtle and powerful connection that unites the distinct worlds of bears and penguins, inhabiting the North and South Poles respectively.
DURABLE MATERIALS
Painted black aluminum, the animals' ridges resist corrosion, traction, and shocks, while the polycarbonate surfaces resist shocks and cold and are fully recyclable. This choice of materials aligns with the purpose.
JURY’S KUDO
"This is a beautiful invitation, radiant both day and night, to the necessity of taking care of our environment! Well done!"
David vs Goliath
By accepting the challenge of photographing the imposing multi-use YUL Downtown project, Stéphane Brugger is in a way facing Goliath.
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
Drawn by the architectural quality of the project, the multitude of different aspects to highlight, and the challenge of photographing such large buildings in the heart of downtown, the photographer did not back down from his adversary.
BIRD'S EYE VIEW
Here, the drone proved to be the indispensable weapon to face the giant. It allows for capturing overall views of the twin towers, Mont-Royal in the background, and producing exceptional aerial shots of the magnificent garden and its unique layout.
A COMPLETE PROJECT
Other important aspects to document and do justice to were the townhouses, the rooftop terrace, and the integration of the project into Montreal's urban fabric. What magnificent attention to the framing and composition of each image.
BACK TO THE FUTURE
The result is architectural photographs that do justice to the quality of the project by taking advantage of the best possible lighting conditions. There is a futuristic je-ne-sais-quoi in the photos, captured in the present. The presence and dominance of a unifying project are felt. An abstract tableau of a very concrete construction.
TRIBUTE AWARD
Louis T. Lemay
A QUIET FORCE
IF YOU ASK LOUIS T. LEMAY TO DEFINE HIMSELF IN A FEW WORDS, HE WILL SIMPLY SAY: "I AM A CURIOUS PERSON WHO LOVES BEAUTY." A FELLOW OF THE ROYAL ARCHITECTURAL INSTITUTE OF CANADA (RAIC), LOUIS TOOK THE HELM OF THE COMPANY IN 1998, SUCCEEDING HIS FATHER. HIS VISIONARY LEADERSHIP HAS PROPELLED LEMAY WELL BEYOND ITS MONTREAL ROOTS, ESTABLISHING OFFICES IN QUEBEC CITY, TORONTO, CALGARY, EDMONTON, NEW YORK, SÃO PAULO, DUBAI, AND MORE TO COME—ILLUSTRATING DYNAMIC EXPANSION AND ONGOING INTERNATIONAL AMBITION.
Thanks to his keen business sense, his ability to integrate models and technologies from various disciplines, and his determination to design innovative and sustainable living environments, Lemay is now one of the largest architectural firms in Canada and a global leader in the built environment. The firm's transdisciplinary practice fosters enriching collaboration among teams, promoting mutual learning and collective progress.
Our conversation takes place in the Montreal offices of the architecture and design firm Lemay. The imposing building, named The Phoenix, is located in the Southwest borough of Montreal, an area undergoing significant transformation where, much like the mythical bird, this part of the city has been literally rising from its ashes for several years now. Symbolizing Lemay's commitment to sustainable architecture—with features like an impressive green wall in the entrance and numerous solar panels—The Phoenix is one of the first zero-carbon certified buildings in Canada.
THE CHILD WHO DREW CITIES
From a very young age, Louis was constantly drawing, passionately and everywhere: little figures, characters, then cities. His father, an architect by profession, encouraged him in this path. At their summer residence, he provided him with a mound of sand and pieces of wood, with which Louis successfully built cities—a desire he maintains to this day.
His father, Georges E. Lemay, was one of the pioneers of modern architecture in Quebec. At a time when the province was economically less dynamic than today, his office derived most of its income from contracts for public buildings, credit unions, and churches. Louis T. Lemay points out that many projects were avant-garde for their time, as evidenced by the Saint-Jean-Baptiste-de-LaSalle church on Pie-IX Boulevard in Montreal.
It's undeniable that his father's influence in modern architectural design shaped Louis, but he insists that the most fundamental quality he inherited from him is perseverance. Keep moving forward, never get discouraged—that is his credo: "Cross the lake in a rowboat, despite strong winds." Louis adds that, as a young man, this principle of perseverance shaped his way of thinking and taught him always to approach problems with solutions in mind.
FORTUNATE ENCOUNTERS
As a young intern in Vancouver with Arthur Erickson—arguably Canada's first internationally renowned architect—he was offered the opportunity to work directly with Erickson. For him, Erickson was not only a mentor but a living legend; he considers him the best Canadian architect. It was then that he realized it is possible to run an office far from its headquarters. This realization was the catalyst for his future vision, now materialized.
Later, he participated in the expansion of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts with Moshe Safdie, the creator of Habitat 67. Safdie, drawing inspiration from the architecture of the museum's old building, designed a high portico marking the entrance, opening onto an interior courtyard crowned by a glass roof. The new building stands out for its modernism, its airy and welcoming aspect, while respecting its environment and echoing neighboring buildings—a tour de force carried out under Louis's attentive eye.
He spent the next two years in Boston, working under Safdie's supervision. This fortunate influence left him captivated by Safdie's creativity and attention to detail—two qualities he would retain in his own practice.
QUEST FOR IDENTITY
He also went to Paris for an internship to study architecture and urban planning, where he realized, with full clarity, that it's impossible to work in isolation.
MISSION
Early in his career, impressed by the exceptional quality, creativity, and sense of responsibility of local architects, designers, and urban planners, Louis quickly made it his mission to utilize these talents in Quebec but also to export them across Canada and the entire world.
THE MAN
He commutes to work by bicycle, and when the weather doesn't permit, he opts for the metro. Passionate about speed, he engages in alpine skiing in winter and delights even more in extreme skiing.
He considers himself relatively humble, preferring the spotlight to be directed not on himself but on the firm's projects. Always optimistic, he greets each morning thrilled at the idea of starting a new day.
Louis's team spirit is evident as soon as you glimpse his office. In the immense open space of Lemay's premises, where more than 200 workstations are aligned in meticulous rows, an unusual element stands out: at the very back, in the last row, Louis himself sits at a desk indistinguishable from the others. This deliberate simplicity perfectly illustrates his commitment to equality and his integration among his teams.
COMMITTED
Louis T. Lemay is an important figure in the business community and is dedicated to several charitable initiatives. He chairs the David Chiasson Foundation, engaged in the social reintegration of individuals struggling with addiction. Additionally, he sits on the board of directors of the Yvon Lamarre Foundation, which provides housing and respite
services to people with physical or intellectual disabilities. His commitment also extends to his role as a governor during the University of Montreal's Carabins' major campaign, illustrating his deep dedication to various causes.
IN HIS SIGHTS
The firm Lemay has been tasked with revitalizing the former heritage Saint-Sulpice Library, located in The Latin Quarter of Montreal. This emblematic building will be transformed to house the Maison de la Chanson et de la Musique du Québec (House of Quebec Song and Music). Louis's eyes light up when he talks about the project's vision: "We want to bring the fullness of art there."
THE FUTURE
When asked what the future holds for architecture in our troubled times, his response is decidedly optimistic and will make you smile. With contagious enthusiasm and raised hands, he proclaims: "The future for us will be fantastic because it is up to us, the community of architects and designers, to find ways to address climatic and demographic challenges. We will be the ones proposing innovative designs
and sustainable solutions to accompany society's evolution. Of course, this will require us to do more, and personally, I always want to do more with my teams while keeping the goal of zero carbon in mind."
CONCLUSION
But where is the businessman hiding in all this? While it's evident that Louis T. Lemay possesses great entrepreneurial talent, we prefer to highlight his ultimate goal: to make the talent of our architects, designers, and urban planners shine worldwide through elegant, adapted, and responsible architecture.
Finally, let's add that throughout our conversation, he enthusiastically expressed his gratitude toward his teams, praising their quest for excellence, creativity, and solidarity.
Louis T. Lemay is a refreshing and energizing personality. To conclude, let's quote Aristotle, even though the citation is apocryphal: "The aim of art is to give form to the secret essence of things, not to copy their appearance. A great man is always willing to be little."
To illustrate Louis and his team's talent, let's examine some remarkable projects that eloquently testify to his career.
THÉÂTRE DE VERDURE (MONTRÉAL) – 2022. The redevelopment of the Théâtre de Verdure has created an open and stimulating space, designed to welcome all Montrealers. Lemay reimagined this space by harmonizing architecture and landscape, theater and park, built environment and nature. This project, respectful of natural continuity, breathes new life into this iconic outdoor performance venue. Awards: Award of Merit (Canadian Architect Awards), Governor General's Medal in Architecture (RAIC), Award of Merit (Architect Magazine), Jury Award (Architizer A+ Awards), Winner in Restoration and Renovation (Architecture MasterPrize), Theater of the Year (Archello), People's Choice Award (AZ Awards - Azure Magazine).
