A message from the President “Youth is the future of the Nation� – this commonly used statement is well supported with examples from the World's history. Whenever generations have had exceptionally high youth ratio, there have been movements that shook up their systems and left a profound impact on history. India now has around 600 million people younger than 25, which in absolute numbers is an unprecedented demographic condition in the history of Modern India or anywhere in the world. Despite the current four-decade gap between the median age of India's people and that of its government officials, today's young will, in the near future, go on to fill up the roles of decision makers, in all fields. Hence, it becomes highly important for India's young people to realize their power, responsibility and the endless opportunities that await them. Therefore, issues like ethical leadership, governance, cultural disparity & thought disparity between generations remain key challenges towards building a better and a harmonious society. If India's youth is the country's biggest asset, it is our onus to build a responsible generation which enables and empowers every young person to create a plethora of opportunities for themselves, organizations, communities and the society. Chandigarh, being one of India's youngest cities, and a reflection of India's modern and progressive outlook, should be a frontrunner city in leading the change in the country. Today, AIESEC exists as one of the very few, if not the only, organizations to have functioned for almost 65 years in different cultures, with an annually changing leadership at all levels globally. It's the values of ethical leadership and sustainable actions which AIESEC fosters that makes this possible. By virtue of the powerful experiences it has created for more than 1,00,000 students who participate in different programs across the globe every year, AIESEC has defined an inspiring mid-term ambition for 2015 which pushes the organization to engage and develop every young person in the world. AIESEC today seeks to be a high impact organization in the society which wants to create a responsible and entrepreneurial leadership in the world. With 2012, the local committee of AIESEC in Chandigarh completes 24 years of activating leadership in the city. Through the constant support and guidance from all our partners, we have been able to be a consistent student-run, independent, not-for-profit and non-political organization. The dedication of our stakeholders has been encouraging our aspirations to become more relevant in the city, and in turn, in India. The local committee has performed consistently by being one of the leading local committees in terms of delivering quality experiences. In 2012, AIESEC actively engaged up to 6000 students in and around the city, delivering more than 700 Team Member experiences and more than 151 Team Leader experiences, leading to their experiential leadership development. More than 180 internationals came down to Chandigarh to volunteer on various issues such as child rights, illiteracy, environment etc, working with city NGOs. More than 50 internationals worked with corporate firms and schools of the city for a professional internship experience. All in all, more than 230 internationals got the Incredible India experience from the City Beautiful in 2012, while they also contributed to the society and gained cultural and professional experience. Similarly, more than 60 students went to different countries to volunteer abroad. We also facilitated professional internships for over 20 students from the city. The local committee of AIESEC in Chandigarh has always strived to take the AIESEC experience to more places in the region. After successfully starting AIESEC in Lovely Professional University (now AIESEC in Jalandhar) in 2009, the local committee has officially expanded into Dehradun this year. We are also actively operating in Thapar University (Patiala) and are initiating the same in Shimla.

Despite a volume of experiences being delivered, it cannot be ignored that the population engaged by AIESEC is only a fraction of the potential that Chandigarh holds. As we constantly push ourselves towards achieving our 2015 mid-term ambition, and towards becomingthe most relevant student-run organization of the city, there are some important questions that we should regularly reflect on to ensure our actions lead to a brighter future: What all can we do to enable, encourage and equip the youth of the city to change the old way of doing things? How much willing are we to have a progressive outlook to collaborate with each other and challenge the status quo? How can we work together to produce the kind of leadership that India needs? Finding the right answers to these will help us take the platform that AIESEC provides to a larger volume of people, and to a larger number of organizations. Pursuit of these answers will help us develop the change agents in the form of Global Citizens that India and the World needs. On behalf of AIESEC in Chandigarh, I would like to offer my sincere gratitude to all our partners, supporters and alumni for nurturing the local committee to a state where it stands today. Once upon a time AIESEC History AIESEC’s vision of bridging people across borders took root in 1948, when AIESEC was founded in Europe. In this “first year” eightynine exchanges took place, mostly in the form of study tours with the aim of “… promoting friendly relations between members.” In our first twenty years, the mission expanded to include developing the skills of young people. We also grew in impact, with 900% growth in exchanges and expansion from one to six 6 continents! In the 1970s, during the global economic crisis, AIESEC experienced its first drop in exchange. Global business trends brought an increased focus on management. In 1976, after years of focus on internship exchanges, seminars and study tours, global theme programs emerged, engaging members in conferences and activities around pressing global topics.

The transformation process was challenging, leading to temporary global disalignment and a drop in our exchange programmes, but it led the way for rapid growth.

For the first time, we established the idea of team leadership as an AIESEC programme. Alignment brought professionalisation and standardisation, enabling two successive periods of 500% growth. AIESEC beat the exchange record from the 1980s. In the 2010s, responding to the emergence of social networks, AIESEC has grown increasingly inclusive. In 2010, the third 5-year global visioning process led to a 20-year ambition to “engage and develop every young person in the world.” AIESEC, though it maintains rigorous standards for its experiential leadership development programmes, is no longer only for a selected group of youth. This inclusive mindset led to nearly 100,000 leadership development experiences in AIESEC in 20112012. The 2015 goal is 262,000 experiences, plus millions more connected to the AIESEC community. With 1.4 billion young people in the world, our question is: Is this fast enough growth to bring

Every year, a group of individuals sign up to dedicate one year selflessly to lead the local committee, as the Executive Body, and ensure the delivery of quality experiences to all the stakeholders. The Executive Body of AIESEC in Chandigarh for 2012 comprised of 14 diverse individuals hailing from different educational backgrounds. This diversity brought a variety of thought to the team. The Executive Body is the strategy designing and decision making body of the local chapter.

Out of the many stories that the year has churned out, the stories shared with the Executive Body would be the most memorable for me personally. Each and every member on the team has given his/her best throughout the year selflessly, and their unique contribution has helped the team develop in the way that it has. The team has been a perfect example of how a higher purpose pursued with unbound passion can lead to achieving anything at all. I sincerely thank every person on the team for their dedication and commitment, and for living up to the legacy of past leadership that the local committee is known for. Engagement with AIESEC (EwA) Engagement with AIESEC is a new concept that we use to recognise the fact that a student who is connected to AIESEC, but not yet living one of our programmes, can still be impacted by the experience. It reflects our commitment to strengthen AIESEC’s global learning environment and make it more and more inclusive.

GIP Global Internship Programme A Global Internship Programme provides opportunities for young people to gain cross-cultural professional development experience abroad.

Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement. AIESEC gave me the chance to do the same, helped to grow more as an individual and gave me open sky to fly as high as I wanted to. AIESEC has been a life changing experience for me. I got a change to work for multiple teams. Initially i was a part of the social sector which gave foreign students opportunity to come and work in India. The second time was where i discovered the leader in me when i was a part of the recruitment team. AIESEC gave me the reason which most people are unable to find throughout their life. I learnt to Dream On and Dream Big.. AIESEC is a platform where people constantly evolve as individuals and professionals. Every step takes you to greater heights.

By the virtue of being a fortunate AIESECer, I happen to lead a team of 7 members, who take out hours from their everyday schedule and try showing others of their sort and generation, the needed light of the day. As a team, being a part of a portfolio that sends students to various countries and help them work on community development programmes based on women empowerment, human trafficking, narcotics. Recruited in August 2012. Each day it is hard to believe that a person can learn so much in a space of three months. Each day I get to live moments that I do not particularly define as happy or sad because they are more like golden experience. I see myself leading my fellow beings and working with them for a seemingly big purpose ,learn deeper meaning of words like compassion, success, inspiration, motivation, patience, leadership, understanding, love and smile at myself ,thinking,not bad, you are not doing that bad really! Each day is about not knowing and venturing into the unknown, doing things that can totally go wrong and striving to get them just fine, opening myself to individuals who gesture to not only understand me but are my beautiful mentors and leaders who help me develop chronic optimism to deal with forays that await to be undertaken in the days to come.

I always wanted to know a culture that is different from my own, meet interns from all over the world to set up an international network, gain professional knowledge in Human Resources, improve my formal English, learn to be independent and to take responsibility, and the most, experiencing an adventure! Due to the requirements of my university, I was given the appointment as a HR Trainee to acquire the Quality Certification of ISO 9001-2000. Thus, my roles and responsibilities as a HR Trainee were to assist the HR Executive in realizing and maintaining all HR processes according to ISO standards. I gained so many different experiences in India that it is hard to write them all down. So here is the most important one: I remember the smiling faces at the Global Village when I told small kids about stories and about the country where I come from. I’m aware now that I cannot take my life back home for granted. Not everyone is blessed with a good life. But I can make those kids lives a bit better by getting involved in some social projects. My time in inida was not only a great learning experience. Moreover, it was a unique lifetime experience and I would like to thank everyone who put so much effort into finding me a new internship when I came to India and everyone who made my stay just AWESOME!

An amazing experience which gave me a lot to think about. Got a chance to represent my country in one of the most amazing conferences BRIC an alliance between Brazil, Russia, India and China. My contribution was to make sure I spread every bit of my culture in Russia. I was working on the project “Sunshine” in Russia where I was supposed to work with children and linguistic centers. I had to spread awareness about our country and teach English. I also got an opportunity to teach English to entrepreneurs which was a challenging task but I learnt a lot from it. AIESEC Internships is like a workshop which helps you enhance your personality. The word I would like to use for this internship is “LEGENDARY”. My decision to go for this internships was on of the best I ever made. The whole experience is very difficult to sum up in a few works. Forget yourself and go for an internship to find a new you.

Youth Empowerment

Associate Membership

Youth Empowerment is a development programme which inculcates leadership skills to students in high school by empowering the young with knowledge and an enhanced perspective through various sessions.

Associate Membership initiative provides young people who are intrigued about AIESEC and its operations, a chance to work with our partners and some of our initiatives without having to devote a lot of time.

Youth Empowerment is an initiative by AIESEC Global to inculcate leadership skills among the youth. AIESEC wasnts to shape the youth to be Global Leaders, to instigate their thinking process, to open them to different opportunities and prepare them to face real life competition. Leadership ideas for the youth students help in developing their confidence and making them assertive. As self awareness is the key to development, the leadership activities for the youth help them in shaping up their careers. It makes them put knowledge into action and enables them to realize their potential and capabilities. No. of YE Sessions : 45 Student Outreach : 4500 No. of school and colleges (tri-city) : 25

Associate Membership is one of the pioneering projects of AIESEC in Chandigarh in the network which has made it possible for the organization to give a demo AIESEC experience more than its internal capacity of HR. This project was started in 2011 and with a major growth this year it included an entire gamut of activities ranging from volunteering at a NGO, to facilitating and conducting event with partner organization of AIESEC in Chandigarh (Both NGO and Corporate) this project has impacted lives of many individuals in the city and has made AIESEC relevant in the year 2012. Expansions The global vision of youth is inconsistent. In some places, we're "disengaged" in others, we're the strongest force for change. Young people might be difficult to understand, but AIESEC members know what we wish for the youth of the world: more access to experiences like the ones we live. This inclusive ambition constantly challenges us to grow. Our expansions initiative is one that makes AIESEC accessible to new cities and countries. The local committee of AIESEC in Chandigarh has always strived to take the AIESEC experience to more places in the region. AIESEC in Dehradun The beautiful city of Dehradun was recently recognized as the official expansion of AIESEC in India. Currently driven by a strong membership of over 50 students, it has developed and initiated all critical functions of an entity. They take immense pride in providing the highest quality experiences in both incoming and outgoing exchange. With strong clientele ranging from the Ecole Global School to UPES Dehradun, this entity is on its way to becoming a strong sustainable Local Chapter in 2013.

AIESEC in Thapar University, Patiala Initiated in 2011, this expansion initiative of AIESEC in Chandigarh has truly lived up to its reputation thus far. It is recognized in the country for a strong global mindset and smart membership. It has been able to build a strong brand in the region with a consolidated outgoing exchange programme. The institution's support to take AIESEC School of Languages forward has also been commendable.


Events Chandigarh Freeze With the aim of making the world a hopeful place, an exemplary feat was achieved by a strong numbered group of about 200 people of 18-23 age group ‘PAUSED’ in Sector 17 Plaza, who intended to create an awareness about the noticed yet neglected section of the society - the under privileged children. Kiran - A Ray of Hope Activities like global village, nature walk and art and crafts were conducted for the under privileged and talented children who were adopted by corporates, educational institutions and performing arts academies giving a fillip to their hidden talents

One Day without Shoes Inspired by the International Campaign,AIESEC Chandigarh along with 150 volunteers went barefoot at Sector 17 to spread awarenes about the importance of shoes. AIESEC then donated over 600 pairs of shoes to the needy.

Balakalakaar Balakalakaar targets families, corporate houses, schools, colleges and the Chandigarh youth in general. Through this campaign we intend to bring underprivileged children from tricity on a common platform wherein they are provided an opportunity to explore and showcase their creativity through art expression. In 2012 BKK impacted 2500 lives. Date - 14th July 2012 | Venue - Hallmark School, Panchkula


World Cuisine Festival 40 interns around the globe displayed a plethora of international cuisines, hence showcasing their culture and religions. Great anticipation was seen throughout the radio and online social media promotions and hence the expectations from the event were very high. Students of Hallmark Public School and voluntary participants entertained a footfall of about 3000 people with their amazing dance and music performance. Smokilling The focus of worldwide consumer education programs has been on the effects of tobacco use. In order to highlight the leading cause of preventable death worldwide, these programs have largely been fear-based and designed to convince young people to stop cigarette smoking. Thus as a student-led movement, we have the advantages of speaking the language of our target audience The event was followed by a rock concert by the band Indian Ocean Date - 19th April 2012 | Venue - Thapar Univ. Patiala .

Dehradun Marathon AIESEC in Dehradun aimed at bringing together people from all walk of life, generating awareness among them, awakening them to the importance of environment by putting our best foot forward to do our ‘bit’ towards planet Earth. The Marathon was an attempt to reconnect the citizens of Dehradun for a green present and future. Over 200 people participated. Date - 29th April 2012 | Venue - Gandhi Park, Dehradun .

Light the Night AIESEC Chandigarh engaged the youth at the PECfest in lighting numerous paper lanterns, to promote the Idea of Green Diwaliwherein a safer employment for children working in the extremely hazardous environments of crackers' factories . Over a 1000 people were impacted through active participation in the event which has now generated much curiosity about the social cause. Date - 12th November 2012 | Venue - PEC, Chandigarh
