Section A | Opening Note

Popularized by US President Harry Truman, the phrase is based on the metaphorical expression passing the buck, that came to mean ‗passing blame‘, or absolving oneself of responsibility or concern by denying authority or jurisdiction over a given matter… and don‘t we witness this phenomenon all around us - in our families ,organizations , political systems etc. ,where people are quick to pass the buck to others when things go wrong. AIESEC leaders in the past have envisioned great things and taken this organization to glorious heights in many aspects, but some dreams still remain distant and year after year we feel that we have not been able to accomplish what we envisioned. With some despair for things not done, another inning starts and we forget to account for what remained unaccomplished and Why! I strongly feel that this has to come to an end somewhere because AIESEC deserves to rise higher and it‘s high time we do not just chase our dreams but overtake them. So, the Buck Stops here! This would mean different things: For AIESEC Chandigarh—I will not tell you what you are suppose to do or why; only because I believe we know that. I am here to tell you how you are suppose to do it. The first step is—Start Living AIESEC. Let‘s not pass on things or responsibilities to the following years or the following Leaders, let‘s get done with things and give a new path for new experiences, innovations and ideas of our future. For members of AIESEC Chandigarh—One reason why all of us joined AIESEC was either Good Experience or Learning but, let me tell you, you are the master of your fate. Let‘s take full responsibility of our work and Experience because that is the only way to grow. For Me—I take the ultimate responsibility of everything I commit to this Local Committee and promise that The Buck will stop here in 2012!

Good Luck! Siddharth Bali Applicant for Local Committee President 2012-13 AIESEC Chandigarh

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh 2. Briefly describe your key achievements and failures in AIESEC in the past. Also mention your learnings from your failures and how they have affected your AIESEC journey. (Mention a max of three each) Self evaluation makes me over critical for myself but, also make me reflect how much AIESEC has given to me. There has been good learning in AIESEC which I have added to my list and moved ahead. These experiences always add up and help in giving different perspectives in a completely new situation practically in life. So it is best to give your best short, learn from it and aim for something big. Some of my experiences which have satisfied my expectations and produced decent results are: 1. Team Leader in OGX 2009: AIESEC Chandigarh gave me a beautiful experience of being a Team Leader in OGX 2009, wherein I was not only suppose to lead my classmates (which is really hard, trust me) but, also I was responsible for exploring a completely new market. This led to whole new portfolio of Outbound in AIESEC Chandigarh‘s OGX. It is one of those times in life which makes you feel bigger and better about yourself. 2. Creating the market for OGX and expanding AIESEC: Year 2010 in AIESEC started with a big bang for me. Being a part of the ‘Dream Team‘ was an achievement in itself. 2010 also gave me the opportunity to lead my home portfolio OGX. I was told Chandigarh does not have OGX market, I not only created two markets in Chandigarh (Inbound and Outbound) but also, went out and created entities for sustainable growth of AIESEC Chandigarh. 3. Bringing New projects in TM: AIESEC Chandigarh in 2011 again gave me the responsibility of handling the portfolio we were best at. With strong base came stronger vision for the portfolio and TM of AIESEC Chandigarh kick started new projects, like Associate Membership (to meet AIESEC 2015 vision) and Alumni Relations (handling Life Long Connection of AIESEC experience). I met a lot of people in AIESEC. I even encountered myself. The areas I could have done better in AIESEC are: 1. Targets not completely achieved as Vice President 2010: We as a team were motivated and hardworking and we did put in our best foot forward, but somehow we couldn‘t deliver what I promised. The little satisfaction that I derive from this situation is that I am left a huge pipeline to my successor in form of entities. I have seen highs and lows in my term, there was a time when OGX was number 1 nationally for two consecutively, but somehow we couldn‘t sustain that position. 2. Yet to avail the International platform of AIESEC: I couldn‘t go for AIESEC internship because of my growing responsibilities in AIESEC and my academic cycle. But, sooner or later I will definitely go for exchange. (When are you planning to go?)

4. Describe the experience of being a part of the Executive Body of AIESEC Chandigarh. How do you think other members on the team would evaluate your contribution to the team & LCs organizational direction? Being on the Executive Body of AIESEC Chandigarh has been a very intense, challenging and yet a very cherishable experience for me. A few things which contributed the most to this experience have been my team and our team leader. My Team – The Dream Team| The Fellowship I have been lucky to be part of two unmatched teams. Both the teams were very different yet alike. They have been my critics; they have challenged me to the core and thus have been my strength in this City Beautiful. Both the teams have been like a ‗Jigsaw puzzle‘ where each one of us has completed the other. We have cried together, shared, smiled, laughed, celebrated, fought, hugged, trusted each other and have shared some of those ecstatic moments which I shall cherish for life. Both the teams have always respected my view points and have respected my contribution in the LC. Our Team Leader – The LCP Our team leader has been what we call the ―backbone‖ of our team. If there was anyone on the team who would constantly support you, challenge you or push you to do more and help you realize the bigger picture it was this one guy who did it absolutely amazingly well. I would want to thank both of them for giving me my space and helping me improve each day.

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh 5. What are your three basic Learnings/Values for life, which you have derived through your AIESEC experience? (Answer objectively) There is one reason we share- to join AIESEC is to Learn. AIESEC is the only organization I have come across where people appreciate you and motivate you more when you make mistakes because we all know AIESEC is the platform where we do things practically. This is the beauty of this organization. AIESEC values are indeed very hard to live by each and every day, which I have lived (I can safely say that) but, there are few things I would want to share, such as: 

Create Magic: It always seems impossible until it‘s done. Self Belief is the solution to a lot of problems in the world. ‗Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure‘. All we need to do is channelize our energies and create magic.

Be a Perfectionist: One of the AIESEC values also teaches you to ‘Strive for Excellence‘, AIESEC taught me how important it is to remain focused and complete your task with perfection. To be a perfectionist, one has to be extremely passionate about his work. It‘s here in AIESEC where I realized what I am good at and what I am passionate about.

Love what you do: With Self Belief and Passion, one will always do what he loves and give his soul to it. Pride makes us do things well. But it is love that makes us do them to perfection.

With these learning I am sure I made the right decision to apply for the post of LCP.

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. ~The Road Not Taken

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh

Section D | Motivation 1. Why did you decide to run for LCP of AIESEC Chandigarh? What are the qualities required for this role & what makes you best suited for this role? Most of us settle in, and settle for what we have. Rather than pursue, we accept. We need to declare war on passivity. Hush the inner voice that insists you‘re over the hill, past your prime, unworthy of attaining those dreams. Disbelief is now the enemy, as is the notion of settling. Get hungry. Get fired up. Find your backbone, and your wings. These were some thoughts and feelings I had when I decided to apply for LCP. It wasn‘t just the Willpower that made me apply: There is something destined for all of us and we know at some point of our lives we have to do it, and this decision was destined for me. Hence, I knew I had to apply and take the responsibility of this LC onto my shoulders. Not only because I owe a lot to this LC but also as a responsible and ideal AIESECer, it's my responsibility to give beautiful experiences across City Beautiful. I want to get involved in something that I really care for and passionate about -- that is, I want to make AIESEC Chandigarh as great as it can possibly be, not because I will learn a lot, but just because it can be done. What is required and I have:-

Commitment: I am ready to commit 1 year of my life for the betterment of this LC.

Care: I care for the LC and for everyone who is directly or indirectly associated with it.

Connection: I aim to connect those who will benefit and enrich each others‘ lives in equal measure.

Communication: I communicate candidly. Tell people what they should hear rather than what they want to hear.

Expand Capacity: I aim to expand people‘s capacity to help them give and get more from their own lives.

I enjoy AIESEC: It is extremely important to enjoy what you do. In AIESEC, after spending a decent amount of time, one loses his interest in the work or the organization easily. But, I still enjoy AIESEC and its people, after spending more than two and a half years. I still sometimes feel like a new recruit. I am aligned to the vision of AIESEC.

I have Organizational Experience: To be a Great Leader, you need to be a good follower. Every organization chooses someone who has a lot of experience in that particular organization, to be able to lead it from the front. I was recruited in Feb 2009 and have been on the Executive Board of AIESEC Chandigarh for two consecutive years, which has given me an opportunity to see the LC growing, very closely. I understand the trends and needs of this Local Committee. I also have the experience of working in the 2 focus areas of AIESEC--- TM and OGX, that too on the EB. And I believe I have it in me and I am ready to be the next face of AIESEC Chandigarh

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh 2. Please describe your career progress to date and your future and long-term career goals. How do you expect an LCP term to help you achieve these goals and why now?

Career Goals

Personal Goals

Short Term:

Short Term:

Complete my Graduation by July 2011 and address myself as Er. Siddharth Bali

Have an international experience through AIESEC. Be the LCP of AIESEC Chandigarh. Be financially independent.

Long term:

Long term:

Work in Strategies and Operation Consultancy

Travel around the World Get Married and be happy ever after. 

Benefits of an LCP Term One of the biggest things that AIESEC has given me till now, is a channel to utilise my passion in something constructive, and to build upon it. The high of feeling this way is incomparable and forces me to bring out the best that I have. This has happened in different roles. As an LCP, I obviously expect this to grow to new heights. Aman Jain (PAI 2010) told me that the only powerful role in AIESEC is that of the LCP only. The LCP experience is the ultimate leadership experience that you can get, at 22 years of age. It teaches you how to have trust and faith in people, so much so that people often surprise you, and surpass your own ambitions for them. In my long term goal for my life, I expect to be leading a core group of people, each of whom would be independently managing the undertakings. The LCP experience would be my first taste of such an experience and I want to get the maximum out of it. I want to take this powerful role. Why Now I‘ve spent a long time in the organisation, and the only natural step up I see from here is to be LCP. If I don‘t make it to the LCP position, then this is the end of the road for me in AIESEC, and I would be moving on for an internship and would get started with my career. This is the only opportunity that I have to be LCP. Further reasons for applying have been given in the previous question.

3. Highlight your time commitment throughout the whole of next year (till Dec 2012; Academic or otherwise). Ideally, how much time should an LCP give to his role? I feel so good that my academic cycle is supporting me to apply for this role. I am currently in my last academic semester of my graduation, January onwards I have to do a local internship for 6 months which will I can help myself easily. In short I will be 24X7 available for this Local Chapter next year. According to me, AIESEC is no more a volunteer organization for the EB and specifically for the LCP. LCP term demands mental space, physical time commitment and sacrifices for the LC in all 365 days. I am up for giving 1 more year of my life to AIESEC Chandigarh.

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh 4. What is your vision for AIESEC in Chandigarh for the year ahead? What legacy would you want to leave behind? Vision is the lifeblood of any organization. It is what keeps it moving forward. It provides meaning to the day-to-day challenges and setbacks that make up the rumble and tumble of real life. Vision is like compass, which shows direction to the organization. AIESEC Chandigarh has a vision for 2015 and I would want to stick to it for 2012 so that the action steps are accordingly.

―First choice organization for delivering high volume of excellent stakeholder experiences through physical and virtual platform around the world. We are known for engaging and delivering socially responsible, culturally sensitive & entrepreneurial leaders around the world who create a cross generational impact on the society.‖ I want to leave the legacy where people know why their efforts matter. They are able to connect their actions to a larger story. I wish to leave the legacy of Great Leadership. Members of AIESEC Chandigarh should know what it is we are trying to build—and why it matters. It is about painting a picture of a better future. I wish to leave a legacy where people enjoy AIESEC. It is about living AIESEC and not just merely being part of it. THE BUCK IS NOT PASSED.

5. What are your three most substantial personal accomplishments (non-AIESEC), and why do you view them as such? Provide a candid assessment of your strengths and weaknesses. Most sustainable accomplishments are:-

Leadership Roles—I have been a proactive student throughout my life and taking responsibilities comes naturally to me. I have been Head Boy of the school, Organizing team Leader for various events for Rotary Club and CU.

Working in the Social, Corporate and Glamour business—Working at the NGO (with my maternal Uncle) call centre and doing modelling shows in the past have really added well to my knowledge and gave me a lot of perspectives about life, humans and world.

Strengths: 

Perfectionist : It‘s not good enough anymore to be ‗pretty good‘ at everything. You have to be the most of something: the most elegant, the most colourful, the most responsive, the most accessible. I am ‗Most‘ in enjoying the moment and living in the past, which sorts out a lot of things for me.

Neoteny : Neoteny is the retention of childlike attributes in adulthood. When we are young, we learn, we socialize, we play, we experiment, we are curious, we feel wonder, we feel joy, we change, we grow, we imagine, we hope. Neoteny guides me beyond the rigid frameworks and opinionated world created by adults.

Good Social Skills: The world is about being comfortable where you are and making people feel comfortable, and that‘s what social skills are. What‘s important is to be kind, and be gracious and do it in ways that make people want to do that for someone else. This helps me connect to everyone and leave a positive impression on them.

Being Focused, Dependable, Genuine, Disciplined and Flexible are some of my Strengths that help me survive in the World.

Weaknesses: 

I have a tendency to be self-critical and to under-estimate myself; also because I always have a step by step plan to achieve things.

I have a tendency of taking responsibilities more than I am suppose to handle, in the process of trying to complete the tasks I end up losing a lot of energy, time and mental capacity.

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh I aim to capitalize on my strengths in any situation and when my weaknesses affect my behavior, I try to modify them, by trying to understand the situation better, using my competencies and not let my weaknesses hamper my decision/action. I think I can say that the biggest strength I have is that I am aware of my shortcomings !

6. What is your understanding of the term leadership? Describe your leadership style? Explain how your style will be suitable for AIESEC Chandigarh in its current state. I personally feel word Leadership has various definitions and interpretations, varying from person to person. In Wikipedia Leadership has been described as the ―process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task" AIESEC helped me define my understanding of Leadership in the following words:‘Leadership

is the capability to influence situations through people, bettering both in the process.’ I feel this definition is apt for my Leadership style and especially for AIESEC. AIESEC is all about learning and people. AIESEC Chandigarh needs a leader who can understand the people more than anything else. A leader, who has significant understanding of people, will automatically be somebody who is compassionate, empathetic, and will be able to envision a better future for not only the organization but individuals and thus align them well for the ultimate goal – learning and a sense of achievement to carry forth. AIESEC Chandigarh needs people who can provide courage and guidance to people to take their shot to do something they never imagined themselves capable of.

2. Analyze the trends of the past three years (including 2011) of AIESEC Chandigarh's strategic direction (include performance & culture). How do you see the organization direction of AIESEC Chandigarh shaping up in the coming two years?

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh Year 2012 & 2013:“I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” Year 2012 for AIESEC Chandigarh, or any other LC for that matter, is considered to be the epitome of activity and the first step to shape up AIESEC 2015 and beyond in the most evolutionary manner, will be an year in which AIESEC Chandigarh will not only be setting examples in the global network but also be delivering the most challenging and electrifying experiences at all levels of hierarchy in the LC. I have a vision for my LC, which has already started making me feel electrified and powerful. It is about living AIESEC and not just merely being part of it. 2012 will not pass the Buck else, it will be hard for 2013 & 2014 to achieve 2015 target. 2013 will have to sustain the evolution and create a strong platform for 2014 to take a huge leap.

3. What should be the Focus Areas of AIESEC Chandigarh for 2012-2013 and how will you implement them? 2011 has given a lot of directions to us in terms of what should happen and when. But, to make it sustainable 2012 needs to focus and answer only on following 3 questions for AIESEC Chandigarh. These 3 circles are from Hedgehog Concept.

Exchange

We are Passionate about : Impact || Experiences || Leadership || Creating change || Exchange We can be best in the World : Internally

Externally

Organizational Structure to boost Capacity building. Short term Leadership roles and Entities play major role here.

Client Relation Management

Adding Value to all the Projects(ICX and OGX) by Research to understand the needs of the city and redefining the measure of success of the projects. This also includes International Relations and giving great experiences to Interns & EPs.

Branding our Experiences and projects in the Corporate and Student Sectors, through increasing our stakeholders—Members and clients. Also by changing the Parental perception about AIESEC will add on. We also have to increase the association with external.

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh Strong International Relations is must for AIESEC Chandigarh right now. This includes regular incoming/outgoing CEEDs and fixed budget for investing in IR. We also need to empower our EPs to be able to carry the brand name of AIESEC Chandigarh.

Engaging maximum number of students in AIESEC through Exchange or Experential Leadership Development Programme or Associate Membership, to grow holistically.

What drives our Economic Engine 

Exchange (Growth in GIP ICX, GCDP and GIP OGX)

Funds “Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.”

4. List down action steps for AIESEC Chandigarh in 2012, with respect to the six elements of the National Long Term Direction, laid down at NSC 2011.

‘The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible‘ 

Expanding AIESEC Network in Chandigarh: There are 10 ways to expand. 1. Open another location 2. Offer your business as a franchise for AIESEC both mean the same, this means we really have to concentrate on our Entities and equip them to meet the requirements to reach the ideal state. 3. License your product, AIESEC Nationally is trying to get there. 4. Form an alliance, what it means in AIESEC is to collaborate and grow (explained in the last point of the answer) we can do this externally as well as internally. 5. Diversify we really need to offer diverse products and do product packaging customized. 6. Target other markets this is something we have started and approaching market we never worked before.7. Win a government contract, this is the focus area and we will work with Government directly or indirectly in 2012.8. Merge with or acquire other business (somewhat same as the 4th point) 9. Expand Globally for AIESEC this means establishing strong IR. 10. Expand to the internet this is very self-explanatory. (Refer to Q.7 of Section E)

Financial Sustainability driving Growth: AIESEC Chandigarh is a financially healthy LC, this because of the holistic growth in all the portfolios. Financial Sustainability is extremely important for any organization to grow, it‘s like backbone of the organization. The major financial strain of all LCs across AIESEC India is GCDP ICX. In AIESEC Chandigarh, GCDP ICX has a good financial models for the clients, it has been always been break-even in this case. Though a lot of money has been pending with some clients of GCDP, which shall be tracked as soon as possible. Improving the number of Exchanges in GIP ICX, GCDP and GIP. Making profit from the 2 events mentioned in Q. 10 of this section. Also to boost it MC is coming up with new financial model for every Program which will serve the purpose. (Refer to Finance in Section G)

Collaborations across Sectors: Collaborations is the next big thing in AIESEC. It is always better to join hands and grow together. Instead of doing our own events, AIESEC Chandigarh shall have external partners to deliver events and have bigger and better Impact. These External partners can be Corporates, Event Management Companies, NGOs or College Fests. Formalizing partnerships by signing MOUs give a lot of clarity in terms of delivery, this will be taken care by TL Research and Development ( Refer to Q.6 section F)

Brand and Information Management: For Branding it is important for us to promote Experiences of Members, Clients, Parents, Interns and EPs in such a way that words—Leadership and International become synonyms of AIESEC. Information Management (IM) starts with right Transition and regular communication. Both the Projects involve Talent Management portfolio and should be the bottom-line of it. (Refer to CIM in Section G)

Legalization: Since AIESEC India holds the authority to deal the legal status of all Indian L.Cs, the best we can contribute is by information management and documenting all processes.

Program Delivery Efficiency: There are 4 Programs that we offer GIP, GCDP, TLP and TMP. This is the basic point which AIESEC Chandigarh needs to focus on. This will be done by regular and strict reviews of the Project Manager, by Feedbacks of the Members, Clients, Interns and EPs. Also, TL Research and Development shall contribute a lot here. (Refer to Q.14 of Section E)

5. What is your vision statement for AIESEC Chandigarh from 2012-2015, keeping in mind the BHAG, and the direction the organization is headed towards, at the international, national as well as local level.

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh Also, come up with a stand that the Local Committee will adopt for the year 2012 in particular, and explain it. Vision is the lifeblood of any organization. It is what keeps it moving forward. It provides meaning to the day-to-day challenges and setbacks that make up the rumble and tumble of real life. My vision for AIESEC Chandigarh for 20122015 will be

“First choice organization for delivering high volume of excellent stakeholder experiences through physical and virtual platform around the world. We are known for engaging and delivering socially responsible, culturally sensitive & entrepreneurial leaders around the world who create a cross generational impact on the society.” My stand for AIESEC Chandigarh will be my theme, -- “The Buck Stops Here!” (For explanation please refer to Section A.) 6. Propose the organizational structure that you plan to follow for the next year including the second level management, non-exchange roles & LC Entities.

Realizations. (Quarter 4 Review)

Realizations.

*GCDP raises are Adhoc. *Realizations for GIP (Tourism, Akshar and TN/ET) and GCDP ( Worldview and Client customized realizations) can happen throughout the year. GIP (ASL) and OGX will have to follow strict deadlines. ICX has to be self sustainable and financially stable; accommodation should be arranged by the client in every portfolio. *BKK will be done together in all the entities including Chandigarh to help BD and CIM. Y2B will be the Recruitment event. Both the Entities should do events with their Clients with the help of Research and Development Manager. *Regular training seminars and Review will be done by VP Expansion, LCC and Expansion Managers, to make sure everything is on track. *LCC Dehradun will be in direct touch with the LCP post becoming official expansion.

8. What role does AIESEC Chandigarh play in the national association presently? How should this role evolve in 2012? AIESEC Chandigarh has emerged in the past few years as one of the leading and most sustainably growing Local Committees in the National Association .Today, AIESEC Chandigarh is like one of a role model Local Committee. AIESEC Chandigarh has been the pioneering LC in implementing and strategizing new innovative ideas which can be followed nationally. AIESEC Chandigarh has played a very crucial role in the national association in terms of thought. The national association has benefited from our BCPs of last year in 2011. National Association also learns how to welcome every change and adapt to it. Major role that AIESEC Chandigarh will play in 2012, in National Association will be that of ‘Implementation‘. Keeping in mind the vision 2015 and the immediate action steps to it, AIESEC Chandigarh has to implement and give a completely new direction to national association. AIESEC Chandigarh will be innovative and sharp in its approach and won‘t Pass the Buck.

11. Critically analyse the culture of AIESEC in Chandigarh. What aspects of the current culture will you retain and what aspects will you change in the coming year? How do you plan to do the same? Culture for me is the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an in organization. I have seen the LC culture change variably since I joined AIESEC. There are always things that go for the LC, and things that don‘t quite contribute positively to the LC culture. This year, AIESEC in Chandigarh has seen a major positive cultural especially post August recruitment. Though less number of new recruits attended NLDS and experienced AIESEC at a bigger level but, still has managed to instill a sense of commitment in many members which is visible. Aspects I would want to retain

Aspects I would want to emphasize on

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh 12.

Describe the role a VP will play in the LC (around performance & attitude) in 2012.

After being a Vice President myself for two consecutive years I am sure of the role of a VP and EB. In 2012 following will be the roles a VP will have to play:-

The EB exists as a device to gain understanding about important issues facing the LC and give right direction to the LC.

Each VP has the ability to argue and debate in search of understanding, not from the egoistic need to win a point or protect their interests.

Each VP will retain the respect of every members of the LC, without expectation.

EB is made of VPs who come from a range of perspectives but, each VP needs to have deep knowledge about some aspects of the LC and/or the environment in which they operate.

EB is a standing body, not an adhoc committee assembled for a specific project. So, VPs need to be strong as an individuals and a team as well.

EB will have to meet once a week for official meetings and once in their respective Task Force meet. Both the meetings will be called by the LCP.

VP will be responsible and accountable for his/her performance and department.

VP also has to be self-motivated throughout the year.

Does not pass the Buck!

13. What immediate change/evolution is required in the LC‘s Communication Strategy, Organizational Structure, Rewards and Recognition, Information Management and Functional Management, in order to equip ourselves for approaching 2015? Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh 14. What is your understanding & link between AIESEC 2015, the BHAG, the three wheels, and the Programs? How will you effectively implement the four ELD Programmemes, keeping in mind the LC‘s realities?

BHAG of 2015-- Engage and develop every young person in the world

Our Why: First Choice Partner, Positive Impact&Global Youth Voice (2015wheels

Our What: Delivering high volume of AIESEC Programs (GCDP, GIP, TMP & TLP) and also to our clients.

Our How: Taking care of Culture, Performance and Delivery management.

I feel AIESEC Chandigarh is in a right zone to be able to deliver and implement the four ELD (Experiential Leadership Development) Programs i.e. TMP, TLP, GIP and GCDP. It is only about giving experiences. 4 programs are like 4 products that AIESEC will offer and any individual can chose which AIESEC product he/she wants to avail. AIESEC Chandigarh all we need to do: -

Offer the right Program to the right person.

Train that person to make best use of the Program.

Review his/her growth in that Program by the performance.

Offer the next right stage to him/her.

―The future belongs to those who see possibilities before they become obvious‖

How will you ensure Delivery will be a part of the basic Exchange process? Also, mention any new initiatives around Delivery. The strategies which will be implemented next year to increase the ‗Quality Consciousness‘ in the LC are as follows:  

 

  

Tracking Realizations: It is very important to track our work. For good delivery system, it is very important to track each and every realization. Quality systems: We need t get one and work very closely with an accommodation partner in Chandigarh so that we can implement a new quality system which will be put in place the coming year. It will solve the biggest problem related to the international interns, which is accommodation. Involving EPs in LC forums: This increases the opportunities for both AIESECers & EPs to understand & connect with each other. Having CEEDS & Involving Interns in L.C Operations: A lot depends on activities of international LCs when it comes to exchange. Sending CEEDs abroad enables us to make an international influence. Involving interns in LC operations increases the LC’s productivity and gives the interns a more enriching experience. Social occasions with interns: Promotes mutual bonding and understanding. Having stakeholder meets: It will increase our understanding of external needs and help us customize our product. It also leads to better expectation settings with our stake holders. Survey & Feedback system: They can be done online and physically. These will give us sufficient information and understanding for improving our services & innovating.

3. Mention the major reasons for the imbalance in OGX and ICX. How do you plan to bridge the gap and also grow ICX at the same time? There are various reasons for the imbalance in OGX and ICX such as:-

Difference between the number of VP ICX and OGX we have had, 2009 had 4 VP ICX and 1 VP OGX; 2010 had 5 VP ICX and 2 VP OGX.

AIESEC India wanted to have 100% growth in terms of number of exchanges and ICX is the easy way to do that so, OGX never was a focus area. It is past 1 year that OGX has gained attention.

Chandigarh youth is also not very culturally sound and open to explore new countries except USA, UK and Canada. Also, the college cycles play a vital role in the hindrance of OGXs‘ growth.

ICX can be done throughout the year but, OGX has fixed cycle.

Investments on ICX are way too much then OGX.

Plan to bridge the gap and also grow ICX at the same time:- 2011 had 2 VP OGX for the city, LCCs and their teams handling OGX, we should follow the same structure in 2012. 

We just have to adhere to the time lines of OGX to witness exponential growth.

 Through EPIC, we should empower our EPs and they should be AIESEC Chandigarh‘s Ambassadors for promoting ICX.

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh 4. Analyze the underutilization of OGX in the last 2 years with respect to potential market and give strategies to increase the same. Also mention what role Entities will play in this.

To understand this issue we need to know the past— 

In 2008 we did 28 exchanges and all were from Chandigarh but, we expanded in LPU.

In 2009 we did 82 exchanges out of which more than half was done by LPU and Chandigarh market wasn‘t focused.

In 2010 we did 88 Exchanges majorly from Chandigarh and focus again was on creating OGX entities.

Strategies I would suggest here would be:-

We must follow the same OGX structure in 2012.

College and University partnerships should be the protocol to do OGX.

Strong Exchange Participant Induction Conferences shall help.

Most importantly— Raise on time, Match on time and Realize on time.

Role of Entities:-

The major reason of creating Entities was boosting OGX as all the entities were started from a college or university based.

Ideal way to grow is through OGX, where all members of an LC have been on exchange. This will give them a strong membership and they will be living AIESEC in true sense, I see Dehradun and Thapar moving in the right direction.

Entities will definitely play a role in terms of number but, more importantly for their growth it is important.

So, over all we really haven‘t focused on Chandigarh market for OGX in past 2 years. I consider 2011 to be a real landmark year in the history of OGX for Chandigarh‘s market.

5.

Describe the experience of a member in an Exchange Team.

Team Leader - A young person gains access to AIESEC‘s value-based platform, and he or she experiences:    

A practical team leader or executive leadership body experience Personal and professional development Practical hard and soft skills development Activities which develop an entrepreneurial and responsible attitude towards being a better leader

TLP participants can have different types of team-based leadership experiences such as leading a team or acting as a part of the executive leadership body of an entity. Team    

Member - A young person gains access to AIESEC‘s value-based platform, and he or she experiences: A practical team experience Practical hard and soft skills development Access to a global network An entrepreneurial and responsible attitude towards being a better leader

TMP participants can have different types of practical team experiences, such being a part of a project team, a functional team, the organizing committee of an event, or an executive team of a an entity.

Efficient Trainee Induction & management program. This is a challenge since the interns keep coming throughout the year and then too get busy to interact. iv.

OGX :

 Through CEEDs, partnerships & X+L, doing reverse matching. It‘s relatively more efficient.      

Strengthening EP induction through AIESEC engagement programs. Delivering through University partnerships, which will increase the program‘s credibility. Investing on IR to form international pool for Indian GIP EP takers. Elaborate process of selecting EPs to be raised. Contacting AIESEC Alumni for exchange. Section G | Non-Exchange External Relations

1. Critically analyze the External Relations portfolio this year & list down the roles & responsibilities of VP ER in 2012.

"Nonprofits have to recognize that they're businesses, not just causes. There's a way to combine the very best of the not-for-profit, philanthropic world with the very best of the for-profit, enterprising world. This hybrid is the wave of the future for both profit and non-profit companies." From "Genius At Work" - an interview with Bill Strickland, CEO of the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild and the Bidwell Training Center Inc. AIESEC Chandigarh got a sustainable support from the External Relations portfolio this year in the following aspects:    

Co-Branding- With a good synergy with CIM department ER was able to collaborate with the external for the events like Walk for the Girl Child and PEC Fest. This is the ideal way to move forward and we will build on this. Innovations- With a good understanding of the organization ER has been very innovative in terms of product packaging especially selling GBMs, OGX seminars etc. Board of Advisor (BoA) Involvement— This year BoA involvement has not been very tangible but, BoA has always been a support. CRM—2011 ER has retained all the clients of 2010 and has added new. We have delivered everything that we promised to all the clients.

Areas to emphasize on in 2012: 

   

New Business Opportunities, as in we really can innovate on our Product packaging and offer customized products for example few things will surely happen—Selling OGX seminars as LEAD(Lead Engage Activate and Develop) sessions and AIESEC Beta, Co-Branding, Selling Sessions at GBMs and LCongs, Space in the External Newsletters and much more. Collaborating with external events with the help of Research and Development Manager. Vmax where V=Value, it is always helpful to over deliver, this is exactly what 2012 will do. Having a Sales Culture, where there is a standardized Appointment package that every member of AIESEC Chandigarh will carry that will be standardized by VP CIM and ER. This again is a sellable product. Manager R&D ER—Research and innovating/customizing new products that AIESEC can sell also sustaining the partnerships

Financial Management

1.

Describe your understanding of the role of Vice-President Finance in the LC.

Following are the job roles of Vice President Finance.

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh 2. Define a financially sustainable LC. How do you envision AIESEC Chandigarh in 2012 with respect to financial sustainability? A financially sustainable LC should meet the following criteria:      

Having sufficient reserves (Fixed Deposits) to cater to any, if needed, future needs. Resource generation through efficient ER funding. The revenue generated through all OGX and GIP ICX exchanges should be able to sustain the GCDP ICX exchanges and still the money must be left in the Bank. GCDP exchanges should focus on direct efforts towards sustaining itself All events well planned should be profit earning More Inkind support from our stakeholders to make our day to day functioning more cost effective.

In 2012 AIESEC Chandigarh will follow the ideal Investment structure:    

Using Exchange money for sustaining exchanges. Well planned events and all entities will do together for better ER raising. 2% of each OGX and GIP ICX shall go in the Bank Balance for sure. ER will sell GCDP ICX projects by partnering with existing clients for ATG Certificate.

3. Analyse the investments made this year and mention the major investments that you shall be focussing upon for next year. Also, mention any areas for cost cutting and how [Considering high volume of traineeship investment through GCDP and trainee house management]? ―Literature was formerly an art and finance a trade; today it is the reverse ‖ Good Investment

Avoidable Investment

ICX Investment has lead to good experiences.

Extra investment on ICX.

LC Administration

Focus Area of Investments for 2012: 

International Relations for Exchange (CEED. X+L, etc.).

Marketing.

Delivery

Areas for cost cutting: 

Investment through exchange money on GCDP ICX has to be cut down and interns should pay for their stay on LC run projects. Tracking the realizations play the key role here.

Investment on the venue on the LC forums can be avoided by raising the venue in inkind.

If we plan all the events for the year in the starting of the year, we won‘t have to use the money that we did to cover the up due to faulty planning.

Investment on the Local conferences can reduce.

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh Talent Management

1. Describe your understanding of the role of Vice-President Talent Management in the LC considering two essential components of the Experiential Leadership Development stage, Team Member Program and Team Leader Program, fall under this portfolio‘s purview? Give tangibles as far as possible. Depending on the size of the organization, the HR manager has responsibility for all of the functions that deal with the needs and activities of the organization's people including these areas of responsibility. Role of Vice President TM

Tangibles

Recruiting

VP TM is directly responsible for defining and recruiting members with specific and need based qualities and competencies. We

Training (Training focuses on raising or altering skills )

VP TM has to ensure all members are equipped to work through various need based training.

LC Development

VP TM is responsible for the overall development in terms of results, performance and learning of the membership.

Communication

VP TM also has to take care of the internal communication flow across the hierarchy.

Performance Management

Keep a track of a members experience helps VP TM to track his/her performance and help them to do better through various processes.

Coaching (focuses on beliefs, behaviors and competencies)

Ensuring regular Reviews and Personal Goal Setting meeting keep happening for the members of the LC

Making TM Polices

Making the guide lines for all the TM processes and making sure none is violated.

Reward and Recognition

VP TM also has to make sure that he/she rewards and recognize the extra-ordinary performance of the LC.

Team Building

VP TM should make sure that each member is comfortable working in his/her team to extract great outputs.

Member Retention

Though VP TM does not play direct role here but, retention is a very important part of his/her job.

Leadership

Doing various Leadership development training is important especially in AIESEC to make sure the LC is always growing.

2. Analyze the recruitment‘s conducted this year. What innovations do you propose in the existing processes to make them even more effective for next year? In the year 2011, AIESEC Chandigarh did 3 recruitment drives and all three were decent in terms of quality of the applicants in terms of the following aspects: Response for AIESEC: In all the three recruitment drives, the response from the students was very encouraging. The statistics are as follows:   

February: 72 people were recruited May: 6 people were recruited August: 104 people were recruited

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh Over all the recruitments were decent, in February we recruited majorly out-station members which lead to dip in the membership in May. May recruitment could have been better if we had better applicants, still the best were recruited. August recruitment faced the same problem of quality of the applicants, which was the reason for extending the recruitments. Organizing committees have been really hard working. Innovations:    

3.

Outsourcing the 1st two processes of Recruitment (GD and TA): this will help us gain the credibility and better quality of applicants and their database. Promotion is the make or break for recruitment and need to be given special attention. VP TM has to be the part of every Personal Interview. We should also recruit in April-May. Special Recruitment for 12th class students (Promotion and collecting database will be done during AIESEC Beta session.) How to increase external value of our Membership?

Following are the ways we will adopt to increase external value of our membership:

Communications & IM

1.

Describe your understanding of the role of Vice-President Communications & IM in the LC.

Role of Vice President Communication & IM mostly misunderstood and undermined. CIM as a portfolio has evolved over the years and this year it‘s one of the focus areas to leverage from to boost branding of the organization and help boost exchange. Key aspects: 1. Internal Communication and Branding:  Defining Branding Guidelines.  Defining Communications Channels and Policies.  Content Development.  International Relation.  Myaiessec.net education.  Holding E-Learning webinars.  Projects

The Buck Stops HERE!!

Siddharth Bali | Manifesto for Local Committee President 2012-13 | AIESEC Chandigarh 2. External Communication and Branding: a.   

Maintaining virtual spaces Social Media Website Other virtual spaces like WizIQ, Issuu, Flickr etc

b.   

Information Management Information Systems Knowledge Management Documentation of LC events

c. Media Relations 2. How would you assess the role of Communications in 2011? How can this portfolio tangibly contribute to the achievement of the LC‘s goals (Exchange, Leadership, Membership, External Value) & objectives in 2012? How will this be tracked? Communication as a portfolio has evolved over the years and this year it is one of the focus areas to leverage from to boost branding of the organization and help boost exchange and help reach out to new markets, some possible ways to leverage with the support of CIM would be: Exchange:  

Promotion of AIESEC as an international talent pool providing organization through different mediums. Making customized promotion strategy for all portfolios to reach out to the right audience and using the right medium to reach out to these markets. Eg: Facebook for Students, LinkedIn for corporate, Principle/Education Summit for Education Sector etc.. Partnering with more market leaders and government organizations.

Leadership:   

By getting leadership roles certified by external partners. Recognition of leadership roles by partners and supporters. Opening TLP for volunteers for event OCs etc to provide short term AIESEC LR experience.

Membership:   

Representation of AIESEC delegation at other corporate and youth forums. Introducing and executing more meaning and powerful interaction with the youth. Capitalizing on the youth networks and AIESEC initiated youth clubs in school and colleges. Eg: AIESEC clubs in schools, LinkedIn clubs in colleges and virtual membership and virtual community.

External Value:        

Identify our niche- We are exclusive for giving LEAD sessions and International Opportunities. We really should build on this. Position ourselves as an expert - After completing 23 years we have decent experience and can act like experts. Provide free information products, write articles about the problems our clients face and how they can solve them. This can be related to career, entrepreneurship, Internationalism etc. Develop ongoing relationships with complementary professionals and build our referral team. We should partner with a lot of College Fest, Social or Corporate Events, Media Events etc.. We should circulate our Newsletters (mentioning opportunities and activities of AIESEC Chandigarh) to our Associate Members, Students who have applied online, Clients and BoA. We should let our satisfied customers help us sell our products or services by giving us referrals and write blogs. Create a marketing calendar and keep to it consistently. Identify innovative ways to get more business from our existing customers.

‗The trick of marketing is to turn the information into the information that cannot be ignored.‘

BoA and Alumni Engagement

1. How do you see the Board of Advisors being serviced the best? What inputs-tangible and intangible, can they give to facilitate the LC‘s progress? AIESEC Chandigarh has always got great support in all aspects from the BoA. 

Regular communication is the trick to serve your stakeholders. Quarterly Newsletters and 3 Joint Board meetings will happen.

Involving and taking their advices for various events.

LCP will directly handle the Board.

Following are the ways where Board can give their inputs and help LC grow:--

 Mentorship- A Board member can be a mentor for the LC (only the EB) 

Exchange- An alumnus can take AIESEC interns through the Global Internship Program.

Promotional/Learning event speaker- Board can be called upon to support the LC by speaking about the benefits of AIESEC to an external audience. Financial supporter- Alumni can sponsor a project together or awards for the LC. Link to contacts- Building a professional network for LC through contacts of alumni. H4TF partner- Alumni can readily employ AIESECers since they know about the professionalism and leadership experience one gets in AIESEC. Conferences & training- Alumni can be called for conferences for skill based sessions or experience sharing with the LC.

2. How do you see the Alumni being serviced the best? What inputs-tangible and intangible, can they give to facilitate the LC‘s progress? AIESEC Chandigarh has recently started taking initiatives in the portfolio; this portfolio has a huge scope of improvement. Following are the best ways right now for AIESEC Chandigarh to service the Alumni:-

The most important part to this is keeping Alumni Informed, we can do it by sending them quarterly Newsletters (this can be an ER product), engaging them through Virtual Platform.

Rendezvous Alumni Event should be continued.

Vice President ER should directly take care of this portfolio.

Following are the ways where Alumni can give their inputs and help LC grow: 

Mentorship- An alumni can be a mentor for the LC (be it, the EB or members as well).

Exchange- An alumnus can take AIESEC interns through the Global Internship Program or go on one.

BOA member- An alumnus can be on the BOA of an LC offering them support from time to time, Mr. Robin Singh must be added on the Board.

Promotional/Learning event speaker- Alumni can be called upon to support the LC by speaking about the benefits of AIESEC to an external audience.

Alumni can be a part of the Alumni Involvement Strategy(AIS) of a LC so as to spearhead the alumni activities and help in connecting more alumni with the LC

Good Luck! 
