SKIING
Burn calories while destressing amidst muffled fresh powder, surreal landscape and fresh air.
Everyone from Roger Federer to Prince William to the Beckhams have their own favorite skiing resorts, from Canada to Switzerland. But that doesn’t mean you have to shell out thousands of dollars to follow in their footsteps—the Asia Pacific region has some of the best and highly-rated ski resorts in the world, like Mt. Buller and Mt. Hotham in Australia, or the Yuzawa region of Niigata Prefecture, Japan, which can be reached in under 90 minutes by shinkansen from visafree Tokyo. 6

02 YOGA
Yoga is more than a hip new-age form of exercise followed by celebrities. It is also a state of mind, says Dina Rimandra Handayani.
Yoga is not only good for reducing weight quickly, but also trains your mind and increase flexibility. Dina, a practitioner of Bikram Yoga, a style of yoga which utilizes heated rooms between 35-42 °C to bring out extra sweat and gruel, says that yoga is actually a mind game more than anything. “I like Bikram yoga because I feel like it brings out the best in me. It presents me with a challenge every time I walk into that hot room. Can I endure the heat a little bit longer? And the answer, every time, is yes, I can. That’s why I’m still doing it,” she says.
03
RUNNING Make a connection with the city you live in and the people you work with.
With dozens of world-class marathons and events organized almost every month, it’s hard to miss the rage that is overtaking major roads and business districts in big cities. Today, you can find at least one large-scale running event at any time and participating in one is recommended. You can also give back while doing it; Patrick Kalona is a part of Berlari untuk Berbagi and at the New York Marathon 2012, which was his first full marathon and charity event, he raised funds of Rp 130 million for woman empowerment and education programs for underprivileged children.
QUICK FACT SKIING IN INDONESIA

Perceived to be a rawer, no-holds-barred type of full-contact combat sport backed by slick, Las Vegas-style fighting match, MMA has found wide recognition in Indonesia. MMA events started popping up overnight and last October, the One Pride Mixed Martial Arts season 2 premiere was held at Britama Arena, Kelapa Gading, Jakarta. ROAD CYCLING
SPEED RUN
Cycling is easy on your knees and joints, and bicycles remain the most energy-efficient means of human transport to date.
Indonesia offers one of the best road trip experiences around. Rolling hills, green pasture and magnificent mountains are the norm and the road itself offers endless opportunity to test your guts and glory to the absolute limit.
Essential for doing well at sports is having the muscle power, just like the new BMW 5-Series that is equipped with potent power plants for its petrol to diesel models. For instance, the new two-liter fourcylinder in-line engine in the BMW 530i supersedes the petrol unit previously fitted in the BMW 528i. The turbocharged direct injection engine delivers its peak output of 252 hp . The BMW 530i sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h.

THE BUSINESS ATHLETE GUIDE BOOK
Road bicycle racing has remained popular since the days of the first Tour de France. Cycling has been touted as a non-weight bearing activity that burns almost the same number of calories per minute as running, which is a harder and riskier sport. In Jakarta, you can find various cycling communities ranging from casual bike-toworkers riding garden variety bikes to serious road warriors.
QUICK FACT BURNING CALORIES
A 90-kg. person will burn 120 calories with a leisurely bike ride, but will burn more than double that if he or she increases pedaling to 19 and 22 kph for just 20 minutes. Source: livestrong.com
SLACKLINING WORLD RECORD HOLDER
The record holder for the longest slackline ever is Nathan Paulin, a 22-years old French highliner athlete living in the French Alps. In 2016, he bested himself and doubled his previous slacklining record to reach over 1 kilometer in Aiglun, France.

Not for the circus: slacklining carries serious health benefits including improved balance and core strength, and total body workout.
Scuba diving no longer too extreme for you? Then maybe you can take the next step and enter the world of freediving.
SLACKLINING Slacklining carries serious health benefits including improved balance and core strength, and total body workout. Slacklining is basically tightrope walking. Practiced by Richard Branson and Madonna, according to celebrity fitness trainer Gunnar Peterson, slacklining, or the act of balancing yourself on a piece of rope tied between two anchors, trains not only your balance and core muscles but also is a very fast way to burn calories and fat. Slacklining also requires intense mental acuity, so it also trains your brain and all corresponding cognitive performance.
FREEDIVING
Freediving is basically scuba diving without the scuba system. In other words, freedivers take one deep breath and then, using nothing but fins, they dive as deep down as they can, and then return to surface for that much-needed breath of life. Practitioners of freediving contends that the method offers the purest, unadulterated underwater experience. Freediving has become so popular within the past few years that there are now competitive and non-competitive freediving events, as well as competitive and non-competitive spearfishing and freediving photography. ROCK & ICE CLIMBING Get hard bodies while looking cool doing it.
It’s no secret that business athletes are a driven bunch. Not only do they thrive in the face of challenge, they also welcome it. The sport of rock & ice climbing provides these athletes with the ultimate proving ground—this is a sport that demands the utmost in agility, stamina and sheer willpower. Yet, if Hollywood A-Listers Jared Leto and Kristen Bell can do it, why can’t you? DOWNHILL MOUNTAIN BIKING High-risk and high-adrenaline, Downhill Mountain Biking is the “it” sport for today’s business athletes.
High-risk and high-adrenaline, Downhill Mountain Biking is the “it” sport for today’s business athletes. The sporting trend within the past decade has tended to lean into the extreme angle, with millennials demanding edgier, more actionpacked sports that look cool on social media. Downhill Mountain Biking, or DH as it’s commonly known, takes the tame mountain biking to a new extreme, sending brave souls whizzing downhill with speeds up to 80 km/h over rough terrain. Indonesia is home to many great downhill tracks and vibrant downhill communities, including some executives and entrepreneurs. 10
THE BUSINESS ATHLETE GUIDE BOOK
The sport prioritizes mental stamina above all else, believing that the state of mind is what matters the most. If you’re wondering what parkour is, watch James Bond’s 2005 movie, Casino Royale. Parkour is simply the art of getting from point A to point B in the fastest, most efficient manner, through any kind of obstacle. Combining aerobic, anaerobic, endurance and mental fitness, parkour is a total body workout that can be practiced absolutely anywhere and anytime. If you’d like to learn more, there’s a group that meets every Sunday at 8:30 AM in Taman Krida Loka, Senayan.

GUIDE FOR AN EFFECTIVE WORKOUT
Part of what makes the business athletes so successful is their acute sense of efficiency. The business athletes don’t just exercise, they work out.
01
GET ENOUGH SLEEP Getting enough sleep prior to a workout session is critical, yet it is one of the easiest taboos to violate, alongside reckless eating.
Getting enough rest or sleep prior to your workout day will boost your concentration and endurance, so you can actually get a more effective result. Dina Rimandra Handayani, a big advocate of yoga, says that many sports, including yoga, requires some level of mental and physical acuity. Getting enough sleep prior to her workout session will yield a bigger, more effective impacts, she advises.
The efficient business athletes make full use of time and technology to get more things done. Utilize your time spent stuck in traffic with premium in-car entertainment system to destress and free up more time to exercise.
Consistency is key towards improving your results.
Harry K. Nugraha believes that the key to a successful workout is consistency, a.k.a. discipline. “Consistency is when you wake up every single day and do what you say you will do that day. For me, this also includes working out for one to one-and-a-half hour no matter how I feel that day,” he says. Without consistency, you won’t get far in your goals for a total lifestyle change.
04
Get more work done while you commute and get more time for your exercise. The professional rear-seat entertainment system in the new BMW 5 Series offers occupants in the rear the luxury of two independently controlled, high-resolution 10.2-inch screens with DVD player, which also include connections for MP3 players, USB devices, games consoles and headphones. Passengers can also access the vehicle’s entertainment functions, such as the TV, radio or the DVD changer, as well as surf the Internet or use their phone.
LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE Being realistic about your overall goal will help remarkably in setting your goals.
02
You’d be surprised how much planning can go a long way towards achieving progress in your regiment.
Patrick Kalona, whose sport of choice is running, says that planning constitutes a major part of his workout regimen. “For me, part of my regiment for running is meticulous planning. I like to draw my goals, objectives for the day or week and what to eat and what route to take on a piece of paper and construct a realistic game plan to achieve those goals and objective. Without proper planning, it’s too easy to fall into mediocrity, which results in a plateau.” THE BUSINESS ATHLETE GUIDE BOOK

03
Willson Cuaca, a triathlon athlete, firmly believes that many business athletes can benefit from keeping a level-headed, helicopter approach to your exercise goals. “For example, in triathlon, the end goal is to simply finish the race. That’s it. You don’t have to win. All that is required from you is to get in to the race and do something,” he says. Looking at the big picture allows you to see that in the end, what matters is that you are doing something as opposed to waiting to get in to the race.
06
BE REALISTIC Setting an unrealistic goals will only bring disappointment and defeat your mentality.
Finally, the most important thing is to be honest with yourself. Be happy with what you’re doing, advises Los Angeles celebrity trainer Sebastien Lagree, “If you hate weights, don’t go to the gym. You can lose weight and get in shape with any type of training or activity,” he says. THE BUSINESS ATHLETE GUIDE BOOK

GUIDE FOR A HEALTHY AND FIT BODY Being healthy involves more than just exercising. It also requires a mindset change, and it could be really easy to do once you get used to the idea.
01
WALK MORE Walking more is easy to do and the opportunities present itself in many forms.
The American Heart Association recommends 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, five days a week. If that sounds nigh impossible for the super-busy business athlete, an easy workaround is available: walk more! The Mayo Clinic advises that even a 10-minute walk daily can make a big impact on improving your health. Park your car further from the entrance, or take the stairs instead of the elevator.

FIND INSPIRATION
BREATHE IN FRESH AIR
Inspiration can come in any form or shape and it will help with improving your overall cognitive performance.
Balance out your performance with sufficient leisure time, so all the success will not be naught. Oprah Winfrey, which is Forbes’ number 3 richest self-made woman, is perhaps the biggest advocate for finding the inspiration which makes you happy. Finding your own personal inspiration in the little things you do every day will make a difference in your life, she says, and inspiration can be found in as simple as reading a book or taking a short vacation away from the regular hustle and bustle.
02
Escape from pollution with this inventive Ambient Air Package.
04
MEDITATE You haven’t lived well enough if you don’t supplement your workout regiment with meditation, which is chicken soup for the soul.
Dr. Hedy Kober, a neuroscientist at Yale University who spent a decade studying the effects of mindfulness meditation, says meditating does to the mind what going to the gym did to the body. Studies show that meditation not only helps alleviate stress, anxiety, addiction, depression and eating disorders, among others, but also actually physically changes our brain. Known as neuroplasticity, meditating affects the actual structure of our brains — thickening some areas and making others less dense.
06
Many people underestimate the importance of quality of air they breathe in. Recent studies have revealed that the ambient air quality affects mood, growth in children and can even contribute to neural problems. The new BMW 5 Series sedan uses a special ambient air technology which ensures the air inside the passenger compartment remains fresh and of highquality, while keeping dust and pollution outside. The package also comprises a unit for scenting the vehicle with eight available fragrance options, in the form of cartridges that can be plugged into the system inside the glove compartment.
EAT WELL
Don’t beat yourself up too hard. Indulge in a little treat here and there, and you may find that your quality of life increases.
Eating well is the number one factor which directly contributes to a healthy and fit body, but is also the easiest to violate.
The key to achieving a sound, healthy body and mind is to allow yourself a treat every once in a while. Robbie Clark, a Sydney-based Dietitian and Sports Nutritionist, advises that ruthlessly isolating yourself from the treats you like can actually be counterproductive to your healthy living. Dark chocolate for example is packed with beneficial minerals such as potassium, zinc and selenium, and a 100g bar of it provides 67 per cent of the RDA of iron.
Perhaps the most important advice in this guide, eating a wellbalanced and healthy meal is a crucial skill that any business athlete must master. Patrick Kalona admits that he often struggles with eating well, because when he is stressed out, he tends to go for comfort food or unhealthy food. To compensate, Patrick says that he consumes a lot of dietary fibers and health supplements that makes him feel full throughout the day and as an added bonus, keeps his energy and mental levels stable throughout the day.

A favorite destination of Dina Rimandra Handayani, a holiday to Capri is to escape mundanity and you can expect to traipse among fragrant lemon trees, walk along the warm Sorrentine Peninsula and swim through enchanting grottos. Everything on Capri is a short walk or bus ride; it’s easy to see many attractions in a day trip.

Los Angeles is where the action is at and something is always happening at any one time
Thanks to Hollywood, Venice Beach and Disneyland, Los Angeles, California has remained as popular and cool as ever, and this quirky metropolis is a fascinating mix of cultures, food, sight, sound and smell. Mike Wiluan, who calls Los Angeles his second home, particularly enjoys the city’s buzzing movie industry scene.
The island resort of Capri embodies the perfect microcosm of Mediterranean appeal.
According to legend, Capri was a favorited resort of many Roman emperors, most notably the emperor Tiberius who used to throw those who displeased him off the cliffs of his villa.

The City of Light remains the world traveler’s favorite destinations due to its timeless charms. The metropolis simply oozes with culture, so much so that you can almost taste, smell and hear it. The annual multiple-stage bicycle race brings forth almost an entire month worth of festivities, celebrations and plenty of food and drink. The route for 2018 Le Tour de France has been revealed and features 21 stages as per usual, but this time including exotic new routes on cobbles, dirt roads, two time trials and three big mountain finishes through and over place like Cholet, the mountain chains of the Pyrenees and the Alps, and a finish on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
POSITANO, ITALY
The cliffside town of Positano is a bustling seaside escape frequented by the rich and famous.
Another favorite destination of Dina, Positano usually sits side-by-side with Capri as a must-visit Italian resort destination. If you can’t get enough of Capri’s Tyrrhenian seaside town, then you’d equally enjoy this charming Amalfi Coast town with its colorful homes, jaw-dropping hiking trails and narrow, cobblestoned streets lined by cafés and people at all times.
HOKKAIDO, JAPAN Rolling hills, ancient forests, excellent skiing and few people makes Hokkaido a must-visit for spiritual escape.

Raja Ampat is dubbed as one of the last virgin paradises on earth. It is hard to reach but rewarding as you get pure, unadulterated beauty and mind-blowing underwater scene, and some of the most immersive luxury experiences. 28
