This floating “piano” stair is a celebration of geometry and
craft. The elliptical stair rises up slowly, tightening at the first turn of the ellipse. The outer curve glides within inches of the wall before twisting once again. Large openings to the family room provide views across the barrel vaulted room and out the floor to ceiling glass wall.

The entire staircase was built on site. Each tread is unique, varying slightly within it’s location along the ellipse. The handrail was carved in place and finished by hand. But for all it’s drama and detail, a simple material palette imbues a quiet elegance to the space.
